Price Electric allowed me to get the hot tub of my dreams. And you know what, I bet they can do the same for you! Yes. *Points at you* A hot tub for you (and new electrical panel). *Points at someone else* A hot tub for you (and new electrical panel). Let's all install hot tubs, Eastern Iowa! My not at all practical pipe dream of having a hot tub to bask in all began with a hot tub. Once it was secured and... we realized we actually could not just plug it in to the existing electrical outlet. (How naive of me to assume it was that easy?!) It took a hot minute to find an electrician. But once we found Price Electric they made it happen. They were responsive. They were quick acting. They got the parts and installed the electrical panel the day we had hoped. They even accidentally didn't have a part (doh) and STILL made it happen within 24 hours. Both securing the part and sending an employee out the following day. AGAIN, making my not at all practical but oh so worth it hot tub dreams a reality. I emailed Tami in the morning and by that afternoon, I had an appointment for a crew to come the next morning. It was so quick! Tami was super responsive and answered all of my questions. I resorted to a Google search when two other Electricians didn't return my phone calls. I chose Homewood Electric from a list of electricians in my area because I liked their name. This is the same way I choose my wine. Kady at Homewood electric couldn't have been more patient and helpful while I was attempting to explain my needs. She scheduled someone to come out to look at my job within a few days. Mike was able to come out to have a look a day earlier then we scheduled ( that is a rarity with any service provider). I had a reasonable estimate emailed to me within 2 days and they were there to complete the work within a week. They were accommodating and able to work with me as I was out of town. I came back to a job well done(passed inspections) and they left the area very clean. Homewood Electric will be my first call when I need electrical work done again because of the experience I had and they are a small family business. read more

Called them to solve a breaker that kept tripping. The guy had it figured out in less than a minute and fixed in about 10 mins. So electrician was fine. When he left he said they'd bill us for a half hour, which I thought was also fine. When we got the bill, it showed a $150 labor charge, plus tax. I called to ask why and got some nonsense answer, and that they'd have to talk to the electrician. Later got a revised bill for $100 labor. Every other qualified electrician I've used in Iowa City charges $60/hr. (both on my residence and rental units). These guys apparently charge $200-$300 per hour. I wil not be using again. The two electricians did a fantastic job analyzing a cable TV problem, coordinating with the cable service, giving me alternatives and completely fixing the problem. The electricians rerouted cables, repositioned splitters and fished wire through a wall to a basement TV. The work looks professional; meaning no one will notice the work. They cleaned up the dust and put the TV cabinet back in place. I would recommend Homewood Electric. read more

Extremely overcharged for hourly wages

I recently bought an 85-year-old house with some quirky wiring, and I hired Homewood to deal with knob and tube wiring and install grounded outlets. I was really impressed with their work: the electricians were professional, came when they said they would, did a great job, and charged a fair rate. I recommend them highly! read more

I tried Homewood Electric for the first time and overall, I was not impressed. The job was to install a ventilation fan and update some knob and tube wiring. The electricians left a mess throughout the house and didn't use any footwear protection. They cut a hole through our wood floor boards and didn't screw them back down once they were done. They left holes in the ceiling around the ventilation fan and when I requested they fill them they told me that was not a part of the job and that sometimes the ceiling falls down in old homes. I would not recommend Homewood Electric to my friends or family. Very poor attention to detail. read more
