This review is based solely on the facial I received. I showed up for my appointment and it started promptly, which was great. The aesthetician asked a few basic background questions but did not ask if there were any skin issues I'm currently having or what products/routine I have. Based on my previous experiences, this facial was not particularly "clinical". Lots of aromatherapy and oils, but no extractions, focusing on problem areas, or recommendations for future treatments. I discovered Studio N through their Groupon, and when I called to get an appointment they said that if I hadn't purchased it yet they'd honor the Groupon price! I wasn't sure what to expect, but was so happily surprised with the great hair cut I received at such a reasonable price! Andrew did my hair and was great about walking me through all his thoughts and his process to get me the haircut I wanted. He was also great about telling me about my options for color in the future- and I think I'll definitely be back for that! He was easy to chat with and my appointment lasted an hour- super reasonable for a haircut! The studio has such a cool aesthetic, with mirrors hanging from the ceiling, a lot of natural light, and a lot of wood. While I think it looks amazing, the outlets for the stylists are in the mirrors and so when using any tools the mirror swings. I get motion sick pretty easy so that presented a challenge, but I'll admit it presented a great look. The other thing I loved was the hair washing station. The chairs were great because they pretty much have you laying down rather than sitting in a chair with your head thrown back putting all that pressure on your neck. They use fabulous products (LOVE Davines) and everything smells so great. They ask for credit card and contact info when you book, and I've seen in other reviews and understand that that's an issue for some people. I used to work at a small appointment based business here in Albuquerque and we did the same thing. It wasn't to steal info, it's because any booked time that a client don't show up for is money lost for the business. They send you an email detailing cancelation fees and policies after booking your appointment, I'd recommend reading it when you get it! I found Studio N through their Groupon, because as usual I am a girl on a budget, and was incredibly impressed with my experience. Their location on Monte Vista is fresh and full of light, complete with chairs, mirrors and countertops made from wood pallets. The studio was clean and crisp and everything trendy I was looking for. I called on a Tuesday morning and was able to make a same day appointment with Becky. Becky was an absolute delight, not only did she do an excellent job on my hair she was also an above average conversationalist. She was able to keep the conversation going so it never felt forced but rather comfortable, like I had been going there for years and we were old friends. As for my hair it was exactly what I wanted, she was also able to clean up my undercut and add a nice design, which not everyone can do. Ok this is my second review for this place..I really wish I had read the review from B.M. Marissa cut my hair...yes it took for ever, she did do a nice job until it came to my bangs. I just emailed the salon....lets see if I hear back from them. My bangs are WAY TOO SHORT!!! and worse yet crooked....I asked for sweeping bangs these are not I look ridiculous! She styled my hair so that I couldn't see they were so short/crooked. I didn't notice this until I was home. so long story short..ask for the owner when you get your hair cut here. UPDATE 8/18/13 I received an email from the Owner, Nam, this morning. He apologized and asked me to come in and he will fix the issue. (I'm not sure how bc the bangs are still too short.) From what I can tell, they have a duo problem: two locations with similar names, which are easy for new customers to mix up. The other issue is that their online appointment system only allows you to make one choice, rather than picking multiple choices (i.e. cut, style, color, and blow dry). What ends up happening, as I've read, and as has happened to me, is that they will inform you that the computer only allows them to schedule one thing. So it might be that they only have time for a cut, not a color. Fortunately, they called me after I booked, and I was able to get it straightened out. Had I not, I would have shown up and only gotten a cut. All in all, the online system needs to be abandoned until they get it figured out. It makes them look like flakes, or fools, which isn't a good thing ever, and which they truly aren't. When your online system fails the customer, ultimately, it's failed the business. read more

