The cat cafe here is amazing!! The value is outstanding for what you get: $10 each for 30 minutes in the room AND any typical coffee shop drink; yes, even specialty lattes, cappuccinos, and matcha (made with powder!!). Better yet, you can have a party of one to four people and you will have the room all to yourself. I would say the only drawback is apparently there are sometimes a lot less cats but we had 5 cats and it was a great time. The cats all have FIV so don't get too attached if you have a healthy cat at home!

Hi. I adopted a almost 3 month old kitten at the Tree House Humane Society on April 5th 2025. He was born on January 29th 2025. He turn 4 months old May 29th 2025. He Is a Sweet Kitty, Is affectionate and Playful. I Love him dearly. His name Is Noah, after the man that God told to build an Ark. I am grateful for adopting a Lovely Kitten. Here's a Photo of him In this photo Noah is about 3 months old. I Thank You Kindly for a Sweet an Lovely Kitten. Here's another Photo of Noah sitting In the window, Don't worry the window Is Closed.

Avoid at all costs. Seems like a flaky organization and a background check should be conducted about the shelter to make sure that the money goes to take care of pets. I arrived at the shelter 30 minutes before they close, I drove from far away paid much money to get there just to be told that I can't enter because they close soon and the employees wanted to go home. The waiting area is near the merchandise area because the shelter cares more about selling items than people adopting pets or donating money for the pets. I wanted to make a generous contribution but the staff totally discriminated against me. A shelter who hides their pets on the upper floor and not show their pets to the public, is not credible. Shelter employees who only care about going home early and ignore people who visit are not credible. I donate money on regular basis to pet shelters and it's the first time I see a shelter that behaves in such manner. Totally insulting and disrespectful. It's shameful that the employees just want to get home and not care about their animals.

The cafe is a special place. My boyfriend took me here while in town for the weekend. We enjoy going to cat cafes in different cities when we can including LA, Fort Lauderdale, NYC, and DC. We really loved the quaintness of the cafe and that the staff member made themselves available to answer all our questions. They were also our barista as well as walk ins! All of the cats were sweet and active on a Saturday around 230pm. One thing that made this cafe special was all cats were FeLV positive. Cat that's tend to be overlooked despite being able to live productive lives. Applause to tree house for helping dispel misinformation on these as well as other amazing cats!

I'm literally obsessed with this place! I got to mix my passions for coffee and animals. The shelter is very clean and the staff is very helpful and nice. There is parking so for my fellow drivers, you don't have to worry about parking on the street. It costs $10 per person and includes one beverage. I got the salted caramel latte and it was great. My sister got the hot chocolate and just like every kid she wanted more. Honestly, I think this place is fantastic. For 30 min you are welcomed to pet the cats and play with them. Probably the only negative was having to wear masks but I guess they are staying on the cautious side. Lastly, you can go to their website where you schedule a visit for 90 min and you can pick a cat to adopt. WOWZA I think that it's amazing what this non for profit organization is doing and I would go there again. After all, one decent coffee is $5-7 if not more, so you pay less than $5 to play with the cats!!

After 2 years of not having a kitty roommate I was ready to adopt again. The entire staff and experience at Tree House was amazing. The facility is very clean and the cats are in cozy "colonies" filled with toys and plenty of space. Greg and Karen showed me the cats I had seen on the website and spent a lot of time with me to tell me about them, their health status, personality trait (shy, prefers to be with other cats..), etc. I fell in love with 5 1/2 yr old George (formerly Trunks). The adoption fee is so reasonable as the cats have their shots, have been spayed, neutered and are chipped. it's been 1 week and he has been the perfect cuddly playful companion already. I highly recommend you visit Tree House if you are looking to get that special kitty a furever home.

