The prime rib was incredibly delicious! The salad bar rocked. The decor is dated, but it felt very 'Iowa', too.

My mom discovered this place in a super-saver last summer on our annual vacation to Lake Okoboji. By far, the most fabulous steaks and prime rib we've had in the Lakes area. Salad bar, which comes extra for a nominal fee, was AWESOME...they even had pickled herring on it which made myself, my dad and my husband happy. Service prompt, attentive and friendly. When I get asked why I have so much anger built up in me, I just answer its because of all the bullshit I have endured due to the color of my skin. Just last night I sat a whole hour inside a restaurant and walked out because I we didn't get any service, just ignored. I saw other people walking in after me and they would get severs coming to them giving the service and taking their orders. I wouldn't think this way, but given the fact that everyone other person other than my party were all white Caucasian people. There's no other reason that I can think of to why I was treated like that. From the minute my coworkers and I walked into the establishment until we walked out, I had this uncomfortable feeling that was telling me we were not welcome, not just by the staff but by the clients too. read more

I was extremely disappointed when I went here for my Birthday. I had the prime rib and my friend had a filet. Hers was great but I had to send my prime rib back twice (something I rarely do), our baked potatoes tasted like they werent cleaned properly and overcooked. I'm not sure if it was just an "off" night for the prime rib, but they have a long way to go to compete with top notch steak houses in the big city! Ate here for the first time last night. My husband ordered the prime rib which he said tasted good. I ordered the ribeye. It did not taste good at all. The outside of it was so charred I could hardly stand to eat it. I only ate about 4 or 5 bites before I just couldn't stomach anymore. The french fries were good, but I wanted mashed potatoes. We were told they don't have mashed potatoes on the weekends. Only later did we realize it was Wednesday night. Not sure what happened there. I was SO disappointed in the food. I will not order prime rib anywhere else because I know it will not compare to The Prime Rib in Spencer, Iowa. They also have a fantastic and fresh, homemade salad bar along with homemade soups. Great menu selection for any palette. They have multiple dinning options: a bar with TV's on the Silver Hammer side or a more private/romantic setting on The Prime Rib side. read more

would never go back. I went there by my self as my family was not in town. outside the sign said immediate seating. I told the girl just one person. she looked confused. then a guy who I figured was the owner came over and she said he is by himself and he told me I should go eat at a pub. I said I do not want to eat at a pub and then he said it would be a minimum of 25 minutes or more before I could get a table. best place in Spencer by far to get a good meal. Ate here on two back to back nights, one night was prime rib for me and my companion, the next night I had panfried Walleye. Both nights the food was cooked very well. Wait staff was very attentive and we never had to wait. The only bad thing I can say is I don't know if the salad bar is worth the extra money over a regular salad if you only go to it once. read more

Just driving through town and stumbled across this place, glad we decided to stop. The Prime Rib was one of the best we have EVER had ... the salad bar was just that, Salad. The staff was very friendly, the service was a little on the slow side and we had to flag down the waitress to ask for refills on our water, ketchup and our bill. Horrible service, thought I was at Dicks Last Resort in Vegas, which is known for abusing its customers. The literally did not have Prime Rib the night we were there, kind of surprising because their name is Prime Rib. Kind of too bad because I was hoping for a great local experience, instead what I got was terrible service, marginal food, warm beer and a swift kick out the door as soon as I was done eating.
