If you're looking for a less busy river park in Richmond, the 42nd Street Entrance is the place for you. There is a small parking lot that usually has a spot open and if not, you can park along the road. 42nd Street Entrance is RVA's hidden river gem. You'll need to take quite a few stairs and walk over rocks to get to the river. Once you park, you'll walk down some stairs to an elevated walkway that has even more stairs to go down. The elevated walkway has a great view of the train tracks and offers some pretty forest views. If you're looking for the river, once you get down the stairs you'll head slightly to the right and go down the very subtle path (on your left). You'll cross some rocks and up a few more steps. Keep going forward on the path and you'll find the river. Do note you have to hop or climb through some rocks to find a good spot on the river. This is a wonderful park to escape the city and enjoy some Richmond nature. I highly recommend checking this spot out. It's a great spot to swim at, have a picnic, and hang out with friends and the people you love.

He heard I got hit on the trail, so he wanted to make sure I wasn't afraid to ride again. He took me out on a tandem. He and a friend fixed my handlebars and took me out on the Capital Trail (the scene of the crime) for a quick lung check. Be extra careful even at the light signals. I'm recovering from getting hit on the Capital Trail at the crosswalk on New Market Road with the "push button light." Some drivers stop and some don't I managed to get away with just a concussion, some Fractured ribs, small puncture in left lung, and bruises/abrasions on my elbows. I'm in pain but I'm so grateful to be alive!!!! I remember proceeding through the light because a car stopped after pushing the button, but I don't recall getting hit as I proceeded to cross. I guess that's an additional blessing b/c I know I would be too afraid to ride again. Y'all be safe and keep cycling!!! Pain killers and people like Elvin keeping me going.

Belle Isle was the first place that came to mind! I lived in RVA (Manchester) for a year from 2007-2008, and Belle Isle became a second home for me during that time. As an avid adventurer, I highly recommend Belle Isle for the following reasons (based on my pre-pandemic/circa 2008 experiences): 1.) Egalitarianism: It's a great place to mix and mingle with people from all walks of life. 2.) It's a great choose your own adventure type of place where you could spend an entire day doing a mix of the following activities: kayaking, hiking, biking, swimming, reading, sunbathing, whiling away time on the rocks, cloud gazing, having a picnic, doing landscape photography/photoshoots, etc. 3.) The James River! It's the only Class III-IV white water rapids in the U.S. running through the heart of a city center. 4.) Wildlife (especially the aquatic birds)! 5.) Proximity to the rich culture, food, and history in Downtown Richmond that you can explore before or after your Belle Isle adventure.

There are parking spots out front, a bus stop, and you can bring your bike inside to shop. ***EXPERIENCE*** I don't come here often, but when I do I usually come for local brews, nightingale ice cream sandwiches, or a bike tune up. I love the little local markets we have all around RVA, and the fact that this one doubles as a bike shop is so cool to me. Their bike shop people are down to earth and really help you with any bike needs/concerns you may have. I'd recommend getting your bike fixed here if you're looking for a place. ***PRICE*** Market goods are a bit on the pricier side (think Whole Foods), but they have local and organic products. And it's always great to support a local shop. I haven't gotten a bike tune up from them in a while, but I remember it feeling like a reasonable price. My partner recently had a chain link replaced and brake tune-up and that came out to $30. ***CONCLUSION*** I love Outpost. It's cute, trendy, and local. I had to get an Uber ride into Carytown from 8 miles out on the trail but Joel assured me they could take it in on Sunday. He said 'we are a full service' bike repair shop and we're open today so bring it in and we'll take a look at it. Upon arrival, I got a professional greeting and Joel gave me a realistic estimate of the cost and the time line for repairs. You got to like that level of service. Like most other shops in Carytown, you will be challenged to find parking. They have no dedicated lot so you'll walk 2 to 3 blocks to find street parking.

I ended up trying a Verve +3 lowstep e-bike. Bryan took the time to answer all my questions about the bike and dive into interesting facts. His knowledge felt endless on bikes! Before trying the bike, he filled it with more air and tested its safety. He gave me a helmet and I got to test the bike in the Libbie Mill area. It was a fantastic bike! The tennis and pickleball courts are a fun spot for friendly games. There's also a dedicated dog park, which is perfect for letting your pup run around safely. One of my favorite is the Latino Farmers Market on Saturdays (running now through November) it brings such a vibrant, welcoming energy to the park and offers great local produce, food, and community connection.
