The last time we were here was 2013 with our kids, on the way home from Yellowstone. We just happened upon this place then, but the pizza was so good that my husband and I stopped here again on our way back from another road trip. We waited 1.5 hours for it to open, and I ended up having a great chat with the owner while we waited for our order. What makes this pizza so amazing is the non-traditional dough and the cinnamon crust which you dip in the side of frosting. IT'S SO GOOD! Female behind counter is rude. On 9/28/24 place opens at 5pm and you can't even eat inside. She make you eat outside in the 90 degree heat. Crust is soggy and toppings don't stay on pizza. Owner behind counter is complaining about other co owner and that he doesn't help out. She said she should buy him out. She needs to get out of the business herself for how rude she is. We found this little slice of heaven (see what I did there?) while stopping for gas in the little town of Murdo, SD. There was a billboard for it a little ways down the highway and it was easy to get there from the interstate. The claim to fame here is that sugar and cinnamon are baked into the edge of the crust and the pizza is served with vanilla icing. So you eat the pizza normally, then dip crust into the icing for baked-in (did it again) dessert. Staff was pleasant if not necessarily outwardly friendly, and because the place was filled with Mask Deniers, we opted to sit outside and they were nice enough to bring the pizza out to our table. The pizza was very good and the leftover pieces remained tasty over the next couple days, even cold. The main reason for four stars instead of five is really the lack of masks and other sanitary precautions that were not in observance here at all. read more

I'm sure it's all just perception and there are no intentionally bad actors herein... though I can safely say that cinnamon has no place on a pizza - and I'd way rather have packets of crushed red peppers and parmesan than frosting for my cinnamon ensconced crust. Is desert that scarce in Murdo to require such an act of desperation? Also we ordered one item that didn't make it the pie - and the mushrooms were few - and if you are putting Canadian bacon on pizza....cut that shit up! This is clearly a locals joint. And the woman cleaning the bathroom - maybe the owner? - she really could've recognized we had requested to use that bathroom...a father with a preteen daughter - a simple - no problem I'm just finishing up - would've felt welcoming.... In the area for work and after a late flight into Pierre, this was the only option open in Murdo for a late night dinner. We walked in and Prairie Pizza was being single-handedly ran by a one woman team, she was cranking out some orders and let us know she'd be with us shortly, and that she was closing soon, so we could still order carry out. We placed a build your own with pepperoni and mushroom, got 2 drinks and waited in the main area for the pizza to be ready. She gave us napkins and plates to go, handed us our pizza and we headed outdoor to the lighted and we'll manicured lawn with picnic tables. The temp was just right that evening and we enjoyed our pizza outside. The pizza flavor was great, it was fresh, hot out of the oven so toppings were sliding everywhere, but still good after we let it sit for a minute. The interesting thing about this pizza is that it's advertised as a entree and desert at the same time...and it was, and we didn't pay too much attention to that, so it was a little bit of a surprise that the crust had cinnamon rolled into it, and the pie included dipping cups of icing. I am the person who lives for pizza crust, so not having that extra crunchy bite of carbs after finishing the slice was a little disappointing. We felt adventurous, the crust was not sweet, but normal, just rolled like a cinnamon roll, and it turned out to be a nice little combo. Definitely worth a try, a lot of the restaurants in this area were closed or closed early due to staffing. I would support this establishment again. read more

I went in to buy a fountain soda (diet Coke). It splattered on me because it was empty. I asked if they would fill the soda machine and they said "we are too busy". Then they put an out of order sign on the diet Coke as I waited. It cost 2.50 or so and I even had given them $1.50 tip. When I asked again, a different attendant said "we are too busy." Instead of arguing about the soda, I took my tip out of the jar and left. What a shame. The place is clean and looks nice, but is run by a team that focuses on the wrong thing (operational work) instead of actual customers. read more

The first thought is another fast food grease fest or scary bar, then you see this cute little pizza place - okay I will give that a try. Wow - fresh made pizza, super friendly service and a good price. I was not expecting that. Want to talk about not expecting, the crust is cinnamon filled! They give you a sweet icing to drizzle your crust with making for a perfect dessert when you are done with the cheesy wonder. I've worked in pizza for 5 years and I can say this is one of the worst I've had- product and service. We were driving cross country and this was one of the only places open in a 50 mile radius. Maybe it was the time we went (around 7:30pm), but you could tell the 2 women working just really didn't care. We didn't get greeted coming in, just a "menu is on the table". The only size offered is a 16" which is unfortunate but we ordered a plain cheese and waited nearly 20 minutes for it to cook (we were the only customers) and it still came out half baked with the middle completely soggy. From looking at the bottom, we could see only the outside was actually completely cooked. The only fan of the cinnamon crust was our 2 year old, I personally think that should be a request type of thing as it kind of threw of the taste for me even more. My husband and I had 1 slice each because we couldn't stomach anymore, especially after finding hair from one of the workers in his slice. No one had hair tied back and I personally did not see them wash their hands once while in there. Maybe it's better at a different time with different workers, but based off my experience, I would not recommend it. read more

