This was the worst experience I have ever had with a provider. I felt disrespected, belittled, judged by my age/race, and my health concerns were disregarded because of the health provider's (Karen Popp) bias. Karen ignored all my concerns I originally came for (a bump on my arm and dizziness after I eat) and attributed all the issues to being anxiety / depression. In my chart, I have a prescription for lexapro which was given by my therapist. Karen saw that and immediately ignored all my health symptoms and attributed everything I'm experiencing to anxiety. She asked inappropriate questions as to why I'm taking it and pushed until I told her I have childhood trauma. I asked her how this is relevant and she said "everything is related". To repeat... I came in because I have a bump on my arm and feel dizzy after eating. Karen then forcefully kept saying your dose of lexapro is too low, you're "obviously not well", "you need to be in therapy". To which I told her it's not appropriate for her to be saying these things and that I am in therapy. She asked how long I've been in therapy and I told her for about 5 years to which she said "you're obviously not better". Karen is not a therapist. Karen does not have training in mental health. It is extremely dangerous for a provider not trained in mental health to assert any information they are not trained in. My appointment was about an hour, but Karen only talked to me for 10 minutes and assumed I have depression/anxiety without any testing nor any credentials/education/license to provide that diagnosis. She added that diagnosis to my medical record without any testing and only 10 minutes of conversation where she pushed inappropriate conversations about my childhood. How is this relevant to the cyst I have on my arm? Additionally, she kept saying "you're a healthy young adult, there's nothing wrong with you". Is that how we want our healthcare to be? Wait until someone is very sick to be taken seriously by a provider? No testing was done to my arm, how can we assume nothing is wrong until we rule it out. I work in healthcare, and it is so concerning to me there are people like Karen Popp in this field. I will be filing a report on how poorly I was treated. And I urge Primary Medical to investigate Karen Popp. There was another client with a similar experience to mine I saw on Yelp. Please take action on this or I will be filing the complaint on Primary Medical as well. read more

Algra is the reason I will be avoiding this practice going forward. The care from other doctors and staff was decent, but seeing what Algra had to say from when I saw him instead of my normal doctor. Wow! During the appointment itself, I was extremely uncomfortable with his attitude. Distinct feeling that he was not listening and did not give a single shit. I dismissed that feeling. Upon reading his notes, seems like this guy is the exact type of male doctor that female patients want to strangle. I no longer feel the need to be polite. Didn't actually listen to the things I had to say, then wrote shit in his notes that implied I was lying about my experiences. Made sure to list obesity as a problem that I came in for and needed treatment for. Made sure to note that La Croix and Weight Watchers and exercise and food diaries are good. Oh wow doctor I had no idea! You're so brilliant thank you so so much. How much do I owe you for that golden nugget of wisdom? At that point in time I had been going to the gym regularly and had a personal trainer, I lost around 50 pounds in the months prior to my health falling apart. I came in for dizziness and pain in many locations. I have only gotten worse since then. I'm in physical therapy I am trying my best to take care of myself. I no longer go to my normal gym, the pain is too severe. I cannot walk around for more than an hour, and an hour will have me in bed for the entire next day. I don't blame Primary Medical for my declining health. I will, however, loudly complain about any doctor who is dismissive of what their patients experience and are concerned about. I'm going through medical hell (like a lot of patients) and this absolute git is writing notes about sparkling water. Algra should put on a red clown nose so people don't get confused and come to him looking for medical help. Dress for the job you want. I'm done, I'm fed up, I'm giving up on Primary Medical and have told my family to avoid them as well. Dr. Mounts has been lovely though and I am grateful to her for her help. read more

I had a very disappointing experience during my first visit, which closely mirrors what others have already mentioned in their reviews. From the moment I arrived, I felt uncomfortable and dismissed by the staff. After the nurse went over my medical history and asked me questions--as expected for a new patient--I began sharing my experiences. To my shock, she walked out of the room and immediately started laughing while speaking with someone (either another nurse or the doctor). Their doors are sliding glass and clearly not soundproof, so I could hear everything. If you're going to speak about a patient in such a way, the least you could do is wait until they've left. Unfortunately, things only got worse once the doctor came in. I had assumed, as this was a first-time visit, that I would have a basic physical or at least a more thorough consultation. Instead, he quickly ran through the same questions, made a comment that my previous doctor was "milking" my insurance, and didn't seem interested in listening to anything I had to say. I walked out feeling completely unheard, disrespected, and confused as to what I even paid for. Being new to the area, this was incredibly disappointing. If I had read the Yelp reviews beforehand, I would have chosen a different provider. I will not be returning and strongly urge others to consider different options before making an appointment here. read more

