You know that one restaurant that is calling out your name after cross researching Yelp, Tripadvisor, Google and top restaurant lists while you're on vacation? Alright, Presidio wasn't calling out my name; it was the absolutely obvious choice when visiting Mazatlan while on a cruise last week. The location is very easily accessible from the cruise port (easy 20 minute walk) and right near the middle of town as well as the Malecon (beach boardwalk). The place itself is gorgeous and most everyone in our party commented that they felt like they were inside the Jungle Ride at Disneyland. A lush tropical interior courtyard with a lovely fountain, a hint of rustic flavor and decor of a bygone era complete with aged/damaged walls which were there either purposely as planned decor or as a sign of age and weathering. Either way, these walls as well as arches were lovely. And you'd never expect an interior courtyard like this from walking by outside. Oh, and the long old bar located at the back of the courtyard screams of yesteryear probably lined with old friends, old stories and lots and lots of margaritas, mezcal cocktails and probably quite a few banditos. Service is friendly and laid back; as is typical of non-U.S. countries, it does take a bit to order and get your food and drinks but when you're in that 'Hidden Courtyard', it doesn't really seem to matter. The margarita tradicionals are fantastic if a bit small for a drunk like me. I also tried one of the mezcal drinks and it was fantastic. My 16 year old daughter ordered the Pan Roasted Salmon for $419MX or $23 and she said it was the best she'd ever had. The creamy mixed pepper sauce with smoked chipotle was outta sight good. I kept sliding my fork through that stuff when she was done. My 13 year old son ordered the Esquites and Tuetanos ($324MX or $17USD - Regional corn cooked in butter and epazole her dried pepper aoili, cotija cheese, sour cream, cilantro with two huge bones filled with juicy bone marrow with roasted garlic. This was really great and one of our friends ordered it as well and enjoyed it. My wife ordered the Carnitas for $399MX ($22USD) with the optional Smoked Cheese for an additional $49MX ($2.70USD)...that's kind of funny...just throw it in there, guys! This dish was delicious. I ordered the Smoked Pork Shank ($489MX - $26.75USD) which is smoked for 12 hours with an anaheim pepper au gratin with smoked cheese (no extra charge!) with a roasted cambray and port demi glace. This was absolutely sensational and massive. Wow, this thing could very easily feed two people (or three if you order some apps). The smokey flavor was persistent through every bite and the meat fell off the bone. Really an amazing dish that I wish I could have eaten more of! We shared the Yellowfin Sliced Tuna ($289MX - $15USD) with a soy vinaigrette with ginger, sesame oil, macha sauce, wakame and kombu seaweed salad, cucumber and red onion. Even though this was definitely not a Mexican dish, it was absolutely fantastic. My mother-in-law ordered the Roasted Pear Salad ($254MX - $14USD) and very much enjoyed it. It looked great! Our friends ordered the Seabass Ceviche ($299MX - $16USD) and generously offered us several bites and it was fantastic as well. They also ordered the guac which was sensational. Overall, we all were so pleased with this place and continued to talk about it throughout the rest of the cruise and considered it one of the highlights of the entire trip. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
We love Presidio, and had planned to have a wonderful romantic Thanksgiving dinner there. We had no idea that everyone else had the same plan. It's always been quiet and lovely. But this time it was packed, and even with a reservation we were stuck in a corner outside the courtyard. There were many families with screaming babies and children, and the atmosphere was ruined. Fortunately the food was still excellent. I had a wonderful Tamarindo Margarita, and husband had an oatmeal stout called 67 Ninjas, made in Mazatlan! We had a delicious salad with pears, and the usual fabulous pork shank. So go there, just not on a holiday!
I was here 8/28/24 during a Carnival excursion that was Mazatlan Hilltops and lunch at El Presidio. It cost around $50pp which was not horrible. While dining here, we had tequila tastings and taco lunch. The tacos were tasty but not like extraordinarily. The Pina Colada was also nice. Located on a farm, dating back in 1876, this old building of the restaurant was rescued to house a beautiful venue, surrounded by a jungle-like natural environment with walls that proudly show its age. Chef Diego Becerra, the owner of the restaurant and master of the kitchen, personally checks the dishes to the last detail, to ensure it's to guests' satisfaction. If I was in the area I would come back.
Great ambiance, especially for lunch. Charming, shaded, lovely outdoor patio space. You wouldn't know this place was like this inside if you just walked by the building. The meal started with complimentary bread with a novel and delicious eggplant and blue cheese dip. Pork shank was juicy and tender. Sea bass ceviche was fresh and excellent. Mango ice cream was a great finish.
Beautiful Venue...Very Pricy for what we received. The Open Air Restaurant was very impressive when we walked in... We sat at the bar area, got there pretty early, and decided to stay for dinner. I was so disappointed with their cuisine. I couldn't even have a second bite of the coliflor appetizer... Who in the world thinks it is good to add a massive load of mesquite or smoked BBQ SAUCE ON TOP OF IT!!! (See picture) it was so disgusting that after the first bite, I could NOT stop burping. It was gross! All the food. I wanted it to be special, but it just wasn't; even the fish had some BBQ sauce or whatever it was. Okay, now it didn't stop with the food... Smokers smoking in the non-smoking area and to make it more unsettling was the word that they were the owners and friends of the owners. The owner and his friends are privileged to do whatever the F they want--very little respect and disregard for clients. I will no longer refer this to my friends in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Mazatlán or recommend it to people. I know the high-end and powerful, influential people in Mexico and will let them know too! The drinks were good! We were very disappointed to see what has become of this once culinary mecca.
Came here in search of some Mexican seafood ! This is one of the "fancier" places in Mazatlan but still very reasonable in price . Cool upper scale vibe , excellent service and lists of choices ! I selected the Fish ( I believe it was Snapper ) and it was amazing Z throw in the other sides and nice white wine and I was happy !! You certainly need to visit if you carve great seafood
Such a great hidden restaurant. You enter in and the restaurant opens up to a beautiful courtyard with amazing trees and plants. You feel like you are in a jungle. The service and good was absolutely amazing and delicious. Everyone LOVED their food. We arrived early and we were able to get a seat. I hear it is good to try and get reservations.
Like being in Casablanca. A magical elegant experience with excellent food and fantastic service. Prices are low for the great quality and unmatched ambiance. Spent $120 on 3 courses, wine and an aperitif for 2. This dinner would easily cost you $350- $400 in the states. You will tell your friends about this place.
This restaurant came highly recommend at the resort we were staying at. Its located in Plaza Macado area in an old decaying building that dates back 150 years. The house was built in 1876 and was Owned by Genaro Garcia until 1980 when the last family member left and then it sat empty until one of the granddaughters began to restore the home in 2010. It's very relaxing in the Garden Patio and is certainly of the best ambience in Mazatlan. The food was very good but the wait staff lack the skills for a higher end restaurant like this. We were perfecty fine with it as we don't particularly like being fawned over, but it would have been a better experience if the staff understood the preparation of the dishes more and could have answered our questions. Other than not high end service it was a cool experience. If your in Mazatlan the cool factor alone is enough reason to try it. Just be patient with the inexperience of the staff.
My friend and I came here while we were on a port day with royal Caribbean. This place was suggested from our taxi driver for the day. What a recommendation! It was in old Mazatlán away from the tourists and crowds. There were maybe three other parties while we were there. This place reminds me of Tarzan or jungle book. Presidio means fort, we learned which was exactly what it was used for when it was built. Now it's a restaurant/bar with a wonderful atmosphere. We wanted a quick bite to eat before we headed back to the ship. I ordered the tuna tostada. Serve with a generous helping of tuna and two tostadas. Delicious, fresh and surprisingly filling. My friend go the shrimp aguachiles. She loves spicy so this was a great pick for her. And a large portion as well! We had chips to start and they served chips with their unique dipping sauce that consisted of peanuts, roasted tomatoes and spices. I wish we were here longer to try some of the other dishes. It was a fun adventure and I highly recommend coming here ! read more

