Poundstretcher is a variety store which sells clothing, food, toys, stationery, homeware and other items at low prices. This store is one of their smaller stores in Edinburgh but still worth a look if you are in the area. There is a very small selection of clothing here - the kidswear is usually quite nice and they sometimes have some nice womenswear on offer at bargain prices. The quality isn't always the best however. Poundstretcher sell grocery food items - all non-perishable tinned or dried items. Sometimes they will have promotions on tinned items but I recommend you check the best before end date as you may find there's a reason the item is so cheap! The store has a great selection of toys and stationery items to keep kids amused and you can get some real bargains here. There is also a great homeware section selling bedding, bathroom items such as towels, kitchenware and cleaning products. You can also pick up items for your car, small electrical goods and some tools. There is also a nice selection of confectionary near the till which is worth a look. As stock changes frequently in Poundstretcher I recommend you pop in often to see what bargains they have on offer!

A great placve for stocking fillers, especially sweets and chocolates. This store is always heaving, especially on Saturdays, so be prepared for long queues.

However, there is one thing neither of them have mentioned. The absolutely massive section that is bizarrely dedicated to all things dog related. Goodness knows why this is. That's what I love about Poundland: there's always something random on sale. Wandering around, there was nothing that really took my fancy. The toiletries/beauty items are something I never buy from there - I just don't think they look like anything worth buying. They have a good selection of biscuits, sweets, crisps etc (I wish I liked Jammie Dodgers because 3 packs for £1.00 is pretty impressive!) but with the other food items on offer, it's a bit of a weird offering and perhaps not products I would be looking to buy or even glance twice at. But if I'm looking for a bottle of ketchup, a tea dunking biscuit or need to stock up on chocolate, it offers enough to keep me happy. The stationery section offers a good range of pens, cellotape, notepads, packing tapes and packing boxes. I'm really fussy with what pens I choose to write with but for £1.00, their pens aren't half bad. The whole shop just seems very boring as are most of the items in it, they don't even play any music! But Next must be doing something right as I've witnessed first hand the crazy bargain shoppers queuing outside at six in the morning on sale days to get their hands on some discounted goodies. Next is one of my favourite places to shop for baby clothes for friends and family. Until recently I had no idea how expensive baby clothes could be! Next have a huge range of super cute outfits and they are all quite reasonably priced, I even saw a little shirt and tie for a baby boy last week - very suave.

The prices are varied some to me are a bit expensive for what they are and I think that is why the sale is so popular because the quality is good. There is a children's section to the rear which is well stocked and the clothes are seperated and displayed by age. The upper level of the store accessed by a small lift or stairs stocks mens clothing from shirts to belts to trousers etc. A nice next though to have a look around it is a bright store and the staff are helpful.

I have never bought anything from here but I did look for that special dress although I did come away empty handed the staff were helpful.

Poundland is an amazing store, which is always queued right up the length of the store. Sure, it's unashamedly tacky, and some of the items aren't worth the pound you pay for them, however you'll find some decent essentials in here such as toiletries and stationery. I'm amazed that anywhere can afford to sell absolutely everything for a pound, however it's always incredibly busy, so I imgaine it'll be around for a very long time.

The only downside is that the credit crunch is encouraging a lot of people to try this place out, so it can get very busy with the queues.

I spent almost 40 minutes in this tiny little store, which only opened its doors in June 2010. The owners ( a husband & wife team) were so warm, friendly and accommodating. There are no pushy, snooty sales people here. I found exactly what I was looking for...and a few other things too. The prices are incredibly reasonable for unique and often hand crafted items. I have been back on 3 occassions now and never feel pushed into buying (altho I always do!) Well worth a visit, if even just for a browse. Well Done Mum for taking us the wrong road! :))
