My sister came here to get her hair done before her birthday party, turned out NOTHING like she wanted. Wrong color and wrong hairstyle, and on top of that whatever chemical the lady used ended up burning my sister's scalp really bad which I'm not sure how the lady didn't notice. Absolutely loved my experience here. This is a more upscale salon than you would expect to find in riverside-for me it's like being transported back to a big city without having the astronomical prices. Elynda did a great job matching my natural hair color to quiet a few incoming grays and did a good job cutting my curly hair which is on the finer side and presents some fun challenges for a lot of stylists. Everyone is friendly, seems to like each other and their work, AND they play great music spanning many decades. Would highly recommend! read more

Soooo disappointed with my experience here! Booked an appointment with Elizabeth (she had the soonest available time slot) and she quite literally gave me the exact opposite of what I asked for... I've sat in many a hairdresser's chair in my lifetime and I've never had this happen to me before. My booked appointment was for 11:30-1pm and I suppose I'd pressed the wrong description ("Highlights-- Money piece/few foils") when booking online, but instead of giving me at least some semblance of what I showed her I wanted, she actually spoke down to me and left me with chunky bright blonde streaks on my framing pieces and underneath. She was so passive aggressively patronizing that I literally got disgusted and very uncomfortable, but still foolishly trusted that she could do at least a decent job of slightly getting my hair to where I wanted. Kept telling me that there wasn't enough time to do what I wanted, was very sarcastic when I accidentally said "lowlights" instead of "highlights" once, and told me "Next time you're unsure of which service to book, just call us"-- which would've been helpful advice had she not been just so blech about it. Unprofessional! I got home and was completely baffled at how much she'd dyed UNDERNEATH.... I wish I'd taken a video because it was just so utterly odd how she dyed the majority of my hair that you couldn't even see unless it was pulled back into a ponytail. When it was pulled back, it was terribly streaky blonde and just nothing anyone would want, EVER. She literally dyed my money pieces and the layers that were completely covered by other hair. A complete waste of $92 ($85 + tip, because as much as I hated her work and her attitude I would more so hate not tipping.... maybe I'm a pushover for that LOL). Overall, the photos speak for themselves. Maybe there are some other good stylists at this place, but perhaps not Elizabeth or she was having a bad day. Cannot believe I wasted my time and money here. I had to go to a different salon merely a week later to fix it because besides it looking terrible, it was also already brassy. read more

I went to get my hair done from Angela, looking to get partial highlights she notified she didn't have time to do that which I was like okay, that's fine. So I asked her if she just could touch up what I already had, so touch up my roots on my money piece and the blonde in the back and dye the brown I have that faded. She let me know she didn't have time for that either. And that I had to choose between touching up my roots or dying the brown which both needed a lot of help. And I was very confused because I've never left a salon with half of my hair not done. So I suggested If we could do a shadow root on my bangs to at least have the grown out roots blend into my blonde that I had. She then she was like, "we can do a hair mask too." Which made me assume she was offering me it for free considering she was only doing half of my hair and kept saying no to everything I wanted for my hair. After washing my hair and rinsing the dye out/putting the shadow root, I asked if I could get the slightest of trim on my bangs since they were uneven and I thought since I already didn't get a good hair dye experience, my bangs could at least look good. She again proceeded to tell me she didn't have time even though she asked me to come earlier before my appointment time. She finally agreed which I appreciated. Except I was surprised when I found out I got charged for the hair treatment which was $35. Then I get home and I notice the shadow root didn't do anything and my roots are still VERY noticeable. But also I was just shocked that a hair stylist would let me leave looking like that? It's also not the first bad experience. A couple months ago I had copper hair and needed my roots touched up and I wanted to add 2 blonde pieces, one on each side of my face. For some reason she didn't leave out the 2 pieces of hair and started with dying my roots and then put the bleach afterward instead of applying the bleach right on the root and that piece. She also applied toner to the rest of hair that didn't match the root she did so I had 2 different tones of copper. One super bright and one much more auburn brown. Both times it seemed she didn't really want to do my hair or do it well. It makes me upset because she seemed very nice but I just don't understand as a hair stylist how you'd let your client leave that that. I'm not a difficult customer which is why I let her not do what I wanted with my hair. I just wish she would have suggested this second time around if she didn't have time for me or what I wanted to do with my hair to have rescheduled for another day and time which I would have been fine with. Instead of doing half the job and having to come another time for another session in addition to the session I got which was $175. I let Allison the owner know of my experience and instead of being apologetic about my experience, like "I'm so sorry for your experience. Let me talk to your hairstylist to get her side and I'll get back to you I got, "hi. Who is your hair stylist?" Not once did anyone ever apologize for the inconvenience. She also notified me that Angela would call me and fix my hair. But Angela's version of fixing my hair when talking to her on the phone was just doing a free shadow root. That's all she could do. Anything else she'd have to charge me. If you're a new customer looking for a hair stylist who cares about good communication, how your hair looks and expect good customer service, I don't recommend coming here. The sad thing is I've been here before when Aubree worked there and she was great. I'm not one write this lengthy of reviews but I'm really upset with how this got handled. read more

