I saw dermatologist Vivian. The first visit was awesome. But from then on, horrible. My second visit was via video call. I made an afternoon appointment. But around 10, i received a call from them telling me my appointment was starting. I was very confused. I literally had my appointment time on my calendar and I later checked and it was indeed in the afternoon. I tried to bring this up with her but she seemed to just gloss over it and continue with the video call. I was still drinking my morning coffee completely a mess. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe a glitch. But then my next appointment I was called at 8 in the morning being told my appointment was starting! I obviously ignored it. I later got called again during another appointment I had saying my appointment was starting. At this point I was pretty upset. I have had doctors call me before to reschedule but never just being wildly called throughout the day saying my appointment starting now. So I called the office telling them to STOP. Literally while I was on the phone explaining the situation they called me for a third time telling me my appointment was starting. The lady I spoke to was very nice and said she would contact the office manager about this and I would no longer be bombarded at all time of the day with reschedules. I couldn't believe how rude the Dr could be to call me whenever she wanted just to get me in sooner. Ppl make appointments for a reason. Now I have a different issue with her. I told her about two months ago that I wanted to be treated for sweaty hands. I told her about how my insurance directed me to go specifically to a dermatologist for the procedure. This was a whole big conversation with my case manager. She sent me medication but the insurance denied it. I called and was told to make another appointment. She just wanted to try more medications. I told her to just apply for the procedure,explaining that I have had in depth conversation with my case manager at the insurance. But she didn't listen, she just gave me more meds. She told me if the medications wouldn't be approved they wouldn't approve the procedure. A few days later I got a denial letter. I called, and called and called. I called every week for a month. Explaining my situation. Told the person over the phone to let the dr know, that once again the medications were being denied but to just apply for the procedure. Because AGAIN I've had this convo with my insurance. The fourth or fifth time I got someone and they told me. There is nothing on your chart that says you ever called in. She said she'd tell the office manager. I was dumbfounded. I couldn't believe how many hoops I've had to jump through... the lady calls me back the next day. Oh btw you will pretty much always be called at like 8 in the morning because apparently this is appropriate for this office. She told me, that after 2 months of this back and forth. That the doctor DIDNT EVEN PREFORM THE PROCEDURE. She never thought to tell me this! I might be losing my insurance and she wasted 2 months of my time when she knew I wanted to get the procedure done. when I told her my insurance told me the procedure would be covered! I'm FED UP. I've found a different derm that actually does the procedure but I have to wait another two month to even be seen.... read more

I've been a patient for a number of years and have been very satisfied with the level of service I've received from all of the staff. First, I saw Dr. Albert Herrera for over 20 years. As he became swamped with administrative duties, I switched to Dr. Mark Sullivan in the same practice. Dr. Sullivan has been devoting a number of hours trying to coordinate my treatments with a number of specialists who are treating me for problems with my kidneys, bladder, colon, skin, blood, vision, and diabetes When I encountered problems, I was able to find a solution. For example, I wanted to get copies of the doctors notes to make certain that I remembered all of the decisions we had made that day. The staff refused my request, so at the next meeting with the doctor, I raised the issue. He said I had a right to see anything in the file, and he informed the staff. After this, I never had a problem accessing my records. read more

