First, let me say the dentist did a good job. No problems in that area. The problems started with the office's draconian policies. You have to cancel an appointment A WEEK IN ADVANCE or they charge you! Who knows a week ahead of time if something is going to come up that would make you cancel an appointment? Plus they make you pay a deposit when you make an appointment and you have to prepay BEFORE the appointment starts. I've never heard of that. So, you can see where their priorities lies. I went in for an assessment and received a lengthy treatment plan. I made an appointment and it wasn't until a few days later I thought maybe they were planning to do all the work at once. I called to ask and yes, it was the case. That was too much work at once for me so I arranged to get just a few procedures at my next appointment. I wasn't given an amount I was expected to pay at the appointment. I checked the treatment plan and determined the copays would be covered by my flexcard for Medicare so was not prepared for a large expenditure. I went in for the appointment and the person at the desk was quite rude. I went to the desk and waited for her to acknowledge me but she didn't so I said my name, waited again and she didn't say anything. So I started to go and sit down. Then she said something about signing some papers so I turned around and went back to the desk. Apparently, I was supposed to pay $1200 that day before my appointment to prepay on crowns for root canals I was getting which I had not expected. As I hadn't prepared for that amount, I was taken aback and what was going through my head in that split second was what's the best way to pay this for me financially? Will they charge me a fee if I cancel? Will I lose my deposit? What cards do I have on me? Do I have time to do a transfer from savings to checking? Should I take money from my 401k? In my haste I thought I could use my flexcard and put the rest on the only credit card I had with me that would cover it, which I didn't really want to as it had a high balance already. I also have pretty rough physical issues that make just going somewhere a major chore so I didn't want to have to come back. So, I try 3 times to put my flexcard through their machine and each time it didn't work. Finally, the girl spoke up and said the last customer's card didn't work either. It wasn't till much later that I realized she probably wasn't pressing the right buttons. It was completely their fault as I checked later and the card was fine. So, I ended up putting the entire amount on my credit card. It was a lengthy procedure with alot of novacaine involved and wasn't till the next day that I felt better and thought I probably should have used another card I had that had no interest for 6 months so I called to see if they would switch my bill to the other card. Guess what? They refused. They said they paid a fee for me to use my card and they weren't going to pay a second fee. When I suggested they call the credit card company and try to get the fee waived they brushed me off. And, she said, "Well, you signed these papers" like I was disputing the amount and I thought that very rude. She also made some other rude comments. So, now, I'm stuck paying almost 30% interest every month for God knows how long until I pay off the entire balance on my card and my minimum payment has doubled. I had to go back to get my crowns but that's it. They mysteriously weren't able to take my flexcard plus sprung this large bill on me and wouldn't do anything to make it right. Terrible! Do not even try to book an appointment with them. We waited 6 months for cleaning appointments for the kids and they canceled less than 24 hours before. Said next available appts weren't for 6 more months. They were rude and unprofessional. Do not even try. read more

