The first time I came to Pretty Green Terrariums for a workshop is January 2023. The owners are so nice, knowledgeable, and helpful with helping create your terrarium or general questions about plant care. My husband and I returned last week for a second terrarium workshop because we love our first one so much. I was so proud to let the owners know that it is still thriving after 2 years. We attended a couples workshop here and had an absolute blast. The instructors are patient, knowledgeable, and kind, and there is so much you can do to customize your terrarium. It's very reasonably priced and such a fun activity. Careful though, you may want to purchase another plant (or 12!) to take home with you. read more

Heartbreakingly disappointed in this place. I went in around a month ago and had a nice conversation with the man working there. I bought an airplant and a venus flytrap. We had an extensive conversation about my last flytrap and how it turned black and died. He showed me their care sheet and promised me that I could get in touch with any issues. Days later despite following the instructions including buying distilled water to use, putting it in a dish and keeping water in the dish, it turned black. I emailed the store hoping to get advice on how to fix it, and they ignored my emails. I sent them a message on January 14th on Instgram, and they ignored my message. So my plant went into the garbage and so did my money. Really, REALLY disappointing. read more

My husband and I signed up for a "make-your-own" terrarium workshop at Pretty Green Terrariums. A colleague from work joined us and we had such a fun time; the two hours flew by. Holden (the instructor) was the perfect leader for this endeavor--giving helpful (and entertaining) instructions for creating and caring for the new addition to the home. Thank you to pretty green terrariums for an amazing birthday date night. We booked our class online easily and arrived to a private terrarium building class. The owners were warm and very knowledgeable about plants and creating terrariums for us as beginners. The class took about 2 hours. It is BYOB and we brought some beers to enjoy during the class. Here is our final product in all of her glory. This is a must do activity for any plant lovers looking for a date night in Philly! I walked past this business on the Street Level in the Fashion District (Formerly Gallery Mall) by 9th and Market. The plants and Terrariums caught my eye. I returned to the Fashion District another day looking for a present for the family hair stylist. I decided to explore The Pretty Green Terrariums. There are so many items for mind, body and positive energy. I said hello to a nice young man who introduced himself as Holden the store owner. I told Holden that I was looking for a small gift for someone that has overcome a medical challenge and has such a positive energy by providing a service and great experience. Holden directed me to various lip balms, an elongated white crystal for positive energy and compliments other crystals. An additional suggestion was a bar of soap that not only smelled good but is environmentally friendly. Holden is not just a young ambitious store owner that has unique earrings made by his sister. He has items supporting local artists and his soaps are hand made using items that would be ordinarily disposed of from local restaurants. I was so impressed with the gift suggestions that I purchased the same items for my daughter. Holden placed the items in a pretty green tissue paper and paper bag with the green business logo on the side, which was lovely and convenient. I did not need to gift wrap the presents. My daughter raved about the Blood Orange lip balm. She said the scent is lovely a and the balm really moisturizes her lips. Terrariums, crystals, positive energy, unique gift ideas, environmentally friendly, small business supporting artists and local businesses is the best way to describe this refreshing establishment. read more

DO NOT GET SOAP! I purchased the "Cherry Wooder Ice" soap thinking it was cute and smells nice. It does smell great and uses real cherry stems as an exfoliative property. However, there was an entire stem in mine, sticking straight up. I didn't think much of the scratching sensation, since it's supposed to be exfoliative. But I come out of the shower and find painful, ugly scratches all over my legs. I worry this could have been a splinter risk. read more

