I'm also a regular blood donor and have birthed children and had surgeries. I'm very familiar with IVs and needles. And there are no issues with my veins. Never before has any medical professional NOT been able to hit my vein correctly. The nurse started by setting up and then flicking my arm repeatedly and excessively...I knew right then I was in trouble. ‍ She did not hit the vein correctly or even go in all the way. She stuck my husband twice and still couldn't get his going at all. The nurse had the Practitioner come in to try. We refused service and left at that point. The Nurse Practitioner was very polite and apologetic. However, no discount or apology is worth the hour we wasted, the unnecessary pain, and now the bruising on our arms all for no infusion too. All this to say, if a nurse is not confident in their abilities, it shows immediately when interacting with the patient. I thought on a busy Saturday, skilled staff would be available, especially to facilitate an IV which is likely the bulk of the business at this center. Clearly, I was incorrect. I'll definitely not go back. Suggestion to Management: Train and test your staff more. There is absolutely no reason why anyone not comfortable and skilled in bloodwork should be administering the IVs. No patient likes someone digging around in their arm and also giving ridiculous excuses at the same time.
