I posted my review originally on Google, but I recognize people like to cross check multiple reviews and sites, so I wanted to make sure my review was seen here as well for those who use Yelp. Fair warning this review is long, but thorough. I don't think I could heap any higher praise on the staff that I've worked with in the last two days at the Foleck. I called in with a medical emergency situation. Basically, my situation was that I needed to get my teeth fixed as quickly as possible, so I could medically clear, and then start a Covid shelter in place on Sunday so I could go back to the ship. Not a lot of time. I had developed tooth pain while I was working on a ship offshore and Chesapeake Bay. It was to the point where Ibuprofen wasn't working, preventing me from sleeping and, I had to get off the ship. Once I got to shore and to my vehicle, I called them and they brought me right in. This first appointment was with the Hygienist Katelyn and Dr. Hamlin. Katelyn was really polite and understanding of the situation. Very easy to work with and patient. I chose Hamlin because I had seen a video she had done, talking about when you come to Foleck, it's a judgement free zone. I haven't been the best with my teeth, so I found that very comforting. When Dr. Hamlin came in, she was very nice and I could tell she knew her craft. I felt at ease. During the exam they could see that I was going to need a Root Canal. So I left and went to the Endodontist, and out of sheer luck, and the Dr. Becker understanding the emergency of the situation, decided to do my root canal that day, instead the following day. This is on a Tuesday. Come Wednesday morning, I called Foleck and Becky was able to move some things around to get me in for a temporary crown and fillings, again super short notice, but Becky moved the heavens to get me in. So I started with my appointment, this time with Hygienist Nicole. Nicole was also really nice and a joy to converse with. I certainly felt at ease with her. She got me prepped for the crown surgery. Very important note, they use a extra strength topical that numbs you up pretty good. When Hamlin did the numbing shots, I barely felt any sharp pains. So lets roll in to that, Hamlin starts doing the numbing shots and my nerves get the best of me, I reached out my left to hand, looking for a hand to hold. Nicole immediately recognized the gesture and allowed to hold her hand. Mind you this is the second time in today days that I'm the shit poked out of my cheeks. I don't think Nicole realizes how much I needed that and how much it calmed me down. I'm super grateful to her for it. The crown procedure went smooth for the most part, there a couple times Hamlin to do some more numbing, I guess I'm one of the lucky few that am resistant to numbing. You really get to see how skilled Dr. Hamlin is with her craft. She was super patient, anytime I needed to ask a question, she would pull the rubber piece holding my mouth open so I could ask it clearly. Speaking of which, Nicole was really good at understanding what I was trying to say with stuff in my mouth. So in closing, I have a hard time trusting a dentist, probably the trauma of bad visits as a kid. But with Katelyn, Nicole, and Dr. Hamlin, I felt safe and in capable hands. The Foleck Center, Becky, and Dr. Hamlin came through for me in my moment of need. They got me taken care on extremely short notice and time. Plus I'm from out of state and a new patient. I was so thankful I asked Hamlin if I could give her and Nicole a hug! So I most definitely recommend this place, and will definitely will see Hamlin again!!! read more

I should have read reviews before I went to this dental practice. I went there for tooth cleaning and both the owner and ANOTHER DENTIST came over to me after they took $900 worth of x-rays, to say that I was missing a lot of bone, I knew that, but that I had infections in all my implants. I told the client of mine who's a physician and she said is anything hurt, I don't smell anything, are you aware of anything? The answers were no so I made an appointment with a dental professor whose client is my friend. She said I did not have any implant infections. I could maybe get 10 to 15 more years out of the top bridge so I don't have to rush to fix that but the folic center said that I had to do both The top and the bottom and they wanted $46,000 and to put me under for 5 hours. That was a no from the start!!! They bought the price down but I was not going to go back. I do agree that I have a lot of bone loss, I also agree that two out of the four implants on the bottom were not in the bone. I will go get bone grafts and another location and have a consultation in the upcoming weeks. read more

My first visit was scheduled at 1:30, I left the office at 4pm. The technician was new and a bit slow, but the office was very busy and I saw the dentist for about 10 minutes for the exam, about an hour later for his diagnosis. I was told I had a suspicious object where I had my wisdom teeth removed AND I had an abscess. I never saw the x-rays, then the doctor tried to talk me into some cosmetic procedures. When I finally saw the woman who gave me my bill, she referred me to 2 doctors, and endocrinologist and another specialty dentist. I visited both dentists, and after paying over $700 for similar x-rays from each doctor, it was decided there was nothing wrong in either case. I'm retired and can't afford silly mistakes like this. In the future I will insist on looking at the x-rays. This is why I don't do dentists often. Thankfully I have good teeth. read more

