I don't know where to begin except stating Sharon is the best. My husband and I both enjoyed her Lamaze Class. We are first time parents and had so many questions about the birthing process. At one point, I had even considered hiring a doula! But guess what... after attending Sharon's Lamaze class, my husband became more comfortable and stepped up to be my birthing partner! We recently took a Childbirth Prep class with Sharon at the Mother's Haven. The all day class (10am - 5pm) was so informative. Sharon is outgoing, personable, very knowledgeable, and energetic. All of those qualities mixed together and you have a fantastic instructor. Time went by so fast. From the moment we first spoke, I could tell how knowledgeable and serious she was about providing her clients with as many helpful tools and up-to- date educational information for a successful, in control birth as possible. I still remember our first class with Sharon. She asked what does birth make you think of, and I responded pain. I realized that I knew very little about birth before taking Sharon's birthing class. Sharon is amazing. Patient, wise, experienced, calming, supportive, and genuine. She is all one could ask for. We lucked into her class before our first birth and ended up having a one on one class due to low turnout. My wife had some concerns around childbirth and so wanted to deliver as 'naturally' and intervention free as possible. Sharon educated us extensively around all aspects of the process and encouraged her to pursue her vision for her birth, while at the same time leaving room for other options and outcomes. Thankfully my wife did not experience any complications, labored mostly at home, and delivered within an hour of arrival to the hospital. After delivery we had a very poor experience with the hospital lactation consultant, and reached out to Sharon for additional support, as she is a lactation consultant as well. Had she been with us from the start it likely would have turned out differently. Due to the time that elapsed, our kids tongue tie, and bad information from the other folks we worked with exclusive breastfeeding wasn't in the cards. Sharon was supportive, non-shaming, and did all she could to validate and help us through the process. Sharon is a gem and I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone. My husband found Sharon and I'm so thankful he did! I was told with my first born that I'm not a candidate for any kind of spinal injections which would mean fully under anesthesia or all natural birth. Our society makes us so scared to give birth naturally. My husband Anthony and I decided to sign up for Sharon's Lamaze class and we genuinely really enjoyed the class and learned so much!!! It is worth it to make time for the zoom classes + 1 in person class because you get so much information in each class - it is truly a great all around informative class about pregnancy, birth process/techniques, and newborn care. We truly felt that she included great videos, assignments, podcasts, and other content/articles that were not only super informative but also showed all sides/ all pros and cons of certain labor preferences to the point where we were easily able to make our own unique birth preference list and feel like we are as prepared as possible for the big day. We are so glad we went with Sharon for our Lamaze classes because we felt that a lot of other instructors we found were very one sided in their approach or mainly encouraged one point of view but her class combined a medical views/hospital info + information on what happens before during and after labor + emotional/mental side of everything + non medical techniques - and more - which was a great balance of everything. The zoom classes were great because we were able to tie in everything we read + saw in videos/articles/etc with her lectures which helped us retain everything. We felt that we learned so much from the in person class as well - doing the techniques over zoom while watching videos was good but in person definitely helped us dial everything in and make sure we were doing everything correctly. It was also so nice to connect with Sharon and other couples in person. The comfort and relaxation techniques have been really helpful and we were continuously using the different massages which make a huge difference especially with back pain during pregnancy. We found ourselves using the same techniques we learned in Sharon's class during labor/contractions and it made a HUGE difference. We also brought the book from this class and handouts with us to the hospital which were super helpful and informative. Without her class we wouldn't have been able to make our birth preference list for the hospital as specific as it was and we would have felt as if we were going in blind so we were truly grateful for the class that focused on birth preference lists as well. In addition.. sharon includes tons of resources (videos, articles, etc) that you can refer to other than the ones she goes over in class (she provides extra helpful links about all of the above) and we found ourselves watching and reading a bunch of them. My husband and I took Sharon's newborn/infant care class before the arrival of our first child and it was the single most helpful thing we did to prepare. We both left feeling empowered and full of tips and tricks to tackle the first stages of parenthood with confidence. Having our first baby in 2020 has been challenging in many ways, so it was especially helpful for my husband and I to have a virtual one-on-one session with Sharon leading up to our birth. I wanted to get some key insights into coping techniques, partner support, and breastfeeding and Sharon went above and beyond in providing us with education, support, and encouragement. She was beyond prepared for our session and even dropped off some materials on my doorstep to get a head start on reading when the mail may have taken too long. Sharon was a LIFESAVER for my husband and I with the birth of our son this past June! We had originally signed up to take her baby care basics class in-person, and were planning to do the remainder of our classes through our hospital. However, once COVID hit, all our hospital classes were cancelled a month before our due date and as first-time parents we were panicking over how we would get the information we needed to help us feel prepared. Sharon saved the day! I contacted her and she graciously offered to do all of our classes with us via Zoom (breastfeeding, baby care basics, and labor preparation). She quickly adapted her in-person format for an online format, which I'm sure was a ton of work for her. We even ended up getting private Zoom classes with her, and she was flexible