I got my hair done today and I had a great experience. I purchased a groupon for a cut and partial highlights. Bridget was my stylist. She listened to everything I said and always asked questions and double checked with me before she did anything. I got a trim and bayalage color. I had to pay a little bit extra because I needed extra fools for the highlights. My hair came out great! I have not been able to stop looking in the mirror. It is definitely a change and I haven't gotten used to it yet but Bridget did a great job. I would absolutely recommend this salon. I saw the other reviews after I bought the groupon. And I'm glad I did it that way rather than the other because I liked this place. I've admired it's trendiness from the patio of the Flying Star next door and often wondered what kind of person could go there. Aura cut my hair, she was meticulous, she helped me work out what I would like and offered suggestions regarding my cut. The Groupon was well worth it and I'll go back without one. The space is clean, modern and you may feel somewhat voyeuristic with the large windows. I read that others felt it took too long to cut their hair. I noticed his too, but I would rather it take longer and be a better cut, it's not supercuts you know. I've had super fast cuts with the stylist not paying attention like at La Bella down the street in 20 minutes and paid as much or more and felt like I was just robbed....so I'm okay with this. The shop sends you emails hoping you've enjoyed your services and really is deeply concerned by your thoughts regarding the experience. read more

Stephanie absolutely butchered my hair. It looked like it was cut by a child. This is not an exaggeration. I asked for a long bob with layers, and for her to take no more than two inches off the overall length. She took at least six inches off, probably closer to eight inches in the shorter layers. She also colored my hair, and when I returned home I found there was color all over the skin of my ears, neck, and at my temples. The owner, Nam, fixed the haircut for me, and it looks much better now, but I'm still very unhappy about the length. Unfortunately, there's not a lot you can do once someone hacks all your hair off. Nam does a fine job, and is an interesting person to chat with. I would recommend him. I would recommend avoiding Stephanie at all costs. read more

I called Studio N to make an appointment after seeing a great deal on Groupon. Unfortunately, my experience ends there because I ended up cancelling my appointment. I was uncomfortable with the fact they requested my credit card number to have on file for my account. I've experienced credit card theft in the past, so I may be more concerned than most, but I've never had to do this with a salon before. The girl on the phone was very kind, and was only doing her job, but to say that they need my credit card on file "just in case something happens" doesn't convince me. I understand that the Groupon only covers certain services, but I would pay for those at the end of my appointment... preferably with cash. read more

(Nothing to do with Stylists) They are a fraud. I callled 2 weeks ago for an appointment availability and was told they where booked so I decided to go to a different salon no biggie, right? Wrong, that same day I was charged $30 off of my card that I TRUSTED that company with ( when they put you in the system they require Name/Number/Card on file) I've called just about every other day since May 23rd and haven't heard a thing back from any management/person in charge. I finally had enough of "I'll have them call you" excuses and went in today and the manager wouldn't come out and told an employee to tell me he was "too busy to talk to me" and also said he "has been way to busy these last 2 weeks to even give me a phone call back" . Excuse the fuck outta me but you messed up and charged a customers card who did not receive service or did not make an appointment so I don't care how inconvenient I am. How unprofessional it's almost sketchy. It's not even about the money at this point, it's the principal and lack of respect. I will be getting my refund though. Bet on it. I've been going to Leah for almost two years now for my highlights, cut and style and I am a HUGE fan! I always get compliments from others after I leave. Like this last time I went to pick up food and one of the waitresses brought water out to me and gave me so many compliments on my hair and wanted to know who and were I went! Which of course I told her! When I go in to see Leah I go with whatever she recommends and I am never disappointed. And my cut always lasts a while so I don't have to get in every month. She even taught me how to curl my hair! And I love the high quality products they use which also happen to smell amazing. Plus they always have the BEST music playing!!! I'm so incredibly upset by my haircut from Stephanie that I want to cry. I can deal with a poor cut because I have these terribly uneven layers that look horrible, but the really bad part is she thinned my hair and I feel like its completely ruined by waist length hair! I want to cry I have never had my hair so bad!! When I left the frizzy mess she created with a diffuser hid it, but now I can really see the horrible damage. My wedding is in two months and I feel like I made the biggest mistake coming to get this haircut and I would give anything to go back in time and not go!!! If you have thick hair NEVER let someone thin it, especially someone who doesn't know what they're doing!!! On the positive side, they were patient with my 15-minute late arrival as I had gone to the wrong location. Beware there is more than one Studio N in Albuquerque. However, after more than an hour and a half I left with a haircut that didn't look much different then when I walked in. Hairdresser did not listen to my request to even the layers up and take it to chin length. I basically got a minimal trim all the way around and a bad bang trim. Very disappointing. read more

