We are always taken well care of here with all of our animals. We have a kitty with some health issues that needs regular visits multiple times every month. Everyone who works there is lovely however the stand out for me is Dr. Ball! She is the best! She is the kind of person you wanna hug because she is always so sweet, kind and has all the answers. She takes her time with us and never makes me feel like I'm a nuisance with my questions. She makes sure to answer all my questions thoughtfully. I can't recommend this wonderful woman or Clinic enough!

Every hospital, pet or human, has patients who don't make it through. I ordinarily take my cat to Premier in emergencies, but on Juneteenth they were overwhelmed and couldn't see me until later that night. They provided a list of other area emergency vets and Mokena was the nearest so I went straight there. They aren't 24 hours and it's a small place so upon arrival you have to call and they will put you in the queue. Wally was in pain and feeling poorly, so wasn't very cooperative, but they made it work and got blood for testing. Dr Soumar saw him for the exam and said the blood test revealed most likely he had pancreatitis. They sent everything to my awesome regular vet, who I was able to schedule with the next day. My vet did another test and agreed with the pancreatitis diagnosis. Wally was fine after a couple days of special care, feeding wet food with a kitten syringe to prevent dehydration and lipidosis. Everyone here was professional and thorough. Dr. Soumar was very kind and explained everything very thoroughly. I will probably continue going to Premier as they are much closer to me, 24 hours, and have a larger office, but I'd absolutely bring my pet back to Mokena when necessary!

"The colors of your first impression paint the canvas others hold."…read more I've been aware of NAWS for years, but I've never had the privilege of visiting the shelter. I recently took in a stray cat and her three kittens. After keeping them for a month, I surrendered the adult cat (Willow, aka Mama) to NAWS. Regrettably, her babies went to Catnap From the Heart in LaGrange. IF I knew then what I know now, I would have taken the kittens to NAWS as well. I had a contact who knew Delonda (NAWS board member), so she arranged for Willow to be taken in by NAWS. Anyway, I dropped Willow (aka Mama) off on Sunday afternoon. There was a moderate wait, but Franny was gracious and friendly with all of us. She took the time to take my information and ask about Willow's preferences and personality. She also asked what type of home I thought might be suitable for Willow. (Catnap didn't do that, nor did they even seem interested in what might be best for the kittens I surrendered.) She also inquired about her medical history and her backstory. Having just come from Catnap, I was surprised (and happy) that the staff at NAWS took the time to note so many details. Franny asked us to wait around while Willow's cage was cleaned, so we took that time to calm her and try to make her more comfortable. Someone standing at the counter also asked why Catnap didn't take Willow since they took her kittens, and we said it was due to her having a history of biting. This person rolled their eyes and kinda smirked, which confirmed all the uneasy feelings I had when I visited there. Finally, it was time for them to take Willow to the back, and we said our goodbyes. My sister and I were in tears... we've never fostered before (this was on our dime, not through any organization), so the entire experience was new to us. We've had cats all our lives, but we had them from kittenhood through adulthood. We were raised that pets are a lifetime commitment, so we keep our pets for their entire lives. Giving up Willow (and the kittens) was heartbreaking. When Franny took Willow to the back, we couldn't hold back our tears. Kim was standing near the counter, and I asked her what would happen to Willow. She said Willow would undergo a medical assessment before being put on the adoption floor. If she was stressed at the shelter, then they would look for a foster for her. Kim was so sweet... She tried to console us by saying she knew how hard surrendering Willow must have been and that she would be okay. She said that we could call to check on Willow or come visit her anytime. Kim and Franny were wonderful. They were both friendly, helpful, and compassionate. The entire experience was positive and reassuring. I could sense that I was leaving Willow in good hands. That's not at all what I felt when I left Willow's litter at Catnap from the Heart. A few days later, I stopped by the shelter to pay Willow's adoption fee for her future owner whenever she's lucky enough to find her forever family. She's really a sweet and loving cat once she warms up to a person, so I'm hopeful that someone will see past her somewhat gruff exterior and give her a loving home. I also donated some paper towels and trash bags. The staff and volunteers were gracious and wonderful once again. They allowed me to visit Willow, and she stopped hissing long enough to allow me to pet her briefly. I believe she recognized my scent because she sniffed me and then laid down so I could touch her. They told me she'd be moved to the "angry bird" section of the shelter, where a group of dedicated volunteers would work with her before she's put on the adoption floor. I honestly can't say enough about the staff and volunteers at NAWS. It truly pains me that Willow's kittens didn't go with their mom because I genuinely feel as though they are suffering because of it. Catnap From the Heart pales in comparison to NAWS, and it's painfully obvious if you visit both shelters. Mokena/Frankfort residents are lucky to have such dedicated people looking after the homeless animals in the area.