Dr. Dano performed it and was assisted by Kingston and Nick. They made me feel comfortable and at ease about the whole process. The power went out while I was in the middle of a cleaning. The hygienist had a panic attack and could not stop shaking while she had sharp tools in my mouth. This location will attempt to reschedule every appointment you make. My last two appointments were rescheduled because, "the doctor decided to leave early". They do not care about their patients and only view you as a dollar sign. read more

I have been going to the Foleck Center for seven years, and customer service has declined markedly in the past year. I had an appointment in November to pick up my night guard and I showed up and they were closed--they didn't even bother to call me to cancel the appointment. They called afterward and said "it was kind of a last minute thing" that they closed. Then I rescheduled for December and they closed again. At least they called me this time, but still frustrating. I showed up for that appointment in January (this is now a two-month ordeal to pick up a night guard) and I waited 40 minutes to been seen. I ended up walking out and rescheduling again because I have a life and other appointments and waiting 40 minutes to be seen when I made an appointment is unacceptable. I am going to have to find a new dentist because the customer service at the Foleck Center is totally unacceptable. read more

Upon arrival for my visit at the end of January in 2025, I had to complete additional forms for photos, etc. I had already completed comprehensive online information that took me at least a half hour for myself and another 15 minutes for my spouse. I wish I had checked no on the photos. The photos were a complete waste of time, but the person taking them was very nice. The xrays were the most I have ever had done at a dentist. I had my glasses fall out of my lap and I had a very nice person help me locate them. The dentist himself did not bother to take off his mask to greet me. I am not sure if he told me his name or not. The photo/cleaning area was divided by cubicles rather than private rooms as I have been used to. It was noisy and as a person who wears hearing aids it was a bit overwhelming trying to listen to the instructions of the people taking x-rays/photos and doing the cleaning as well as block out music and other technicians and patients talking and handling instruments, etc. After my cleaning, it was determined that I had a cracked tooth and it was recommended that I receive a deep cleaning for periodontal disease. The costs for these were much higher than I have previously paid for dental work. I was also prescribed PreviDent 5000. I was merely given the paste and told to use it and spit. It cost me $18 out of pocket because my HSA card would not work, and I forgot to bring my husband's HSA card. After a week of suffering from nausea, diarrhea, and headaches that would not respond to medication, I looked online at the side effects of PreviDent 5000 and found that the side effects I was having were listed as possible side effects for PreviDent 5000. Needless to say, I stopped using that paste. It would have been nice to have received a list of these side effects with the paste. I stopped by the Foleck Center on my way to run an errand and asked the receptionist to add that I suffered side effects from PreviDent. I got a call back in reference to my stopping by. The caller assured me that PreviDent would not be prescribed to me again, however, I was not asked if I was feeling better or how I was doing. I was only asked if I had shared that I was allergic to Sodium Fluoride therefore ensuring that the dental practice was not at any fault. There was no offer to refund the $18 I wasted on a paste that made me suffer side effects for a week either. I get the feeling that making money is a bit more important than patient care at this establishment. I derive this belief from the high prices for services as well as the lack of empathy for my suffering when I used PreviDent. read more

In my opinion, this office is beautiful upon entry has great front desk staff, and Phenomenal dentist and dental assistants in the back. However, this review is in regards to the financial aspects of this business. Not only did I agree upon a treatment plan that was not followed. I was also charged multiple times without my insurance being billed for the charges. But being told estimates of what could be covered. When I asked the personnel who work the finances and financials of the institution why is there no pre authorizations bro g made? I was told "we don't bill to your insurance pre authorizations unless requested to do so... which would make no sense to anyone who has insurance and is required to give their insurance information from the start of services. But I digress. I continued to use this provider until, I was billed $1147 dollars for a visit that should've been $220. Then was rudely spoken to time and time again by the office manager Samatha. This morning I called again, as two weeks ago I requested to have my contract with the company canceled and all credits sent to my home address, she then proceeded to talk over me and I've already addressed her attitude over the phone in previous conversations. In my opinion again, if it is not your establishment, if you are not, Dr. Folek himself or his wife, or any true connection to the business in an authoritative way. I would suggest that you (Samantha) should mind your manners, and how you discuss and talk with clientele, they are the customer and these accounts and activities on their account are their business, and if they have questions and need answers, there is a better way to speak to them and to address them. You leaving them no room to speak, or to be heard, or to leave a good review about the business itself , all due to one counterpart who can't seem to control her own temper when dealing with repeat customers. Staff is terrible. They do not notate calls or forward them. They are very condescending esp. a person called Andrea , who had the audacity to call me a liar. I was supposed to have bone surgery but no communication and a host of problems with them have led me waiting for almost a year. For Two months I have asked for a refund but yet they have no record of any of my calls. It's over $25,000 they owe me. I did demand it back but was told they are being audited and that I can get my money after that! WHAT? I wanted to be able to use my insurance before the end of the year and go to another dentist who is ready to do my surgery. The staff got ugly with me because I "demanded "my money by monday. They hung up on me? Then wouldn't answer my calls! Very snotty and unprofessional, as if me needing my 25,000 cash Monday is too much of a bother. They won't answer my calls. They could care less. Guess $25,000 isn't much to them but to me, it's everything. read more