I tried to use a Groupon and was very disappointed by the experience. I have never used one since I've been a loyal client and it said if you hadn't used a Groupon within 12 months, which I had not, it was valid. The price was not honored and the process to try to get the Groupon cancelled has been difficult. The employees were difficult about it and I didn't appreciate the customer service. The owner promised to help me figure out how to cancel it and I have not heard from him since. I love love this place! Being from California and already having a preferred person to do my hair made a bit reluctant to try this place. But I was getting tired if holding my hair Maitenance for every time I went back home. This place is nestled in a charming strip mall next to flying star. The studio is clean, modern and has a nice view of the trees and the passer by's. The people here all pretty friendly for the most part and will have have a nice conversation while wait for my hair to finish dying. I go to Aura and this girl is the BOMB! I have never met a hair stylist that is good with cutting, dying AND blow drying. She is the triple threat :) seriously! If I ever move back home I know without a doubt that I would be coming back to NM just to get my hair done lol. Aura does not go scissor happy so when I leave I am not crying because my hair was cut too short. I also love the way she styles and blow dries my hair... I have NEVER seen anyone do that. There some people who do my hair and when I get home I just want to use the flat iron to re do the style. Pricing ... It may be pricey for some, I guess I'm use to the California up charge lol. But when aura does my hair she will be working on it for up to 3 + hours so when I think of the cost it is very fair. Plus my hair is really really long and therefore taking up almost the whole day. I have been going to Nam for years. He isn't just a stylist; I see him more of an artist. My hair always looks phenomenal when he is finished. He is able to cut your hair in a way that enhances your facial features and frames your face. I've gotten cuts, blow outs, highlights, and full color changes from Nam and his salon and every time has been an absolutely pleasant experience. He only hires the best and so, if he isn't available, I trust his girls to meet his high standards for work. I have to rate this Studio N not good because I am very disppointed that my hair color came out horrible. The price was too high for just some color on my hair. It came out unevenly and too blondie. I contacted the owner regarding my concerns. He basically do not take it seriously about my concerns. I called, emailed and even several attempts to response almost a week, and I felt ignored. There is a no immediately solution. I waited too long for the solution. The communication was left unsolved. I have always thought the owner is a great person and has done so well on my hair for a last few years until recently, things turned a huge disappointment. I got my hair cut here about a week ago using a groupon for a haircut and deep conditioning. Christina cut my hair and did a great job of it. She took extra time to teach me about products and styling techniques, even as she had another customer. Christina obviously cares a lot about her clients. First impressions: great decor, very chic, and friendly staff. Pros: Great value, especially with a groupon. Inspired decor. Passionate staff. Overall, a well-run operation. Cons: the website needs work, as it's very hard to navigate and unappealing, especially for a salon with such beautiful aesthetics. I had my hair trimmed (very pricey!) by the owner of the salon. He was great and helpful about sharing styling tips. Well worth the money. While I was at the salon, the only other client at the salon was a Groupon customer. Unfortunately, this customer wanted her blue/black hair dyed back to something lighter. Bleach and peroxide were involved and the colorist was NOT careful in any way, as I took my turn in a bleach splattered, but comfortable, shampoo chair. I left the salon with pretty hair and bleach spots all over the back of my sweater and pants. Unfortunately, I will not be back to this salon. read more

Second time customer here so I must be a fan of this place. I was definitely happy with my first experience here. This time around I was booked with Cheyenne for color and cut. I left with an amazing cut but no color and this is why: My hair cut and style alone took 2.5 hours which for me seems like a ridiculous amount of time. I had only been planning to be there for 3 hours total for cut and color but when i realized the cut was taking so long I had to book the color for a different day. Not sure about other people, but I have a busy schedule and other things to do. That aside, I really liked that Cheyenne took her time and clarified with me whether i liked my cut and if she was on the right track. Now days I feel like most stylists don't listen and just do what they want. She also kept asking if I was happy with my hair and in the end I walked out with an amazing hair cut. On a side note, there happened to be an event going on that day and I walked out a winner of a hair straightening tool, free lunch, and a blow dryer attachment. So win for me and was worth the wait. I am excited to get my color done in a couple of days. I do want to add that another reason i decided not to do my color that day is because Cheyenne informed me that the salon was out of gloves in her size and she was going to just use her bare hands to do my hair which she also let me know would not be as accurate and also doesn't sound very safe for the stylist with such harsh chemicals. read more

