Had an absolute stellar experience at the hotel. Stayed on a Wednesday night. Check-in was smooth and the lady checking us in was super friendly. There is a connivence store plus gas station less than a minutes walk away. We found the room to be clean and incredibly cozy! The price point was very comparable to the other hotels in town so you're not breaking your bank. Heads-up: There is no online reservation so you have to call to make a reservation. And there is no express checkout. You have to check out with a human but the customer counter is always manned regardless of the time of day or night. read more

Been here several times for a quick in and out but stayed for the first time last night. Had drinks and apps in the Firefly Lounge and our server was so on it and very kind. Drinks were very inexpensive. Spent the night in the casino which was really busy but not too busy to get on a machine. Tons of people around cleaning which was nice. Our elderly father wanted to try this place, so 4 of us made the 3 hour drive and stayed overnight at the hotel. I had low expectations based on reviews but we were pleasantly surprised! The rooms were updated and fresh. The staff at both hotel and casino were friendly and helpful. The casino was bigger than we expected, with a mix of new and older slot machines and non-smoking section. 2 of us got hand pays which added to the fun. First off the room was absolutely beautiful. I cannot complain about that room or anything in the room itself. The staff on the other hand were rude short tempered and just downright nasty to be around starting with the front desk person at the hotel and ending with security guard on the way out. Each and everyone of them acted like they hated their jobs. They didn't want to be there. Not one smile from any of them even the customer service person where we got a club card. The only bright spot in the entire casino/hotel was I think her name was Annie she was a waitress in the buffet restaurant. She was smiling, engaging and very, very nice. Out of all of the employees there she was the only one who even smiled a little bit. We went to the buffet, which coincidentally closed in about 30 minutes, so everything was cold. It was hard and the girl who took our money, didn't bother to tell us that they were closing. She just showed us to our table and off she went. I have stayed in recent years in many Minnesota hotel rooms while I traveled for work. This is the best mid-priced Minnesota hotel or motel I've stayed in. The rooms are clean, fresh and well stocked. Only rarely does anything not work. They include nice touches, like a good array of grooming products and a chocolate bar in each room. The food in the restaurant is generally quite tasty. They have a pool, sauna, hot tub and exercise equipment. That area is open until 10 p.m. I am not much of a gambler, but the gaming is a lot of fun. You can actually win there if you know what you're doing, and frequently you can win if you don't. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Yes, it smells like cigarettes inside the casino and sometimes in the hallways, so take that into consideration. As to me, I don't smoke anymore, but I think it's great that there's a place where people can go and smoke, have a meal, drink and gamble without going out in the rain. The casino supports the Upper Sioux Indian Reservation. It's a very small reservation, so the monies they take in on both the gaming and the hotel are well-utilized. Considering Minnesota is land stolen from Native Americans, I think we shouldn't mind having fun while helping some of them out. read more