My dental experience was positive. However, they sent me a bill that I had previously paid by check that their bank cleared; and they sent me another bill with the same amount plus additional charges and threatened to send me to collections. Since then I have requested confirmation in writing that the balance had been paid and that my account would not be forwarded to collections. The billing agent in the Hampton office was rude and belligerent and would not assist me. She eventually referred me to the main billing office and I have yet to receive a final confirmation and finalization of my account. I suggest that you make sure you keep your canceled checks and receipts. read more

My visits to Dr. Foleck's Dental Center are always excellent!!! The staff is very friendly and always professiona.

I had a minimum of $2500.00 in dental work done in a years time. I bought the plan that included 2 cleanings included in with the dental plan of work they said I needed. I completed all my repair appointments and at my last appointment which was to be my second cleaning they told me I owed a balance of $280 for that exam and cleaning I corrected the girl and told her it was a regular cleaning and it was in my plan. She agreed and told me I owe nothin. Now they are billing me sometimes $180 and other bills $224 I do not owe them and its impossible to get anyone on the phone in billing. They always have a high turn over of employees and understandably because some of the dentist have the worst chair side manner! I will never go to them again! Also at the end of my last appointment I miraculously had more issues that were not mentioned just a few months prior at an appointmen! It's all racket to get money! read more

Do not use the Foleck Center. They have messed up my scheduling numerous times. They made me think I needed a $500 cleaning service that I found out was not necessary. It included buying an electric toothbrush I could have bought anywhere for less and a couple of different over the counter products (toothpaste, rinse, etc.). They also told me I needed to come more than twice a year, but it would not be covered under my insurance. The reason they thought I needed extra was because I had not been to the dentist for over a year because of covid reasons. On my first visit there they had me see a hygienist and doctor that did not take my insurance, so they billed it under another doctor that I did not even see. I think that was probably insurance fraud. I think it is like a hair salon where everyone works for themselves, but they just share a receptionist and the workspace. Today they called about my appointment which is tomorrow and said the hygienist moved to another location and I had to call them. When I called them, they told me I would have to wait a couple of weeks to maybe be seen. That was when I hung up the phone. I have had enough. If you are thinking of using the Foleck center, save yourself the headaches and go somewhere else. read more

If you would have asked me before I would have had a glowing review for The Foleck Center. Unfortunately this is the perfect example of a business getting too big for their britches. Quality and customer service now take a back seat to the almighty dollar. They expected me to pay for shoddy work and sent me to collections without even talking to me about the horrible discolored crown they put on my FRONT tooth. My husband and I have literally spent almost $30,000 there and this is how you treat your valued customers. Shame on you Dr. Foleck for not remembering the clients who made you the moneybags you are now. You just lost an entire family. We will be taking our business elsewhere and so should you! read more

I recently went here for a cleaning and dental examination. First, let me start off by saying that having moved around a lot for school and work, and unfortunately needing dental work, I have been to many dental offices. And out of all the dental offices I've been to, this place is top notch and one of the best. The facility is clean, and the customer service is superb. The dentist, Dr. Hamlin, is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and highly trained. The hygienist, Kristy Miller, is the best hygienist I've ever had. She's kind and pleasant, and it was immediately apparent that she is experienced and good at what she do. I was grateful that I had such a positive experience at this dental office, especially because I have to go back to get a root canal and I know I can trust their expertise. If you have to get dental work done, this is definitely the office to go to in Virginia. read more

