The perfect romantic getaway! Now, I'm from Red Wing...but I'm 31 years old and it is time for me to stop sleeping on my friend's parent's hide-a-beds when I stop into town. I decided to stay at the Pratt Taber based on their positive online reviews. We booked the Summer Room. Deb was there to greet us & help us get settled. She gave us some details on the happenings that weekend & what to check out. We arrived back from dinner to a plate of gooey brownies that were just straight up sinner-good. We woke up & coffee was ready for us outside our door. We went down to breakfast & Deb served a group of us while we enjoyed talking to the other visitors. When you stay here, you feel like some kind of Victorian royalty with a laid-back vibe. A pretty sweet romantic place to escape to. We will definitely come back.

We took a seat in the parlor and were checked in, given a few recommendations for dinner, then shown our room. I enjoyed the library and parlor rooms very much. We stayed in Margaret's room and slept peacefully. The attention to detail, antiques and such, were spot on. Coffee and tea were brought up to our room at 8:15 in the morning, and left outside our door. A music box was played so that we knew when our beverages were at our door. Fantastic! And we got these amazing little muffins in the cutest little tray/basket. Breakfast was at 9am in the formal dining room. I found the seat with my name next to it, and joined the other guests for a three course breakfast. During our third coarse, we were given a brief history about the house from the inn keeper. Very interesting, indeed. All in all, a wonderful experience.

Sometimes I am nervous about a B&B because the furniture may be old and unkept. But we still enjoyed it. Though I was glad the outdoor dining area was not open yet because it wouldn't have felt as private in our room with that area being part of the view. Please keep in mind that this is a historical hotel so the rooms are odd angles. The bathroom was very small and the toilet sat angled in front of the vanity, so it was a little cramped to try to stand in front of the mirror/sink to get ready (hair, makeup, etc.). I absolutely adored that the room numbers outside the room are vintage post office box doors. The trains blow their whistles a lot at night passing through and this woke us up each night, so keep that in mind if you are a light sleeper. We enjoy trains and liked seeing them (so that is a pro/con, we liked the trains, just not at night when sleeping). We were there for our anniversary and I was pleasantly surprised there was a bottle of champagne on ice in our room upon our arrival with a nice card. So very sweet. I found the bed to be extremely comfy! So much so I meant to see what brand mattress it was but I forgot to look. Darn! The hotel itself is beautiful, I enjoyed walking through when we came and went. It was fun to browse the few shops. Although I was disappointed to not find anything with the St James logo on it, was hoping to buy a souvenir of some sort with the hotel logo (coffee mug or wine glasses?). Maybe I just missed seeing them if they have them? In all we enjoyed our stay and wandering throughout town for a few days.

It was a self check in process, which was fine, but there was literally no one there at all. We dropped our bags in the room and then proceeded to check out the house. We sat in the living room for a bit. Still nobody there, except another couple who seemed to be looking around just like us. We returned to our room, and when I sat on the bed I was overcome by a horrendous odor. We peeled the covers back and tried to determine what this could be. It was so bad that we were no longer planning to stay. It was like old, musty and mildewy. Really gross. We gathered our stuff and left; still never seeing anyone who might work there. I called the # and had to leave a message. I sent an email. The reply said they would look into the matter and we should see a refund in a few days. Not only did we not get any type of a refund (not entirely surprising), but I have not been able to reach anyone to discuss the matter despite several attempts via email and telephone. My last message said I understand we likely wouldn't get a full refund but that I wanted to discuss this experience. This happened in May and it's now July. Still no response from the owners/managers. I had a bit of a bad feeling when we pulled up to the house and there was a for sale sign in the yard. It seems like the owner perhaps already kind of checked out. Bad experience, unfortunately.

Chateau Ramy is named after it's sole proprietor Mr. Ramy, and it's kitchen is run by Executive Chef Mr. Brian. It's located within a few minutes of Menomonie's greatest attractions, it's bars and shops downtown. Chateau Ramy has plenty of off-street parking, but if you decide not to drive which is wise if you've been drinking with Menomonie cops sucking so bad, a cab ride to and from downtown bars is a low cost option at around $11-13. Chateau Ramy is small but makes efficient use of its space. When my party checked-in, the host/owner greeted us promptly at the door, although luggage service was not offered, the close parking didn't make it too much of an inconvenience. Once checked in, I was offered a refreshing complimentary alcoholic beverage which I gladly accepted. Once all settled in, Executive Chef Brian brought us out a base meal, which is the meal one eats before they consume copious amounts of alcohol to stave off extreme hangovers. The base meal consisted of fine cheese spreads, exotic crackers and delectable sausages and tomatoes with a little pizza mixed in. While we ate, we were entertained by friendly banter and a good old fashioned drinking game of hockey. After the game, we ventured out downtown and returned to blown-up air mattresses in the living room that were more than sufficient to slumber on. Then in the AM, after handling a brief morning accident, Chef Brian served us breakfast which was the prefect way to wake up to a class 2 hangover. From what I can remember as my body digested the last of the alcohol remaining in my belly from the night before, breakfast was amazing with small potatoes, eggs, and bread with french pressed coffee on the side being served. We departed soon after to watch the Packer game at the Ale House, who's food sucks by the way, but that for a different review. I would highly recommend this hidden gem known as Chateau Ramy and the food mastery of Executive Chef Brian. Their team work to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable was second to none and we plan on coming back many more times in the future. My only complaint whatsoever is that this B&B is not wifi friendly, although Chateau Ramy has wifi, he would not provide his password claiming he didn't know it, but I assume it's the same password he uses for all of his other passwords and doesn't want to give that sensitive information up, also known as a George Costanza move.

When I arrived on Saturday, I was informed that I missed the Welcome Orientation that was scheduled for me on Friday. At this orientation, I missed receiving my welcome packet which included a suggested itinerary and the tour of facilities by Mr. Ramy himself. Although I was disappointed I missed this important information, I did not feel that it decreased the enjoyment of my stay. As others had mentioned in their reviews, the evening cocktail reception with appetizers and the morning breakfast were superb! I felt that the Chateau did not advertise these perks enough, but they were certainly a welcomed surprise! Although there were some issues with my bed, which for some unknown reason had the plug removed during the night, the stay was cozy and relaxed. I appreciated that the Cheateau allowed for a late check-out and that the housekeeping services were efficient and abundant. I completely recommend this Chateau for your overnight stay in Menomonie. Not only are the views breathtaking from the front entrance, but the host(s) are welcoming and accommodating. The dollar value of the stay, cannot be surpassed!