The room at pool side is kept up but! Jones in the wall,fridge that is dirty.no food late,Benicks vending machine only. Staff informed me after my $7.00 white Castel burger did not dispense or my roast beef sandwich. That they have had nothing but trouble with their vending period. No drinks, no food. Way over priced for rooms,by that I mean when they were new yea ok, now years later? Tv service is a 22 inch TV with 25 channels of nothing realy. So yea why bother? Pool is cold. Never again. I have never encountered such rude staff at any hotel ever. I felt discriminated against.... Our group heard "you people, people like you"... felt racist. they closed the pool early because it was "too wet". I felt we were harassed- told to go to one area with our large group of 13U baseball players only to be told we couldn't be there. First I'll start with the security guards at the doors as soon as you walk up to the doors, very polite. No triple looking at me and my ID like most casinos, he looked at me and then at my ID and opened the door for me and my boyfriend, nice touch. Next I'll start with the food; I had mac n' cheese bites (deep fried mac n' cheese, YUM) and a ham n' cheese sandwich (on wheat bread, healthy!) my boyfriend had the quesadilla which he thought was pretty good for casino food. We second thought about eating at the deli due to the reviews but we decided to try it out anyway, I am very glad we did! Okay, now to the casino; both my boyfriend and I smoke cigarettes, so we weren't too worried about it smelling like smoke. We actually expected it to be way worse than people made it sound, it seemed aired out. As for people saying the machines don't pay out, my boyfriend managed to hit a $800 jackpot (he always has such good luck, ugh) as for me, I only hit $180; which was still not bad! Now the hotel; we got a hotel after we were halfway done gambling, so it was pretty late (about midnight) we were hoping on a smoking room, but they were all taken so we settled on a non-smoking room. The beds were nice and comfy, the tv had very nice quality, the hotel even had complimentary chocolate bars and bottles of water! EXTREMELY NICE gesture! All in the hotel went well except check-out. My boyfriend had gone to check us out this morning and for some reason the lady told him she couldn't help him but the chick at the end of the counter could? This lady was doing nothing but looking at her computer. She could have been more polite and we wouldn't have had any problems. Decent casino however the air quality was horrible and it had a terrible smell. The buffet was decent for the price/size. The service on the other hand was absolutely terrible. I didn't catch the young kid's name, but he never cleared dirty dishes from the table or offered any refills on beverages. He looked at our table numerous times too, but could never flag him down. Came back here for a corporate event. They ruined everyone's fun by trying to scam one of the attendees into paying bill that was already paid for. They accused him of not paying his bill from the bar early on in the evening, but we know he paid, we told them to check their security footage if they needed proof. After about 30min of sitting in around the employee never came back to comfirm, so we had to flag him down and ask what is going on, he sheepishly said "oh, we found it, sorry." The manager of our company and organizer of the event that night had previously said to just put it on her tab if it's an issue, this was prior to us finding out that they just "missplaced" the check. They were going to try to still charge her too. But, that's not where this story ends, our manager gets a call from the casino a couple days later and they still were trying to accuse the attendee of not paying!Show us the proof of us not paying. Our company had just spent thousands of dollars here for a company party and this casino is so desperate to rip them off for 20 bucks. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a weekend to celebrate our anniversary and get away for the weekend. I'll start with the hotel area. The rooms were nice, nothing fancy. Bed was comfortable, but the pillows were rock hard. For the most part I didn't even use a pillow because they were uncomfortable. Our room had a little couch in it, so that was nice for sitting. The rooms don't have fridges in them, so we had to make use of the cold Minnesota winter and use the window area to cool our drinks. My biggest complaint was that you could hear EVERYTHING going on in the hallway. Constant doors slamming, people talking, running up and down the hallways. You could even hear the people on the floor above. I would stay there again, but I'll be better prepared with earplugs, a cooler and my own pillow. The pool area was very dimly lighted, however it was a nice little area. We used the pool and the hot tub. There was a birthday party going on, so there were a ton of little kids with no manners splashing everyone, but that's not the hotels fault. The only complaint we really had with the pool was that it said there were towels available, however there were none so we had to walk back to the room soaking wet. The casino area was very smoky. You were hit with the smell of smoke almost instantly when you walked through the doors. Being a non-smoker and a previous-smoker, we were quite sensitive to the smell. We did walk around a little bit. Tons and tons of slot machines and it looked there were only a couple of tables. We spent most of our time in the non-smoking area of the casino, which was nice however you have to walk through the smoking casino to get to it. There was also a very limited selection of slot machines in the area. The food options were pretty limited. There was the Meadows buffet, a deli and a bar/grill. They were also ALL connected to the casino so you had to walk through the smoky casino to get to any of the dining areas. I thought that was poor because they were all open to the casino, so you could smell the smoke. On night one we decided to go to the Meadows for the buffet. I was not impressed with the buffet at all. Food was mediocre and very limited. Our waitress spent the whole time talking to a friend and never refilled our drinks or even looked at us to see if we needed anything. We also had breakfast here the next day and that wasn't much better. We also ate at the deli for lunch the next day. I got a caesar wrap and it was gross. I barely even finished it. I don't remember what my boyfriend got, but he was not impressed at all. For dinner that evening we decided to try the Firefly Lounge. This place was AWESOME. I wish we had eaten all of our meals there. I got a patty melt which was perfect and my boyfriend got a philly sandwich. Loved everything about this place. The atmosphere was good, it was a little more closed in so you couldn't quite hear and smell the casino and the staff was all very friendly! Next time I go I will definitely eat there again! All in all we had a great time, but there were definitely some drawbacks to this place. read more

