But around 10, i received a call from them telling me my appointment was starting. I was very confused. I literally had my appointment time on my calendar and I later checked and it was indeed in the afternoon. I tried to bring this up with her but she seemed to just gloss over it and continue with the video call. I was still drinking my morning coffee completely a mess. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe a glitch. But then my next appointment I was called at 8 in the morning being told my appointment was starting! I obviously ignored it. I later got called again during another appointment I had saying my appointment was starting. At this point I was pretty upset. I have had doctors call me before to reschedule but never just being wildly called throughout the day saying my appointment starting now. So I called the office telling them to STOP. Literally while I was on the phone explaining the situation they called me for a third time telling me my appointment was starting. The lady I spoke to was very nice and said she would contact the office manager about this and I would no longer be bombarded at all time of the day with reschedules. I couldn't believe how rude the Dr could be to call me whenever she wanted just to get me in sooner. Ppl make appointments for a reason. Now I have a different issue with her. I told her about two months ago that I wanted to be treated for sweaty hands. I told her about how my insurance directed me to go specifically to a dermatologist for the procedure. This was a whole big conversation with my case manager. She sent me medication but the insurance denied it. I called and was told to make another appointment. She just wanted to try more medications. I told her to just apply for the procedure,explaining that I have had in depth conversation with my case manager at the insurance. But she didn't listen, she just gave me more meds. She told me if the medications wouldn't be approved they wouldn't approve the procedure. A few days later I got a denial letter. I called, and called and called. I called every week for a month. Explaining my situation. Told the person over the phone to let the dr know, that once again the medications were being denied but to just apply for the procedure. Because AGAIN I've had this convo with my insurance. The fourth or fifth time I got someone and they told me. There is nothing on your chart that says you ever called in. She said she'd tell the office manager. I was dumbfounded. I couldn't believe how many hoops I've had to jump through... the lady calls me back the next day. Oh btw you will pretty much always be called at like 8 in the morning because apparently this is appropriate for this office. She told me, that after 2 months of this back and forth. That the doctor DIDNT EVEN PREFORM THE PROCEDURE. She never thought to tell me this! I might be losing my insurance and she wasted 2 months of my time when she knew I wanted to get the procedure done. when I told her my insurance told me the procedure would be covered! I'm FED UP. I've found a different derm that actually does the procedure but I have to wait another two month to even be seen....

I can't pronounce Otolaryngology to save my life but that doesn't really matter. I have been to the Springfield and Alexandria offices for issues my mother was having. At this location we were helped by Jorge M. Torrez Montano, PA. The consultation was for my mother's test results. Mr. Montano was brilliant. Before giving my mother her test results he eased her into it. He explained everything slowly and thoroughly. By the end of the appointment having this particular allergy didn't seem to bother my mother as much as I had anticipated. I believe that it had a lot to do with Mr. Montano's bedside manner. The office staff was wonderful as always.

Most routine appointments are handled by his PAs. I've had several over the years, all of whom have seemed competent and follow in Gehring's pattern of treating patients as an integral member of the medical decision-making process. Only complaint with Dr. Gehring's practice is that he and most of the specialists he refers to don't have privileges at my preferred hospitals (Alexandria Hospital and iNoVA Fairfax). As far as I'm aware, the only nearby hospital he and his practice-mates have privileges at is iNoVA Mt. Vernon (which I've had dangerous and costly experiences at and refuse to return to).

Some highlights to speak on: 1) Parking is ample, both street parking and the lot that is tucked behind the building. 2) Wait time is minimal (~10 min if that?) when you enter to check in for your appointment. By the time you're finished filling out all the necessary forms, a nurse comes out and calls you to take vitals. 3) Everyone is kind is professional. My PCP at this practice is Dr. Kwabena Owusu and he is THE BEST. I actually had my annual physical with him today. Very personable, easy going, and friendly. One time I had a mild scare (too embarrassing to go into detail lols) and called the office to see if he could fit me in. Despite him having a full schedule, he was willing to quickly fit me in for a quick 10-15 consultation for my issue. He is wonderful and would recommend him if anyone is looking for a PCP. I'm actually surprised that there are such low ratings for this practice, but I don't require much. As long as people are professional, generally nice, and don't speak down/at me, I'm a happy camper.

I found it funny that he has had a relationship with a doctor so long, because I'm always hopping from one place to the next. About a year and a half ago my husband came down with a very high fever out of nowhere. I took him to the emergency room several times and they always sent us home saying to just get more fluids and to take a tylenol. The third time we took him to the emergency room is when they realized that he had come down with a very bad E Coli infection that could have turned septic without appendix surgery. Since my husband's parents were out of town on a cruise, Dr. Ferrer stepped in and made sure that shizz got DONE. She is super strict, brisk, and old school which I found to be a bit shocking but I can't say that the women is not effective. Within a few days the hubs was feeling better and luckily has only visited her a few times since then for his yearly check ups. I have a feeling when we have a family he will make sure our kids go to her as well!

Looking back, our family watched the medication negatively impact her quality of life, and it was heartbreaking to witness. I understand migraines are extremely difficult to treat, and patients deserve compassion and relief. However, I believe there should have been greater caution, monitoring, and discussion about the risks associated with prolonged use of an opioid nasal spray known to carry dependency concerns. I hope this practice takes concerns about medication dependence seriously and prioritizes safer long-term treatment approaches for vulnerable patients.
