Post closing to public, leave conditions safe for park users, consider what is best and safe for a dog park, stop using poisons that are making dogs sick, finish and area before starting another, and no exclude park users from information by blocking them on social platforms and meetings. If you were acting with integrity you would be able to disclose information to those that actually use the park. Also those on the board should not only be avid park users, but also DC residents as they are the ones paying taxes. read more

My favorite dog park in the Madison area! The parking lot and once you enter the park can be busy especially on the weekends but once you're in the park is so big with so many trails, even if it's busy you have plenty of space. The park is so well taken care of and the views are amazing. Not only does my dog love it but I love it because it feels like I'm out on a hike. It's not like many other dog parks where it's just a loop. You do need a pass for this dog park. I always leave with a very happy, very tired pup. Highly recommend! read more

I really Love Wisconsin. Not only does Wisconsin have parks on top of parks but they also create areas where our 4 legged friends can romp around. As we found out while visiting friends in Madison this runs across the board. Prairie Moraine is no exception to the lengthy list of dog parks we've come to treasure. Not only is this place massive but it is completely fenced in. The outer perimeter is around 2 miles and the interior is full of rolling hills, trees, and tall grass giving the pups a variety of terrain to conquer. From what I experienced the people as well as so many of the dogs we met were great. To me this means people care about their pets and how your experience interacting with them goes. Our dogs Ralph, Macy, and Louie had a blast and got to full on play and get tuckered out. If were i n the area this will be one we won't want to miss. As with any dog park there is poop here and there, but that comes with the territory. We have become big fans,of yet another one of Wisconsin's many dog parks! read more

Best dog park in Dane County! There is plenty of trails and space for your dog to roam. It's beautiful in every season, especially when it has snowed on the evergreens. My dog always loves going there. Remember to bring water, though. There isn't any running water out there. read more

Hey Chester, This was your favorite park ever since you were a little pup barely big enough to realize your size against all of the other big dogs. Do you remember the first time we came here? We were with your other Boxer friends and you caught a whiff of something exciting and veered off trail. I panicked because when I turned around you weren't there. We retraced our steps, circled around backwards and frontwards. To my relief, a good Samaritan called me and told me you were back by the front gates. When we looped back around, you bursted out in happy wiggle butts and we continued our trek. When your immune system weakened from all of the chemotherapy and drugs, you couldn't go in to the actual dog park area so we would walk the Ice Age Trail section of the park. No matter how weak you felt, or how sick you became, you were always back to your pre-Cancer self at this park. I'd look for your little stub of a tail and sure enough, it was always at it's optimum 90 degree angle. Watching you play hide and seek with your brother always made for the best entertainment, at the expense of your little brother. I loved watching you explore every inch, every scent of this park. You would literally make your own path and your brother would blindly follow. When it was fall, the crabapple tree would shed its fruit. You always wanted to play soccer with the bounty. Everything was a game, the world was your sandbox. You were so playful, even when you bit into a rotten apple. The face you made was priceless. Everyone that crossed paths with you loved you, even though you played hard to get. I love you Chester. I dedicate this review to you. There is never enough time. Hug your loved ones. Best dog park in Madison! Our dog gets so excited when we pull up to the park, and it really helped us learn her boundaries in a fenced in area and work on recalls. Plus most of the owners that come here are just as happy as the dogs are here. Additionally you are so close to Wisconsin Brewery and you can bring your dog there for a pint after. :) The park is BEAUTIFUL and I love hiking here as much as my dog loves coming here and playing. The park is even great in the winter if you can make it out there. read more

A dog owner at another park told us about Prairie Moraine and I am eternally grateful! Lol. Just outside of Verona, this was our nearest county dog park. And what a park it is! Give yourself time to get through here, because it is an undertaking. But it is beautiful and well worth the time you spend, plus your dog should be worn out by the time you make it back to the entrance. Hills, valleys, forest, dog paths, prairie. This place has it all! What is even better is you and your dogs have room to SPREAD OUT from other pups! It takes our family about 45-60 minutes to take the "big loop" around the park. And this is with us taking a leisurely walk/hike and our dog tracking for half the time. Lol. Check it out! read more