This dreadful, rundown place has got to be the worst casino in Minnesota! Dark, dated with a moldy smell. The overall atmosphere is like a ghost town. A simple flatbread pizza took 45 minutes! When it arrived it was poorly presented and cold. A flatbread with cheap cold cuts masquerading as meat topping. A horrible dish. The kind manager offered to comp my lunch but I declined. Every time we have been to this casino, we have gone to the Firefly for lunch. We go around 1pm, after lunch rush, and we have always waited forever to be greeted and for our food to come out. We are here right now waiting as I write this. The elderly couple that came in 20 minutes after us were greeted immediately and they are already halfway done with their food. We are still waiting 45 minutes later for a salad and burger. I don't know why we bother with this place but are definitely not returning. **note: the older woman server was polite but there should be at least two employees working when there are 20+ people in the restaurant. She had to serve the bar, take orders, go back to the kitchen, payments- all by herself. read more

Stayed at Upper Sioux Agency State Park, and went to Prairie's Edge for a nice meal on a Monday night. To get to the restaurant or to go to the restroom, one must walk through the very smoky casino. My son and I both ordered the buffet, and were terribly disappointed. The salad bar was fresh, but mundane and limited. The food in warming trays looked like it had been there for quite some time. This was confirmed by the stale roll that came with a mini-slider. About the only thing edible was the desert. read more

Came from Minneapolis to spend some much needed quality fun time with my husband without our 3 children. Spent one night and spent good money. The trip was ruined however because we ended up getting pulled over by tribal police upon leaving the casino parking lot. The officer stated they were called by casino security, who were watching us on camera sitting in the parking lot. My husband was smoking a cigar, the security told the police that we were smoking marijuana. The officer claimed we were both on video smoking marijuana, they proceeded to put us in separate squad cars and then, I feel, illegally searched our vehicle. After which they impounded our car because the officer "didn't feel we could drive". I assure you we were sober. After the search, he said it was "too cold out to do a field sobriety test outdoors" and that they were going to take him to jail to do the testing. My husband passed the over an HOUR LONG testing session and the officer still wouldn't let us get the car for 12 hours!!!! Needless to say I will be getting a lawyer and hoping they will not continue this behavior. Honestly I hate to even think like this but I can't help but feel that we were racially profiled. My husband is black and I'm white. There were several other people in the parking lot but they chose to focus attention on us for some reason. Turned our happy relaxing weekend into hell. Waited 45 minutes for a burger to go. All the people around me were still waiting for their food when I left. Evidentially one kitchen prepares all the food for the various dining options onsite. So you can't go to another provider onsite for better service. The waitress was nice but it shouldn't take that long when everything on the menu is mostly deep fried or made on a grill. read more

A group of us met at the Meadows Restaurant to discuss business related to our non-profit organization. It was about 12:30PM on a Saturday and the place was deserted. The buffet wasn't open so we ordered from the menu. I had a Cuban with onion rings. The food was okay, nothing special. There was plenty of meat on the Cuban but it was sliced luncheon-style meat. The rings were overcooked. The waitress failed to bring the steak sauce I requested, and she was slow to refill my drink. In fact, she simply brought a new, full glass of ice tea and didn't bother to take the empty glass away, despite the crowded table. So, I give the food three stars and the service two stars. I suppose it is a reasonable place to eat if you are spending a lot of time at the casino, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there unless the buffet (which I did not experience) is much better. read more

Staying here for a business meeting and have enjoyed my stay. Staff is friendly and responsive to questions, the room is okay with everything working though the tub could use an update (it was a nonsmoking room and they must have corrected problems with too much smoke because I didn't notice smoke smells except in the casino itself), the restaurant staff were friendly at the buffet, the casino customer service staff were fun and friendly. It's a small casino and hotel 2.5 hours from the Twin Cities, and better than I expect or usually get from out of the way places like this. Good job on exceeding my expectations! read more

