I did a prenatal breastfeeding appointment with her prior to giving birth and she was so helpful with giving tips and guidance on what to expect, it definitely made breastfeeding seem way less overwhelming and helped me ease into breastfeeding right after delivery. Shaina's birth class is worth every penny! My husband who is a skeptic of all these parenting courses was so engaged and said he learned so much. We really appreciated her focus on teaching you how to read the contractions and baby heart monitor and how you partner can prep you for the waves. She the perfect balance of teaching you how to advocate for yourself and ask questions while allowing the hospital to weigh in with their expertise so it's a partnership and not an adversarial relationship. Super thorough while engaging. I literally only pushed for 20 min because of everything I learned with Shaina and then my baby was here! Absolutely love her as a lactation consultant too. I am so happy that I found Shaina! Like many women, my journey started off a little shaky. I gave birth at a huge hospital and there were too many mothers/ babies and not enough consultants to really help with the process. I was told that my baby wasn't latching and to just go with formula to get him fed. So I fed him formula/ exclusively pumped. I was nervous because I thought our window for nursing was over but it turned out I just needed a little more help with techniques. My baby is 2 months old tomorrow and Shaina came in this morning to save us from ourselves lol! As soon as Shaina told me how to hold him he deeply latched and fed RIGHT AWAY! I was shocked and confused as to how easy it seemed to be. She also helped with the pumping component. I was using the wrong sized flanges and they were causing me a LOT of pain and clogged ducts. She measured me and immediately the pain from pumping went away. I'm so thrilled that I don't have to go through this journey without having all of my many questions answered. Shaina was an incredible IBCLC, and my breastfeeding experience would not have been nearly as successful without her help. She came over for a consultation the day after we got home from the hospital - I had an unplanned c-section and was not in great shape. Shaina has been an amazing lactation consultant for me! I am a first time mom and breastfeeding was an emotional and physical struggle for me. Shaina was immediately responsive when I reached out, and came over for a home visit right away. She helped me gain confidence with breastfeeding and assured me that my issues were normal. She listened to my complaints through tears and was incredibly kind. My baby had low blood sugar when she was born so she was introduced to the bottle and formula in the hospital and as a result did not know how to breastfeed. I was a new mom looking for a lactation consultant when I came across Shaina on Yelp. I was trying to breastfeed and was experiencing some challenges. I reached out to Shaina via Instagram and she was very responsive. We had a free 30-minute consultation before I went ahead and booked a session with her. I appreciated how flexible she was too. Immediately, I felt comfortable with Shaina during our virtual session (because of COVID). Her background as an L&D nurse was also really helpful. She provided great feedback and concrete tips for breastfeeding, especially since we were supplementing with formula because our baby was at risk for jaundice. Our session was about 90 minutes and for 2 weeks after, Shaina continued to check in with me via email. She can also provide a superbill to submit to your insurance! I can't say enough positive things about Shaina. She came into my home days after giving birth to my daughter and the second she walked in I was in tears. I had such a hard time latching my daughter and was so overwhelmed. Shaina helped assure my husband and I that this is something that we could do. She came to our home a few times and made sure our daughter was eating enough and teaching us the proper ways to feed, burp, you name it she helped. At the end of the day, I ended up exclusively pumping, but Shaina helped me create a pumping plan that was realistic. She was ALWAYS there for me whenever I texted her or any any questions big or small. And when it was time for me to stop pumping, she also helped me create a custom weaning plan that was a long and slow (the way I wanted) game plan. We were originally going to do the 3-hour birthing class with Shaina, but...the baby came 5 weeks early, 2 days before our class lol. Shaina was super accommodating-- we changed the birthing class into a newborn/lactation consult instead. Shaina drove the 50 min to our house at a time when we were fresh out of the hospital with a premie. We were frazzled newborn parents with little sleep and little idea how to take care of this tiny fragile human being! I am SO glad Shaina came when she did. What we needed most at that time was just a calm, steady, confident, nurturing presence, and she was all that-- and more. She coached me on how to hold the baby while breastfeeding, how to hold him while bottle-feeding and burping, all the things that I had seen on YouTube/IG videos, but trust me, it is just WAY different having an expert sit next to you guiding you through all the motions with your actual baby. We needed her so much! I was relying more on bottle-feeding by that point because I had lost confidence in breastfeeding, but Shaina gave me that boost of confidence and inspiration I needed to practice it more. It'll take a bit more practice, but I'm already holding him better, and I can tell by the way the baby latches well. Shaina also taught us how to swaddle, how to start developing a healthy sleep cycle, and answered every question we had. I really like that I can text her after the consult with any questions/challenges/insecurities that pop up, and she answers in a detailed, caring, assuring way.
