Nice staff, pretty clean, there's just no hot water. Even when you pay extra for hot water wash you won't get it. Not even the bathroom has hot water for hand washing. Also: the minimum for a wash card is $10 (if paying by card) and adding value to the card can only be done in $10 minimum increments, which also sucks. read more

This laundromat is gone to HELL. The dryer don't work and the washers smell like milder. They not being wiped down like when the black ladies worked there. I had to stop in today since our laundry machine is broken and Preston Suds is a good location. The small washers run maybe $7 a load and the XL washers are about $10-12 depending on what heat and soil level. The dryers run from maybe 25 to 45 cents for 5 mins. They don't take quarters so be aware you'll have to get a laundry card and load it up, but it's pretty self explanatory. Also bring your own detergent and stuff, they may have some available but I'm not sure. I am a laundromat newb so I had to ask the staff how to work the computer and they were super helpful. The facility is super clean and I went on a Tuesday from 2-5 (we had a LOT of laundry to do) and it got busier towards the evening but still had plenty open machines. If we need to use a laundromat again then I'll come back here. read more

I can't speak to the self-service aspect of the business but would recommend you save yourself the stress and guessing game of the wash and fold service. We've used them twice (second time was to give it another chance) and each time actually being able to use the service is unreliable. We've had to make multiple trips as several times there's been no attendant on duty to allow us to pick up our clothes, no one answers the phone or returned messages and the one time we called and got an answer - the attendant was no longer on site by the time we made it from our house to the business (and we left right after confirming someone was on site and told them we would be coming). Right now we are still waiting on someone to actually be there so we can pick up our clothes that we dropped off in our "give it a second chance" approach. In short, probably really handy for self-service but there are other places in town to choose for drop off wash and fold service. read more

Very clean facility with lovely helpful staff. Almost all machines are in good working order and those that are not are clearly marked. Washing machine for one extra large load (2.5 weeks of work clothes and daily gym clothes) was $9 and could have probably got more. My partner had a week's worth of gym clothes and work clothes washed for $7. Dryers are $0.28 per five minutes. Lots of carts for transferring clothes (in good condition). $$$ goes on a card which you use at the individual washers/dryers. Would highly recommend. read more

Only 2 sizes to choose from. Wascomat brand machines which do a good job washing but this place charges almost $6 a load (hot w/ xtra rinse). Outrageous!! National average is 2.50 - 3.50. Dryers are inefficient and take forever at .25c for 5 minutes. They have a tendency to error-out so keep an eye on them. The clock keeps ticking when they are idle. They do have automatic doors, albeit slow to open. The garbage outside was piled sky high and there is a mexican food truck tucked in to the already too small parking lot. Attendant is pleasant. I spent $23 for three loads and left with towels and sheets still damp after 35 minutes in dryer. I will NEVER return to this joke. read more

This was an all-around awful experience; I will never be back. Read on for details! Or, if you're in a hurry: RUDE staff, clothes not dried properly, things folded inside-out. Move on. I'll start with the one positive: best hours in town. A lot of Charlottesville businesses are closed on Sundays. Preston Suds is open 7am-10pm every day, so it doesn't get much better than that. Next, the neutral: I cannot comment on the self-done laundry (cost, machine quality, ect) as I only use the wash-and-fold service. The terrible: From the moment I walked in I did not feel welcome. When I couldn't understand the accent of one worker (not foreign), she repeated her statement louder and sharper, looking more and more annoyed. When I asked if they folded shirts and pants OR put them on hangers, she answered: "Of course we do! We're professionals!" I re-explained that I only asked because I preferred my things folded. When I came back in later that evening to ask how long it would take (they had neglected to give me a pick-up date), she said that my things were done, but "They were NASTY" and I should have warned her. All that was in one of the bags was the blanket from my dog's crate -- maybe a little doggie-smelling and hairy, but nothing more. I paid ($29 for two very full bags) and got out of there. When I got home to unpack, I discovered that nobody should be paying this lady to fold clothes, period. Two of my sweaters were folded inside-out. My bras were crushed at the bottom of the bag. A pair of jeans and a heavier sweater were still clearly damp to the touch, and hadn't been given the amount of time to dry that they needed. The sports bras were not folded at all, and everything had been shoved back in the bag as it was folded with no care to stack things in size or categories, or even so that they would be less likely to move around and come unfolded during transport. If *I* can fold clothes better than you, you shouldn't be doing it professionally. Before this I have only used Sunshine Laundry on Greenbriar (right off of 29). I guess I just thought their service was typical. Compared to this place it is EXCEPTIONAL. Almost exactly the same price, with the same turnaround time, and your clothes will be folded neater than a fancy department store, and obviously they will be DRY and oh, you know, NOT INSIDE OUT. Everything is sorted logically: larger or bulky items at the bottom of the bag, working up to underthings on the top. Every shirt is folded to the same size so they stack neatly. And these ladies are SO nice. Their faces literally light up when they see you. Just stay away from Preston Suds, and treat yourself to the Sunshine ladies. I'm going to have to apologize profusely for going somewhere else after this experience! read more

