While I am compelled to disclose that this review is mainly based on the office staff, and not, in…read morefact the dentist himself (we'll get there), I should think that a pediatric dentist should be able to find staff that, oh I don't know, actually like/know how to deal with kids! Let's start at the beginning. I researched forever trying to decide where to take my 4 year old for a cleaning/check-up. I'd already had his teeth examined and cleaned at my regular dentist, but I thought he'd be more comfortable in an office geared towards children. What a laugh! Before our appointment, I submitted our new patient paperwork as suggested online (and I was pretty impressed that that was an option). When we arrived, however, the front desk person received us icily without a proper greeting and demanded to know where our paperwork was. When I told her I'd submitted online, she basically called me a liar, and then ate crow a bit later when she realized that my paperwork had come through AFTER she'd done her early morning (and only) check of the day. Ps. Our appointment was at 1pm. In an effort to make my little man's experience as positive as possible, I ignored her shitty attitude, and we sat down and settled into a completely empty waiting room to... wait. Immediately, my son asked where all the toys were. (Even my midwife's office has tons of toys around for kids who accompany mamas to visits!) There was literally nothing to entertain children while they waited in the entire office, save for a sad little chalkboard on one wall. There were not even even any kids' magazines or books! The decor was super generic and not fun (our doctor's office, for example, is clearly decorated with children in mind, which seems appropriate, no?), and I was glad we had brought things to entertain him. Eventually, while I breastfed his baby brother (which also did not seem to go over well with the front desk), he started playing tic-tac-toe with his dad on the board. When a nurse came out to get him--surprise!--he didn't immediately put down the chalk and follow her (hello--he's 4), at which point she was so short and nasty with him, I considered walking out then and there. My husband went back with him for the visit at that point since the babe had fallen asleep in my arms. Once back there, according to Husband, Nurse Ratched continued her short-tempered treatment of our little one, admonished him for shouting several times (he was actually just excited!), and repeatedly told him to lower his voice. I actually heard HER raise her voice at HIM in the waiting room! She also spoke to him in an extremely condescending manner, as if he were a baby, which neither he nor we appreciated. Although the dentist himself seemed to be pretty sweet, knowledgeable, and was great with our son, unfortunately, most of a child's interaction (and ours) takes place with the ancillary staff, and thus, this is not the office for us. We will not return, and we will recommend against it to friends and family. Poor Dr. Ruffalo should find some staff who mirror his professionalism and kindness. The people he has now are sadly, not it.