I've since been hounded by a collection agency (coerced into paying by too much) and am being threatened with hits to my credit rating. I had an unpleasant experience today. I'm a patient of Dr. Dennemeyer. Someone from the office called and left a voicemail telling me I needed to schedule the appointment to get prescriptions refilled, apparently they're doing that now, but most of the prescriptions I've been refilling since last year. I was less than 10 minutes late to my 2:45pm appointment today, but by the time they answered the door to let me in and took my temp (twice), and got to the counter to check-in and pay my co-pay it was then a whole 10 minutes that passed (2:55pm). However, the woman at the desk then said, as she was checking me in, that she was sorry because it looked like I would have to reschedule because they only allow you a 10 minute window for appointments. (Mind you, every time I go (early or on time) I'm never seen at my appointment time, it's always 10, 15, 20 minutes after my appointment time.) Anyway, I looked at the time and I said, "Hmmm...okay." She asked me what was wrong as she began to open the calendar to reschedule me. I told her, "I thought I was within the 10 minute window." She looked and said I was right and that she would get me checked in. She then asked for my co-pay. After that I sat down and waited to be called. When the nurse (Natalie) called my name I went back and she seemed aggravated with me already as I was walking towards her. She started walking away from the door as soon as I got up, then was standing in the hallway waiting for me to catch up to her like I was taking a long time. That was weird. Then she spoke harshly/sternly to me (I feel like she always does, honestly) when she told me to put my stuff on top of the counter and step up on the scale to check my weight and also said that when I was done I could go have a seat in the room behind me. I said okay. She took my vitals when she came into the room and began asking my questions. She asked me more than once about smoking and chewing tobacco. But what I found weird was the last question she asked me. She asked, "And what's your sexual orientation? Are you straight, gay, homosexual, lesbian, trans?". Maybe it was the way she asked me, but it felt really weird and off-putting, it made me uncomfortable. I've been a patient for over a year. They've never asked me that before and neither has any other doctor I've been to...EVER. When the doctor came in she asked me questions about which prescriptions I was there for, but I told her the same thing I told the nurse (that I didn't remember and that the person who left the message didn't say which ones I needed to come in for in the voicemail). We went through the medications, she asked me what the results were from my other doctor's appointments, and she listened to my heartbeat/breathing through my chest and back. The last thing she asked was if I had any questions or concerns today and I brought up the last question the nurse asked me about my sexual orientation. I asked her if she was supposed to ask me that and why now. She said that it was normal/required and that everyone is asked the same question. I replied with a weird, "Really? Oookay." I told her I've never been asked that before. She asked me if there was anything else and told me to have a nice day (or something to that effect). I'm asking my friends/family now and none of them have been asked this and find it strange and rude. (Honestly, this nurse (Natalie) reminds me of a nurse that used to worked at the Internal Medicine office I used to go to in Alexandria where I was a patient of Dr. Waddell's. That nurse was rude to me (might be the same woman), and violated me on one occasion making me completely undress on top to places nodes for a heart monitor, which Dr. Waddell had already said I could leave my bra on for. Well she made me take off my bra, left the room, then burst back through the door without knocking and brought two more people in the room and I'm standing there topless! Anybody could have seen me naked! Her response to my being uncomfortable: "You don't have anything I haven't seen before or that I ain't got myself so!".) Whaaaaaat? I had to schedule a fasting appointment and a physical with Dr. Dennemeyer, but after today I may need to cancel and find a new doctor... read more

I first visited this facility last fall and it wasn't the best visit, but I decided to give it another chance recently, which was a mistake. Money over patients. My wife had an appointment to see a doctor regarding lingering pain from childbirth. She was 12 minutes late because her GPS took her to the wrong building. They turned her away, claiming they had a policy that if you are 10 minutes late they won't see you. This is nowhere on their website or any of our confirmation emails. Even though my wife had a crying newborn in her arms and she was clearly in distress, they didn't care. The last straw was the next day we got a call from them saying they were going to fine us $50 for a "No-Show." There are plenty of other healthcare providers that actually show compassion and care for their patients. Avoid Mount Vernon Internal Medicine. read more

