I went for a physical exam appointment early August this year. I must admit I was just on time for the appt and late to fill out ppw, in which they courteously let me finish probably backing them up a few mins. In this appt I had a urinalysis and blood draw for labs. After the appt. I was asked if it was okay to be billed out for the appt. I refused and said I wouldnt mind waiting. After a minute or so, I was charged $150 and asked if that was it? I was told yes. Fast forward, two weeks later I received a $142.99 bill from PathGroup in which is to cover for labs. To be quite frank, I am a Medical Assistant and front desk personnel of an office myself and I know there are policies established to let patients know of such charges to patients. I called the third party billing office directly to make sure I did not have any withstanding balance with the office. The billing rep I spoke to stated I indeed did have $144 balance with the office. Have in mind this is a separate bill from the labs. The rep was no help whatsoever and redirected me to call the office and they should be able to work with me if something was misinformed. I went to the office to speak to them personally. I received nothing but apologies and that I should receive a call back from the manager when Dr comes back from vacay etc. Oh, 2 things I did get out of this visit was that Dr. Burkmar was charging me double visit bc I asked in regards of bump i had (which turned out to be a bug bite). In a physical exam when a Dr asks if you have any concerns you must state your concerns right? The other thing was a $60 fee from ear wax Dr removed as she checked my ears. Something in which, I never approved, there was no question about the service I just had it removed within a second she saw it with a disposable EAR PICK CURETTE.Most medical offices offer this procedure as a add on to an appt or an appt itself bc it obviously has its price but the provider will usually tell you that is a separate cost. 2 weeks passed, still no call from manager. I took it upon myself and called today, there was nothing she could do to resolve the issue. The manager stated they couldn't do anything with the charges bc that'd be considered fraud bc Dr did perform the codes. This wouldn't even be insurance fraud bc I am a self pay patient. At this point there should be set prices for self pay like elsewhere. They just want to grasp on as many "codes" as they can to charge you. There is always a solution to maintain your consumer happy and they don't have any of that. You will never win with them and are only wasting your breath to receive and apology and " we are working with the front staff to make sure everybody is aware of such charges from now on" . That doesn't help me whatsoever. I need a resolution for my issue not what you're doing to make your office better. I could've gone to collections w/o knowing of this bill bc its been a month and I still have not received a billing statement. DONT PROVIDE THEM WITH YOUR BUSINESS, ALL DR. BURKMAR WILL DO IS CHECK THROUGH THE CODE LIST FOR HER OWN BENEFIT. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I made a new patient appointment and had to wait 4 months. On the day of my appointment, I had all paperwork pre-filled out online. I arrived right before the 15 min grace period. I was told the doctor had to cancel my appointment because of this because has decided to take a half day. They then proceeded to tell me I needed to wait another 2 months to get in for an appointment. To make matters worst, their medical assistant Tanya came out barking at me like a pit bull, lecturing me about the situation. I would absolutely think twice if not three times before trusting this kind of establishment with my health. read more

It would be hard to overstate how unhappy I am with the care I received from Dr. Jennifer Burkmar at Primary Care of Brookhaven. First and foremost: I was charged $484 for what should have been a routine physical. I noticed a lump in my breast; since I was due for a physical anyways, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Burkmar. This visit ended up being billed as a diagnostic visit rather than as physical - meaning that instead of my usual $40 copay, I was stuck a bill for $200 out of pocket even after insurance (not including blood tests, which ran another $200 or so). When I pointed out this error, I was told that even if I'd booked a physical, the fact that I mentioned specific health concerns at my appointment (the breast lump, fatigue, and some other minor points of interest my medical history that I've always mentioned to primary care physicians without incident) "switched it to a diagnostic visit" - even though no diagnostic services were performed by Dr. Burkmar, just a referral to an imaging center for a mammogram. This price difference was never mentioned to me before, during, or after the appointment - just a surprise bill to my insurance and the subsequent large out-of-pocket charge. It's worth noting that my fiance - also a patient at Primary Care of Brookhaven - had an identical appointment a few weeks earlier (physical, blood tests, and a referral to a specialist) that was billed correctly as a physical. The only difference is that his complaint was a wrist issue instead of a breast issue. I don't know if I should assume a bias against women's health concerns here, or if the office is really just this inconsistent in their billing practices - but either way, it's an error that they were entirely unwilling to address. To add insult to injury, Dr. Burkmar noticed some abnormalities in my blood tests; I was told that she would check them against my previous blood tests and call me back. Two months later, I had to follow up on this myself (some "diagnostic" care). As a final bonus, the imaging center Dr. Burkmar referred me to for my mammogram (Northside) is one of the most expensive in the area, charging around $500 for a mammogram (a breast ultrasound, which I also ended up needing, was even more expensive). Fortunately I'd called ahead to check their prices - I was able to get the mammogram and ultrasound for around $150 each at a different facility. So, if you have the ill fortune to be getting your referral from Primary Care of Brookhaven - make sure you shop around. As someone who moves frequently, I've visited primary care physicians across several states and many cities large and small, and have never had such an overwhelmingly negative experience with a medical practice. read more

