Best taverns and dogs in the U.S. friendly and speedy service. Can't beat the lakefront views.

We always stop at Bobs and onion rings and went there today and the taverns were tasteless and disappointing and no onion rings. Not sure what happened. Hope it goes back to their original recipe. read more

Only the great setting saved this very mediocre snack bar from a dreaded 1 star review. Difficult to understand how this place can be connected to a "70 year" business begun in nearby Le Mars, IA. Either things have changed significantly for the worse OR the locals aren't too demanding in the areas of hot dog excellence or the loose meat (known as a tavern regionally) arts. Don't even get me started on the poorktenderloin (spelling intentional) sandwich we tried as well. Suffice to say, like everything else we tried it was very lackluster. We are lunch there and the tavern has almost no meat on it. $5.25 for a bun with where there was more pickle than meat. We have been eating at Bobs for years and always loved it. The prices are high and the quality of food is down. It used to be an reasonable place to grab a hotdog or a tavern but not anymore. So disappointed after all these years. I think we are done with this place. read more

Good location. Decent prices. Basic food. Hits the spot. A bit nostalgic is at play but worth a visit if you're in the area.

The owner was very rude. Never coming here again. The customer service was horrible and the order was not right. Just rediculous.

Food is pretty good, the owners an asshole he yells at customers. Good spot but the sun shines right in your eyes in the evening.

I love Bob's because of the fast, friendly service, and Bob burger. They have soft drinks and/or and beer for the grownups. Their shake and ice cream menu are great too. A good spot to bring kids or sit outside with your pet with a good view of the lake! read more

Summer 2017: This place is now run by the original owner's kids. And service has seriously gone DOWN HILL. We used to look forward to going and enjoying the taverns and fish sandwiches every summer here. Today we went and it took almost 45 mins to get our food. My parents used to be there weekly until one day, my dad asked to have the tartar sauce on the fish sandwich on the side (since they put a lot on now), the new owner said "we'll have to charge you $0.50 for that." Then my dad asked "why would you charge me more for less sauce?" The owner said "well if you don't like the way we put on the sauce don't order the sandwich." Talk about great customer service right? Not coming back here again. read more

Bob's keeps things simple. The place is alway crowded. They move through the line swiftly. The Tavern is where they shine (their Version of a Maid Rite) I would say Bob's is superior. Really basic menu. Think concession stand. It's just good, unbeatable location. Plus they sell beer! read more

Wish I could give negative stars but I can't so where do I start. Terrible service slow as well. Severely overpriced they only fill drinks up halfway and I could have gotten better food off my kitchen floor. Also have not seen a worker over 13. read more

Great place to stop right near the lake. While the employees looked crazy young, they provided some of the best service I have ever received at most any restaurant out there. Closed circuit to them: Keep that up and it will serve you well in life. I had the hot dog with meat sauce, so simple and so good. My daughter had the chicken strips and loved them. Looked like good pieces of real chicken, no parts here. Great stuff! read more

Food was just okay and overpriced. When we arrived the cashier clearly didn't care about our business. We ordered 3 of the loose meat specials that were suppose to come with a drink and fries. When we got our order it was only the sandwiches and the drinks. When I went back up to ask about the fries they argued with me and tried to charge me another $5 on top of the already outrages price we already paid. If I could give them no stars I would do that. The manager advised me he was not giving the fries to me unless I paid more money for them. While outside another customer overheard them saying they overcharged me and rang it back up and put the difference into Their tip jar. Is getting the meal I paid for such a big deal? NO! Then the manager came outside and gave us a big smile and laughed. So if anyone wants to give the chubby kid running that place the middle finger for me I would greatly appreciate it.