Came in for a routine exam/cleaning with X-rays and was presented with a $350+ bill prior to the services. Part of that was from a prior visit where I had only gotten a cosmetic injury addressed & 1 tooth x-ray. They neglected to tell me at that time they were out of network for my insurance and sent me the bill later for $120. I declined the cleaning and went ahead with just the exam/x-rays. It was pretty obvious they were upset about not getting the full amount they tried to get from me. The dental tech gagged me and cut my mouth a few times while taking my x-rays without any sort of apology. After the x-rays were done I could see a problem with a tooth I had been having trouble with. The dentist tried to act like it was nothing prior to me asking about it. Turns out that tooth is calcifying, but the only treatment she offered were veneers... I've made an appointment with a different dentist who offers treatment for calcification rather than covering it. The Foleck Center has proven to be a drill, fill, & bill dentistry. Don't be fooled by the fancy exterior. They are only out for your money. read more

Military person here! As you know it takes years to be seen by dental on a ship, especially a carrier. I started to get a tooth pain a few months ago & ships dental was booked. Two weeks ago my pain got stronger & more painful, called this dentistry because it looked cute & nice lol. Had an appointment the following week. Dr. was able to notice what was wrong with my specific tooth I told him was bothering me. We made a treatment plan. Nice staff, shout out to Becky at the front desk. Clean work environment. Dr. L was the worst for me! I enjoyed my hygienist I had a few days before but went back for a tooth extraction. I did not have the female dentist I was told about. I got an extremely older gentlemen with shaking hands! Shaking hands that were in my mouth. His bedside manner was awful and the dental assistant helping him had absolutely no personality. I went to The Foleck Center for a first-visit cleaning. Before you set up an appointment, of course, they ask for your insurance card. And even checking in at reception they ask for an insurance card. I had a great cleaning- I thought the hygienist and dentist were thorough. But, they failed to tell me that my insurance was out of network. They sent about 3 appointment reminders, everyone is so smiley and courteous- until you ask questions about billing. I thought a cleaning would be something my insurance picked up 100%, but I was told I owed $180 at the end of my visit and told that I needed to pay at least half right away. They didn't show a detailed bill, just told me the total. I was given a breakdown of other recommended services and that total was around $2,000. I thought to call back today and ask- after reviewing my policy, if The Foleck Center is out of network. I didn't go to my usual doctor, who is in my network, so it wasn't in my mind. I've actually had the experience of trying to schedule with The Foleck Center under a different insurance previously, and I was told before the appointment started- hey, you're out of network, do we have your consent to go ahead? Because I didn't hear anything like that this time, I thought I was in-network. The closest I came was my hygienist asking if it was okay that a flouride treatment might be $45 max; she had checked my insurance and thought I deserved a heads up so that I didn't get a surprise bill. When I raised this concern I got a lot of push back and a smart mouth from the office administrator. I was told not to assume that their going ahead with an appointment means that I have insurance coverage; I was told that they actually only check insurance as a courtesy. They check insurance because they're a medical provider that works with insurance. And this didn't feel like a courtesy. I got lectured on not assuming things. I assume that my healthcare provider has my best interests in mind and I was told outright not to do that with The Foleck Center. When I tried to escalate further, I was told I could leave a message and that someone higher than the office admin would get back to me. And let me please add- this woman scoffed at me when I asked to cancel my upcoming appointment because I'd rather visit a dentist that's in-network for me. If The Foleck Center is in network, please, visit. But if they aren't- and check yourself to be sure that they aren't, do yourself a favor and skip this place. I'm not quite sure how that banner outside announcing they're a "Best of Hampton Roads" recipient is accurate. read more

Absolute worst dentist I have ever been to! Hit me with. 400$ charge today, (didn't show me the charges either) for a late bill that I was contacted about once a year ago (never received anything else in the mail, so I forgot about it) would not let me leave until the bill was paid, and then couldn't understand why I was upset . They called me to arrange an appointment (because they hadn't seen me in a while) just to be able to surprise me with that. Don't waste your time or your money to be treated like crap, and belittled for not being able to pull 400$ out of your ass. I will not be returning. read more

My visit was extremely helpful and accommodating. I was able to get an appointment right away, and early enough in the morning that I could go to work on time. I was extremely pleased by the staff and doctors being so eager to help and explaining what they saw in terms that I could understand. I think it's one thing to speak to what going on in medical jargon but it's another thing to add value by having the client understand what is being seen. read more