Total Scam, I was charged 2 times for the single visit. My insurance is covered for the Annual checkup, they sent a different bill from a 3rd part company called "Pathgroup Lab LLC" and asking me to pay the bill again and threatening me saying they are going to send it to collections. read more

Be warned this is a Northside institution which bills you through a second party billing service. In addition to my copay through insurance I have received no less than 4 paper bills in one month for what should have been a routine physical covered by insurance. Dr Burkmar was just mediocre. The doctor submitted 2 separate billing codes for the same visit because I asked questions about my test results from the previous visit, which should be covered as part of the follow-up. So even though the visit should have been covered 100% as my yearly physical, Dr. Burkmar's office submitted an addition billing code so that there would be a copay without notifying me. How is preventative care preventative if you aren't allowed to ask your doctor questions about the results from routine testing without being charged? In short, don't expect to get your "free" yearly checkup through affordable care insurance if you ask questions. Unless you want to pay more money, don't ask questions. read more

This place is very unprofessional, rude, slow and a total scam. They encourage you to get every test possible so that they can make money off of you even if your symptoms do not line up with the test you are getting done. Once I questioned the test the doctor disappeared and was stuck with a nurse that did not seem to know much about what was going on either. After taking the test the recommended I was told I was "done". Even though I came to this appointment to review OTHER test I had done weeks before but never even touched on them. Overall- do not waste your time. Find a doctor who is going to talk things out with you and not run out the door leaving you very confused and feeling like you are wasting your time. read more

He takes time to talk to you, answer questions, follows up, and has a fabulous bed-side manner. His staff has always been very nice and helpful as well. read more

The staff are completely incompetent. The medical assistants are clearly overworked and it shows in their flustered like behavior. Communications are vague and ambiguous. This type of environment is one that could very well breed medical assistants who are accident prone. BIG RED FLAG when choosing a place of care where your well-being may be at stake. I travel to Brookhaven from Woodstock to see Dr. Reznik since he moved from Marietta . He is a wonderful Dr. He is patient, kind, and thorough. I see others question the staff but The service I received was above average for most dr. office and he does not overbook his appointments leaving you sitting in the waiting room past your appointment time as long as you get there at least 15 min before your scheduled time. read more

Longtime patient of Courtney (Nikki) Taylor, PA, in Dr. Burkmar's former office. Ms. Taylor moved out of state and I followed Dr. Burkmar to this practice. I have an annual checkup in April with labs and medication reviews. They have rescheduled my appointments three times since April due to a medical emergency. The second time I was rescheduled I asked if I should find another doctor. The last and third time I was contacted to reschedule I explained I was going to run out of my medication, and I was told it would be no problem for them to call it in. I called last week for the refill and was told I had to be seen. I explained that I had been trying to be seen since April, suggested a teleconference, seeing the other doc in practice, whatever. They refused to help in any way, and as a result I've requested my records be sent to a new doctor. Don't bother with these people- they have no respect or regard for patients, no loyalty, concern or compassion, and apparently no plan if one of their doctors is out for indefinite periods of time. read more