My husband died of a stroke on July 2, 2019. In June 30, 2019 he asked me to take him to ER to be admitted at Inova in Alexandria, VA. DR. Liza D Le MD at Inova in Alexandria. A refused to admit him. He died 30 hours later. Medicare statements I recurved say he was CRITICALLY ILL on June 30. I repeat my husband was CRITICALLY ILL according to Medicare documents. Dr. Liza D Le MD REFUSED to admit my critically ill husband to the hospital. And did not tell me ANYTHING that led me to believe he was CRITICALLY ILL. In 2017 my husband had a variety of issues: back pain, vascular, .... drinking. If Lauren Jost NP had taken the time to give us what we specifically asked for a referral to an alcohol counselor, there is a real chance that my husband would be alive today. We went to Lauren Jost NP for HELP. We received NONE. When I returned home I documented our horrible experience w her and emailed it to myself. Below are in part my notes fm that day. I read L. Jost, NP the medicare description on p 37 of 2017 Medicare and You book section entitled "Alcohol misuse screenting and counseling" and requested that L. Jost, NP refer Ty to someone in her practice to receive these medicare paid-for services and to get prescription Nax. (sp) to help diminish desire for alcohol. L. Jost NP said No. She does not perform those servies and no one in the practice performs those services. I asked her to refer Ty to someone whose specialty was counseling for alcohol and she said she knows of no one. Really? L. Jost NP said that b/c of Ty's history she would not perform these services provided by Medicare. She said his history is that he was in-patient for alcohol and he has failed and needs to be in complete abstinence program. L. Jost NP told story of her patients one that had stomach by-pass and "bragged" of eating through the procedure. These kind of people will not get additional services b/c it is a complete waste to provide services to people like this. Really? I thought is L. Jost, NP saying that any effort Ty makes to drink less is a waste and that services to help him cut back should be denied? I persisted using an overweight metaphor saying I know someone (Terry) who overeats but continues to try to loose weight and to maintain weight. She does not completely give up. And said, I want to find a doctor who does perform the services described in the Medicare book on p. 37. L. Jost, NP advised us to: call Medicare. Really? Someone who is a senior - on medicare - is going to give up with this kind of advice. I will not give up. This is not, IMO, facilitating health on the part of Ty. Ty is trying to cut back and is eating healthy and going to club house to work out a couple of times a week. I explained to L. Jost, NP that going to a de-tox is not possible in Ty's situation at the moment b/c he has only medicare. When he went to Kolmac he was on my insurance and my insurance covered this. So my view is do the best w what you have. Ty has medicare and although the service is limited and not the best possible - in L. Jost, NP opinion. However, IMO and Ty's it is at least something. So Ty would like to take advantage of this service b/c his philosophy is every little bit helps. L. Jost, NP persisted in telling Ty to call Medicare. My read on this is - I will not help you. I do not approve of this. And you go out on your own and figure it out yourself. I was very dissatisfied. Further, I find it hard to believe that L. Jost, NP does not know ONE SINGLE provider that offers alcohol counseling. read more

For the most part I like Mount Vernon Internal Medicine. They have steadily made progress as to the waiting room and appearance of the place, in the old waiting room we were all on top of one another. At least there is more room and you don't have to feel the spray of snot on your arm when someone sneezes. When checking in, I have never had a problem with any of the friendly ladies up front. They are all pleasant, and even funny. My problem is that I sometimes feel like the youngest one in the waiting room and I am 43! A lot of the older ladies and gentlemen always seem annoyed, and complain about everything, demanding appointments as they walk in, I actually thought one guy was going to have a heart attack, he was so angry! I started going to MVIM back in 2006, and I have had 4 different primary care Nurse practitioners, or MDs. I sometimes can't get an appointment at the Hinson Farm Road location and have to go to Springfield, I find that extremely annoying. I also find it annoying that I have to weigh in even if I was at the joint the day before, would my weight have seriously changed in 24 hours? When I finally get into those little examination rooms, the waiting times have varied dramatically, I have waited as long as 2 hours, and as little as 25 min to see a care provider. I always bring a book. The Nurses always seem to ask me about medication that I told them on the previous visit I no longer take. When I finally get to see a doctor or nurse I feel rushed, and sometimes like the doctor is annoyed if I ask questions, or have concerns about medications. My average time in the examination room is about 5 min, the longest I was in there has been about 10. On the positive side the doctors and nurses are always ready to provide letters to my employer when there is an issue. I do appreciate that aspect. All in all I have no big complaints, I just wish the doctors and nurses would take a little more time with me when I have concerns. I don't like feeling rushed when I am concerned for my health. read more

