Basically it is a cosy hotel with a stylish gastro type pub element downstairs. The interior is very much old world styling with stripped wood floors and creaky stair cases. I prefer a bit more character, or better yet a service…read moreapartment or flat rental... with a friend or two they are often the same price, if not cheaper, than a typical hotel. Not being a huge football fan (shoot me, I know), I'm not sure I'm as enamoured with this hotel as most. That said, it's definitely not a bad place to stay if in the area. For a typical hotel this place really does tick most of my boxes... the aircon in the rooms works a treat, the black out curtains actually block out all of the exeternal light, there is a small fridge in the room for your own drinks and snacks, and the rooms themselves are spacious... complete with a desk and extra chairs. Even not being a football fan, I must admit that the view into the stadium from the onsite restaurant is quite cool... I believe some rooms have a view as well, so obviously this can be a huge plus. The breakfast here was on par with what you would expect, but extra props for the eager willingness to make eggs however you wanted them. I can't speak to the dinners as I didn't have the chance to try them. The only odd negative can be the sheer size of the hotel as it wraps around the pitch... my particular room was hilariously far away from the entrance which proved a bit of an annoyance when after a long day my keycard no longer functioned... it was nearly soul destroying knowing my bed was just there on the other side of the door with no way for me to get to it. Based on my disclaimer I'm going with four stars personally, as I certainly wouldn't be upset staying here again, but if you're a football fan or if you generally prefer hotels such as the DoubleTree Hilton then I doubt you'll find much fault.

First of all the layout inside is unusual and wonderful. Large tables and lounge chairs make this comfortable for coffee meetings and / or afternoon drinks for business whilst maintaining a great pub bar, not an easy trick to pull off. The food is also outstanding, definitely better than you'd expect and certainly restaurant standard +. Thats not all the wine list is good too, they offer much more than the standard cheap Australian screw tops usually found in English pubs. But this pub is also a hotel and I stayed in room 5 which was warm, clean and had a great rain shower. The bed was comfortable too and my only gripe would be that the wardrobe was tiny and my view out of the window was grim. But this is a lovely English pub and it deserves a look from anyone able to visit.

This is my second visit to the hotel, and I splurge this time on a room called the room with a view. An amazing patio of more than 500 ft.² greet to you as you walk into the room outside floor ceiling windows and doors. The room is super tech savvy with almost all functions controlled from a panel on the wall next to the desk. This includes automated lowering and raising of blinds for the floor ceiling windows, as well as closing and opening full length draperies for the same. The bathroom is super spacious with double sink vanities in a large walk-in shower. This would be a wonderful room for anyone to celebrate the holidays in. It's equipped with a super comfy king size bed, and down comforter. There's also two couches in the room, facing the large picture windows and a small round table with two chairs for indoor dining. But the patio is unreal and includes a larger outdoor dining table for four and two large chase lounges. What makes this room so spectacular is the views of Saint Mary's church and the whole of Oxford University. Aspires of Oxford are magical and at night it's absolutely spectacular. Everything about this hotel is five star from the service the moment you check in until you check out. Room service is fast and efficient as is maid service in the mornings. Included with the room is a fully stocked mini bar and wine refrigerator. that's updated daily. You're also given a large platter of super fresh fruit, that is also refreshed daily. There's a hot pot for making tea and a really nice coffee pod machine that makes espresso. The wall opposite the bed sports a large flat panel TV. Location of the old bank hotel is prime real estate in the center of high Street in the middle of shops, pubs and restaurants. Cross the street and you are immediately on the grounds of Oxford University a wonderful place for exploring. Can't say enough about this hotel, the physical aspects, the service, and the location. I will always choose this place when I'm in Oxford.

It had tea making facilities with fresh milk in the fridge, along with bottled still and sparkling water. The room also had really cosy arm chairs, which were where i spent most of my time doing work! :( The bathroom was spotless every morning with Molton Brown toiletries. The only downside was that the tv didnt have freeview. The restaurant is incredible! We had dinner there one night. Although slightly expensive, the food was amazing to more than make up for it. I had haloumi with med veg for starter which was covered in soy sauce, and was divine! The main was sea bass with crushed potatoes. They were lovely, but i couldnt work out why they were purple? Breakfast was continental with fry up options available. I was just in love with their white granary toast! The woman who would serve us every morning was lovely and by day 3 knew my order by heart and would bring them over without me asking. It was simple, but a very personal touch. Definitely would go again if i was ever in the area!
