We worked with Elmar and his crew to remodel our downstairs bathroom and update our backyard hardscape. We met with 3 or 4 other contractors and Power Builders group had the best plan and best price! They converted a single large bathroom into a private primary bathroom and a powder room. Out back, they demolished all of our old concrete and replaced with pavers and turf and prepped for installation of a new hot tub! The project was completed in a timely fashion. Elmar was on site frequently, and was always available to talk over any concern or questions we had. He also worked with us to solve any issues that came up mid project. So my husband and I purchased our first home. It was definitely livable however wanted to change the entire home to fit our needs and vibe. It was a 4 bedroom home and approximately 2000 sq ft. For the vision that I had I knew that this was not something that I could do on my own. With that being said I was mortified of the thought to hire a contractor since I have been around long enough to have heard some truly awful stories. I was on a time crunch and I am extremely picky. I met with quite a few different contractors that either were extremely expensive, didn't have enough knowledge or they just didn't understand my overall vision I was wanting to accomplish. I was put in touch with Elmar and he came by and did a thorough work thru of the home with me. From that moment on I knew that this was the person who understood me, gave me great suggestions and made me feel extremely comfortable. I was scared as to what he was going to give me price wise however compared to the rest of the people I met I was pleasantly surprised and moved forward with him. We completely gutted the entire house. We took 4 bedrooms and made it to 3. So we combined 2 bedrooms into 1 to make a bigger master bedroom. We remodeled both bathrooms (added steam shower) and added a powder. We removed one wall which had a fireplace in the living room/kitchen to create an open space. We redid all of the windows, sliders bedroom doors, ceiling, HVAC, wiring, plumbing.. you name it we did it. From the time we purchased the house and all this construction was done we were able to move in after 6 months which is truly unheard of. We still did have some other projects to finish after we moved such as the front and backyard. We redid all of the concrete, resurfaced and re did the coping around the pool. We put new vinyl fencing and did a metal electric gate in the front. So all in all I did every single thing in my house with Elmar and anytime I was stuck on any design question or functionality question that was my task to handle he never failed to give me opinions and other perspectives to help make my decision. Each time I contacted him he just gave promises everything is under his control. But actually he did not care to work on my project. Once he gets your money he is no longer interested in your project and doesn't care you are spending on rental payments huge money while waiting him finish the project. I wasted 7 months waiting when he finish the project, every time he was making up different stories. Didn't care I need to pay my rent. This was ridiculous. Our driveway was in a bad condition and wanted to replace it for years. Finally decided to move forward on the project since it's a big expense and started looking for contractors for the job. To be honest a lot of the contractors prices was very high and my driveway is long and wide so the cost was as important as the quality. Save your TIME and sanity and go with another contractor. We started with Elmar in May 2024 and 7 months later we are no where near completion. We had a 6 WEEK contract signed with him. We went with him for a COMPLETE KITCHEN REMODEL and 7 months later we do not have a kitchen in our home. The heart of the home. The cabinets were put in but we had to fight to get them done to our satisfaction as his "designer" REFUSED to work with us and help design what we wanted. She was being difficult and rude and told the cabinet installer to go with her incomplete design we were not on board with. We had to get Elmar to show up in person (back in July) to see the low quality design for him to acknowledge it looked bad and approve to change the look. It was absurd. After that, he pretty much has ghosted the job. Present day, we do not have a kitchen sink, plumbing for the sink or dishwasher, oven, island, stove, countertops or backsplash. We don't have a kitchen in our home and it's devastating. Elmar is deceitful and does not stand by his word. He says what you want to hear and does not follow through. Zero dedication or commitment to complete the job. He took our money and left us in this mess. He disappears for weeks on end and when my husband would try to get ahold him, Elmar will flat out ignore him day after day until he would finally respond via text (usually after 4-7 days) with- "oh ya, let me check." "Oh ya, I'll let you know. " just to shut us up. Then we won't hear from him again until WE reach out and the same cycle continues. We have leftover debris/trash in the side of our yard from 6 months ago that his guys never hauled it away. We have exposed wires coming from the ground in the kitchen area that was never safely covered. We are a family with young children and he has zero regard how this whole ordeal has negatively impacted our lives. We're treated like we do not matter and it's ok to lie to us over and over. Do you believe in miracle! It happened to us. After