Back at the beginning of 2016 I adopted my two kitty babies from the former Treehouse location in Wicker Park. It went seamlessly and I love my two girls to death. Fast forward two years and I was in a last minute time crunch to grab a large crate; I needed to do some socializing with a new cat we were housing for a little while. I called Treehouse knowing they offer the crates for two weeks at a time free of charge. My interactions over the phone with one of their employees was absolutely HORRENDOUS. She kept accusing me of needing the crate for "catch and release," which I assured her I wasn't, yet she continued to push and pressure me. I mentioned that I had borrowed the crate before, back when I first adopted, and she countered by saying "that's why the Wicker Park location closed. I don't know who allowed you to do that. We have new policies now." Upon actually making it Treehouse and dealing with another employee in person, I felt 100x better. Elizabeth is a real gem, and how all employees should be. She made the process easy peasy, and even remembered me a week later when I came to return the crate. (She called me Sabina and felt bad for not remembering my name correctly. Did I mention she is such a gem?!) Overall, aside from the single negative employee, I have nothing but positives to say about Treehouse. Beautiful space, adorable kitties and they always try to go above and beyond to make your adoption smooth. Two thumbs up.

It's our first time here.. Discovered this through Nextdoor app last week. Since my son's are into cats (we presently have a dog), so we gave it a try today. Our appointment time to play with the cats (only maximum of 5 people are allowed to play with the cats every 30 minutes) was 4pm. There were 4 cats inside but we actually just played with 2 (Felicia and Dakota).. The other two cats were inside the kennel (Dr. Jones was chilling out because he got too excited before we came; and Little Leo is still not acclimated to the environment yet).. These cats, except for Little Leo (I think) are ready to be adopted. This facility only accepts stray felines. After our experience with the Cafe, we went up to check for other cats ready for adoption. They are adorable. They are open Thursday to Sunday from 12nn to 6pm. The weekdays are for appointments only.

My boyfriend and I go on occasional nightly walks and usually pass by this place. A week ago, I finally saw a cat in one of their windows and he was so engaging that I couldn't so thinking about him. I ended looking up the cats and found him, Fitz. I made an appointment to see him and was blown away with the inside of this place. It's huge, bright, and very welcoming. Despite having Fitz in mind, they allowed me to see all the cats. I never once felt pressure to make a decision even though they do have a time constraint per covid rules. The majority of the cats were sweet and social. A few were a little shy, but still okay with being pet. Lots of adorable kittens! I couldn't give up Fitz though. After playing with him a second time during this visit, I went through with his adoption. The process was easy and informative. They give you information on how to introduce the new cat to your home, feeding, medical history, and Treehouse policies. Not that I would want to give back an animal I've adopted, I admire their policy that accepts their adoptees back into Treehouse at any time. I wasn't sure if my current cat would be okay with a new guy in the house and this policy made the decision way easier. This is his first morning in the home and he can already share a room with my other cat. They're not friends yet, but him being so chill and patient is helping this process move along. In the photos, Fitz is the black cat and Titty is the orange cat. Thank you, Treehouse! **Fun fact: my great aunt (RIP) adopted her last cat from Treehouse back in the day.

    I love this plate!

They take in animals that need a lot of vet care and make sure they get it and are healed. I've always seen great care and cleanliness at Red Door. I've adopted "many" rabbits and had a dumped cat under my deck that needed to go somewhere and they took him. This place is totally amazing! I've always been treated with the utmost kindness. I've seen them treat everyone like this. Thank you Red Door for your persistent dedication to saving animals! I've seen guinea pigs, ducks and dogs that go into foster homes. Hand punch and chest thump to YOU!!