I have been very fond of Pitts Dental Spa. I have canceled appointments and so have they. Recently I was to have some work redone. They canceled my appointment in less than a weeks notice, because the dentist had an emergency. When my sister got sick and passed away, I canceled the same appointment of which I had made a$100 deposit. Since it wasn't a weeks notice, I forfeited my deposit and they expected me to pay $100 again. Anything can happen in a weeks time, one would think they would be more considerate of life happening. In my 27 years I've never had a good dental experience aside from routine (no cavity) ones as a kid. 15 years of depression and several bad experiences caused a real lapse in my proper dental care. A friend encouraged me to schedule at the dental spa. Im so glad she did. The staff was incredibly friendly and nonjudgmental from start to finish. When I found out I needed a root canal and had a cavity I was stressed. My last cavities, the Novocain didn't take and I felt EVERYTHING. My last root canal, it wore off half way through and i felt everything. I opted to do nitrous in addition to Novocain to try and make it a better experience for myself. Once again, every person I encountered was so kind. My lapse in dental care wasn't something I was made to feel bad about. They were just glad I was ready to get it taken care. The doctor was so kind and did such great work. During the entire procedure I never felt pain, just pressure which was a huge difference from my past experiences. I have had a TON of work done over a 6 month period... and am almost done. I can't wait to love my smile again. He changes lives. He truly is a gifted man and so kind. After Dr. Runco & his staff looked at my teeth and made me feel awful about the composite work done by another dentist, stating it to be appalling, they then drilled into the tooth themselves and made it look about 10 times worse, including leaving big gray and black marks of my teeth from the fillings, even after going back TWICE to have it made to look cosmetically better. And it was one of my front teeth. Because of Dr. Runco & his staff, I have felt self conscious over every laugh and smile every single day for the two past years. Each time I visited the office for a teeth cleaning, Dr. Runco would continue to re-iterate how terrible the tooth (and subsequently my smile) looked, and offer to put a crown over it at full price of course, even though he was the cause of the damage. Terrified to let him do anything other than a teeth cleaning, & not wanting to give him the money for it, I refused every time. I am now in a new state & finally summoned the courage to go a new dentist. He fixed Dr. Runco's SHODDY work today and it looks absolutely beautiful. It really makes me wonder....why couldn't Dr. Runco - a cosmetic dentist- achieve that same result for me? And why was his continual recommendation to fix it with a crown, rather than repairing the shoddy work with another filling, as the dentist I went to today was capable of? Probably because he is a rip off artist. Also, don't believe the stories of what a friendly dentist he is to those who are dentist phobic - he showed his frustration to his staff and snapped at them many times during the process of wrecking my tooth, and I was never once offered sedation, laughing gas, or anything else to ease my nerves, even though I made it clear from the beginning that I was not fond of the dentist. In short, Dr. Runco took my dental fears and made them worse, took my tooth and made it worse, and then wanted to me pay for his mistakes. I can't believe that I never came back to update this. I still love Pittsburgh Dental Spa. I legit recommend them to everyone who I know. Getting laughing gas for a dental cleaning is the best. I just relax and don't even care about the sounds and scraping. The heated massage chairs take the whole experience to another level. I love that I get a lip balm in my little dental goodie bag every time I go. I stash my Pittsburgh dental spa balms in all of my purses and all over my house so that I always have one and never have to buy a chapstick again. This place has taken someone with intense fear and avoidance (for no reason...I didn't even need fillings!) of the dentist, and turned it into a relaxing and enjoyable experience. After a very bad experience years ago I have been terrified of dentists. I did go to a dentist who was a personal friend the past several years but he retired. When I cracked a tooth and needed other work done I decided to try the Dental Spa. And I am so glad I did, The initial exam was very pleasant, the dental hygienists were fun, gentle and kind. The massage chair and getting to watch the Olympics on the ceiling mounted TV really helped. It was decided I needed several root canals and some permanent bridges to replace some missing back teeth and redo my front teeth which were also losing the rather large fillings. It was scheduled and I was given a prescription for a sedative. They also gave me a whitening kit so my lower front teeth would be their whitest when the upper front bridge were made. I had the 5 hour procedure 4 days ago.I went into the relaxation room, laid down on a comfortable chaise with a fluffy blanket. There was a soft glow from a salt lamp, ocean sounds playing and a scented candle burning. After I was sedated they did the procedures. Next thing I know I was being tucked into my bed at home, no memory of the surgery at all.There was minimal swelling, very little pain and the temporary bridges look amazing,just like my real teeth. I can't wait until the permanent ones come in. They called me 2 days after the procedure to see how I was doing and had me come back in today to check my bite and make any slight corrections. It was a wonderful experience and I would really recommend The Dental Spa at Robinson, Dr. Runco and his entire staff to everyone. read more

This was my first time here for any dental work and I had stumbled upon it while on Yelp. I honestly thought the 5 star ratings were fluff - who actually comes out satisfied from dental appointments? Truth be told, I was thoroughly impressed with my experience here. I haven't been to a dentist in probably about 2 years, so I knew I was way over due for a teeth cleaning and in bad shape. They started off with the routine x-ray of my teeth with what seemed like very up-to-date and 'state-of-the-art' equipment. Then they brought me to the adjacent room where I would see the doctor and get my cleaning. Rather than stark white walls like I'm used to, everything was either really bright or warm so I didn't feel like I was a prisoner strapped to a chair. The rooms had ceiling TVs which were a nice touch and each dental chair had a built in massager - definitely playing into the spa theme and effect. After looking at my x-ray with the dental assistant the doctor came in and gave me a brief run down - both were very friendly and helpful with questions. The cleaning itself was as pleasant as a routine cleaning could get. For not going in 2 years I knew they were bad, but this cleaning was the most pain-free that I've possibly ever had, even when I went regularly every 6 months. The staff was great from the first hello to the last good-bye. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area, or even if you're not. I have some follow-up that I need to take care of and will absolutely be coming back for that. read more

Went in to have a procedure at 6 am this morning. Had 3 root canals, 3 cavities, 2 wisdom extractions, and a full perodontal on all teeth. That's a lot of work for one visit. But they knocked it out of the park. I don't remember much from the procedure. Maybe bits and pieces but nothing crazy. I highly recommend Dr. Tim Runco and everyone at The Dental Spa. This is the best dentist office I have ever been to. The office itself is gorgeous and feels so relaxing just walking in. The whole staff is unbelievable. They treat you like you are family and you can tell just from watching them interact with each other while sitting in the waiting room that they have so much respect for each other and that definitely spreads to the treatment of their clients. I love how easy it is to get an appointment and the staff is very diligent about getting your appointment, making sure you remember your appointment and reminding you to schedule future appointments.
