I'd done ample research and my lens was behaving exactly as others' have. There were even online videos with the same reproducible symptoms, and a specific part needed to be replaced. So I figured I could get my repair done at Eurotech, as Sorin has worked on many lenses previously. He told me there'd be no charge if he didn't repair the lens. The shop is very old-school in how it's run; there are claim checks, no website to check on your gear, and you must call him during business hours to determine the status of your repair. His phone mailbox is perpetually full. Eurotech is located in a small office within a building with other small businesses. The office is cluttered with all manner of camera parts and intact cameras, and there are few clean flat surfaces in the place. I was a bit edgy about leaving my camera and lens there, but the reviews and articles on Sorin gave me confidence. He asked me to call several business days after I left my equipment. When I called, he told me the lens was very clean inside. Evidently he was thinking that dirt infiltration might have been the problem with my lens vs it needing a part replaced. He continued to go down that path, apparently unwilling or unable to get the part. My lens was reassembled and I picked it up in the same condition as I'd left it. While Sorin was pleasant and making jokes when we originally dropped my lens and camera off, he was not very friendly when we picked it up. I'm leaving the review at 3 stars because I got my camera and lens back and there was no charge (although I missed my camera and lens for the 10 days or so they were in the shop). I do think it's nice that Sorin didn't charge for his time, of course.

Both were very friendly and knowledgable. My camera was ready the same day (they did say 24-48 hours but was called as soon it was ready). Wow. So appreciate their attention to service. I am renting a lens for an upcoming photography trip from them at the end of the month. Their website is very easy to navigate for rentals. Their prices for rentals are extremely competitive with other local camera shops. So happy they are in Austin. Sorry it took me a bit to find them. I will definitely be back.

It took a while, but Twin Oaks was reasonable, and by far the most helpful in explaining the process, which was surprisingly complicated, due to switching color to black and white and other stuff like that. After that, they are my go-to people for photography projects. Months later, I needed some enlargements done for gifts, and they were well-priced and again, helpful as always. I'm definitely going back when next I need some photogservices. The employees are nice and helpful, they give you an accurate estimate when the work will be done, and give you a call when it's ready.
