Other than the two musical mega stores in Broward County, this one actually impressed me by the…read moreselection of beautiful acoustic guitars and the immediate contact with a store associate upon entry who advised me of the ultra strict "No Touch Before You Ask" policy. But I completely understood since the guitars are hanging on small hooks and could easily fall out of a customer's hands. The staff took me on a short tour of the acoustic guitars with brief guidance of their pricing, sound and quality. The guitar pricing ranged $400 to several thousand depending on the brand, appearance and structural integrity. Penny Lane offers lifetime warranties on select guitars and provide in-house repairs. Aside from musical string instrument sales they offer lessons from professional instructors but its not cheap. The one hour private lesson is $180.00 or a discounted four sessions of lessons for $550.00. I have experience with the electric rock n' roll guitars from the 1980s but thought it would be a change of scenery to purchase an acoustic guitar and learn the chords the right way. One major thing that was not clearly explained to us upfront was the way the "free instrument" program actually works. The school presents the instrument as "free," but in reality, a loan/financing agreement is taken under the customer's name for 36 months. While they do return monthly payments in cash, that only continues if you stay enrolled and complete the full 36-month term. If you leave early for any reason, you are still responsible for the remaining loan balance. What was even more disappointing was discovering later that the instruments themselves appeared to be heavily overpriced. After checking the same models online and in local music stores, I found brand-new instruments available at much lower prices -- in some cases close to 80% cheaper than what we were effectively paying through the financing program. We only realized the true cost when we had to move and sell the instruments. The resale value was nowhere close to the financed amount, which resulted in a major financial loss. I wish the school had been more transparent about the financing structure, the long-term commitment, and the actual market value of the instruments. Families should have the freedom to buy instruments directly from the market at fair prices instead of being locked into expensive financing arrangements. Please do your research carefully, compare instrument prices independently, and fully understand the financing terms before signing anything.

He had a negative experience with another teacher and we had to switch to Ms. Jacqueline. The school has a great program. However, the Music Director, Al Ruiz, is a real jerk. In the first 6 weeks of the program, he will try to scam you into running your credit to finance and sign a contract for a keyboard that cost thousands for a beginner student. There was a recent minor incident  that happen with my son and when I reached out to him for an explanation, he was rude, disrespectful, and condescending. As a parent who pays a tuition of almost $200 a month, I was told, "I'm busy, and I don't have time for you". He refused to take accountability for a situation that was clearly his mistake. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Do yourself a favor, and spend your money at a music school where everyone is treated with respect.
