I've been to McAllen frequently in the past several years, but I had always been told that this place was "okay, but nothing special", so I avoided it as there are plenty of great options. This time, it was the first option that was recommended, which certainly got my attention. When I walked in, it was obvious that there is a renewal happening here - the restautant itself is getting quite a nice makeover, but while I love a nice ambiance, you can't eat the atmosphere. That said, I love the fact that even though there is lots of great energy in such a lovely space, I could still hear the people across the table. The true test of course is the food. I'd rather have a great meal in a dive bar than so-so food in an elegant room. The good news is that I did not have to choose. I don't know what the food was like before, but clearly what is happening on the plate has been elevated well above "okay, but nothing special". As usual when I travel, I dined with a group. While I very much enjoy the company of others, I also like being able to try taste more dishes, especially when I go somewhere for the first time. That allowed me to swoon over the hamachi crudo, crab cake (a favorite in general), lobster tail (very creative), the bacon mac & cheese, the king salmon, and the carrot cake (another favoriote). We came to Prime in McAllen planning to just have drinks, but the atmosphere was so inviting we couldn't resist ordering more. The cocktails were excellent, and what started as "just one round" quickly turned into sharing a delicious appetizer of chicharrón de rib eye, beautifully plated and full of flavor. We couldn't leave without trying the warm, golden cornbread dessert, and it did not disappoint: soft, sweet, and absolutely addictive. The ambience is elegant yet relaxed, making it easy to linger, and the service was top-notch--attentive, friendly, and perfectly timed. I attended the restaurant while on a business trip. I'm not normally one to write reviews, but Prime Steak & Seafood is the exception! The atmosphere was warmly inviting; the place was lit into a warm glow. I ordered the New York strip (medium rare, of course), and not only was the steak cooked exactly to my liking but it was beautifully presented. Christina, my server was fantastic! She was knowledgeable of the menu (especially about the cocktails and wines!) and was an intellecutal conversationalist, which definitely brought something unique to my experience. All in all, I would recommend Prime to locals and out-of-towners alike! read more

We came here after a long two weeks of family in town and a child's birthday to celebrate our anniversary/valentines day. The place is small and over crowded, there is no dress code, and the food is mediocre. My steak came burnt and the shrimp bisque was so hot it burned my lip. The server would just drop food and leave and disappeared with my drink after going to refill it for the rest of my meal. I would say there are way better places in the valley for the price and strongly do not recommend this place if you are looking for a nice intimate dinner with a loved one (actually I just don't reccomend it at all). read more

I ordered the 14oz Ribeye chicharrones.. which to me there was nothing chicharrón about them but they were 4 very well served tacos and the ribeye was cooked just right... as for the ambiance. If you're looking for a quiet and romantic place for a date. This is not it. I went on a Wednesday night and it was very loud and congested. I also made a reservation for our anniversary dinner date through the Yelp app and when we arrived they had no idea about our reservation and scrambled around to find us something. They ended up sitting us in some random huge and sticky table at the way back corner of the entire restaurant next to a party of 30. This may just not have been my day but it's something to consider especially for the price. Plates range from $30-50 and much more for specialty meats. He made an ugly face, and proceeded to ignore us all night, even charged us $3 for salsa we typically get everywhere for free. I don't think we will be coming back. The food was sub par. The pizza was not as great as I imagined it would be but I'll be fair the Branzino fish was excellent therefore receiving the extra star on this review. Also this was our one year wedding anniversary, I wish we would have chosen another restaurant. I'd recommend The Patio on Guerra for such meaningful occasions, they really make a thoughtful impression on dessert, with a card, and with wonderful staff. read more