I went to 888 W Ventura Blvd, in Camarillo and had an appointment with Dr. Paul Algra. The front desk was helpful courteous and efficient. Dr. Algra on the other hand had a less than desirable bedside manner. First of all, I've never met a doctor who I haven't shook his hand when we first meet. Dr. Algra just seemed unfriendly. I am 59 years old and I have never had a doctor who made me feel stupid for asking health questions. Dr. Algra was curt and seemed frustrated with my questions about why I was there. My whole visit took 15 minutes and that was with sitting in the waiting room for five minutes. So it wasn't like I took up an hour of this man's time asking dumb questions. After asking maybe seven total questions, Dr. Algra put his head in his hand and said, "Well what do you want to do?" I opted for the nothing option since I was still unsure about the issue I went to see him about. I asked him about two other small issues and I got more of the same, like I was bothering him. At the end I asked if I could wash my hands since I had touched a private area and he looked at me and said, "I would hope you'd wash your hands." pointed at the restroom and walked away. I have no idea if he was having a bad day or he treats everyone that way. All I know is it was unprofessional. I'll never see that doctor again. I'm sure he will get paid from my insurance with no issues also. read more

After being released from the hospital and not even getting a diagnosis because they want to rush you out of there as soon as they can. They tell me to follow up with my primary physician. So I call my primary Physician which is Primary Medical. I tell them I was at the hospital, no diagnosis, I am in pain and they schedule me a week from tomorrow. 8 days?!?! No diagnosis and in pain and the receptionist who was trying to get me off the phone faster than the hospital could care less what was going on with me. They are requesting results from tests that I told them the hospital didn't do. And still 8 days from now they will tell me what is wrong with me for the past 5 days. So in total the problem I am dealing with will be 14 days from time of first symptom until I see my Primary Physician. FOURTEEN DAYS. Insurance is expensive. Doesn't cover what you need it to. Dr offices could give a flying (you know what) about when you come in because they will bill for everything they can instead of actually helping patients! This might be the last appt I schedule with Primary Medical. Sad. read more

Just entirely disappointing. Came in with a broken knee, they sent me home with nothing (not even as much as a cane or an advil) and a request that I go get an MRI. It took six phone calls and multiple long holds just to get them to write up notes and recommendations from the appointment. No care was prescribed, I went out and bought a crutches and a cane so I could get around, the doctor shares zero concern that I am unable to walk unaided. After 3 weeks of waiting for them to get their act together, called back in to get a status update. Was given a ton of excuses for why the team was unable to sort out and get an MRI appointment for me. Will be going to a real doctor's office in the future. These folks have zero interest in providing medical care to patients that come in. A disorganized mess. read more

Oh man.. it really takes a lot for me to leave a review as I am a busy girl. This was a horrible experience. Dr. Karen Popp really fooled me, in my initial meeting with her (they make you do an initial meeting before they schedule you for physical to extra waste your time) she was really sweet. Once I become a patient tho.... I had mentioned to her initially my extreme anxiety and PTSD surrounding medical issues which she acted so concerned about - she later told me to "push it down" and that she will not let "your issues dictate the way I do my job" when making me go through unnecessary testing (that was just more $$ and more anxiety) Mental health is just as important if not MORE important than physical health and can in fact- lead to many health issues. That has to be one of the most insensitive things I have ever heard a Doctor say. Never going back. I hope you are able to work on the way you empathize with your patients. Best of luck. read more

Dr Sue Houx is absolutely the best. So friendly and open. She always listens and addresses all concerns. I've been seeing her for over 2 years and can't imagine going anywhere else. Astrid had to give me a vaccine shot and I'm a big baby with needles, but she was awesome. I didn't feel a thing. I would definitely recommend Primary Medical and Dr Houx!!! read more

I would not go to Dr. Becky Wade...the worst doctor and service I have EVER received. The staff is rude, no one knows what they are doing. They speak Spanish to each other in front of you. I had an MRI and waited 10 days for the results. Then I was told Dr. Wade went on vacation (without letting me know why I was in so much pain). Then Dr. Jennings sent a diagnosis (through a receptionist) that was completely different from the diagnosis I received from Dr. Wade when she returned from vacation. I had an appointment scheduled which Dr. Wade left a message for me to cancel. Then I receive a text asking me to confirm?!?!. I also told Dr. Wade that the meds she prescribed were not working...she told me to keep taking them?!?!?! Very unprofessional office! They even tried to charge me $25 for MY records and said it would take 2 weeks before I received them in the mail. read more

Am a new patient of Dr. Becky Wade and I have only been in the office twice since early part of this year. Of all the doctor offices I have been, and I have changed several times, Dr. Wade's office is the best so far. Everybody in the office are so nice, accommodating and make me feel comfortable. Dr. Becky Wade is awesome. Of the 2 major issues I currently have, her assessments and recommendations fixed them. During my visits, I truly felt how she cares for her patients. Very disappointing and poor patient care. My 93 year old mother is recovering from hip replacement surgery. She is a patient of Primary Medical Group in Camarillo. I scheduled an appointment for a post-surgery checkup as she suffers from high blood pressure and needed a refill of pain medication to aid in her recovery. Shortly before the appointment I was informed by the office manager that Dr. Wade would not see her. This was not a cancellation and reschedule, it was an outright refusal. I was forced to take an appointment in the Ventura office 4 days later and 20 miles further from her home. I guess this is the state of medical care for the elderly today... read more
