I live a block and a half away and would rather drive 30 minutes to Guitar Center…read more.... After Gratz music closed this is the only music shop in Valparaiso. You can get music lessons and a few instrument accessories here like strings, picks, etc... They have a very small selection of guitars and amplifiers, some sheet music books, and other doodads but their showroom is about the size of a large closet. They Host open mic nights which are a favorite for some local artists and music fans. However, I have always felt the staff was fairly condescending and curt. Your mileage may vary. They seem to cater to blues/folk musicians mostly so people who play other genres may be out of luck when looking for gear or advice. If you are looking for stage gear, lighting, recording gear, drums, effects pedals, an extensive selection of guitars, basses, microphones, straps, picks, beat machines, synthesizers, well.... pretty much anything relating to any genre of music beside folk/blues, this place does NOT have it. and if they happen to have it, it will be 50% more expensive than any other music store on the planet. Anyone who isn't friends with the owners or isnt a local blues/folk musician should definitely invest the 3 dollars in gas to go to guitar center a few towns over. The only time i ever go here is if i need strings for my acoustic guitar. The rest of my thousands of dollars of music equipment was bought elsewhere because Front porch didnt have it or it was so expensive it was worth driving an hour to get it somewhere else.

Lessons are competitively priced. Buy a guitar here instead of going to a big company like Guitar Center--support your small businesses! They have all sorts of great accessories. I cannot say enough great things about this place. Open stages here are fun to attend and kid friendly. They have great group classes for teens and adults.

UPDATE: This fake Christian dumbass owner, Ken at Roxy Music cannot stop lying if he tried. You…read moreguessed it, including making more inconsistent offerings that are yet reneged when viewing how much it would cost him for THEIR ADMITTED MISTAKE! That's right, they screwed up admittedly to messing up my guitar and in communications about what was supposed to be worked on. Let's get the story straight, I insisted Ken fix my guitar, he did not offer shit initially. Interestingly Ken brings up a full refret now as if he knows something I don't. A full refret was never spoken of until he had a meeting with his "luthier". You must know it needs a full refret bud. Check out this guys behavior. He offers up to a full refret at the shop of my choice and then renegs because he "read something wrong" on the website about the price. I'll break it down for you. Ken misreads somehow $300 for a full refret which is actually $550 and offers me a full refret up to $300. One fret replaced starts at $330. I bring this up and Ken says I'm right but he can't cover the full refret at $550 that he will only cover 3 frets. As soon as he saw that price of $550 he reneged. How shitty is that? So I would then have to foot the bill for something this guy just said he would cover. He bailed on me like a true slime ball. Then all of a sudden he offers only to fix 3 frets as this would be the cheaper route for him to go. Figures. That's exactly why this store is ran this way and I ran into all of these issues because the owner is a fraud and can't keep a consistent offering. You're guaranteed to have this guy change his entire deal mid conversation without warning, it's pretty bizarre. This behavior spills over into the staff heavily and Integrity is completely lost at this place. Imagine being me and going through this and STILL not having a fixed guitar because they fucked it up! Ken wants to talk about his vintage instruments and how perfect they are while my instrument is ruined because of your trash-bin "luthier". Imagine this as well, having the title "Christian" attached to your name and your background but then doing this to a customer. Dishonor upon your head, you read something wrong, so own up to it and keep your word. If you know you errored, man up and say I'll pay the price for the full refret. You just got done agreeing to pay $300 because that's what you believed was the price for a full refret. You'd adjust and pay the $550 if you actually had integrity. It's not my problem you cannot read. You're just a wishy washy dude and that's as slimy as it gets. The next time you preach a message you go ahead and think about how you screwed me over and put that fake smile on having others believe you're a good guy. You're unfit and unworthy of owning a guitar shop and being behind any pulpit with the way you mislead customers. Do the people you preach to know your business practices? I think they'd find you better off on mute if they knew, bud. Notice in our text messages I never accepted or denied your offer, you made the decision on your own to remove it. You're a phony and you ruined my guitar! Thanks a lot, asshole! Notice this clown says in response to my review that the communication became no longer "constructive". No, what happened was I called you out for being a fraud and reneging and it became inconvenient for you so you bailed. Ken, you didn't offer anything past the original work, you reneged to 3 frets after offering a full refret because you're a cheap bastard. You literally cannot stop lying, dude. You're scummy. Your customers will become 0 customers in no time. The original owner of this place is tossing and turning in the ground watching Ken destroy this business. You see Ken's lies in real time, people who read this review. Ken refunded me $60 for the "work" they did aka fucking up my guitar and now it's going to cost me hundreds because of this asshole. Refunding me my original payment doesn't fix the damaged you caused, you little punk bitch.

I really don't know what to say about guitar center anymore. I've been coming here for years and…read morerealized I never did a yelp review. The store is clean and well organized so that is perfect. They have a nice price range of electric guitars, and then they have an acoustic room with a good selection as well. There's an area for percussion instruments, an area for electric keyboards, and they even have an area for people that would do DJ / live performance work. The downfall of the store for me is the clients. There is no control over it. The people that work there have been very friendly. I just think sometimes when I go in there, I get a little irritated because there are little kids running all over the store and pounding on the keyboards. Sometimes they will be smashing up the drums. I understand kids need to have fun. Please don't get me wrong and it is a fun store but sometimes when you are trying to hear an instrument that you're interested in when kids are running and screaming around. It is hard to focus. My husband and I were looking at keyboards on the day we came in and there were parents with their little kids just slapping on the keyboards. It was very noisy in there. The children were extremely young, so I don't think that the parent was looking to spend that kind of money on an instrument for such a small child. Again, don't get me wrong. I love kids. It's just that when you're going to a store to drop a good chunk of change on an instrument sometimes you want to be able to hear that without the screaming and running around.

Tried to replace it herself via Youtube and was unable to. Brought it to Broadway and Andy took a lot of time to show her step by step how to do it herself next time it happens! Didnt even charge us for the restring! So to make up for it, we bought an awesome new guitar case and a tool to help with restringing. They also refurnished her older (first) electric guitar (a cheap secondhand ION) a few months earlier with new pickups, cleaned the entire guitar and did such a great job..Forget Amazon crap or Guitar Center...will support this local small business for now on. Love the personal service here and we will continue to shop here for any and all gear AND future guitar purchases. Thanks again Andy! You made this father's day!