My experience here was as a volunteer. Every time I came in to help, I was made to do common room…read more(the main rabbit and cat room). It was always filthy, many of the fleeces were covered in so much fur that I was worried about the rabbits getting a blockage, water bowls were often fully empty or had literal soap suds in them. The volunteer coordinator suggests you "spot clean" the litter boxes, though often they are so saturated that the pellets they use as litter are disintegrated. It put a bad taste in my mouth that staff was not following the basic "contact time" instructions on the bottles of Rescue when they claimed they wanted to kill bacteria. They kept a sick cat with giardia in a cage first thing when you walked in. He had a sign that said not to touch him, but not what he had. I saw senior staff repeatedly handle iso animals with no gloves. I saw them put iso laundry right into a pile with the other laundry more than once. I found a wet pile of laundry with feces (or litter, according to the literal president -- not sure that's better) stuck to it sitting on top of the dryer. I was written up for making staff "feel bad" about not knowing how to disinfect stuff when they claim to have vet tech experience, and for not being nice enough about the "litter" on the wet pile of laundry. I saw other volunteers regularly mix in BnB laundry with shelter laundry -- with what I would consider a homeopathic amount of bleach. They were not chastised for doing laundry incorrectly. In fact, they were allowed to train me on laundry. I tried to report a possible historical ringworm infection to the staff just so they knew to be mindful to check themselves and animals for sores, but instead got met with bizarre legalistic stuff about how I might as well be suggesting that I could have gotten it from "invisible space aliens" (that's from the president directly). Look at these photos and tell me if you think it's insane to think someone could catch a fungal infection here. I was then banned -- again, the stated, written reason being that I disagree with their veterinary practices and they've been doing this for 26 years blah blah blah. Ok. I'm really worried about how much else has been swept under the rug in 26 years, then. The president was so cruel to me when banning me that I immediately went to urgent care for medical clearance. The NP was grossed out and suspicious when I told him I got yelled at for trying to let them know about a possible exposure. Staff here does nothing but bully people if they trust you enough to let their true colors show. I have personally heard them do it about sexual orientation, weight, and ethnicity -- they even had rabbits with antisemitic names they got from Seinfeld (they are not Jewish themselves). They stood silently by while a senior volunteer made fun of my sexual orientation the first time I met her, even. They do not have a pride flag hanging anywhere. I wish they would change that, because maybe there would be fewer homophobic and transphobic comments. Though everyone here reflexively "punches down" so much due to their low self esteem that it seems they can't even keep track of what they say. Just know that if you have a certain skin tone, everyone here older than 40 with a sensible haircut has an opinion about your hair being "unprofessional" if you do anything but make it as straight as possible. I grew up in a hoarded house, and I have to be honest. That's what this shelter feels like and part of why I wanted to help. They cannot keep up with the animals at all, especially not while running HareBnB. Over the holidays, for maybe 3 full cumulative weeks of the year, volunteers handle everything in the shelter except paperwork and isos. No one is properly trained -- in fact, I trained several people after doing common room only ONE time. But these photos were taken when BnB wasn't busy. This is what their performance looked like when they had one more staff member than they do currently and very few BnB guests. And I heard the president and VP talk about buying more BnB space as a potential for the future! I don't have a rabbit currently, but if I did, I would not trust BnB. I am telling everyone I know with rabbits not to board at BnB. For a while, they were the only game in town, but now you can do better. I had already stopped finding joy in volunteering, because as soon as I would come in, the volunteer coordinator would sit at a computer and pretend to look at spreadsheets. That would devolve into hours of me hearing her talking and laughing while I did what would've been her assigned work. No thanks. As you can see, there's clearly enough to be done that we both needed to be working at the same time. I would love to see them change ownership and find a crew really dedicated to the mission instead of dedicated to doing a bit less than the bare minimum. It seems like this shelter used to be good, but maybe it was just the quirkiness of a bunny shelter.

This is the first time I've brought a shelter animal home without major health issues. After a God-awful experience fostering for a cat shelter on the north side of the city -- which lied to me repeatedly about the foster cat's condition and then heartlessly euthanized her -- C.A.R.E. was 180 degrees different and a breath of fresh air. Often shelter cats are underweight and saddled with at least one type of parasite, despite the shelter's best efforts. That was not the case here; in fact, the cat got a clean bill of health on her first vet trip, which she handled like a pro, leaving a trail of admirers behind her. That said, extra credit to C.A.R.E. for treating the less robust kitties, with cancer and similar illnesses, that other shelters are too cheap to deal with. If you're thinking of adopting or fostering, come meet the animals here.