I cannot believe that it took Rose and I so long to get out here! Love love love this park. It's a short drive but it feels like you're out in the country. Very beautiful park with nice trails and lovely views. The usual downsides are of course not a lot of trash cans (although bags are provided - and yes there are some trash cans) and no water. Parks for people pretty much always have water fountains - why don't dog parks have the same H2O access?? I don't mean to only complain. It's a great space; we are lucky to have so many really nice places to take our pups here in Madison. So enjoy this park - just bring your own water! read more

Woof woof- yes this is the best dog park in Dane. I was dog-sitting for a week and we went here 2x. On a Thursday it was pretty empty - but on Sunday - omg- it is the Church of Dogs. Full parking lot. Many nice people and doggies on the trails. Friendly scene. Lovely trails - nice views - plenty of space for all. This park connects to the Ice Age trail where you need a leash. Also a BONUS on weekends the mobile dog washing service, Brown Dog and Friends is in the parking lot! Woof woof. read more

I really miss Fort Funston and parks in the Bay Area where you can go off leash with your dog. I don't know why it took me this long to find this place! I registered my dog, bought a one year dog park permit, and brought my dog. Upon entry, there are 2 double gates that you can walk through, pick up some poop bags and discard poopies in trash cans up front. Immediately there's a large flat place if you want to hang out and have the dogs play with each other. We chose to take the trails around and scout the place out. It was a great walk for all of us-2 legged and 4 legged. There were plenty of friendly people and dogs, but not over crowded for a Monday morning. Around the park, there are additional park benches, small side trails, and trash bins. I'm sure when Spring comes, it will be really scenic! It's a great place to bring your dog for some off leash fun. read more

This is the best dog park then I've ever been to. A short drive outside of Madison, near the city of Verona. It's very large, and provides a very good, long walk for Fido, and for Fido's human counterparts. There is a great variety of wildlife, largely of the flying variety, since ground animals are susceptible to your dogs' attentions. I have never had a problem with anyone else's dog here, and the dogs I've gone with have clearly enjoyed running and wandering and exploring. read more

This is by far the best park in the Madison-area. It is huuuge! Dozens of trails and hiking options, and lots of flat open areas for your dog to play with others. Be careful after a day of rain (or even several days after it rains) as there are many water pits, and if your dog is at all like mine then it will find all of the water holes and swim in each of them. It also helps to carry your own personal water bottle around as the water bowls are only at the entrance of the park. read more

For the last 20+ years this was hands down the best and safest dog park in Dane County, that is until the last 4 years. Restoration work has left this park in dangerous shambles. What used to have healthy native trees and shrubs, have been clear cut leaving jagged stumps and debris causing many injuries to both dogs and people. What made this park unique and special is being gutted, and according to the plan for this park, most of the 80 acres will be clear cut and remodeled into a prairie. Add to that the use of glyphosate that has made dogs sick, aggressive and dangerous behavior by the volunteer staff (reported to police). By removing the ground cover also removed some simple safety factors for the park users. Gone are the visual barriers to keep the high number with some separation and natural the barricades from other dogs. Along with the added protection from the elements (rain, sun, wind...). When DCP was questioned about the response was: from Joleen "Dane County Parks does not manage parkland for one user group (in this case, you suggest it is the dogs.)", Sad reality that a "dog park" is not managed for dogs. And it shows with the number of injuries and fights that happen on a daily base. read more

This park is taking the cake for the top spot to take the poochies! Only about a 15-20 min drive from downtown, it's totally worth it. As noted in my original review, the on-leash (Ice Age Trail) hiking is fantastic. Even better (for those with friendly doggies) is the off-leash area. The park is huge, offering a trail that runs in a loop all around the park with crisscrossing trails in between. To walk the entire loop around the perimeter takes us about 45min and we usually encounter about 15 other dog groups along the way (on an average nice weekend afternoon). Every weekend the parking lot is packed but it's easy to escape into the park and not feel overwhelmed by people in the least. If you want your dog to play more with other dogs there often are folks gathered near the front gate, allowing for the dogs to socialize. One other really nice feature of the off-leash trail is that there are actually garbage cans about 10 min into your walk. You mean I don't have to carry around a bag of poop for half an hour?! Perfect!! There is no water here though so be sure to bring some because your pooch will be thiiiiirsty by the end of a 45min loop + puppy play time at the front gate! Love it. It's been worth the trip every time. read more
