We've been to the Pratt Taber several times and it's literally the only B&B we've gone back to more than once. For us, life is very busy and hectic and what we get from a weekend at the Pratt Taber is priceless: warm and cozy comfort and relaxation. The hosts Deb and Ron are witty and kind without being overbearing or too chatty. The coffee is wonderfully strong and the food really top notch. The linens and beds go the extra mile to make you comfortable and it's the little extras that make us feel so at home. And the price is reasonable for what you get, costing less than other boutique hotels in the area. Five stars, no hesitation! I hope this gem stays open long enough for us to come back a few more times because it's truly the best weekend we could imagine each time. read more

My gf and I on a whim were looking for a weekend/overnight get away. Actually, I had wanted to do something special for her for Christmas, but not something material. Then I got Covid. When I got better, I thought more about what I wanted to do and decided on escaping from the cities even for a day. Eventually, choosing the town of Red Wing. It had been a long time since our last va-ca, and giving ourselves ample opportunity to do so throughout the year is important to us. At first, I looked at the hotels in the area, but nothing felt right. Then had the idea of staying at a B & B (Bed and Breakfast.) We began our search and when we saw the Pratt Tabor Inn and read the reviews, went over their website, something in both of us felt good, like the Universe compelled us to try this out. It would be my first time and for my gf it had been years since she went to a b&b with her family. When we arrived, we met Ron, and right away our conversation felt lively and warm. He helped get us situated and settled and the rest as they say was history...I'm a strong believer in my later years that the Universe places people, events, and experiences in your life that aligned with how you want to live your life. I wanted this get-away to be about relaxing and sharing our love for each other, ourselves, and others! And it definitely was. Instead of writing an epic story, which I totally could, I'll list off the highlights of our stay. -Incredible atmosphere -Ellie, Buddy, and Max!! -Wonderful hospitality -Lovely time over Wine, Cheese, Conversations -Amazing dinner suggestions in town, including what to order! -Deb and Ron - delightful human beings -We love sitting down with people to share stories. I loved that both Ron and Deb created the time and space for us to engage with them, as much as we wanted to. -beautiful rooms -fireplace (not real wood) -Popcorn -relax environment -breakfast, coffee, dessert oh my!! So good. So much care. -Bottle of champagne! And flowers (yes it's extra but so worth it!) -Beds -Autumn room I have too many great things to say about Pratt Tabor Inn, but I think the memory I will take with us this first time here was the love, care, and story. We had never been to a B & B before and didn't know what to expect, so for us, this was a bit of an adventure. I'm happy to say that it was nothing but a good one. Deb and Ron were wonderful hosts, greeting us at the door when we arrived and providing us with cold drinks right away. They were also very helpful in helping us choose a place to eat nearby, as we had never been to Red Wing before. Our (Spring) room was lovely, quite comfortable, and very clean. The house really showed all the love and hard work that had been poured into it, with Deb heading up a renovation that would have been as much an act of faith as anything, restoring the house from a wreck to what it was meant to be (and then some). In a few inadequate words, it was absolutely beautiful. The breakfasts, where we enjoyed talking with the other guests (more fun than I expected), were prepared and served by our hosts and included the BEST blueberry muffins I have ever eaten! Really, the food was delicious, and served with fresh juice and coffee. Ron and Deb also suggested places we might want to explore while we were in town, which was very helpful. The perfect romantic getaway! Now, I'm from Red Wing...but I'm 31 years old and it is time for me to stop sleeping on my friend's parent's hide-a-beds when I stop into town. I decided to stay at the Pratt Taber based on their positive online reviews. We booked the Summer Room. Deb was there to greet us & help us get settled. She gave us some details on the happenings that weekend & what to check out. We arrived back from dinner to a plate of gooey brownies that were just straight up sinner-good. We woke up & coffee was ready for us outside our door. We went down to breakfast & Deb served a group of us while we enjoyed talking to the other visitors. When you stay here, you feel like some kind of Victorian royalty with a laid-back vibe. A pretty sweet romantic place to escape to. We will definitely come back. read more

