Great moderately fancy and elegant vibe. Very attentive and pleasant waitstaff. Solid 8.2/10 food.

Arriving at the restaurant, I thought it was very crowded, but inside were only a few people. The bar attached to the building was the focal point with a wings deal. The Restaurant is nice looking on the inside, a tad on the dark side. I sat at the bar, which is set with regular sit down chairs , the bar seats 4 and is situated in the middle of the restaurant, a salad bar is on the other side of the bar. My food was very good having a chicken sandwich with Bacon, the jalapeño cream corn was excellent. My complaint is that the bar is jammed full of drink items and makes the bar look very unkept even though it is clean. Service was excellent during my visit, I would recommend this restaurant.

Salad that could've come from a bag from Hy-Vee nothing special. At least it is fresh and it taste good

We came at late night, so we had to eat in the bar. The crowd was loud and obnoxious. Took forever to get our food.

The prime rib was incredibly delicious! The salad bar rocked. The decor is dated, but it felt very 'Iowa', too.

They have a varied menu and offer a lot of options. I'm a vegetarian, so steak wasn't part of my plans, but I did end up choosing the standard side for a steak, a fully loaded baked potato. I had hoped for an IPA, but they explained that they'd offered them in the past without much interest from their regulars. I ended up drinking a couple of Sam Adams, and that complemented my potato nicely. Everyone was very friendly and the prices were good. The menu items on Yelp were out of date, so I took photos of the present menu. I forgot to take a photo before I started mashing my potato...better late than never. I would definitely go back if I'm passing through again! They also have two pool tables and a dart board, if you like them.

Didn't seem overly excited that there were outside of the normal folks there, but we were greeted and served. The food was basic. Fried gizzards were ok as were the mozzarella sticks. Seemed like the oil needed to be changed. Nothing special about the nachos. The Tap Patty Melt was bland. The bread had a bit of an off taste from the griddle. Overall, it was food and wasn't completely horrible, just not great.

Remember how good that was at Unkie's? No. No I don't... Lol We were up there this weekend and it was a couple days before my 55th birthday and mom said... We should take Dan and Owen to Unkie's to my dad... I almost refused... Why ruin a good inside family joke? But I'm glad we went! Don't blink or you'll miss Thor! We arrived at about 430 PM on a Saturday. They open at 300 PM for drinks, seat for dinner at 430 PMish and take orders and start serving at 500PMish. It's seat yourself. The seating is a combination of booths and low top tables and chairs. There is also a small bar with seating at it as well... The place is old school. Mostly dark wood and a classic small town steakhouse vibe. Don't expect a five star atmosphere... The real magic is in the food and the customer service. Unkie's is cash only. They will take a local check. And there is an ATM on site. No card payments. Our server was fantastic. I think she is one of the owners... Took our drink orders first along with an appetizer. We ordered our entrees with her a few minutes later. She checked on us every now and then and our drinks never hit the bottom of the glass. My parents ordered the appetizer sampler (fried pepper rings, cauliflower, cheeseballs, jalapeño cheeseballs, mushrooms, pickles, and onion rings) that they shared with the table and they split a 10 oz fillet meal (medium) with sauteed mushrooms, a baked potato, and a side salad with ranch. Dad ordered three extra jumbo shrimp. The shrimp are $4.50 ea, but they are HUGE. The ranch that comes with the apps (or salad)... It's made in-house and is SO good! If you like ranch it's a must try here. My son ordered the 10 oz ribeye (medium) with fries and a side salad with french. I ordered the 10 oz fillet (medium-rare), the Jojo's potatoes (broasted potato wedges), three jumbo shrimp, and a side salad with blue cheese. We all ordered fountain drinks. All the meals came with Texas toast. Everything was cooked to perfection. Not one thing was not on point! The special the night we were there was two 5 oz lobster tails for $40 and there was a halibut special going on too. I glanced at the receipt. I think the total was $143 before tip... Dad was paying or I'd have been more attentive. Unkie's is a hidden gem of a small town steakhouse who certainly lived up to their reputation! Everything I'd heard was true. Is it worth an almost two hour drive from the Des Moines metro on a date night...? If you don't mind the drive... Yes. Yes it is! And it's most definitely worth the 7 1/2 mile drive from Goldfield to Thor...