I was one of those who wasn't deterred by the reviews because it felt like they weren't taking…read moreseriously the fact that a shelter was understaffed (as they often are) or that they probably shouldn't be adopting with the expectation of an immediate turnaround. Undeterred by those reviews, we went to the shelter with a particular cat from Petfinder in mind. Unlike the reviews I'd read, Jasmine was responsive when I left a voicemail asking if they were open for adoption events on Jan. 1st, given it was a holiday. She told us what time to arrive as well. The positives: the cats are clearly incredibly well cared for. Jasmine has a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of each and every cat, even when the cat hasn't been at the shelter very long. Her volunteers are kind and friendly and were really helpful with us. All of them helped people interested in adoption to understand each cat's background and context: this one is bonded so can't go alone, that one is too young for your home because you have elderly cats and the young one will harass them, etc. The shelter isn't just dedicated to preventing cats from being euthanized unnecessarily, but also to ensuring that the homes people want to bring those cats into are appropriate to the needs of the cats. Overall, with all of this, we were really impressed. The cat we'd seen on petfinder didn't end up being a fit for us, but there was another cat there who hadn't been adopted for four months who was. He was a black cat, very charming and sociable, and after going through and meeting all the cats we decided that he was likely a great fit for our home, which has a young cat and two middle aged cats as playmates. Jasmine seemed elated because she said "no one takes a chance on black cats, thanks for taking a chance on him!" We've had a black cat before (he died at age 18), and were excited to meet another one who was just as charming. We were asked to fill out an application. We knew we wouldn't likely be able to take him home that day and that was fine...a shelter really should vet its applicants to ensure the best outcome for the cat. We filled out the application for the black cat, and as we were leaving Jasmine offered to do our interview right then to determine whether we would be a good fit for the cat. We were thrilled it was that quick. For context, we are homeowners in our mid-40s, have been employed at the same salaried jobs for many years, have a long history of adopting adult cats and keeping them healthy and living their best life until well into old age (including a verifiable track record of regular annual preventive veterinary care, updated vaccines on schedule, etc). Jasmine pre-approved us, told us the cat needed a microchip and a visit with their nurse, but she felt she could get that on Sunday (ie. 24 hours later) and drop the cat to our house that night. Sunday came and went, no text. I inquired on Sunday night really politely about timelines. She said monday morning that a board member would review the application that day and get back to me in the evening. No response Monday. Tuesday I texted asking if there were any updates, offering to pick up the cat if that would be easier, and happy to provide additional information if needed in assessing the application. She responded she hadn't heard back from the board member. No news Wednesday. Thursday I followed up again, still very polite as who knows what the circumstances were. Got a response Friday: our application "did not go through" and someone else filled out an application for the cat we applied for and another cat, and the cat went with that applicant. So this is where the negatives come in: if your organization's goal is to find good, stable homes for cats, this isn't how to treat folks. There has never been any explanation for why we were rejected. In the event they found a better fit for the cat we applied for, that's great! But no one ever told us that he was bonded with any other cats (and we have playmates for the cat at our house), no one told us anything other than our application "did not go through" with no explanation as to why, and if they found a better fit, they could have asked us to come back and consider another cat and we would have done that. In the end, we have the space, love, resources, and time to invest in another cat, and a long track record of doing so. Instead we got ghosted and rejected, with no explanation whatsoever, and no apology. For as much as they've got cat care figured out, it seems pretty counter-intuitive to alienate good, safe, stable potential homes for those animals. We won't be going back. In the event they want to improve, they could do a lot to improve transparency and communication to preserve those relationships. They'd get a lot more support that way, through adoptions and donations.

Nonetheless, we found two cats we were willing to rescue from this rescue and we submitted an app. We live comfortably in the NW burbs in a 5 bedroom house with several other pets that are all well cared for. Someone is also always home too. She turned down our application! Feel sorry for all those neglected cats that are stuck there.

