I love little local ice cream shops. From Rita's to Dairy King, I've been all over these United States and I enjoy them all. But Zesto is where my heart goes for ice cream. They have different sherbet flavors pretty much every day of the week and all kinds of ice cream concoctions to make your head spin! My favorites include Black Forest and Smores. Since my very first visit to the Pierre Zesto ice cream shop in the mid 1950's, I have been hooked. The early owners, the Harold Pommer family and every owner since until now and including (the Rick Newman family) have all kept the great Zesto flavor, varieties and cleanliness that go to making a great small town business so popular. They make my malts exactly perfect. No added milk and extra malt powder (of course for added cost but worth it). Simply the BEST. read more

One of the major highlights of Pierre. The Zesto has The Best sherbert in the entire world. Yes, my friends, the entire world. They change flavors ever few days (my fav is coconut and chocolate together!) and always have a red flavor on the weekends. Fantastic treats like slush floats and muddy river twists. They also have cones ranging from baby (a few bites) to large (a lot of bites). Great summer time lunches, too, like a pizza burger and tots! Shame on Chris for only giving it four stars. You can get ice cream/ sherbert at the mall at Classy's, at the Cool Spot in Fort Pierre, and at the Dairy Queen and TCBY/Burger King, not to mention ASTRONAUT ice cream at the Discovery Center. I don't think it's possible to have a better sherbert shop! From Easto to Westo, Zesto is the Besto. read more

I've been coming to this shop for over 40 years. I've also traveled all over the world. The Zesto only offers soft serve and it is the best soft serve I've been able to find anywhere. The sherbet flavor changes every few days but I always go back to their chocolate malts - very simple, but I love them. There is no place in the world like the Zesto. read more

The best part of Zesto is the rotating sherbet menu which you can find on their website or on the calendar at the shop. Zesto closes during the winter and reopens during the Spring, but it is very good for the months it is open. As stated above sherbet of the day is very good, but it also has numerous specialties and staples as well as an assortment of generally fried foods. read more

I would call this place a destination ice cream shop. Not that I would make the trip from Virginia to Pierre to go there, but if I were in Pierre, I would definitely make it a point to come here. My uncle, who grew up in Pierre, remembers coming here every day in the Summer after going to the pool, on his way home. It has that kind of vibe to it. Lots of nostalgia. You can grab a cone with some soft serve or sherbet and sit down on one of the concrete benches next door and just enjoy a nice Summer evening. They have a lot of creative combinations of add ons to add variety to the limited number of flavors of soft serve. I had a dip (with the chocolate hard shell). Be warned, it melts fast when you do that. Ask for a cup (just in case). I plan to come back next time I'm in town. read more

Four stars since it's about the only real place to get ice cream anywhere around. Soft serve only. I got a large wicked artificial green colored cone that took me back to the 1960s ads "better living through chemistry". Nostalgia for sure. Walk a couple blocks east towards the Capitol and see if you can get into the now closed hotel. Very cool inside. Service is friendly. I missed the blueberry flavors, that color would have been something to see. read more

Stopped by this place two days in a row. Long lines as promised but fairly quick service. The first night we had a cranky girl take our order. Not helpful even after I told her it was our first time. The second night, our girl was much friendlier. It's great soft serve. But it's still soft serve. Simple, smooth and creamy. They have lots of mix in and topping options. Only offer three flavors per day. Vanilla, chocolate and a special flavor that changes every two days. Pretty disappointed in the service though. read more

Amazing ice cream shop. Today my family of 6 all got ice creams and a chocolate ice cream sundae with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, nuts, and 3 different types of candies, all for $7. Also, the food quality is amazing and this is the best ice cream shop I have ever visited. I highly, highly, highly recommend you to check this place out because it truly has showed me what quality ice cream for an affordable price tastes like. Also, the staff is very patient and nice, along with the place having the dogs quickest service. The location and setup has a retro kind of feel, making the place very artsy and nice. I love love love all the different sizes, flavors, and presentation options you can choose from, it truly impresses me. I wish this was an ice cream store chain, because I would love more Zestos in my area! The point of this review is that Zesto is an absolutely jaw-dropping, incredible, and AFFORDABLE ice cream shop that I 17/10 recommend you check out!! read more