Specifically asked the lady over the phone would there be any charges after giving her my insurance information, she assured me there would be no charge with my insurance. After going to the Norfolk office and getting an exam I was charged 75 dollars. This charge should've been discussed before anything was done. Very unprofessional. After calling around to different offices no one still had an answer but sorry. Whoops. Will not be using this dental office again. Don't hit people with hidden charges. She also sanitized EVERYTHING, which was very comforting. I was also seen by Dr. Hamlin who was really informative and welcoming. Her warm demeanor put me at ease during my exam. Giving this practice 5 stars. I was very impressed. Now if you are a first time patient, please allow ample time to get into the system. I was there for about 2.5 hours HOWEVER I got every x ray and photos so they could thoroughly look at my teeth. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Hamlin and she was a delight. For 8am she was very funny and live for so early! Her hygienists were so nice and had a lot of good information about my teeth. Another thing I loved was that they ran my insurance BEFORE I got to the appointment so they knew exactly what my insurance covered (always good to know your own plan but still this was a pleasant surprise). They were very detailed and went over everything that they did. Again if you are a first time patient please allow for the time. Also there is only street parking so I would come early enough to account for that. If you are going to cancel, make sure to cancel 2 days before not one so you don't get charged the $50 for the visit. Lastly you get a little gift bag if you're a new patient! Overall I am sooo excited I found a new dentist home! read more

I experienced no pain which says a lot because I had two extractions. The visit was pleasant and joyous as well as she and her hygienist have an awesome rapport. I was a patient for over 3 years and enjoyed the experience and thought the work was good until I moved away. Upon moving, a crown, which was less than 3 years old fell out multiple times, which is unusual. I went to another dentist who was shocked that my tooth had been filed down so low that the crown would not hold. When I called the office to discuss this with them, all they had to say was I am sorry and try to get it fixed where you currently live. To get this fixed, I had to do a tooth lengthening surgery ($1200, luckily my insurance covered most of this), wait 4-6 weeks and then get a crown replacement, which who knows how much that will cost. read more

From the receptionist to the hygienists and doctors, everyone I met was friendly and professional. Dr. Foleck is a rock star in my book and has fixed my teeth (many, many problems) to where they were when I was younger. This office is legitimately the best dentist office that I have been to in my life! Upon arrival, I was impressed at how clean, polished, and cozy everything looked! The reason for my first visit was to inquire about receiving one veneer for my unfortunate-shaped tooth centered in the front of my mouth (look up photos of a peg-lateral for a visual). Although I'd had braces for above five years prior, that one tooth annihilated the admiration that braces often grant the recipient. At the consultation, I was given pricing, and a general idea of what to expect. A few months later (I needed time to earn the funds), I scheduled my appointment, and my hideous peg-lateral tooth was transformed within about two hours to a tooth that I would be proud to be seen showcasing in my smile! My entire smile, which had been almost completely ruined by this misshapen tooth, was almost seemingly recreated by Dr. Boyd! That day was also made better by the fact that the dental assistant gave me a ride home back to ODU (I had originally planned to take the bus) at no additional charge! Although my mouth was numb, I made it a point to smile, smile, smile, smile, smile for the next week and beyond, which says a lot, because I am naturally a smiler anyway! A few months later (I am completely to blame for that length of time), I received my permanent veneer, and am darn proud of it! I thank God for bringing the Foleck Center into my life, because it has been nothing but great moments ever since in regards to my smile! Another great element about this office that further sealed in my appreciation was the fact that I only had to pay half of the balance over each of the two appointments! That alone made me feel better financially, especially because there was no interest involved in this arrangement! To whoever is considering Foleck, I know that you will be glad that you made this choice! read more

They pay their patients to write 5 star reviews. Besides the fact that they have a very high turnover in dentists, their quality is absolutely poor. I had a crown replaced and in two years it came out. The woman who is responsible to assessing insurance claims told me I would have to pay $1200 to have it replaced and it was my responsibility. Insurance does not cover new crowns if it has been less than 8 years. This discussion took place in the dentist's chair where the entire clinic could hear this conversation. Finally they were able to bill my secondary even though I did not believe this was ethical. They said it would be covered. I then received a bill for $500 in the mail. I called and they told me $89. When my crown was replaced they the charged my $98. They are horrible, do not go there. read more

I am 75 years old. As a child, the only time you went to the dentist is if you were screaming in pain. No cleanings, braces or whatever the younguns get today. Hence at 75 my teeth were on their last leg. I came to Dr. Foleck with the intent of having old teeth removed and having implants put in along with pretty white teeth. So, the implants are in, a remarkably simple procedure from the patient standpoint. He uses sedation. I was awake, sort of, no pain, no realization of the time expended in doing the implants, and i suppose i slept part of the time. I awaken to smiles on the faces of the staff members involved in my surgery, a mouth full of new teeth needing only some minor adjustments over the next visit or two.