Lorton office, with a friend to see Dr. Bao G Bo - at the LORTON OFFICE. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!! My friend was in serious pain, we explained the symptoms, the length of time with the issue and walked out with a prescription we specifically said wasn't working and two OVER THE COUNTER DRUGS (Excedrine Migraine & Benadryl) - for severe pain issues, insomnia and there was absolutely NO PHYSICAL EXAM, no blood work!!! Basically lied to our faces about the fact that these medications were over the counter, so Dr. Bo did nothing, absolutely NOTHING to help my friend. The referrals that he gave us for specialist did not take his insurance, they were of ABSOLUTELY no help. They should spend less money on how the office looks, or their new fangled registration system and more on the quality of doctors they hire. SKIP THIS PLACE, complete waste of time. OR at the least avoid Dr. Bo, now we know why he was able to get an appointment so quickly. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. I requested an appointment due to a persistent cough that is not responding to treatment. The doctor spent no more than 5 minutes with me. She barely listened to what I had to say and seemed to be in a hurry to leave, gave me a prescription, an order for chest X-ray, and sent me on my way. When I asked what the reason for my cough could be, she babbled that 'It could be anything". As I was walking out she casually mentioned that I may need to see an EMT (no referral, just a thought). The visit in general was NOT helpful at all. When I received my visit's notes, I was disgusted to see that they listed "obesity" as the reason for visit, and "15 minutes behavioral counseling" as treatment. They listed my cough in 3rd place!! It is bad enough that they did not help me with my cough and on top of it, they lied so that they could charge more to my insurance. If that wasn't enough, they made me feel like they are calling me fat behind my back! I don't know if they think nobody reads their notes, or how they presume to get away with this crap. I like Mount Vernon Internal Medicine a lot. It's generally quite easy to make appointments and the office is easy for me to get to (plentiful parking, etc). Sometimes I feel like wait times on the phone can be a little excessive, and I've had to wait for appointments occasionally (it's generally worse later in the day), but nothing unusual for a doctor's office. The lab is easy to access. Staff are friendly. They send prescriptions to your preferred pharmacy electronically. But the main reason for my review is the nurse practitioner, Lauren Jost. I had seen others in the office prior to her who were fine, but she is just amazing. She is friendly, kind, upbeat and listens well. I have never had a physician who I believed genuinely cared about me. She seems to care not only about my health but just about me in general (and remembers thing going on in your life--work travel, moves, etc). I feel so lucky to have found her and recommend her to friends and family regularly. read more

Today my dad who has lung cancer, booked his appointment with the doctor because he was feeling sick and coughing more than he usually does, (he will always cough he has lung Cancer) The assistant or whatever she is said that they can't help him because he is sick, that he need to book a virtual appointment. What type of doctors are working there? I noticed MVIM have other locations, so I want to mention that this review is for the office in Alexandria. I went today for the first time to get my physical exam and some blood work done. It was great! From the time I went in the staff was nice and cordial. I was called within 10 minutes and they didn't get my copay before me seeing the doctor. Score! Maybe this is normal, but I am not used to it. (See my review on Dr. Richard Nemeth's office) My nurse (or physician assistant?) was Henry. He was fast and attentive. My check up was by Dr. Rachel. She's super nice, a great listener and very knowledgeable. When I explained all my symptoms, she mentioned a few possible causes but explain how will we discard or treat each one of them. Dr. Taylor is amazing. I hesitated to post this as I am greedy and don't want anyone else to see her except my folks. But seriously, she is amazing. Her bedside manner is the best I've seen at this practice in years. She keeps tabs on her patients, and knows what's really going on. I feel great to know my people are in great hands. The staff at the front, techs, nurses are also phenomenal, I see how they interact with the other patients and it's commendable. Healthcare has changed and you have to roll with the punches. I had a mammogram done. Dr Tyleenda called me after hours . She didnt bother to leave a vm. I called back the next day with high anxiety about my results. Can you imagine a night of worry. I spoke with the front desk personnel name Lucia or Lucille. She was very rude and dismissive even after I explained my concerned. She advised me that Dr Tylernda was working at the nursing home and that she may or may not get back to me today. I was frustrated and overwhelmed. Lucia or Lucille continued to speak very loudly to me as I kept insisting that I needed to speak with someone that can give me the result. Since Doctor Dominique Taylor left it has been ridiculous to find a good Dr there. I now need to find a new internal medical office. After being with Mount Vernon for the past 8 years I have reached my breaking point. We are talking about a mammogram not a hurt toe. This matter is serious and to deal with such dismissive employee sealed the deal. I had a terrible and extremely unprofessional experience with the staff at My Vernon Internal medicine. I went to the office for a simple annual physical that is completely covered by my insurance and a $15 co-pay. Approximately 3 months later, I received a bill for an additional $55 for an EKG that I didn't ask for. This charge was outside the standard check-up that I authorized and was what I believe an attempt to pad my bill. Nine months later they are attempting to bill my insurance for an additional $532 for lab work related to the same exam! In my opinion, these are extremely dishonest business practices. Suddenly, I received an online response in February 2017 regarding those September 2016 labs. On 2/10/17 I received by mail my August 2015 lab report. As the result of Dr Sarah Dennemeyer's advice on Feb 19 I responded properly on Feb 20 to my failing condition. As advised I took an Ambulance to Mt Vernon Hospital, found I was critically ill with a septic infection. Mt Vernon found it necessary to move me to INOVA Fairfax emergency room since the infection had reached a critical stage. After 3 days in ICU and 7 days in critical care my vitals came back. It took another week to correct my failing kidneys, and on March 6, 2020 I was cleared to go home. Today my doctors have determined that I am almost fully recovered and can resume my normal activity read more

