But most importantly, the staff and service were very rude. A middle aged woman acted extremely standoffish while we tried to check in and refused to help us, so a younger kid had to step in. The bar staff seemed annoyed and didn't wait out table--we had to go over and ask for service. The younger kids working the boot and ski rental were a little more pleasant, so kudos to them. If you're from the twin cities metro area, don't waste your time making the drive.

It was late summer and hiking uphill in the heat, I huffed and puffed like an out of shape smoker. 2nd time I came by myself on a cooler fall Sunday afternoon and I walked it twice. There are 2 ways to tackle this. Start on left and hike by a water tower or start by tubing hill on right and walk up. The views overlooking the highway and crystal lake are awesome. They are now closed for hiking til spring due to ski season ramping up. The trails are also mountain bike trails but I never encountered anyone. The hike only takes 30 minutes to get up and down. More if you doddle and stop to take pictures. Bring a bottle of water along and dress light. I carried a fanny pack as I didn't want to leave my phone and money in my car.

The game room was a huge hit with my kids along with the pool, sauna, and hot tub. The place was really nice, super clean, and had everything we needed. Everything we wanted to do was within a 5 minute drive - so central! We came in the middle of November and it was the perfect escape for my kids long weekend break. We were even able to see the northern lights right out our back door reflecting on the lake! Would love to come back in the summer.

Lake Darling is a pretty lake and part of the chain in Alex. Brought three other couples from outside the area and they really liked the resort and activities in Alex. Hiking trail was just a block away and it gets you almost anywhere in Alex. Firewood purchased came with a little starter kit and they provided a good qty with large pieces. Property is well cared for and large space between cabin and water. Definitely would come again.

We came here on a suggestion for skateboard/longboard. We've been to one other store and it was meh. Trevor was our stellar longboard master help this evening. He was SO knowledgeable and patient with us. We easily sucked up almost 2 hours of his time. He went above and beyond in my opinion for customer service. We walked out with a beautiful put together long board that my daughter felt great about as a beginner- wheel color & type, bearings, & truck color of her choice- all switched out by this cool dude- Free of charge for him to give her exactly what she wanted to boot! Plus all the tools and padding needed for her to get started with. The rest of this store...now I'll admit that I have t been in too many store like this but it seems to me they have a lot of great things to offer for multiple type of "sports". Frisbee golf, water sport, winter sports... They even carry some hats, fun gloves, backpacks, sunglasses, and even summer flip flops! We will definitely be back when Emma is ready to do some upgrading or need the bearings changed on her board. These guys rock!!!

Bob & Julie Schimerowski took over the long established resort in 2017 and did a complete renovation. There are six well-cared for cabins that accommodate from two to six bedrooms. The cabins come well equipped with kitchen supplies and are air conditioned. The resort is super kid friendly (but no pets), has the perfect swimming area for kids, as well as a pristine lake. There is an abundance of fish that can be caught from the many docks. There are several pontoon boats that can be rented by the half-day, full day, or week. All other boats and equipment can be used for free. These include peddle boats, canoes, kyacks, peddle bikes, and a water slide, as well as life jackets, paddles, etc. They also have many land games from badminton to corn hole, as well as many others. There is a central lodge with many additional games, as well as ice cream, and a washer dryer (the washer/drier have small charges to use). Bob and Julie add new amenities every year. I really appreciate their responsiveness to any issue, question, or request. They are very friendly, as well as professional. This place deserves six out of five stars!

We got here yesterday and no matter what we ask for nobody knows anything or they don't have it because they're working on improvements. This is a campsite and there's no fire ring and no picnic table. There is a community building that is locked and when I asked about it today, they didn't even know it was locked. They unlocked it, but apparently it's only available during office hours which is extremely limited and not when people would want to go in there and relax. Not that that matters either because there are no pool balls for the pool table, they didn't know that either. Today, I had the maintenance man get in my face, screaming and swearing at me because our dogs went near his dog. In all fairness, this morning, our camper door was not latched and the dogs did push out and we didn't realize it. There were no altercations between the dogs. For an employee that works there to be swearing and screaming in a threatening manner, saying he will go to management and get us kicked out. This is not a good representation of their employees. When I said this to the management, it was obvious that they couldn't care less. Not once did the management apologize for anything much less their staff behaving so unprofessionally. I will not come here again. Spend your money elsewhere.

No activities for kids, offered barrel rides only on the week-end. Offered snow cones x2 daily but you had to pay for them. Rates go up every year but no improvements to the cabins/grounds. For the past 4 years I told them the half bath door didn't lock. Still wasn't fixed this year! One of the bedrooms had wet carpet the entire week due to the air conditioning set up where water drained into a bucket that overflowed due to no one emptying it! Large Dogs swimming in beach swimming area when guests were swimming - this was more than 1 dog & happened several times. About 2 days into our week stay we woke up to Goose poop all over the Lily pad (if I could attach the photo I took I would) & remained like that the rest of the week. (The lily pad was faded & had a big rip/hole in it - it has been that way for 4 summers!) Office hours were 10 am to 5 pm Starting next year in 2026 said they were going "green" as a result: -cabins are expected to haul their own garbage up to trash bin behind the office. That was the last straw! Added a booking fee $20 & $40 admin fee in 2026 This year 2025 stopped exchanging towels mid-week, said if you want clean towels you have to pay extra, again due to going "green." Weeds in some of the areas of the swimming area. Didn't clean up beach daily to get rid of weeds that had washed up. Trampoline in swimming area was horrible you couldn't even bounce on it. Something was very wrong with it. Can't bring your own firewood - charge $15 for a bundle of wood that must have been wet or unseasoned it smoked so badly. if I could give it a zero I would!
