    Chicken Teriyaki Bento

We went for lunch on a Thursday and it did not disappoint. We were seated quickly and service was great. We ordered the spicy edamame as it is one of my favorites dishes in general and this is honestly one of the best in San Marcos that I've had so far. It was very spicy, the edamame were huge and full of flavor and the chili oil they used was even better for dipping the sushi in it after . Then we got the teriyaki chicken and the Texas State and Volcanoes fried roll. The sushi was fresh and so so good but the teriyaki chicken had surprised us. It was honestly some of the best we had so far and we were pleased with the portion size too. I would recommend it all as it was all amazing. The restaurant also has a nice feel to it and is a cute spot!

I was visiting the area and really wanted a poke bowl. I looked at a few places and this one has pretty good reviews. I really can see why. The ordering kiosk was down so I placed my order with a server. I created my own bowl with crab and tuna. I added avocado, seaweed salad, and spicy tuna. It took about 10 minutes and it was ready. The food was incredibly fresh and delicious. My server was very friendly and has some good suggestions for the menu. The restaurant is in a small shopping center. The parking wasn't my favorite but I was able to find a good spot.

Researched sushi in San Marcos and this one had a high rating from over 200 Yelpers. Sure to not disappoint I thought, but Yelp has failed me this time surprisingly. This place is a 3-star quality restaurant tops. FOOD: Shrimp tempura (2/5) seemed like it came out of a frozen box. Bulgogi-Don (3/5) was decent but the bowl looked sad in terms of their beef ration. The Volcano sushi (3/5) was mediocre even after sitting on its own puddle of oil. And finally, the Double Spicy sushi (2/5) was double the disappointment. The sushi on top felt too cold/icy. SERVICE: The waitress was very nice so no complaints here. LOCATION: It is located in the middle of Texas State University inside a strip mall with plenty of parking. NOTEWORTHY: Relatively cheap, which is probably very attractive to the college kids on campus. But you get what you pay for.

Came back a few months later and the sushi is just as good as our first experience. Got here mid-afternoon on a Saturday, around 1-2pm, and most of the tables were full. The sushi was fresh and tasty and the cold small plates/appetizers really set Umami Sushi apart from other small sushi joints - the small plates are very flavorful and are similar to dishes you would find at a more upscale sushi restaurant. I also like that they have a good fish to rice ratio, oftentimes sushi that is a good deal or on Happy hour is mostly rice with a small piece of fish but that is not the case here, the fish is a decent size compared to the rice portion.

I dropped in here Wednesday night after having rehearsal nearby. I had read good things about the place and was excited to try it out. I will say I was not disappointed. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, and not very loud despite having several people dining in. Service was great, my waitress, very professional and kind. Their menu has a great variety of food but I decided to order sushi. The waitress recommended the Spicy Flaky Roll and the Firecracker roll, both fresh tasting and delish. This is a place I wish I lived closer to so I could visit weekly. Nevertheless, I plan to be a repeat customer.

First time here, dined in around 1pm on a Saturday and the service was attentive. Food came out fresh and quickly. The lunch specials is where it's at! Great price for what you get: your sushi of your choice, 5 chef pieces, miso soup & salad for less than 15$! Check this place out!!

Do they have a kids menu?

I've seen kids in there on a couple occasions, but I've never seen a kids' section on the menu.

The second we walked in it was cozy. It was also Christmas time so they had a Christmas tree and it was decked out in Christmas decor. Surprisingly there was only one other person besides us. We ordered gyoza as an appetizer. Took a little longer than expected but it tasted pretty good. I personally like mine crispy and this was a little more soft but flavor was good. Then we ordered either the General Tsos or Chicken Katsu (can't remember which!) My husband said it was ok. (But he's also a bit picky). It did come with soup which was your average Asian soup that comes with the meal. I believe it was the clear soup. I ordered the Otsu roll and that was delicious!!! My hubby tried that and he liked it so we ordered another! In fact, we've been back 2x since just to get that roll. It's deep fried with cream cheese, cooked or smoked salmon and eel sauce. Yum! The reason I gave it a 4 stars was for the softer gyoza and for the very slow service. The waiter was very kind and pleasant but he was the only one serving so at one point my husband had to get up and look for him and ask the chef to place another order because we had been waiting again for the waiter which we had to do a few times during our visit. All in all, we will be back! Loved the coziness, the non crowded space and most of the dishes.