Review of Unkie's Entertainment Restaurant & Lounge - Thor, Iowa…read more Unkie's is one of those small-town Iowa restaurants that feels like home the minute you walk in -- the kind of place where you can sit down, relax, and enjoy a good meal without any fuss. It's a real destination spot if you're from the area or just passing through north-central Iowa. I was there celebrating my birthday with my family, and we had a great evening. One thing to note -- they won't seat you until your whole party arrives, which keeps things moving smoothly for the staff and other guests. It's a busy place that draws folks from a wide area, and you can tell it's popular for good reason. The food was solid all around. I had the pork chop -- it was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. My wife ordered the chicken and said it was moist and well-seasoned. A few in our group went for steaks and steak-and-lobster combos. Most of the steaks are market-priced, and while they were just a touch overcooked, everyone agreed they had great flavor. Sides were a mixed bag -- my baked potato was a little overdone, and the hashbrowns leaned a bit greasy, but nothing that spoiled the meal. Between six adults and one child, with drinks, appetizers, entrées, desserts, and a couple of lobster add-ons, our total came out around $50 per person -- fair for the quality and portions. A quick heads-up for anyone planning a visit: Unkie's doesn't accept cards, so bring cash. They do have an ATM on-site if you forget, but it's easier to come prepared. All in all, Unkie's hits the mark for what it is -- a good, small-town Iowa restaurant serving hearty food in a friendly setting. It's one of the best we've found in the area, and we'll definitely be back to try their sandwiches next time

Could have taken her anywhere without leaving Apple Valley but she was insistent. After this visit, as always, we don't mind the drive! The reason for a young girl's insistence? The luscious house made desserts! We chose a number of specials. Mine was a shaved sirloin sandwich which was tender juicy and with a deep beef flavor reminiscent of grass fed beef. The beef, like many dishes here is locally sourced. The beef, as with many of the meat dishes here, was from Welcome Meats, in a neighboring town. No picture of my dish exists, as it didn't stick around long enough... The first photo is of a brunch favorite, the eggs Benedict, with made to order hollandaise sauce, and ham steak. The second photo is of a featured salad with local strawberries, cucumber, beets, golden tomato, gruyere cheese, and toasted hazelnut pieces, covered with a deftly poured drizzle of balsamic vinegar. The third photo says it all about this establishment. It's a small restaurant, but offers beer (including craft beers) a nice, and affordable wine selection that includes bubbly and sake. March 2027 Sioux City, Iowa…read more Very nice interior. Large bar in the front center that seemed to be popular with guests. A few tables wrapped around the bar. We took a table in the back of the restaurant. Simple table with black cloth napkins. No candle , no flower, just a small salt and pepper set with a few menus. The menu offers a variety from expensive seafood and steaks to sandwiches. I chose the seafood Mac and cheese. My husband had the pork chop with sweet potatoes and a side of grilled cauliflower. The other couple ordered Mediterranean pasta with shrimp instead of chicken which came with a slice of focaccia bread. His wife had the chicken margherita sandwich which came with sweet potato waffle fries. My husband said the pork chop was dry and overcooked. My seafood pasta was served warm. It looked like it sat under the heat lamp while other food was prepared. Oddly enough, my meal did not come with any bread. But the other pasta dish had focaccia bread and even the kids meal that had mac & cheese had a big chunk of bread as well. Was it an oversight? Also missing from my dish was the Panko crumbs that were to top the dish. None to be found! My pasta had really great flavor. A complaint is that every third bite I was pulling a shell out of my mouth. It's good to know that the seafood is fresh, but I should not have to bite around the shell of the seafood. Also, because it was served warm, it made it less than enjoyable. The Mediterranean pasta I was told was delicious and it looked so. A lot of sauce as well. The chicken sandwich was quite large. Although it was tough and not tasty. It came with a side of sweet potato fries, which came out after we started our meal. It was forgotten the first time around. Overall, I would give the ambience an eight. Service was good and it deserves a seven. The food however, which I think is very important when you go to dinner, would get a solid five. I think the flavor was good, but again, because the food was served cold, and the pork chop was overcooked. I would most definitely take points off.