I've seen them find fosters from out of the blue. I have seen them rearrange schedules to get a kitten taken care of. I have seen them making sure that it is a proper fit between animals and adopter. what's even better is that they have their own vets on staff and those vets are open to the public often at reasonable rates. I also know that they are very, very cautious with the donations that are desperately needed from the general public.

Our dog is an a 20 week old puppy (who just started training classes) that has a jumping and lunging habit. Now read the following from wagwalking.com and and determine for yourself if the Sackman Animal Hospital policy of using these chokers is one you want to subject your pet. The following is NOT MY opinion but taken from a published article from WagWalking .com *************************************************************** You can not refute facts: https://wagwalking.com/wellness/are-slip-leads-cruel-to-dogs Are slip leads cruel? When used in the right setting, a slip lead isn't necessarily cruel. However, slip leads can be harmful if used on an untrained dog. As a slip lead won't stop tightening, you could hurt your fur-baby if they're not trained to stop pulling on a leash. If you place a slip collar on your dog and they continue to pull, a slip lead essentially becomes a choke chain that could damage your dog's neck, throat, and spine. There have been reports of dogs getting severe whiplash from trying to run off while wearing a slip lead. Some people misuse slip leads as a training tool to stop pups from pulling. As they pull away, they'll be choked, creating negative reinforcement, which could make your dog fearful of future walkies. Generally, a slip lead is primarily useful when trying to move or catch a dog quickly. Most shelters, daycares, and veterinary practices advise against using slip leads due to the high potential for injury if a dog lunges suddenly. **************************************************************** BTW, Yelp list me as Ted from San Fran...I live in Frankfort IL. Now it's apparently all about profit and greed more so than providing good care for people's pets. They seem to hire anybody right out of vet school with no real life experience. From what I've seen they're not even supervised by a seasoned vet. Our last two visits there were terrible. They grossly misdiagnosed one of our dogs. We were told she probably just had an upset stomach, when in fact, she was in kidney failure. A simple review of the blood results and they would have seen it. Our girl may be with us here today if they would've diagnosed her properly and promptly put her on medication. They gave us a refund without us even asking for one because they knew their two vets fuck-ed up. They simply don't care. It appears to be all about quantity, not quality. Our most recent visit they also misdiagnosed one of other girls. I took her in because she had a sporadic cough that went on for close to an hour. It sounded like maybe something was caught in her throat, but I wanted to make certain it was nothing serious. The rookie vet terrified me saying that a cough typically indicates heart failure, heart disease etc. She did not ask me about any other symptoms. She talked me into doing several tests, with the total being close to $1500. She came to the conclusion that our girl had a significant heart murmur, heart disease, heart failure, and an enlarged heart . I was told she would it be on medication for the rest of her life. She terrified me by telling me to keep an eye on her gums, make sure they looked pink, not bluish at all. She filled a prescription for heart medication and told me that she would need to be on for the rest of her life. The same day I scheduled her for an ultrasound. A few weeks later she had the procedure done. It turned out that she has a mild heart murmur, no heart disease, no enlarged heart, and no heart failure. No need for medication. If you care about your pets, I do not recommend you taking them to this place. I will never step foot inside their door again. I will be filing complaints with the state against the few vets that misdiagnosed our girls. Somebody needs to be held accountable. I don't find it surprising at all that after I did some research that ethos was pushing the staff to do unnecessary testing! F Ethos! By the way, I believe the yelp reviews more so than the Google reviews. My understanding Google can be paid to remove negative reviews. And I also believe there are a lot of fake reviews on Google. If you truly care about your pets, I urge you to not take them to this place. I've seen too many horror stories similar to ours.