I called today to schedule an appointment and they asked me who my mobile provider was, which has nothing to do with haircuts for starters. Then she asked me for a credit card to hold my appointment. I have made appointments with very high end haircutters that don't ask me for a credit card. She said they charge $20/hour if you don't show up. How can they know how many hours you would have been there to charge you? What if you have an emergency?! I told her the nominated Albuquerque Best of City hair salon doesn't even require a credit card. She said then why don't I just go there. I would steer clear of a place like that!!!!! read more

Terrible customer service. I called to book an appointment and the person trying to book the appointment was not well-mannered and kept making mistakes. Once I thought he finally got it figured out, I was looking forward to my hair appointment the next day. I arrived at my appointment 10 min early and sat until the only hairdresser in the salon finished her clients hair. Once she finished, she said, "We tried to call you earlier. Has your phone been turned off all day?" I asked her what number she was calling, and long behold... it was my old number. I told her that I'd recently changed my number and let the person on the phone know this and even gave them my new number. Shouldn't they save that kind of important information, especially if they ask for it? She said, "I have another appointment at 6 so we won't have enough time to do your hair today, sorry." I left dumbfounded and perplexed because I really needed my hair done that day and the best they could offer was the next week. I was extremely disappointed so I won't be returning to this salon. I just moved to the area about 2 months ago and had been contemplating getting my hair cut in the Albuquerque area because my husband had been through 3 different barbers in the area who did not give him the cut he wanted. Anyway, I did a Google search and saw that Studio N had great ratings. So I thought, "I'd give them a shot. They're close by my house and seem reasonably priced." I called hoping to get a same day appointment but thinking they would be booked since they have good ratings. I spoke with Kiana who was very friendly and said they welcome walk-ins but also take appointments. They were able to take me in within the hour and it was Kiana who cut and styled my hair. First of all, let me say that she did an amazing job on my hair! I had a picture of the style I wanted and she did it perfectly! She was hospitable, offered me water, was very friendly in conversation and sweet, was professional, and had excellent customer service skills. Even doing the most simple things likes offering to put my purse somewhere else (other than the floor) so hair wouldn't end up in it, was really nice and showed she had great service skills. Even the owner asked me how everything went and introduced himself. He wanted to make sure I was satisfied with the cut and you could tell he was really focused on making sure his salon's clients were satisfied. I told him about my husband struggling to find a good barber in the area and he took an interest in asking to see a picture of my husband so he could make an assessment of the style my husband wants. I told my husband about my good experience here at Studio N and there's a good chance my husband will try them out. It's not everyday you find a stylist on the first shot, but I did. I will be back. Whack job. Stephanie did not come even close to my specific instructions. SHE decided to proceed and leave no two hairs on my head at the same length. I can't even begin to estimate the extended length of time my hair will need to grow out to be at a state where a repair cut will even be possible. My guess would be at least six months. Six months of this disgusting mess I am doomed to live with. Every minute of every day is a constant reminder of how furious I am with this dump. I do not recommend this salon if you are looking for reliability. I actually went to this salon three times and encountered problems every time. The first time I was there, my hair color came out dark black instead of dark brown, but I lived with it for three weeks. At the second appointment, my first hairdresser was no longer there, so I was sent to Suprice, who explained that a lighter hair color would involve a very long process and she didn't have enough time so she touched up the roots and trimmed my hair. The third time, I was running late, so I called Suprice to inform her that I would be about 10-15 minutes late and if I needed to reschedule that was fine. She told me it wasn't a problem as long as I could get there in 15 minutes, she would be there. I arrived at the salon within 10 minutes and was asked to sit and wait. I sat there for 20 minutes only to be told that Suprice had left and I would be taken care of by another hairdresser! At that time an attempt was made to lighten my hair, with highlights. After the next shampoo, while out of town on vacation, my highlights became brassy orange highlights, but I lived with it for two and a half weeks. I then scheduled another appointment with Surprice (who was the only one available) to have a full color and I received an appointment confirmation for a 2 hour appointment. When I arrived (ten minutes early) for my scheduled appointment, Surprice told me she could only touch up my roots because she had scheduled another person in that time, so she didn't have the time to do a full color. That was the last straw! I left and went in search of another salon! read more