So after totaling our car near Murdo, we found ourselves stranded at the Days Inn Range Country for two nights and three days. Without a car, and not willing to make Gas Station Snack Dinners (more than once) we finally caught Prairie Pizza when it was actually open. (Which is surprisingly not very often.) We ordered a Pizza, and the guy that delivered the Pizza (which may have been an owner) was actually very nice. He even made sure to bring paper plates and napkins, which was very thoughtful of him. We were SO excited to have real food. We had been surviving off of beef jerky and trail mix for two days since I could barely walk at the time, and PP had been closed the night we showed up in Murdo, it was closed on Sunday, and then we had to wait for them to open at 3PM or so. The Pizza that we had had Canadian Bacon, Sausage and Beef and Pepperoni with their Cinnamon Sugar crust. It was honestly the worst pizza ever. The cheese slid off with the toppings, the dough wasn't crispy/cooked in the middle of the pie, so it stuck to the pizza box (and we scraped off the toppings with our bare hands like animals). The crust was strange, and the "icing" wasn't sweet enough/there wasn't enough of it - it also had a strange taste to it. If you're hungry, you're hungry, but please heed our warnings. read more

Trying to find some place to eat while driving I-90 late at night. Found this listing on Yelp. Called ahead to make sure it was open. The gal took our order even though we were still about 30 minutes away. Pizza was OK. The cinnamon crust on the pizza isn't too bad. The icing is just powdered sugar icing, nothing too fancy. The place looked clean. Just a note when we hit directions on the iPad the map took us to the wrong side of town. This review is for people who didn't spend their whole life in Murdo. In short, their pizza is edible at the very best, and the only reason the Yelp reviews are good may be that people's expectations are absent when traveling in such nowhere land. Read below for detailed description, or simply save your time and money and don't go here. My boyfriend and I were traveling in SD, which was a fantastic trip, and we found this place on our way back to MN. It was a cute little place with good reviews. However the pizza had flavorless dough and toppings which weren't enjoyable at all. The pizza is unique in that the crust is cinnamony and you dip it in a sweet sugary sauce. If done right, that would've been a cool thing.. instead, the "special" crust tastes like a week-old, dry, very dry cinnamon roll, and the dip is a dilute, runny, white water with awkward/gross sweetness to it. If you ever tasted any decent pizza before, and if you decide to have a pizzs here, just be aware that you won't like it. read more

My husband and I decided to stay in Murdo for the night as we were traveling back home to Georgia. We decided to get a pizza to bring back to our room. It seemed there were only 2 places to eat. Pizza or a steak restaurant. We did not want to go in and sit down anywhere as we were tired. I called in our order and she let us know it would be 20 minutes, and it was only 20 minutes when it was ready. The lady who took our order, and worked by behind the counter, was very nice. She let us know it was only carry-out, and they did not deliver. That was fine since the Best Western was right across the street. It was only one size, but my husband and I could not even eat it all. The crust was something we never had before. It was a cinnamon crust that came with a sweet dip. A dinner and dessert all in one. I would of never thought of it, and we LOVED it. They did not skimp on the toppings either. We only ordered pepperoni and mushroom, and they loaded it with cheese also. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something quick, but also something local you would never get at home. read more

Stayed at the motel next door, after 12 hours of driving you just want to relax. So checked in and walked across the grounds and ordered. After 25 minutes walked back over and brought back pizza deliciousness. They do only offer 1 size, oh well it is a small town, smart business decision. Super-sweet customer service. I really liked the pizza, it was unigue... a thin pizza with good cheese and a hearty crust. They cake cinnamon into the end crust and provide icing for dipping. This place is located in a very small town and doesn't always show up on the gps. You can find it right next to the Days Inn hotel, you can walk right nextdoor. The crust is very soft and I had to use a fork to eat it otherwise the toppings would have fallen off when I picked up a slice.
