Paid him in full and expected them to contact me when the product arrived. I go to see him a few weeks later since they had not contacted me, and he tells me the product is on back order due to Covid. I ask for a refund since the product is no longer available, and he refused, stating he had already paid Peavey and was unable to be reimbursed by them, promising to get the speakers to me as soon as they were off back order. I made regular visits to follow-up with no updates or efforts by them, until about a year later when I was forced to move for work. I spoke to him and made arrangements so when the speakers were off back order, I could have someone local pick them up for me. I hear nothing for a year and a half until I move back to the region. At that time, they confirmed that peavey is now shipping again, but the subwoofer I ordered is discontinued. They also blamed me for not purchasing the speakers since "they didn't know where I was" even though I had informed them. Agreed with them on the equivalent Peavey sub offering, but was told they need copies of my receipt so they can contact peavey to get the order corrected. This was on 4/9/24. A few weeks later, they have not contacted me yet again, so I show up at their shop. They tell me they are unable to order the speakers since they don't have the money. I asked them what the difference is since peavey already has the original amount paid from three years ago. They reveal peavey never received any money from them, and the money I paid was absorbed into their bills, but they promise to get the money together and order the speakers as agreed. They proceed to not contact me (yet again) until I show up on 7/18 wanting to know if the speakers have arrived yet. They then go ahead and try to blame ME for not stopping by, so they didn't order the speakers yet, but promise they have the money and will order it tomorrow. I hear nothing from them again until today 7/30 when I stop by wondering when my speakers will arrive. They then tell me they don't have the money, they don't know when they will in order to purchase the speakers, and I'll just have to be patient. It has been three years, and countless lies and gaslighting. Jim even threw in a racist comment about Peavey being a Chinese company keeping their money when the "story" was that they had paid peavey but the product was on back order. I am now stuck with the prospect of having to use the judicial system to be made whole. I have given this business three years of good faith and patience, just to be stolen from, lied to, gaslit, and even threatened with a voicemail saying if I sue I will get nothing. Avoid this business at all costs! This is not a music store, this is a front for con-artists and thieves!

And, I have to say I have the most difficult 6 year old (personality-wise) and how Mr. Alex is able to teach her ukulele is beyond me. He has the patience of a saint. The two older ones also take voice, at first we just started it to offset the fact that their friends were in summer sports and they weren't interested; however, they didn't want to stop when school started. Being at HGS is something we all look forward to every week. Not only are the teacher talented, and REAL working musicians, but they have a caring for children that I do not think we would find somewhere else. I would recommend them to anyone!

You can get music lessons and a few instrument accessories here like strings, picks, etc... They have a very small selection of guitars and amplifiers, some sheet music books, and other doodads but their showroom is about the size of a large closet. They Host open mic nights which are a favorite for some local artists and music fans. However, I have always felt the staff was fairly condescending and curt. Your mileage may vary. They seem to cater to blues/folk musicians mostly so people who play other genres may be out of luck when looking for gear or advice. If you are looking for stage gear, lighting, recording gear, drums, effects pedals, an extensive selection of guitars, basses, microphones, straps, picks, beat machines, synthesizers, well.... pretty much anything relating to any genre of music beside folk/blues, this place does NOT have it. and if they happen to have it, it will be 50% more expensive than any other music store on the planet. Anyone who isn't friends with the owners or isnt a local blues/folk musician should definitely invest the 3 dollars in gas to go to guitar center a few towns over. The only time i ever go here is if i need strings for my acoustic guitar. The rest of my thousands of dollars of music equipment was bought elsewhere because Front porch didnt have it or it was so expensive it was worth driving an hour to get it somewhere else.

I was called the following day and Notified that the guitar restringing was Completed but that the neck needed adjustment & the repair person for that isn't there but would "probably" be in on Monday and someone would call me back. From Monday to Thursday I called daily to get an update on when the guitar would be ready and each time I got a different person and had to explain the situation to each of them and each time I was told I'd get a call back with a date it would be complete. On Thursday afternoon, I went into the store and asked for my sons guitar back as it still had not been repaired. I then drove directly to Axes Music in Mokena where the owner, Bill greeted me as I walked through the door. He inspected the guitar, took it in back and within 10 mins, completed the adjustment. He also commented on the "odd" restring job that was done at House of Music. I gave two stars instead of one because everyone I talked to at House Of Music was considerate, it was the last persons suggestion that I just come and get the guitar as he admittedly had no idea when it would get repaired after texting with a "manager" about it.

I inquired about if they had any old paper money for sale. Ernie went above and beyond the call of duty. The next day, when I got to the store, I was greeted by two polite and punctual gentlemen. They informed me that Ernie would be arriving shortly. Sure enough, a half hour later, Ernie arrived with a big stack of paper money. I was greatly impressed! I thought that there would only be a banknote or two. I ended up buying several banknotes to add to my collection and to trade with my friends for National Currency (That's what I specialize in and collect). Ernie was also very polite, fun to talk with and knowledgeable about paper money and coins. Ernie also let me leave with his industry insights and knowledge. Thanks to Ernie, I got a new dealer to go to for old paper money! I also wanted to sell some silver coins. However, due to the market conditions, Ernie passed on the coins. This is totally understandable. I would highly recommend these fair, ethical and honest people to do business with!
