So I called for an appointment and was told she could see me on August 18 (today is July 2). I have prescriptions that have to be monitored and maintained, and I also have a very painful issues with my arm. I don't think either can wait for August 18. They are two separate appointments and they won't combine them: one is "to establish care" and the other is an illness visit. Once I see her as a "wellness visit" on August 18, I would be able to "get in quicker" to see her in the future. For now, if I'd like to be seen and monitored by "someone else" who has more availability in their schedule I could do that. Well, I've had a terrible experience with a doctor in Chicago that left me with ongoing medical issues that could have been prevented. So I did my research and selected someone I felt I could trust. I was so very lucky to have that in New Orleans (from where I just moved) and I just wanted that again. I don't really want to see "someone else" that I don't know anything about and waiting 6+ weeks to see a doctor I researched heavily. So while I can't really rate Dr. Boyd herself, this is a warning to those who are looking for a doctor: even though her site says she is accepting new patients, I don't think she really has time for them. Be sure you can wait six weeks before seeing her if you choose her. I get why she's busy -- she's good. But why advertise that you're accepting new patients when you really don't have time for someone who needs you?

Truth be told, I prefer younger, female, Family Docs (as opposed to Internal Medicine) - just as personal preference - but she's absolutely lovely. Kind. Attentive. Concerned. All the things you want in a GP. Oh - and one last thing: At my previous practice, there would be a HUGE wait - I mean, HOURS. (But heaven forbid you be more than 10 minutes late...they would cancel your appointment.) Not so with Dr. Boyd. I never feel rushed, either. She's genuinely a good MD. Seriously.

I wish I could give NO stars... Mind you, this review is only of this particular doctors bedside…read moremanner. I've seen other physicians in this practice that are wonderful to work with. Our 4 month old daughter started crying hysterically out of nowhere. We tried all our usual tactics trying to calm her down and her crying just got more and more intense. It lasted far longer than normal and was a cry that sounded like nothing we've heard before..at least not for that long. So we had the Dr on call paged. Dr Martinez calls us back asking what the emergency was. I explained what was going on, said she didn't have a fever, she's not dirty, shouldn't be hungry (& wouldn't eat when we tried)...etc. He asks me why I'm having him paged for crying. .......I said sorry to disturb you, but we were told if baby cries for prolonged amount of time and/or you do not recognize this particular cry we should call the doctor. He said he didn't know who told us such thing, but you don't call for crying baby. To call back of she has fever, vomiting...blah, blah, blah. I said, yes well I wouldn't call for just a cry, we were concerned..thanks anyway and hung up. This is the same doctor we've had issues with before making us wait an hour or more for our appointment to begin after the appointed time. Unfortunately for us, he was the doctor on call tonight. I'll be looking into a whole different practice at this point. I love the doctor in the practice we were going to continue with but if we have to deal with this when he's on call, it's not worth it. We will never step foot back into this practice thanks to him. It only takes one bad egg to ruin someone's overall experience.

He insisted that I came personally (knowing it would be a hardship for his patient). That said, the reason there is a wait is because he takes the time to answer your questions and address all your concerns, not just the ones that he thinks are important. Great person as well, something to be said for that in this day and age. He saved my life because of his attention to my bloodwork. I went in at 10:30am and he called me at 1:30 to tell me to get to a hospital ASAP (oops, STAT!). I will continue to recommend him!

One time she actually saved my life by ordering a chest scan which I didn't understand why because I wasn't coughing or having congestion (I was just really tired and had chills) thank god I listened to her because I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. Appointments are handled fast and her check in staff are super friendly. In a world of bad doctors she's one of the good ones. You'll be safe in her care.