Hotel, I would rate 4 stars along with it's staff. Buffet, went to prime rib night, food got cold by the time we got to table. Salad bar was minimum lettuce bowl down to bottom not refilled, chicken and ribs ok prime rib hard to describe. In a lot of other places we go meal would be $10.95. Didn't lose didn't win just went home. This casino is dark and reminds me of a local bar only here you lose your money not worth the long 5 hr. trip. My 3 guy friends and I chose this place because we needed an escape from a camping trip plagued with poor weather, and this place was great. We didn't know anything about it ahead of time - other than that they had a hot tub - but we were pleasantly surprised all night. The whole place was clean and up to date - in fact, we were surprised to hear that it was 10 years old already. The receptionist was helpful and easy going, joking with us and happily giving us 4 more keys when our buddy kept losing them. Our room was affordable (no mini fridge) and clean. First thing we did was hit the casino bar. It was a nice little spot. They had the Wild and Twins on, some good taps and some fantastic boneless wings. We hit the pool area next - also a pleasant surprise. They had a nice hot tub, plus a sauna and pool. People were sitting around drinking whiskey, so we felt right at home having a drink in the hot tub. Back in the casino, we spent a good deal of time having a lot of fun at the few blackjack tables amidst all the slot machines. The dealers were all very friendly and helpful, plus the other patrons made it a memorable night. I'm pretty sensitive to cigarette smoke, but this place had great ventilation - didn't notice the smoke very much. I understand they have a non-smoking are inside the casino somewhere too, but we didn't explore too much. I'd stay at this place again in a heartbeat if I'm back out in that area. No glitz casino in the middle of nowhere. A couple of tables and the rest slots. Boring, boring, boring. Nothing going on here or around here. The hotel room walls are THIN and an inch gap below the doors, so I heard everything from the neighbor to the hallway noise to the cars outside!! Very noisey!! STAY AWAY!! Lianne at the front desk is rude. We walked in to he hotel and she doesn't smile . There was 4 adults and three children in my party. We had a reservation for 2 rooms. Before we could even speak, she says "you have two rooms right" . Well hello how are you doing today to you too ??? Not friendly or welcoming what so ever. We get into our room and set our stuff down and go walk around and check out the pool and casino,both are nice. I come back and use he bathroom and there is dried blood all over the toilet seat. It's not like it was under the seat, it was right on top. How could they miss it when cleaning. At that point it's like great what else isn't cleaned. I go down the the front desk when Debra tried to help us. She was nice thank god. Lianne was still hovering and had to give her the okay to put us in another room. While we were standing waiting for Debra to get new keys for us this guy walks in and he's standing there. Lianne and him and just looking at each other. She again doesn't say hello or welcome or anything inviting. She said "do you have a room here" and he said yes. She said "are you checked in" and he said no. Like that's why I'm standing in front of you lady. We just started laughing because it was unreal. The guy that came to clean our toilet was very nice but he said to us that the bathroom didn't even look like it was clean. The casino looks ok, and the games are ok. The big disappointment here is the food. I've eaten here several times and the Buffett is HORRIBLE! The food is always dry and old! Even though we went to dinner at 430! The service is bland. I have also order off the menu (which was even worse). I ordered a patty melt cooked medium, and it came out cold and raw in the center. Medium is a pink warm center. After letting the waitress know, she then took the plate back to be redone. 2 mins later she brings out the patty melt and all the had been done was that they put the melt back down on the flat top and seared the inside cut of the sandwich! It was still raw!!!! I could not even eat it!!!! Do yourself a favor and just stay home and make a meal. The kitchen manager should be fired! It could be good if it was executed properly. We stayed in the RV park - which was really nice and clean. RV's were well spaced and the internet was good................ We were awarded with our casino sign-up card, the Wednesday evening buffet at 1/2 price - I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of food and everything I personally ate was fresh and very tasty.