This is a 5 star place. It's a top 7 place over all in the valley, hands down. It's not even close. It's expensive, but to me, it was worth every penny. Excellent service. We have Phillipe. He was new but you can tell was trained very well. Shout out to him. The steaks were incredible, the ahi tuna app was outstanding and LET ME TELL YOU, I think they make the best pizza in the valley. Frankly I don't think it's close. Got to speak to the man who makes the pizza. Guy knows freaking pizza. I was stunned. They should rename it prime seafood and steak and AMAZING pizza. My Birthday Dinner. What was supposed to be a great dinner with my family turned into the Absolute worst experience in my entire life at Prime Steakhouse. Super embarrassing and uncomfortable. We went through 3 waiters. First one refused to wait on us because my parents spoke Spanish, second one tried to convince us that Dos Equis needed to be ordered as "Two Ex" beer and then when my steak was dry and overcooked the owner came to tell us "fine steak is supposed to be dry". Things must not be going well from a $$$ perspective or owner has disregarded good customer service. We have been coming for years. We have always enjoyed coming. But now things have changed. No more complimentary bread which is very good bread. No more free refills on my drinks (nonalcoholic) and now they have a ridiculous "Cake Fee". We went with a large group to celebrate my wife's birthday. They didn't cut or serve the cake but charged me $20 for a cale fee because I brought a cake. I asked, what exactly did you do to charge me this fee? Waiter couldn't answer. Not sure if I will ever come back. The restaurant was busy last night and unfortunately the service was mediocre and the wait to get our food and the temperatures of the dishes as they came out were cold. You can tell that the food was not delivered to the table right away. From the sticky table to the lack of napkin and having to wait to eat our appetizer since no place settings immediately available. The scallops were undercooked & cold. The salad was ok and the Bone in Filet was decent but the Prime Ribeye came out cold along with the Au-poivre sauce was starchy and cold. The server did not really check in on us if we needed anything or if we needed more wine. If you were to server they pretend they do not see you. If you are paying over $360 for a meal not even offered a dessert menu & getting the check & box for left overs took another 20 min. They've definitely lost it. Used to be a semper fi place for good food and drinks, fairly decent service. This time they struck out threefold. I ordered a vodka tonic. The tonic was flat and the drink tasted like tap water on old bottles ice. Returned it. Waiter apologized. Change it to a sparkling lemonade. Sparkling was more like stagnant water. Horrible. Returned it. Waiter again apologized. Said they had issues with the carbonated drinks. Played it safe and ordered a bottled Topo Chico. By this time my husband received his "medium" steak and baked potato. He cut through over an inch into the meat and medium was now where to be found. Overcooked through and through. Returned it. No exchange. He'll eat the baked potato. Surprise. Baked potato was dry and burned and not edible unless you have a penchant for really bad food. The waiter, poor guy, did what he could. We expected the manager by then to show his/her regret and apologize. Offer a complimentary drink maybe. We would be less disappointed if some measure of regret or accountability was shown. After all this is, or was, one of the nicer places in McA. We've been going since they first opened their doors. Disappointing to say the least. Great food and great ambience for the area. We ordered the margherita pizza as an appetizer. I don't know what kind of dough they use for the pizza, but it was so soft and buttery that I could not stop eating it! The lobster bake pasta was perfectly creamy (and also a big portion)! Customer service and caring for concerns is negative 1! Management does not care to respond to my request. After a month of no response...I am writing this VERY NEGATIVE REVIEW. I hardly ever write negative reviews with hundreds of reviews to my credit. Over 6 million views. On a recent trip to South Texas I took some friends out to eat. They wanted to go to Prime Steak and Seafood to try it out. While telling us about the special, which included Wagyu Beef my guests ordered steak and lobster. The server inadvertently ordered the Wagyu beef...and lobster. I believe this was an honest mistake. When I got the bill I choked, seeing their order included $180 for the beef alone. But since they were my guests I choose to pay and call them for a fair resolution after the meal. I did. At that time I was told the charge was accurate and I explained the error and how it happened. I got no response from the manager or owner. I called again and finally got hold of Jackie, whom I think is the head of house manager, on 2/28. I never heard back and called again a number of times until finally reaching her again on 3/23. I told her I did not expect the charge to be removed, but lowered. I requested $100 off of our $352 bill (no alcohol in this order). Again she said she would tell the owners and I asked for them to call me back within 2 days. That was 5 days ago. I am so frustrated that the owners show such little care for their customers. Certainly the money is important, but at this point it is a matter of principle. I need the owners to call me and work out a "fair" resolution to this charge. If you read this review and care about fairness please pass on eating here. Amazing! Absolutely the best steak I've had in the Valley! The chef's spinalis cut steak is incredibly tender, juicy and filled with flavor! An added a side of the flash fried spinach wh was also mouth watering. Delicious! Beautiful, modern, and trendy environment with excellent service. This is the second time my wife and I have visited this restaurant and both times were extremely pleasant. The staff is extremely courteous and efficient. Whenever we need anything seems like they are always ready to accommodate. We ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer which was excellent but a little more than we could finish just us two. (This was not a bad thing just letting others know about the quantity). The one thing which loses them a star in my review is the ribeye steak I had. It ended up being a little over cooked and had a few tough parts I had to cut around. The mashed potatoes however were exquisite and I would order both again. I just recommend ordering one less "doneness" than you are looking for. I also wanted to shine a positive light on our fantastic server Victor. He was very nice when we accidentally knocked over a drink and gave us another free of charge which I did not expect. I recommend this location for a date night or just a nice night out. read more

Bread and butter is $4 (not free lol) and it was good but we just didn't know there was a charge for that little puffed bread. I waited 2 yrs to go to the prime steak house, and what a disappointment. The occasion was my husbands birthday. Nothing on the table indicated the event. I had the Wellington, and my husband has the rack of lamb. All was good except the hard green beans that the dull steak knives barely could cut through. The glass of wine was $20.00, and my husbands asked for an amber rum and coke, and they only carry white and dark. No bread to start with, no small salad to be included to the $45.00 dish. Yes there was dessert, but we passed and usually for an occasion you will get some small dessert for the birthday person. We usually go to the Patio, and we will certainly continue, as the food is as good if not better, you get treated a lot more special and you do get bread, and a salad with your meals. The service was ok, even tho our waiter didn't know much about the rum selection, and we tipped the 20% only because it's not the waiters fault.