Oh my god, where to even start? First and foremost, DETAILS. This place is FULL of just the most amazing details and who would ever think of these things (down to even the outlet covers!)? It's all Deb. Deb has to be the coolest innkeeper I have ever met- you know how you expect a dilapidated, creepy old gone-to-seed person who is supposed to be like "DO NOT SIT ON THE FURNITURE! DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING! DO NOT LOOK ME IN THE EYE!"... Deb is the polar opposite of this. She encourages you make yourself at home, chill out and relax. She brings you wine and sticks around to talk, enjoy the house with you, and share everything she knows about fixing up houses and historical stuff that's cool to hear. You feel like a friend staying for a weekend, not just a guest or an imposition. And Deb is not alone! Max, the most amazing cat I have ever seen, is her sidekick. He is gigantic (a Ragdoll, I think) and he's so sweet! We would come downstairs in the morning before breakfast and Max would come say hello, tail swishing and his big blue eyes begging for lots of attention (and don't worry if you're allergic- Ragdolls and most other large cats don't shed in the same way smaller cats do so reactions are pretty much nil.) The house itself is beautifully restored and furnished in the kitschy-est, coolest fusion of sumptuous antiques and sweet vintage; we stayed in the Autumn room, where the furniture is not quite Victorian, but still gives an elegant Victorian feel (and the leopard print sheets were just a little touch of sauciness that really made me feel at home.) Every room is like that: the living room has comfortable furniture but you know it's lived in- this is a house through and through, not an artifact emporium. The dining room is an antiquer's wet dream and Deb's got all the details down here- old liquor decanters, a hutch full of vintage china, and the chandelier~ oh man! Dreamy! The kitchen is also very comfy and you can tell that a lot love has gone into it- even the flour and sugar have beautiful vintage coffee jars to live in. Deb's breakfasts are also super homey and delish. I've never had dessert at breakfast before, but makes a gorgeous custard with balsamic reduction and raspberries- if you stay here, mention it... It's too good to miss out on! And the food is all served from the most gorgeous vintage serving dishes and you eat off beautiful plates, drink from water goblets, and have tea in sumptuous tea cups. Absolutely my favorite place to stay ever. Red Wing itself may close up around 5pm even on a Saturday, but you will not care. You will want to stay indoors and enjoy being in truly a home away from home. (Pratt-Taber's off-season rates are also super reasonable for being such a gorgeous place!) read more

I would give this place more than five stars if I could!!! Deb is an absolutely lovely, wonderfully warm woman. She welcomes you in with open arms and does everything she can to accommodate you. There are early evening snacks and wine, which is great fun - we had such a great time chatting with a few other guests and then with Deb and a friend of hers, Kay who was a hoot!! We stayed in the winter room and it was so lovely and the decor was magnificent and the bed was so luxurious! I am still marveling over the pictures that show the detailing in the paint, which was hand stenciled by Deb. There were scrumptious brownies awaiting us when we returned from dinner. The sleep was SO restful and relaxing!! The next morning we enjoyed the most amazing breakfast and wonderful conversation with the other guests, oh and Max, Deb's ragdoll cat. When we left it felt like leaving a good friend's home. We will DEFINITELY return, the only question for us is if we should stay in the winter room again, or try a different one... read more

My gentleman caller and I decided we needed to get out of the city, so a trip to Red Wing seemed just the thing. Who doesn't love antiques and boots and walking next to the Mississippi? Upon our decision to head out, I asked him if he might want to stay over. The answer was yes. Finding a B&B last minute is pretty impossible, however I gave Deb a call at Pratt Taber and was instantly surprised. She told me that she planned on not booking the entire Inn the weekend we were coming down due to renovations, but she would surely make an exception for us. Beyond making an exception, she decided to give us a deal because she only had one room open. Surprised and delighted, I booked the Winter Room for two. After what felt like an epically long journey to get to Red Wing we arrived to smell brownies in the oven, and Ed the giant cat at the door. Deb welcomed us in and knowing that we wanted to get out about town, quickly took us to our room while pointing out the essentials on the way (water, tea, brownies, clementines; all the important things to keep you fat and happy at a B&B). After giving us antique and dinner recommendations, we headed out for the evening. While I am biased because we only experienced the Winter Room, I'd recommend it. The huge king size bed turns into two doubles if you and a friend need a little get away; the bathroom was beautifully updated with a large walk in shower, and the view of the town from the windows was lovely. The next morning boyfriend and I awoke to the smell of eggnog french toast, coffee, apple and Gouda sausage and kielbasa. The food was delicious, and at this point we had a chance to chat with Deb about the Inn and how she came to own and run it. After having looked into various other B&B's in Red Wing, the Pratt Taber seemed the most reasonably priced (even without our discount!) and had lovely service. If you're looking for an over the top experience, Pratt Taber isn't it. Instead Deb has created a quiet, homey atmosphere where her kindness and beauty are seen in how she cares for her tenants. Had a WONDERFUL stay with Deb & Max in the Summer suite at Pratt-Taber. Not sure we'll be able to have another B&B experience without always comparing it back to our time here in Red Wing. It was like they make it look in the movies...just lovely. Delicious homemade breakfasts, a lovely hostess, plenty of privacy, wonderful conversations with new people...all in a lovely backdrop. Autumn until Christmas is a magical time to visit as Deb's decorative creations are worth seeing all on their own. 8 months pregnant and I couldn't have been more comfortable... The attention is really spent on the fine details, and Deb clearly loves and is great at providing such a comforting experience. read more

My wife and I had a wonderful stay on the night of 6/25/15. Which was all too brief, I should add. Plan on spending another day or two. Red Wing is a lot of fun and the inn is within walking distance of everything downtown. This is a very comfortable, roomy inn, with a huge downstairs cat named Max who will greet you at the door. The owners are very friendly and will do just about anything to make you comfortable. Rooms are nicely appointed and the baths are quite up to date. Coffee is left in the upstairs sitting room in the morning; breakfast at 9:00. We had lovely french toast, fresh berries, and whipped cream, or if you prefer, syrup. This is a good spot for old house fans, especially renovators, as the story of the rescue and renovation is quite interesting. We will be returning. Consider: our little vacation stays in limited service chain motels cost over $100 per night. Pratt Taber was an absolute bargain at $137 all-up. read more