I was also craving some poke, so was happy to see it on the menu. Location wise, Don is super close to the TSU campus, just off N LBJ Dr. It's located within a small square, along with several other small shops (tattoo shop, hair studio). Outdoors - good amount of free parking available via the attached lot; indoors - order at the counter, then find a seat at one of the long tables. There's also complimentary fortune cookies at the self-service counter. All the food comes in to-go boxes. Salmon Poke ($13.50, 4/5) - The salmon was tasty but could've done with a little less salt - Generous portions. Also really liked the addition of ginger and seaweed salad to the dish - Highlights were the different mayo sauces (curry, wasabi, spicy) - my favorite was the wasabi! Overall, Don is a straightforward, no frills spot with good energy and customer service. Food was good and very filling as well. I'd recommend checking out Don if you're looking for an affordable, asian fusion option near campus!

What is our purpose? It's a question asked and never answered. As we sit on this floating rock…read moreaddicted to our curated algorithm, I worry our drive and desire for purpose is lessening. One weekend of whimsy and joy is enough to refuel the tank and bring that drive back. One $23 expenditure at Kobe Steak House & Sushi is enough to turn the light back on in my mind and create a divine spiritual experience. While visiting San Marcos for a friend's birthday, we were ultimately led to Kobe for dinner at the recommendation of his roommate. My friend was very excited to put some work in. We arrived a little before 7:45, and after a confusing queue where they messaged us that our table was ready before it was actually ready, we were seated at 8:00. Once you're seated, the waitstaff takes a drink order and explains the process if you need it. I'll explain it here: you're given a piece of paper where you mark what you want from a list identical to the menu. With a group, it's important to collaborate and make sure you get a good order in but not overdo it. Every piece you don't eat is a $.75 charge, so unless you have someone like me who locks in, be careful. For starters, they serve soup, appetizers like edamame, fried rice, rangoon, wontons, and more, plus salads. You order them at the same time as the sushi, but they come faster because the sushi has to be prepared at the bar. The sushi includes your traditional nigiri plus maki and specialty rolls. Once we threw in that first order, we were shortly munching on wontons, rangoon, fried rice, and everything in between. Everything here was good. Nothing too extreme flavor-wise or anything too memorable, but there was nothing I didn't like. Our first plate of sushi came out about 20-25 minutes after we placed the order. Off the dome, we ordered octopus nigiri, salmon nigiri, red snapper nigiri, a Philadelphia roll, a Shaggy Dog roll, a Spider roll, and a few other things I can't remember. I do strongly remember how heavenly the Shaggy Dog and Spider rolls were. It's important to understand that Kobe is not a premium sushi restaurant. Similar concepts that are higher-end can cost $50-$70 a person, and I think you can obviously tell how amazing higher-end sushi is. That concept and this concept are playing a different game. Kobe is in a college town where hungry college kids will shove as many rolls down their throats as they can. For the value, the quality is shockingly high in my opinion. However, I was moving sushi rolls through my system with such efficiency that it's hard to figure out if the rice was old or the sushi had freezer burn like another Yelp review said. Who cares. This place is doing exactly what it's advertising, and you're getting a better deal than what you're paying for. How can this be profitable for Kobe Steak House & Sushi? Our second order had another Shaggy Dog roll, another Spider roll, a TNT roll, and some more nigiri. By the time we burned through that, most of the table was full. I personally could have kept going, but everyone else was a quitter. At least that's what we thought. After our great waitress brought us our checks and we all paid, one of my friends made a big stink about how no one else wanted more and she would've had another Shaggy Dog roll. I wasn't going to let that slide, as I had voiced my opinion of getting another roll going well in advance. The waitress was nice enough to get us another roll after I proceeded to embarrass our entire table about it. We left Kobe before the managerial staff came out and beat us up one by one for being the most annoying table in Kobe history, but it was all worth it. Kobe is one of the best $23 meals I've ever had. A place that made me wish I had gotten a degree at Texas State. It opened my third eye. It was a meal so good we had to pull out the Tarot cards. RIYL: Tim Allen's 2006 family comedy film The Shaggy Dog

I first want to say that our server Madison was wonderful and so friendly!…read more Outside the service, we were disappointed in Kobe. We may be a little spoiled after living in Vegas when it comes to fish quality, and the $15.99 AYCE lunch price may have been a clue, but this was not a solid meal. Some of the fish, specifically the albacore nigiri, was not fresh and was almost dry on top. The salmon was fine, but the tuna was cut poorly and had no flavor. The salmon, tuna rolls had a substantial amount of rice instead of fish, and I've never seen a tuna avocado roll with cream cheese before? At the most maybe some cucumber, but not cream cheese. And the fish in the salmon/tuna rolls was shredded like it was the leftover shreds from nigiri or other rolls. The rice was dry and old, perfect for fried rice, but not sushi. The only rolls that were OK were the Mexican Roll and the Tokyo roll, and they were fine, but then my son had the albacore nigiri and stopped eating. The seats were all torn up as well. The restaurant would benefit from a refresh. I'm not looking for a super fancy, especially when the prices are what they are, but there was a lot of opportunity here.