It was my first time here, and I looked forward to this salon after seeing some really nice photos of pretty hairstyles. I was going to my boyfriend's company party that night (first time attending together too!) and wanted to feel/look fabulous. I told them when I made my appointment, at the front desk twice and then the stylist herself that I wanted to get bangs. But due to the time constraint, I was running out of time to get ready with makeup/dress, so I decided not to get them bangs anymore. Now the stylist who worked on my hair was on the lowest tier, a regular Stylist (I believe the next up is Senior Stylist, and the highest was Master Stylist). Since I hadn't come here before, I wanted to give whoever a chance to do my hair, regardless of stylist level. But I instantly regretted that. Nearly 3 hours was spent trying to make waves in my hair, 2 different ways. Both ways failing horribly :( The last way was the most tedious, taking about 2 hrs to do (pin curling every few strands of my hair) and when she took one out to see the result, my hair remained straight. Such a sad feat. That's when she recruited her co-worker to help out. Instead, I was discriminated in a way. It wasn't exactly my stylist. But she was having a very hard time doing my hair, and could not achieve the Hollywood waves I requested. It was actually her fellow co-worker who, when describing my hair said, "No offense, but she has Asian hair." Sorry I don't have Caucasian hair? I gave a good, pity tip since it was the holidays and let's be real, my stylist spent a lot of time trying to do my hair though her techniques were not proficient enough (I also needed more of that hairspray!!). So I felt bad, she seemed nice as well. It's just, I don't think I'd be back here for the high price and you don't even get the result you want. In the end, they sorta found a solution at the last 30 mins of my appointment (went way over by an hour or so). The waves were kinda there, kinda not. Definitely not the Hollywood waves they're capable of doing which I saw on some of their clients. I felt my own time was wasted since I still had to finish getting ready. I also feel I was being even generous giving them 2 stars; but like I said it was the holidays and lotsa OT work money for me anyway lol, so didn't mind tipping more. read more

Ok, so let me start by saying, MY HAIR HAS NORMT SEEN 1 good day since before these "Pandemic Times" got ahold of it since before lock down last year! I have bounced around trying to find 1 decent stylist to get my hair back in shape, and it has only gotten worse along the way! It has been put through it all and by time I found Elizabeth, I was desperate for any fix that would not further over-process my fragile hair. Elizabeth was patient as I explained that I was dreading the idea of having one dark color put all over my head as a previous stylist recommended. She assured me that she could infuse the bleach with some bond stuff (which is apparently some restorative serum for bleaching), and safely paint me lighter around my face. Elizabeth delivered with the most seamless hilights I've ever received. She glossed/cut/and deep conditioned the rest of my brassy head. My expectations were highly exceeded, in half as much time as I've ever waited to have my hair colored in a salon. I have my standing 8 week appointment booked with Elizabeth going forward because my time and money is too valuable to settle for crapy hair ever again! read more

Salon is very nice and welcoming space. I went in just to get a haircut and some treatment done. I got a long layered haircut and requested some face framing layers as well. Angela was sweet and took care of me and was able to give life back to my long hair that I needed. The reason for the four stars however is that when I got home I noticed that my face framing layers was off. I saw that one side portion of my hair was cut way shorter compared to the other side. It wasn't even so I had to go back and cut the other side to fix the unevenness. I was a little disappointed but the rest of my hair looks great! Krystal was AMAZING! I came in for a bayalage and cut service and I'm really happy with the results after my 1st session. Krystal was super honest about what I wanted with my hair in terms of how long it would take and if it was possible to lift my hair to the extent I wanted it to be or not. She was super friendly and made the 3 hour session pass by like nothing. She even gave me lots of tips on how to take care of my hair, how to prepare for my next session, and even how to maintain and trim my own bangs (especially during the upcoming lockdown!). My hair still feels very healthy despite the bleaching (she made sure to keep the integrity of my hair by telling me I need different sessions for bleaching my hair to lift the color) and it looks really good. I have been looking for a new hair stylist for awhile now, and I'm so glad I found Erin! I walked in the salon and I was greeted by someone, and I sat down while I waited for Erin. While I was getting my hair dyed she was asking me questions, she's very friendly. The place has a nice rustic look to it, they have music playing through out the whole salon. Everyone seemed to be busy, some faces friendlier than others. But I didn't pay much attention to that, since I was pretty happy with Erin. I was on the look out for a new salon as my stylist of 7 years moved to LA (he used to be at Jon Michael right in front of the Mission Inn). My natural color is a dark brown... my hair is long (almost to my waist), thick and lots of it. For the last 7 years I've had ombré to balayage a golden honey blond with light roots as well. I would never miss a hair appointment (roots every 2 months and redo the blond every 8 months) and use salon recommended hair products. I had been following the stylist from this salon for 3 months on IG and had really good pictures. I also saw that they had postings that they had been nominated for hair awards. I had really high hopes. My appointment was given within 2 weeks, I was looking to get my roots, balayage and toner done. The appointment was set for 3 hours, that should have been a red flag because my former stylist would take over 2 hours alone just to foil my hair. When I got to this salon I told the stylist that I wanted to redo the whole balayage (bring the blond up higher), since it was almost 9 months old. She said I didn't need it and only needed a "touch up" and root color. She foiled only the top of my hair and literally only added about 6 foils. When she took the foils out the blond was an orange color (nothing like the honey blond I came in with). She said I just needed a toner. After the toner I told her I didn't like the color because the top blond she did, did not match the rest of my color and the toner will wash off. She said I would need to come back for a second session and pay for another session. In addition the placement of the blond looked more like chuncky highlights rather than balayage. My former stylist would take his time (even 5-6 hours sometimes) and always made sure the color was perfect with little damage.... he charged a lot but it was always worth it. I would not have completed the first session with this stylist if she would have told me in the beginning I would need a 2nd session... she wasn't up front with me. If she couldn't do it in one session she should have told me and I would have gladly looked elsewhere. After coming to Prim and Proper my hair looked horrible, my coworkers had even asked if I had tried to do it myself. Luckly my coworker recommended someone in Redlands, Ca. I had to wait a month to do a color correction that took over 6 hours but looked way better. I do not recommend this place to any one who has lots of hair and naturally dark that's wants to go lighter. To be fair I did see women with naturally light hair that really looked nice. And the girls/stylists are really friendly and nice. I did not hear any of them talk bad or complain about others---- but "nice" doesn't give you good hair. read more