Interesting shop with limited hours on South Street, just a block or two past the Whole Foods heading towards Broad Street. They build terrariums out of unusual objects, big and small. The displays are gorgeous. It's a bit dark inside, which adds to a moody, artistic vibe that this shop sort of gives out. The window display is what lured me in, though I can tell you that a tiny baby succulent in a little pot for $10 is not something I would think would sell well when you can probably buy the same thing or $2 elsewhere, but I might be wrong. A negative - they play music on a speaker that is hooked up on the street. Not a fan of that. Already competing with honking cars, ambulances shrieking and police car sirens, no thanks to additional and unasked for street noise. read more

purchased a money tree that my son selected himself, and he loved the beautiful bag and two-tone green tissue paper the owner/clerk packaged it in for him. the guy who ran the shop also patiently and cheerfully answered all his questions about what kind of sun and water it needed to keep it alive. (also, they stock multiple species of carnivorous plants!! very cool.) made it all the way back to north philly on the BSL just fine - and my son giggled the entire time about how his plant was being carried in its "fallen family members". shop has a great vibe (yes, you can hear stevie nicks from the street, and no, I'm not mad about it); and although the products are definitely of a delicate nature... it's definitely a family-friendly place for kiddos of the right age. not just for date night y'all read more

I stopped in here on a whim because this is exactly the sort of shop we dream of having one day! It's cute and perfectly curated for the hippie, the mystic, the gypsy, the witchy, and the plant parent types. I love plants, but I'm not very good at keeping them alive. The gentleman at the register pointed out a few different plants and assured me that even I could keep them alive. I grabbed the one that caught my eye, and found it a bit pricey at almost $50, but this was before I knew anything about buying or caring for plants so forgive my ignorance. I took it home, gave it a good water, and left it in the corner of my room. It's pretty dark in here. I forget to water it. Over six weeks later my plant is still alive. Just as beautiful as they day I brought it home. Which is probably why you should buy plants from a place like this that cares for them and gives you proper instructions, unlike a certain hardware store... I'm not from Philly but when I come back I'm buying another plant. Maybe more. I'm very hooked on being a plant mom now! read more

Philly has some great plant stores and Pretty Green Terrariums is a gem conveniently located on South Street. Today after following them on Instagram I bought a terrarium. The sales associate was patient and helpful with all of my questions before making my purchase. They even provided written directions! They also have other tempting items to purchase that range from cards to crystals and offer workshops too. Will definitely be back to feed my plant addiction. read more

I highly recommend shopping at this store! I "bumped" into this store (2/16/22) and KNEW there was something in there that I would want to buy...well I bought an unusual ivy-type plant and a good luck charm for reasonable prices. All that they sell is unique, stylish, and beautiful. The clerk was extremely knowledgeable/professional. There was a sign advertising classes on building terrariums but I live near NYC so I didn't look at the details. WORTH A LOOK!!! read more

After passing by the shop for months, decided to go in on a Saturday. I was the only customer in at the time and although someone was at the counter in the back, he was on the phone and didn't even take time to greet me (and from what I heard, the conversation was not urgent in nature). I browsed for a while, never getting the attention of the person on the phone. Finally decided on a plant and took it home, not super impressed with the customer service. The pothos i bought hasn't done very well and it turns out that the whole thing is just a bunch of cuttings, rather than one plant. Is that normal? Sad to say but I will definitely not be going back - plenty of other stores I like better. read more

The inventory looks great, and the co-owners Holden & Jeremy have a pretty inspiring story; self-starters always impress me! I spent two months trying to make an inquiry about a custom order, sending IG messages and emails every few days. I never got a response. I'm new to the neighborhood, and have walked by this vibrant little plant store several times. I stopped in once a few weeks ago, and as soon as you open the door it's like you've entered an enchanted garden where life is literally growing out of every nook and cranny. I returned tonight and the owners Holden and Jeremy were there. Holden is so passionate about his green friends, and so excited to tell me about every tiny living being in every mini-ecosystem in his shop. He created every terrarium in the store himself, and knows how old each one is and exactly what is growing in them. You could feel the love that he clearly poured into creating each of these tiny worlds - like living works of art. I feel pretty honored to have one in my home now. They have plans to offer classes, host story hours and local artists. I really can't wait to see their little shop grow - no pun intended. I will definitely be back for some house plants and maybe another terrarium or two. read more