This is concerning getting medication refilled with MVIM. For two weeks, I've attempted to get MVIM to send in a new (refill) prescription for a medication one of their medical professionals prescribed for me. Yet as of this date, no prescription as the pharmacy has not received it. I am out of the meds so my levels will be off when I go in for my check-up. Think anyone there will be accountable for the failure? I doubt it. Terrible followup and poor customer service. read more

I've been taking the same maintenance medications for a condition for over some 20 years. Normally, my doctors elsewhere, and there, refill my prescriptions in 6 month intervals. But no longer at Mt Vernon Internal Medicine. They decided to require that I make a monthly visit for renewal -- and to pay for a co-pay each time. Further, they never even told me. They simply ignored the pharmacist's request for renewal. I was left with no medicine. Called the office in Lake Ridge and was told that if I came in and paid a monthly co-pay, my long-term maintenance meds would be renewed monthly. Ka-ching, ka-ching. They wouldn't see me because I was 10 minutes late for my appointment. They told me it was because they have a 10 minute grace period and after that they cancel your appointment. I told them I was here within 10 minutes. They told me that the doctor wouldn't see me because she was still seeing other patients and it was too close to lunch. So if she's seeing other patients that means she wasn't ready for me 10 minutes earlier. I'm never coming back here. I would prefer to see a doctor that cares more about my health than she does a sandwich. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. I have been going to MVIM for years. Not only is there a lack of communication, but the doctor's act as though you're bothering them when you ask them to simply do their job. I am having surgery in less than 30 days. I had to have my medical clearance form signed off on and sent NLT 30 days prior or I would risk losing my deposit. After numerous calls to this office they informed me each time that they had already sent the paperwork over and that the doctor had already signed off on the medical clearance form. Two days later, the surgeons office calls me and says that they never received my medical clearance form. I called Mount Vernon back (after about 8 attempts) and they told me that the doctor never filled the paperwork out. I became very frustrated with the lack of communication and them giving me the run around. Therefore, I asked to speak to a manager. Someone by the name of Dr. Mary Ann, who claimed to be an office manager, came on the phone and began to instantly get an attitude with me. She asked me what was my problem. I began to explain to her the situation and she told me that she wasn't going to send over the medical clearance letter because she felt like it was redundant to send the medical clearance form when they had already sent over my blood work. I then proceeded to explain to her that if that's what the surgeon requested then could she just send it. She then became irritated with me and said she wasn't sending it because it wasn't protocol. After going back and forth with her, the paperwork was finally sent by another office manager named Grace. They have the most unprofessional office mangers I have ever came in contact with. They really need to do better and hire more professional staff. read more

During my recent physical, the doctor showed no interest in a couple of minor health problems that I had recently been experiencing (I mentioned some problems, she made a few handwritten notes, and asked me no questions nor provided any follow-up). I gave the doctor a form that I needed to have faxed to my insurance company in order to avoid an increase in my monthly premium. After two weeks, my insurance company had not received the form. I called the doctor's office and was informed that the form could not be located. After obtaining and completing a new form, and calling and emailing the office manager several times, I discovered that the form still had not been faxed. However, the office had submitted paperwork to my insurance company so that they would be compensated. The office manager lied to me about having faxed my form, refused to send the signed form to me so that I could submit it myself, and showed no concern regarding my pending premium increase. Last year, the office staff tried to tell me that they would not tell me the results of my pap smear test over the phone. They said I needed to make an appointment to learn the results. This is clearly unethical--doctors cannot withhold the results of a patient's tests. When I pointed this out to the office staff member over the phone, she quickly looked up the recent result in my file and let me know that everything tested normal. Good doctor's offices let you know these results via phone or mail without any prompting or harassment. This is a poorly run office with disinterested doctors. read more

