While some people have recently slammed Premier Estate Sales for what they called dishonesty and unprofessional conduct during their mother's estate sale, I would like to add some information that is VERY incorrect in that review. Everything was priced according to an expert in Asian antiquities. The Asian arts market has recently (in the last couple of years) declined greatly in value. It is also true that the emotional connection to an item greatly increases the value that the owner places on the item instead of what the market may be. The market is what someone is willing to pay for that item. Neither one of the two people who wrote reviews for this company was the actual person who hired Premier so in that, they are incorrect. I doubt that they even read the contract since they did not sign it. The items that they said were worth hundreds of dollars were not, in fact, worth much money nor were they old. I know for a fact that no one thrashed through the zen garden because I was there during the entire sale and only found 1 couple who were strolling on the path and they were asked to leave which they did immediately. Anything that a relative felt was extremely valuable or didn't want to be sold had plenty of opportunity to remove those items before the sale. In fact, they were told to remove the items but chose not to do so. And yes, one item was given away by the person who had control of the estate (also the person who hired Premier). I know this because I was the recipient of that gift. I was harassed by telephone as were the Premier owners by the person who wrote a review, not the person who had control of the estate (I heard the threats and name calling that this person made in a recorded conversation.) Premier is a good company (and yes, I work for them sometimes) but I am also (along with 30 or 40 people who regularly attend their sales) a customer and an antiques dealer myself. They are honest and work very hard at being as professional as possible. Unfortunately, some clients are difficult to work with. The client herself was very personable, easy to work with and is a credit to her mother. It is easy to slam a company on Yelp because there is no one to tell you that you are incorrect. It was the worst experience, with condescending comments made to my sister in front of buyers. They did not try to fairly price items and did not act professionally. There were two workers who were very polite. They knew no one was living there and they were not prepared that we could not provide WiFi so even though they said they could not take cash, they took cash. They did the job hurriedly and didn't care that they were truly not prepared. They did not have enough staff on the second day which resulted in theft of items. I have done business with them repetively and have found them to be reliable, honest, detail oriented, and consistent with their service. They methodically price the inventory and conduct their sales with numerous staff members on deck during the sale so that they are able to assist buyers and answer questions during the sale. I love me some swap meets, along with garage and estate sales. I've gone to them for decades and along the way, have picked up some pretty cool gems. The estate sales that I have experienced that are put on by Premier always seem poorly run and very disorganized. Most of the staff that I've dealt with have seemed unfriendly and give curt answers to innocuous questions. One employee was exceptionally rude. I've put off writing this review for some time as I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I really don't like writing 1 star reviews; (note that less than 10% of my reviews are 1 star.) The catalyst for me writing a review is this; In reading the reviews (both published and "not recommended") and speaking with friends who don't have a Yelp account, I've come to find that my experiences has not been unique. I just totally body slammed another estate sale company in a review and it got me thinking that I should keep it positive by giving a shout out to the companies in the area that are doing a great job. I've been to a million Premier Estate Sales. They're always organized and professional. The cash register lady can get kinda crabby but you would too if you had to deal w/ the craziness that can go on at these events. I love her! The younger dudes who always help out are very polite and will quickly carry whatever you need to your car or truck. Out of all the estate sales business in our area, San Luis Obispo county as well as Santa Barbara county this crew are absolutely the most fair in pricing as well as helpful! They also have a great Facebook page that keeps us well informed as to sales and future upcoming sales! I am very appreciative of the fact that they post a lot of pictures of the sales ahead of time. Recently hired Premier to handle my mother's estate sale. They seemed professional and had all the right paperwork so we trusted them. My recommendation is that, if you are hiring estate people, be SURE to go over after it is all set up and check the prices. For some reason we assumed they knew the value of Asian antiques as they had seen the house. False assumption. Everything went at garage sale prices that should have been thousands of dollars for very rare, one of a kind Asian antiques, many museum quality. A few things we asked to hold back for auction, and one priceless item was sold, and they don't even have any record of who bought, amount of money, etc. Then when we had arranged the day after for my sister and I to go and gather the things left we wanted to keep of our mother's precious worldly treasures, everything had been already packed up and sent to some unnamed thrift shop, even though they knew we were coming Tuesday to do this. They said they expected a long line of people and we assumed they would have security and let in 10 people or so at a time. Wrong again. No security, hundreds of people tromping her