I only knew about Preston's because I used to work nearby his shop, and he was outside so often making friendly conversation. I bought a used leather bag recently, and I loved the overall look of it, but some of the leather pattern on the front had been scrubbed off and it had clearly not been conditioned or maintained in years, if ever. I talked to Preston about these concerns, and not only did he HAND PAINT the pattern back on, but he also deep conditioned the bag, masterfully covered up water stains on the side, and took off the strap where the stitching was weak and hand stitched it back on to a stronger area. This bag will likely last me decades now thanks to his hard work, and he only charged me my initial quote of $35 even though he ended up doing a lot more work than we initially talked about. Definitely leave this guy a top, his work is so valuable and downtown Chico is lucky to have him. read more

He was very nice when I brought in my shoes, even nicer when they were not ready on the day promised. I was understanding and said I'd come back the following week, which I did. When I returned wearing a mask because his door was closed due to the heat that day, his attitude was all, well, attitude. My shoes were ready, and they are super comfy now, but boy did he give me a piece of his mansplaining mind. Don't let the "accepts credit cards" thing on here fool you; it's cash only, and that's presumably why a Birk resole is 60 instead of the going 52. Who knows? I didn't mind and brought cash. He does decent work, but I won't be back, because no grownup has time for that nonsense. read more

Good place to get your shoes patched up and polished. First went there last year to get fasteners on a handy pair of sandals fixed. Recently I took some otherwise nice leather shoes that had been scuffed-to-gray in the front. For a nominal price he had them shiny and black like new. (Hey, when good shoes cost $60 or more it's worth paying a few bucks to refurbish/renew.) The owner's nice and knows his business, it's in everyone's interest to get the most out of their shoes and he's more than happy to help you out. read more

From the moment I walked in, he was kind, courteous and had a great attitude. I came in with a broken heel and wanted it repaired, in addition to getting them resoled with suede. He told me he could get them to me the following week because he was so swamped. Wanting them done the NEXT day, naturally I was a little disappointed; however, he said he could repair the heel by the following day and resole them at a later time! I was elated! I come in today to find that he not only fixed the heel but resoled the pair and painted them! I could not be more surprised and happy! He definitely went above and beyond to get my dance shoes done and let me get on the dance floor sooner! AMAZING experience I paid less than $50 for all of it! I brought in a pair of wedges that were starting to come apart (glue). And a pair of sandals that the sole was "quacking" (coming off at the toe). Preston was quick to diagnose the wedge issue(common for wedges to come unglued). He was funny, knowledgeable, and had my shoes fixed good as new. Preston is a great guy and can save your soul(s) if need be. He is very knowledgeable about his craft and also incredibly knowledgeable about Blues music and baseball even though he is a Dodger fan. He also sells shoe products and specialty insoles (i buy a pair every time i get new shoes as they help my back). I don't like to give bad reviews, but the more I think about this phone call with the owner really bothers me. He was the rudest man. I asked if my son could bring my favorite shoes and drop them off. Before I could get my full question out, he shut me up saying that I have to bring in the shoes. I informed him that I don't leave the house...he interrupted me again, he actually said, "Come on lady. Everybody gets out of the house to go get groceries." I informed him that I haven't been outside my home since January of this year. Due to an illness that started 9 years ago, I have been getting in home help. His reply floors me...he said, and I quote, 'Sorry lady find someone else'. Then hung up on me. The ONLY PROBLEM WITH MY SHOES IS they need a NEW INSOLE, the old one is sticky. I also wanted to have him BUFF the SCUFF MARKS on the outside. These are my favorite shoes and I thought with the weather being so nice that I could get outside, go for a short walk...just enjoy the weather. Thanks Preston's Shoe Repair!