Costs an unrefundable 50 cents for a laundry card, but there is an attendant to help one figure out how to work the machines. No paper towels to dry hands on in the bathroom, but hey..there is a bathroom! And it's clean. read more

I haven't been to a laundromat in YEEEEEARS and the ones I went to were seedy and dirty. Like clutch your pearls and stand in front of your machine until it's done.... Anyway, I had some fabric that was stored in my 90 year old grandmother's basement that I just didn't want to wash at home. Thought it'd be best not to take the years of dust and whatnot into my house. First things first.. I am not from the area so I almost drove past it. Keep an eye out for the low sign as the building is set back far from the street. The space was nice and bright when I walked in. After talking to the attendant, she guided me to the best size machine for my wash and where to load my detergent (like I said, it's been years. I wanted to do it right the first and only time). I would have preferred an actual chair to sit in while I waited, not a stool. I only sat on it for a moment then left and returned for my items. There was a sign for free wi-fi but I didn't stay long enough to see if it actually worked. Overall, the attendant was pleasant; the space was clean; the machines appeared new and in good working order; my clothes came out clean and fresh. No complaints and I will choose this laundromat if every I need to in the future. read more

My dryer broke, and I needed a laundromat for the first time in decades. Things have changed a lot since the last time I was in a laundromat (e.g., machines use cards instead of quarters), and the attendant at Preston Suds was very helpful. The facility was clean. My only recommendation would be to improve the seating. There were only a few wooden stools and plastic chairs. read more

Best, cleanest laundromat I've ever been to! The parking isn't too shabby and the laundry attendant is very helpful. She actually saved me $12 by taking the time to go over the weight and price of the washers and dryers. The prices aren't too bad and I love that you don't have to bring a roll of quarters because of their "wash card" system. It's pretty much a debit card for your laundry. I hate to write a poor review. The one woman that works there has always been kind to me (she wore her cute orange t-shirt today); the others have been indifferent, but she is pleasant. But the patrons have not been and this is not the 1st time. Today was pretty bad and I left before my clothes were done. I was bumped into twice, they took up all the folding stations (when not even folding), and took over my basket & folding area when I ran some clothes out to the car. The one woman was upset that I put my pocketbook in my basket ... but I hadn't noticed that she had taken over my basket. I apologized because that'a what I do, but I should not have. I just want to wash my clothes not be disrespected. What a horrible experience. read more

I know it's just a laundromat, but the lady who helped me was nice, plus the facility was clean and the prices were fair, so I thought I'd leave a positive review. It's a nice place. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that there aren't many comfortable places to sit while you wait (as compared to Sunshine Laundromat on Greenbrier Drive, which has a modest little cafe attached to the laundry facility where you can sit at a table and read while you wait). One little quirk about Preston Suds is that the machines don't accept coins or tokens - you pay $0.50 to load money onto a card, and then you swipe the card. To give you an idea, I put $5 in the dispenser and received a card with $4.50 on it, which covered my wash and dry cycles, and I still had a small balance left on my card (I used the smallest size washing machines they had). All in all, if you're looking for a laundromat, I'd recommend this place. read more

Wanted to give the wash and fold service a try but was so turned off by the rude service I collected my things and left. Unfortunately I cannot speak to the actual laundering as my visit was cut short. The prices seemed a little high which was not a deal breaker. The breaking point for me was when the lady inputting my information was constantly complaining about having too much work. She adamantly stated that she was leaving my things for the night shift because they needed something to do and she couldn't be bothered (not things to be telling new customers), which I said didn't bother me as I hadn't planned on picking anything up until the next day. She then took my basket of laundry looked at me and asked if I had animals (i guess there was cat hair on my comforter?) and then proceeded to drop my things on the floor and said "ugh I need gloves for this". At that point I had wasted almost 30 min of my lunch hour and did not feel comfortable leaving my belongings at this business. I asked the woman for my laundry and then after being ignored I retrieved my own things and left. I much prefer the self service machines at Bubbles. read more