a severe water damages in our kitchen, after dealing with insurances, HOA and contractors (way too expensive, not ready to start the repairs in 6/8 weeks....) , we were finally lucky to find Power Builders Group. Thanks to Home Depot who referred the company to us. The owner of the company came and gave us not an estimate but a complete contract and most important ready to start the repairs 4 days later. They are the most incredible team and workers. The workers were always on time ready to do the job perfectly. And the manager on top of any issues or delays. we have requested a full bathroom renovation. contract signed, payments made in full in April 2024 of this year and until now 2nd week of September the glass doors are still yet to be delivered and installed. We have reached out multiple times almost every if not daily and Elmar's response at first he said the glass broke, or there was a delay or this was a scratch and now he says "I will check on it", we keep reaching out almost daily if not everyday, always an excuse. We welcome you in our home and shared coffee with you, all we want is to get this work done. Workers complained that they have not been paid, hence there are days sometimes becomes weeks before they show up to finish their work. Do the right thing. You have good worker, third contractors that are good and are decent . We do not recommend. We have been more than patient. This is quite disappointing and very disrespectful. read more

Elmar/POWERBUILDERS has it all: fraud, theft, complete absence for weeks at a time, excessive delays, lost license, failed inspections, installing sub-par materials that need to be replaced, incorrect or incomplete work that needed to be re-done repeatedly, and all the frustration and aggravation you could ever want, and all from just one contractor. I was a litigator in Los Angeles for 30 years and never had more aggravation than with Elmar/POWERBUILDERS. BEWARE, classic pleasant chit chat and sales pitch at first, and then every crooked contractor issue after the contract was signed. FIRST: ELMAR/POWERBUILDERS WENT TOTALLY ABSENT FROM THE JOB SITE AFTER THE CONTRACT WAS SIGNED. Was never present at the worksite to manage, supervise, or direct the subs. SECOND: As a result, subs CONSTANTLY PERFORMED WORK INCORRECTLY, that had to be repeatedly re-done and corrected because Elmar/POWERBUILDERS never communicated our directives to the subs, and he was then never present to supervise the subs' work. THIRD: I THUS HAD TO MANAGE the job/subs/work site myself to ensure work was done correctly, since Elmar/POWERBUILDERS did not, and the subs needed direction. (i.e., "floor tiles to be laid diamond style and not brick style;" "bathroom coves go here, not there" "use these light dimmers, not those," etc.) FOURTH: EXCESSIVE DELAYS. This 8-week condominium remodel was still not completed after 6 months. Days, weeks, or a month would pass with no work done. It was apparent Elmar constantly delayed work to avoid having to pay subs. So, our condominium just sat, incomplete, demo'd. Then, subs would arrive and do the work wrong or incompletely because they did not know what to do, and it would have to be re-done/corrected. After 6 months of aggravation and repeatedly begging and demanding he finish the work completely and correctly, we finally just took over the job ourselves. We hired our own subs to correct or complete the work and pass city permits. We did in two weeks what he had been struggling to complete for the last 5 months. FIFTH: FAILED INSPECTIONS repeatedly (City and HOA). SIXTH: We learned Elmar/POWERBUILDER'S LICENSE WAS SUSPENDED while he was working for us, and he was using non-licensed subs/electrician. The City told us it would not issue him permits at the time in any event, even if he had bothered to get them, because his license had been suspended at the time. We had to hire our own electrician to install code compliant AFCI breakers to pass inspection. (And hired other subs ourselves to complete/correct Elmar/POWERBUILDER's work. SEVENTH: We have since learned he has at least FOUR CLAIMS AGAINST HIS INSURANCE BOND from other customers. FINALLY, SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: FRAUD and THEFT - Elmar COVERTLY INSTALLED SUBSTANDARD WINDOWS AND SLIDING GLASS DOORS after presenting us a fraudulent receipt for over $11,000 showing he had bought required premium windows/doors (that he, in fact we learned, never purchased). And he failed to pay for city permits after we advanced him $1,100 to do so. Elmar/POWERBUILDERS simply did not have the resources to oversee a remodel of 2-bed 2-bath condo. But, if you need a good contractor, I'm now qualified. read more

We recently bought a new house and had carpets all over the bedrooms and living room we wanted to replace with wood floors. We started to look into floors and decided that vinyl floors would be our best option, but we needed it fast and in budget. We started getting estimates, and prices were sky rocketing. We met with Elmar with PBG, and we expressed our needs, we needed to get it done fast and in our budget. Elmar promised us to get it done within a week and give us the house back clean after all floors and baseboards had been installed. After 6 days Elmar called me and asked to come pick up the keys and do a walk through, I was surprised that whatever was promised was delivered andmy wife and I was very happy with the service and the work, the floor was cleaned and the house was ready to move in.