Especially around customer service, the amount of time it takes to adopt a pet and if the pet was still adoptable once we got through the process. Well, we DIDN'T have ANY of the bad experiences others reported. The customer service upon entry from START to FINISH was OUTSTANDING. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the front desk with excellent customer service. The 'cat' coordinator who took us to the cat section was VERY knowledgeable about the cats and spent an incredible amount of time with us. We didn't feel rushed at all. P.A.W.S followed through with everything they said they would do. The whole process from seeing our little Whisper to picking her up and taking her to her new home was six days (and that's because two of the days we weren't available). The process went very smoothly. They answered our questions in person and returned our phone calls and emails timely. They are very concerned about their pets and the homes their animals are placed in. We feel really honored to house one of the pets from their facility. Thank you P.A.W.S for everything you do for animals!

We were also told there was no guarantee the dog would still be there. We followed up and called every day and got no information. We were also lied to by the people handling the application. Considering that they got over 6 million dollars from the City of Evanston, I am very unhappy with their poor communications and the fact that they are only open to the public for about 2 hours a day. One of the two cats I adopted turned out to have obstructive airway disease and since they were in charge of my two cats for months, one would have thought that would have been disclosed. The medication cost over $2,000 that first year because what was prescribed was not off patent and the cat was too obese to take prednisolone safely. Why was my cat obese? Ask them. Further when I asked if I could donate the huge cat carriers back to them and some food bowls they gave me (since I already had those items) they refused them as if they have all the money in the world to buy new supplies, other shelters would have jumped at the opportunity, a donation in kind of about $100. I applied to volunteer and heard nothing from them for over 2 months after emailing and messaging them following up on my status, to no avail, until I had to actually go in there to find out what was happening. I could go on but in my opinion this is an organization that is not managed well and they could do much more with the funds that they have been given. I'm pretty sure, imho, that they will ask some pals or cronies to add some high star reviews to try to balance out the negative ones, of which there are quite a few, but all I can do is try to get them to get their act together there by posting this. Finally, as to others here saying that some people there are rude, I completely agree. It is not a pleasant experience. If they try to get more taxpayer funding without improvement of their management, I intend to go down to City Hall to cite my many reservations about this organization. Update on 2/18/25: I stand by my review in spite of the response from EAS: To EAS I respond as follows: Unfortunately the cats were obese from a medical standpoint so you may want to consult with a veterinarian on animal obesity. I note that you did not post the photo of one of them I emailed to you after he had some cat nip the first night I got them, but chose the "skinny" video :) so I posted my photo of one of the big boys I adopted. Further, it is my understanding that my cats were elsewhere in foster care under your auspices until they were put into my care as fosters. If you take no responsibility for their care when at foster locations, that could be problematic, especially for them, since you foster out many animals. As to communications issues: I sent an email Sept 8, 2021 asking about a vet. No response to that. I found a vet myself and did not contact you again until early Dec this year when I put in a volunteer application. No response to that. On Jan 7, I sent a followup email asking the status. No response to that. After that I wrote a msg to your Facebook page. A day or two later someone answered and said she would follow up with the dog volunteer area. I waited approximately a week and still had no answer. I wrote again to see if anyone heard from the dog volunteer group, but received no reply. Growing quite annoyed with the runaround, a few days ago I decided to walk over to EAS and find out what was going on, which I did. I told The person there, also the person who did not answer my email of Sept 8, 2021 that I had emailed and messaged and gotten no reply so decided to walk in. He told me I must be mistaken as EAS has no email address posted on its website and was rather brusque (rude, in my perception in addition to being uninformed) gave me no apology and then insisted I must have emailed a vet with a similar practice name to EAS. He subsequently agreed to follow up, nevertheless. Moreover, with regard to my claim of poor communication, there was a post on your facebook page not long ago telling the public that people have been rude to EAS staff/volunteers when they don't get back to them and how they shouldn't be because everyone is so busy( too busy to hire volunteers who might answer phones, I guess.) If EAS cannot acknowledge the problem, it certainly will not be fixed. Re: funding: So it didn't go into your pocket, you say, but why spend 6 million dollars so you can be open approximately 2 hours a day to the public? I certainly hope the number of adoptions skyrocket going forward , you train people not to be rude (as mentioned here and elsewhere in reviews) and you answer communications because certainly the Evanston taxpayers should see something for their generous funding of your large facility.