to work around our unconventional work schedules. The online classes were fantastic and made us feel so supported and prepared! Not only did she step up in a big way, she was also incredibly supportive throughout my whole pregnancy. She would frequently email me resources that she thought I would find helpful, so I felt like I had SO much great information at my fingertips. She was also calm and caring, and really checked-in with how we were doing. She made me feel a lot calmer about giving birth during this pandemic. We loved Sharon so much that we also hired her as a lactation consultant after our son was born and he had trouble latching. She came to our home (masked and in gloves, with lots of safety protocols) and helped me have success breastfeeding him. It made a WORLD of difference - before Sharon we were having to supplement with formula and breastfeeding hurt a lot. After the consultation with her we've had no issues breastfeeding! Sharon was wonderful! This is my first pregnancy, and I have been extremely anxious about the labor and delivery process. I decided to take the course provided by Kaiser on labor and delivery. Sharon was instructing the course and did an amazing job at thoroughly explaining the process. I reached out to her to take a private labor and delivery course with my partner. It was a 3 hour, detailed course. Sharon asked before hand what my partner and I wanted to focus on. I let her know exactly what I was anxious about and what I wanted more information on. The entire class was exactly tailored around that. It was very informative and helpful. I was debating on getting a doula, but this class helped me feel better about the labor and delivery process. So happy we found Sharon at the time we did. We are first time parents and with my wife's condition we only had 2 options; Natural birth or General Anesthesia Cesarían. With those two options given to us we opted for going the Natural route but we'll knowing it wasn't promised. We let Sharon know our situation before going in and even before going in she offered us great information to check out. We decided to opt for the 2 day class and it really helped and made us feel more confident going into this. She also sent us information after our classes were over. I'm so grateful for Sharon's instruction recently in our private class! My partner and I have been a bit last minute and this worked great with our schedule being able to book a private class with her. Like some of the other reviews said, she worked with us on what topics we needed covered and we were able to combine two classes in a one day intensive. The time flew by and it didn't feel too long or overwhelming at all. I love that she's worked many years in a hospital setting, but she is also very up to date on what are the best practices NOW and has helpful information for natural and birth center births as well. I simply cannot say enough positive things about Sharon's childbirth education and newborn care class. My husband and I were looking for a child birth class in our area due to not having one available through our insurance, and Sharon was available with a private class, flexible hours, and worked with our schedule to fit all of our needs. Her rate is also extremely reasonable, which was a huge plus. Though, after taking the class, we would have gladly paid a higher price, it was well worth it. As a first-time mom with close to zero baby experience, I was a little nervous about the overwhelming amount of information that would be covered in a class. But Sharon was great! My fiancé and I took Sharon's Birth & Delivery class to help us prepare for our little one being born in August. She was such a great help, very open, and never made you feel dumb for not knowing something or asking questions! There was lots of information and packets given so that you can make choices before giving birth and are able to go back and refer to your packet even after classes. My husband has a super hectic schedule that made it very hard for us to schedule a traditional class. Working with Sharon was perfect for our busy schedule. We were able to pick which days, how many hours each day, etc. and jam all the classes within the 2 weeks prior to our due date. In addition, after we began our classes, we found out we were going to have a scheduled C-section. Sharon was incredibly flexible in tailoring the remaining classes to exactly what we needed. And she welcomed my mom into her home to sit through some of the classes with my husband and I. She answered all our questions, sent us videos and articles she thought we would find helpful, and even had us role play with the dummy babies (not sure if that's the appropriate name for them). Sharon was approachable and easy to talk to about all sorts of topics. She made sure to not only address the technical aspects of the procedures but also the potential emotional consequences. In addition, she alerted us to some of the issues we might run into within the hospital setting as they related to our birth wishes, and guided us on how to address them with the hospital staff. Lastly, Sharon made sure to check in with us even after our daughter was born, and forwarded me breastfeeding support info when I mentioned I was struggling with it. Due to my husband's crazy work schedule we had to find a private birth class. Sharon worked around our schedule even with last minute issues, she prepared us beautifully for the birth of our son, she gave us a book that was perfect and was a fresh reminder of the classes and she received us with an amazing table full of snacks and awesome beverages each time ! Her Dogs would sit at our feet making us feel like we are part of the family. She even Came to my home to help me with breast feeding, as I had a very hard time the first days since the lactate consultant of the hospital told me I was doing it correctly and which wasn't the case. 1h with Sharon and breast feeding went from torture to an enjoyable bonding time. The positions she showed us were very helpful for my early labor process and because of the education she gave us we were prepared when I decided to get the epidural. As an uncle but never a father, I'd heard stories of getting ready for a baby but had no idea about the specifics. Sharon was very calm and patient and thorough in walking us through the steps of getting ready for and going through delivery, and it was very reassuring to know we were dealing with a nurse with years of experience. When we had to induce early without a doula as planned, it was Sharon's advice that gave us the confidence to get through it on our own - and we ended up using several specific techniques to get through contractions and through a smooth delivery.