Beautiful spot for drinks and food. It is in a hidden patio courtyard. It was so refreshing on a hot day to find this lovely hideaway in Mazatlan.The service was quick and solicitous. Guava Margarita was delicious. read more

We were looking for a good place to have seafood in Mazatlan and found this amazing place on YELP. It was a 20 minute walk from the cruise port, but well worth it! We went in around 1:30pm on a Monday and found it pretty empty. At first we wondered why such a highly rated place would be empty, but shortly after realized we found a gem of a restaurant. Beautiful old building with a lot of character. Great service! Food and drinks were amazing! A place to definitely visit again next time we are in Mazatlan! read more

Enchanting! Beautiful piece of History for those that love Architecture. I was looking forward to eating here and was slightly disappointed by the food. The meal did start with complimentary tostadas and an eggplant dip. We had the crab claws for starters which were ok, I could taste the soy sauce which took from the flavor. We also had the pork carnitas which were actually very tasty and were a good serving for 3, came w/handmade tortillas. Shrimp scampi was probably the best of the 3 dishes we had. Drinks were delicious, service and music were great, overall it was all very good. I would return for drinks and still recommend just for the experience and ambiance. read more

Went for an early dinner. The food was good but not worth the prices. We had to send our food back because our steaks were cooked wrong. The service was horrible we had to ask for our check three times. The building is historical with a nice ambiance that got ruined by paying $52 pesos for a canned coke. read more

Ok wow. We were floored by the incredible ambiance and service of this beautiful place. First of all, the food was to die for, would go back just for every single thing we ordered. Our server was incredibly kind and described the food exactly as it was (especially the Mole and chocolate hazelnut cake). The live music was soothing with a man with the voice of an Angel carved from marble and we felt like we were in a classy version of Indians jones the whole night needless to say this is a must if visiting Mazátlan!!! Unbelievably good. Stopped in mazatlan on a cruise and really did not do much others that El Faro, walk around the historic old section and this restaurant You have to eat here!!!! read more

beautiful atmosphere great cocktails and drinks at the bar in the back the appetizers were yummy and the main dishes were good, not great. very nice service if you sit under the trees, there are birds sitting in the branches above you! Several people at the table were 'blessed' read more
