I have been having back pain for more than a year before going to see Dr. Rafia. I admit I was a bit scared coming in since it was my first time and have never had an acupuncture session before. Dr. Rafia was so nice and made sure I was comfortable. A few months before my first session I started losing mobility on my left arm, I was in pain and couldn't raise my left arm straight up but after my first session; I was able to move my left arm around and straight up with out any pain. I came to see Dr Rafia because of continued chronic hip and buttock pain due to piriformis syndrome. Chiropractic treatments weren't helping and I was just about at the end of my very tenuous rope. Checked on Yelp and saw some awesome reviews of Dr Rafia and was particularly taken with the fact that she didn't go into too much of the tongue and pulse style of TCM. I don't need to know that, I just needed some pain relief. I was hoping for a walk-in appointment and called in to her office. Unfortunately she was fully booked (goes to show she's a good doctor) but we arranged appointment for the next day. I've seen her several times since...... and the pain has almost gone. Swelling and pain on my left knee that I was also experiencing vanished in just two sessions. She is remarkably gentle and friendly with a reassuring touch, always asking if you're okay. She also offers electrical stimulation on the needles and that really helps, along with cupping if you feel so inclined. Its a small office, as are the treatment rooms, but the ambiance is soothing and pleasant and once you're on the table and relaxing with eyes closed, then all is right with the world. She doesn't look at the tongue or feel your pulse or talk about your constitution like most native Asian doctors. I started bringing my two children to Dr. Rafia in July of 2015 after two separate orthopedists told me that the best treatment for my kid's issues was acupuncture. And so I found Dr. Rafia through a groupon deal and have to say it was one of the best finds I have made so far through groupon!! Dr. Rafia has been treating my daughter's shoulder that she injured playing water polo and where no other Western medicine or treatments could help her with her pain and use of her shoulder, Dr. Rafia provided her with complete relief and she can now play water polo again, pain free!!! Dr. Rafia has also started treating my daughter for her depression and menstrual cramps, and again with both issues my daughter is no longer suffering from them through Dr. Rafia's acupuncture treatments!