lovely zen garden (we requested off limits), and things were missing. One $500 hundred year old pot went for $50, (we sold one for $500 the week before)... others missing altogether. A very sad ending to an extraordinary life. We were too trusting, sellers be warned. Ive been a follower of their salea for quite some time and have never seen the low level of professionalism mentioned by others. If I owned art pieces as valuable as was stated then I would think an art auction might have been in order. I've found them to be professional, knowledgeable and organized and pleasant to be around. Ive been to some sales that they roped off certain areas that were off limits, remove shoes and some where no children allowed. Sometimes customers go where they shouldnt no matter what is done to prevent it. I've never seen them be rude to anyone. Try to trip someone....seriously.... don't believe that happened quite that way. They are great company and even though I've never used them for a sale, I'd use them in a heartbeat. I happened to find myself at an estate sale that this company organized. And having never really frequent estate sales, I was very pleased that the whole process was easy and enjoyable. They had everything marked and everyone who was working the sale was very nice and friendly. If I needed someone to hire for an estate sale it would be this company. read more

I went to an estate sale last week operated by "Premier estate sales & Appraisals. As I walking down to pay I asked if they would be selling some small storage bins when they were done with them. I was quoted $4. with a lid and $2. without, did I want them? Not being in the greatest shape I said no thanks, I have found them new for that price in stores and proceeded to the table to pay. After asking how much for a couple of unmarked items I was quoted $6 for my purchase. I asked if he would take $5. ? He looked at me and said no and now the bins are $5. for you! In disbelief I looked at him and said, you don't have to be rude. After standing there for a second I asked him if he wanted to sell this stuff or not (and I was willing to pay the $6.). He looked at me and said no. My response ~ You're a jerk, keep your stuff! As I turned to walk away he put his foot out and tried to trip me!! Immediately I turned to him, in shock, and asked if he just tried to trip me??? A woman standing next to him witnessed the whole thing and with a shocked look on her face said to him, "I can't believe you just did that!" He then moved toward me with a threatening look on his face and asked me what I was going to do about it and then moved right in to my face and asked if I wanted to take it to the street! REALLY?????? My response ~ Oh you're a big man challenging a woman to fight, aren't you??? I then asked who the owner was and turns out he was standing at the top of the stairs watching the whole thing. As I turned to go speak with owner, Shawn Ivey, this idiot tried tripping me a second time!!!!! YES, I completely lost it!!! I asked the owner what he was going to do about this? His question to me....What do you want me to do? Should I send him home for the day? My response ~ this guy is a liability to your business, you figure it out! I shutter to think of the outcome if he had succeeded in tripping me! Hind sight is 20/20, if I had maintained half my wits I would have called police! After posting a brief comment on facebook a few people I know have responded with several negative experiences with this company. I've struggled putting this together because it stirs up those emotions again. I didn't realize the true impact it had on me until a few days later. I am putting this out there because I wouldn't want anyone to go through a similar experience. You can also find a few other reviews on how they conduct business with people that hire them after losing a loved one. Not good! If you have had a bad experience with this company I urge you to write a review so people are aware of what they're dealing with if they choose to hire them. This kind of behavior needs to be stopped! With employees like this, and management that apparently thinks it's ok, it is only a matter of time before it happens again and that person may not be as lucky as I was to still be standing. I got a very strong impression the owner, Shawn Ivey, doesn't have a problem with this behavior as he stood and watched it all go down and never said or did a thing!!! If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation of needing to hire an estate sale company I would strongly suggest you eliminate "Premier estate sales & Appraisals" from your consideration. I try to hit every estate sale in the 5 Cities area. I can honestly say that Premier is the most fairly priced ! Now I don't waste my time on others & go only to their sales. The other Estate sales put on privately or by competitors price their items at retail value. The whole point of going to Estate sales is to find a collectible that is a bargain. I have been reading the other reviews on Yelp regarding Premier Estate Sales and I see they have all been by people that go to estate sales and are looking to buy quality goods. Lets look at it from another perspective, from someone who was involved with hiring Premier Estate Sales to help in liquidating a deceased family members belongings. We found Premier Estate Sales lacking in professionalism and were dishonest. We were told some very valuable items would be sold for a certain amount but when someone showed interest in buying the item the price had dropped considerably and without our approval. We also discovered things that were not for sale were missing after the sale ended. When the owner of Premier was asked about this we were told that they were given away. Not true. All I can say is please shop around if you are looking for someone to handle an estate sale. We trusted this company to be honest and fair and found it lacking in these qualities. read more