I wanted to do what I usually do: highlights and haircut, but for the very first time in my life, I was rejected because my hair was too fine and thin. What??!! I would even be ok, if she would suggest something different, or gradually add mode highlights with time, or a long term plan, but rejected???Great way to make your client feel embarrassed for the type of hair they have. So they may be good for those who have been blessed with thick and volume hair. But if you have thin hair (like I've always had - or even if you have damaged hair ) this may not be the place for you. This is a review for Erin that pains me to write. I went into Erin with a bright blonde balayage. It had just grown out. All I wanted was it freshened up and taken closer to my root, with an inch to inch a half root so that the grow out is seamless. It was a super easy ask. After the tone at the bowl, I sat down to find massive and thick streaks of blonde and orange at my root. She asked me if it was okay and I was horrified, not only because I clearly stated that I wanted to keep my dark root, but because even the color was unsightly. I'm talking bright orange and yellow colors all over the top of my head. After retoning it at the bowl a second time, I still left horrified at the end result. I left the salon with the blonde completely gone and replaced by these weird ashy streaks and these huge chunky brass highlights taking up half of my head circa Kelly clarkson in the early 2000s. I was in tears as I left the salon because I had no idea how it could have gone so wrong. I showed friends and family and they all agreed it was a radically different hair style and color than I even went in with, let alone what I had asked for. Erin seemed to find no fault in the end result. I reached out that night and told her I wasn't happy and scheduled a time to go in the next morning because she assured me she could fix it. Well I should have never done that given the horrible result the first day. While the second time was better, it was still awful and not even close to what I asked for. The front half of my head was still brassy and two toned with thick chunks going all the way to my root. The back of my hair had a rosy tint to the whole thing. And the top was toned way too dark and not at all blended out so it looked really harsh and unnatural. But what I didn't even realize until I washed my hair was how horrifically she damaged it. I told her bluntly that I didn't want any more bleach on my hair because I was worried about the damage bleaching it two days in a row. She reassured me over and over that she was putting the lowest level bleach and there was no way it could harm my hair, it would just lift the toner out because it was too dark and that was the only way to do it. I stupidly trusted her against my better judgement. Well after leaving pieces of it on there for over 30-45 minutes, it most definitely did fry and damage my hair. I now have chunks of it breaking off and it is like elastic, just shredding off when wet. It looks and feels like hay now. I have been in tears for days over my hair that was once long and healthy, and now frazzled, broken, and breaking off more and more every day. I've now just paid nearly $250 to have my hair corrected by another stylist. She knew the second she saw my hair that not only was the color awful, but that it was severely dry and damaged so unfortunately there was only so much to do. She gave me a deep condition, tried to tone the colors differently and kept apologizing over and over that I had to go through this. I have asked Erin for a full refund which I still haven't heard back from her about, assuming she is refusing. It's one thing to have someone mess up your hair color, it's another thing completely to have them damage it beyond repair. And it's completely unethical to make someone pay you to do it. I've never even left a salon unhappy, let alone in tears at what happened to my hair. While Erin is an incredibly nice person and I enjoyed chatting with her, unfortunately felt I had to leave a review so others could avoid having the same experience I just had to go through the last three days and that I will continue to have to go through as it will take years to grow out my hair to the length and healthiness it was before. I would never recommend Erin to anyone to work on their hair. read more
