The waiting area is small and cozy with decorative plants and small wooden sculptures that warm up the place. Dr. Alicia tan has two very friendly staff, which are well-trained to provide anything that a stressed-out patient needs. My girlfriend has very little tolerance for pain. She can barely get through their standard teeth cleaning procedure without crying out in pain. I laughed out loud when the assistants gave her a stress ball to squeeze during the entire procedure, because they knew she was coming. Although she still ended up crying throughout her oral prophylaxis, Dr. Tan was still very considerate (and patient), and allowed multiple breaks during the process to let her gargle with ice cold water. Because of her great patience and concern for her patients, Dr. Alicia should be on the top of your list when thinking of a great dentist for your kids, or for those who still act like kids.

But I'm sure that the worst, and I mean absolute worst thing that could happen would probably be a toothache. It's the kind of jarring pain that can, at its easiest leave you holding your jaw and at its worst, leave you writhing in pain. Naturally, you have to get that dealt with asap. Cudos to Pizarro being right in my backyard. All I needed to do was take a walk to get to the clinic. The doctor was sociable. Definitely not the type who just looks their patients over, gives a diagnosis and shoos you off. I appreciated his rapport. Really put me at ease. Dentists are usually scary, okay? You can't convince me otherwise. So, I've been here twice: first for a diagnosis and the second time for an extraction. The diagnosis wasn't so bad. The dentist looked my teeth over a few times and cleaned them, nothing too intense. The good part was that he was willing to answer my questions and was willing to work around the bad tooth which may have quirked during the cleaning. The extraction was a long, complicated process though. Nothing on the dentist's part. He was efficient and thorough but no matter how much anaesthetic he used (and he did top me up the minute I showed any signs of discomfort), it still hurt like the buggery. Apparently my veins are extra sensitive. It was a long two hours with my mouth hanging open. He's also good with post-surgical care. He'll tell you everything you need to know: what you can eat, what to expect, how to keep swelling down. And he does schedule a check up appointment around a week after to see how you're coming along. Most dentist appointments are crazy scary but Dr. Carlos does make you feel like you're in good hands.

The receptionist / dental assistant gave my the form to fill up and called my health care provider to double check the coverage. Looks like everything checked out well. I was just waiting for my turn. Heard from the very thin walls of the actual dentist's chair and their reception area that the doctor is still with a patient. The kid in the chair and his mother waiting. It's 3.20PM and the kid is finally done. The mother will have something checked out too. The overzealous assistant and dentist offered the mom for a cleaning as well. All the while the assistant knows that the 3pm appointment is already waiting. I'm not waiting a second longer. When she stepped out, I asked for my Company ID and Maxicare card and got the hell out of there. I really want to give the assistant an earful but there's a kid somewhere inside so I decided not to. I'm pretty sure the mom could here me at the waiting area too and had the audacity to keep blabbering and asked for a procedure that IS NOT PART OF THEIR APPOINTMENT. To top it all I had to go to this clinic which is 2-3 block away with roads under muddy repair under the rain and heavy car and foot traffic. So overall, I won't ever come back here. If you value your time, so should you.

Keeping that in mind, we've found Dr. Vega Dental Clinic in H.V.Dela Costa Street. Actually we found it by chance when we were climbing the tiny stairs to get to Elbert's Steak (a great restaurant at the same Sagittarius III Building). We got curious and decided to try. Dr. Vega is professional and my husband's orthodontics treatment is going really well. Vega gives precise deadlines for the treatment and we appreciate that. I must warn you that the clinic doesn't look modern. Aesthetically, it seems to have stopped somewhere in the early 90s. But focus on your treatment and you'll be fine.

The clinic feels more like a chill lounge than a dental office: super clean, bright, those comfy chairs with the big screens (I binged half an episode of The Office while they did scans). Everyone from the front desk to the assistants remembered my name and made me feel genuinely taken care of. Zero pain, clear next steps, and my trays already feel way more comfortable than I expected. Five stars all the way--finally found a place I actually look forward to going back to.
