After moving to this part of Atlanta recently, I was amazed at the cost/waitlist/class size of many daycares in the area. I "interviewed" several places and was starting to question whether or not I was going to find a place that I felt comfortable taking my kids to everyday. The Goddard School Austell is the same place my niece and nephew went 8 years ago and without question is the best! Mrs. Lauren was immediately warm and welcoming inviting us in to see this "family feel" preschool. She is always open for conversation, empathetic, real, transparent and a parent herself. She employs a staff that also models those qualities. If we have ever had a concern about our children (potty training, bottle weaning, tantrums etc)... they are all there to assist, work with us and ultimately foster love, patience, knowledge and kindness in our babies! They have a curriculum that is followed and emailed monthly. Daily reports are sent out over a phone app making it easy to check in on the kids each day. Healthy breakfasts and catered (healthy) lunches are provided each day, along with snacks in between. They have nice playgrounds that the kids love playing on when it is nice outside and a large open gym to run around in when it is raining or too cold to be outside, with a built in rock climbing wall, what?! Along with the day-to-day activities, they are always doing special things around the holidays for the kids/parents (Christmas program, Easter egg hunt, Valentines, etc). I honestly could go on and on about all the ways The Goddard School Austell is a phenomenal daycare... but most importantly, I don't have to question what type of care my little ones are getting. I know in my absence they are being loved, nurtured, comforted and allowed to grow, learn and explore in a warm and caring environment...every day. I understood that spray bottles may have been used outside to help cool children off in the summer, but what I saw concerned me enough that I asked administration for a meeting to better understand the policy and whether spray bottles were ever used for anything other than cooling off. When I spoke with Lauren, I did not feel my concern was received well. The conversation focused more on my wording and whether I was accusing the school of abuse than on giving me clarity about what I had seen. I left the conversation feeling that my concern as a parent had been met defensively rather than constructively. Because of that interaction, we withdrew our child that day. I had a positive impression of some parts of Goddard overall, but based on my experience with this specific location, I would not personally recommend it.

They have lesson plans that they follow and the children really are learning. They also include the parents in the academics as well as for get togethers and programs. While we were excited to have our kids join the Phoenix School based on the online reviews and…read morestate funded pre-K, we had no choice but to pull them out after just a few weeks. While most of the teachers seemed caring and capable, there was a toxic dynamic fueled by one particular teacher that is clearly condoned by the school's management. Virtually every time we observed this teacher we witnessed him barking orders at the kids and losing his cool. Aggressive, condescending, and authoritative. It appeared as if he was trying to force obedience through intimidation. Zero manners or etiquette used. Certainly not the kind of behavior we use at home or want modeled for our kids 40 hours per week. We gave it a little time as we all have bad days, but after multiple instances of observing this behavior we met with the school's Director to discuss the situation. We presented our concerns in a constructive, example based fashion and were met with nothing but defensiveness. No notes taken, no next steps, no anything. We were essentially told that many parents are supportive of this "no nonsense" approach and that it was more of a shtick than truly authoritative behavior. Sadly I don't believe three year olds have the capacity to precisely delineate between a shtick and someone being intimidating. At this point we had lost all confidence in the school and pulled our kids. An enormous inconvenience, but necessary. Even though we had made up our minds about leaving we felt obligated to discuss our experience to the board of the school. I asked the head of the board to call me to discuss everything three times and was repeatedly told that I had two options, come in and speak in person during their monthly meeting or put everything in writing. The director of the board later attempted to implicate that I was only voicing concerns because I wanted money back. This interaction certainly validated our decision to leave. Other miscellaneous concerns included: regular cockroach sightings, run down facilities, noncompliance to the mobile app (Kinderlime), processed food served from single-use packaging, and that we continued to receive app activity entires after leaving the school. We have since learned that there is a contingency of parents that have had a similar experience at Phoenix School. I'll again note that the majority of the people at Phoenix School seemed fine, but when it comes childcare, one weak link breaks the chain.

That spoke volumes to us when we were originally looking around because there was a lot more turnover in the last 2 preschools our kids were in. The facilities aren't the most up-to-date but the quality of care @ Phoenix more than makes up for it. There is also strong parent involvement which leads to a strong sense of community in the school.

BSKA bought the Montessori school our kids go to and it's immediately been a disaster. The prior…read moreowner notified us on July 4th, and then we received no information from the new owners for over a week. I just dropped my kids off to find that the usually pristine facility was just covered with filth on the floor. Like someone had just dumped dirt and trash around. A teacher was trying to clean it up, because apparently the owners had just left it that way over the weekend for the old teachers to deal with unexpectedly before the parents arrive. The new owners are rarely there and when you ask when they'll be there, you get this vague "we're here whenever we can!". When they are there, they skulk in this back room area where you can't see them but they can hear what you say to the prior staff. They're just... listening in but refusing to actually communicate. They're also changed things that didn't need changing to the point that it just seems like a power trip -- like no teachers have a chair where they can sit down for a second except one, hard, dining room style chair. The final straw was that there were plastic bags left around in the trash. They talk "safety safety safety" but are leaving dangerous choking hazards left around toddlers? Filth on the floor where babies are learning to crawl? This isn't even an issue of "I just don't like their non-montessori style." This isn't a safe place any more.

Called me everyday about nothing. Then once I had enough & decided to take them out she said she's going to make sure my kindergartener is held back because he stressed her out not because he cannot do the work but because he wouldn't sit down (he's 5) & do not give them outside time at all. Worst decision ever, Gods love is not in this building. I get a money hungry energy when I'm there. It gives "janky promoter" with the staff. I will have to homeschool them this summer to catch up because they didn't learn anything. Working on contacting the BOE to investigate this school.

I love the Christian foundation. The staff are very friendly, and typically informative. I've had a few hiccups here but nothing major. I love the cameras so that I can peek in on my child if and when desired. We also have access to the live school app which gives a detailed report about your child's activities throughout the day as well as their behavior. They are also performing arts based so the productions are something to look forward to as well. So far I've enjoyed my child's experience here. I'm looking forward to more face to face interactions and getting to know her teachers better!