Mt Vernon Internal Medicine undoubtedly the worst group practice in all of greater Washington, DC ! .(..BAR NONE,). First off the phone service is the worst. Simple prescriptions can never be filled correctly or on time. The staff and management could care less! Worst of all, ...they only have ONE PHONE LINE into four offices. The wait will never be less than ten minute to get a live voice.The chief Doctor, Dr. Hararah tells his staff he does not take complaints. The phone "call center" readily admits to a lack of staff and Working phone lines! On one occasion I was on hold at 5pm, and the entire phone system shut down and dropped my call after I had been waiting 20 minutes. No call back, no apology, nada, zip, go to h*ll! If a member of my family got sick, I would drive to the nearest gas gas station to get help as their response time and concern is greater than Mount Vernon Internal Medicine. This review is after 5-10 major bad experiences, ...not just one. I have been going there for twenty years working with a great Doctor, Lowen Beale. He has since retired. I should have left then. Things get mixed up there. My husband got an order for an X-ray on a different knee. I was misdiagnosed. Long waits. Trying to find another practice. Dr Carter's tone can be dismissive and patronising. Had a fungal spot on my skin and she just said its my old age (I was 35 then). A specialist in another place just prescribed a cream that cleared it in a few days. Update: Spent 2 hours there for a sick appointment. This included 10 min with the nurse and 5 with Dr Carter who was on the computer asking me repetitive questions some of which did not apply to my situation. The only thing that was her recommendation for me is to stop nursing as there is a lot of 'bad' going to my baby through breastmilk. I only came in with a flu-like illness and all my tests were fine. I was so shocked that did not even tell her that when I get sick antibodies are produced and my baby gets his protection through milk. She also prescribed antibiotics to me for a sinus infection that I do not have but in case it develops into one.... I am going to another practice. Fast. Just not looking forward to getting my medical records from them as they are normally too disorganized to send required information in a timely manner. read more

I've gone to Mt Vernon Internal Medicine a few times before, but today was the last. I called the call-center before going because I was wondering if I needed an appointment to get a vaccine. After spending 20 minutes on hold, I finally was able to talk to someone. The gentleman on the phone said that he wasn't sure, but that he'd check with the lab. He came back and told me that all I had to do was go to the office and go directly to the lab. Once I got to the office, they told me that I needed an appointment with a Dr first. They were nice enough to squeeze me in, but never got the message to the Dr. After sitting in the exam room for 45 minutes I finally got up and left. This is not the way to do business! The office has also been under construction for 6 mo-1 yr and looks very messy. read more

I went to this office for a routine physical once. I will not go back. The med/nurse assistant was terrible. The blood draw was unnecessarily painful. It took her several attempts to insert the needle into my vein. My arm was sore for several days after that. Also, she performed an unnecessary EKG on me. If I had known that it wasn't a routine part of a physical, I would have declined it. It was a shameless money grab. This office billed me directly for the lab work instead of sending it to my insurance company and didn't bother to let me know when the lab results came in. Ms. Korin, the nurse practitioner who did my physical, was very nice and thorough. However, I specifically scheduled my appointment with a doctor. It's just irritating when I'm scheduled to see one person, but end up seeing a different person. Save me the confusion and just schedule me with the nurse practitioner from the beginning. read more

Use to be good!!! Now they can't diagnose you and calling them is a nightmare!! I have to wait 30 mins to even get in touch with someone and sometimes I just hang up because it's been so long! I use to love this place but all the good doctors left and it's going downhill quickly read more

I scheduled an annual physical at this location, waiting for almost 30 minutes to be seen, and then was told after I was waiting again in the exam room that my insurance didn't cover annual physicals without some other procedure. My insurance is not uncommon in this area. I then asked if it would cover TB testing and was told that it wouldn't (which turned out not to be true). This whole conversation was had with the doctor with the door open so I had no privacy at all. To add further insult to injury, the medical assistant who took my chart if I was hacking her brains out and wasn't listening to the answers I was giving to her questions.
