Short, sweet, and honest review of Primo's on Rural. I'm staying in the area and wanted to try a new spot. Ordered the chicken parm dinner which was good for its price. Kids cheese ravioli, meatballs, sausage, and a small pizza finished the order. All the dinners were decent but nothing to wow about. The pizza was really good. Crust was crispy and flavorful, sauce was sweet. The best part was the red onions and mushrooms were fresh. All in all a good Rockford pie and a solid pickup joint. I had very low expectations for this establishment also it was 8:00PM when I picked up my order. I got the mild wings with a lasagna. Opening the wings in a styrofoam container I was hesitant. The wings looked slightly over moist but biting into them it was slightly crunchy, the chicken was completely cooked but not dry at any point. The sauce was evenly spread and not overbearing 8.2/10. The lasagna was well put together. The pasta was baked perfectly, the sauce was thick and penetrated the dish evenly. The cheese was melted so thick on top and separated easily when cut. The lasagna was layered so perfectly I am throughly impressed. You could tell these people take pride in their pastas 9.2/10. I will be coming back to give these guys my business. read more

We have ordered from Primo's several times in the past few months & enjoyed the food. After last night's awful experience, we probably won't go back there, even though the food is often excellent. Last night my husband ordered a pizza as well as a lasagna dinner at 5:45 pm. He was told that we were in luck, one portion of lasagna left & to pick up pizza and lasagna dinner at 6:30. He got there right at 6:30 & was told that they were out of lasagna [must have given our piece to someone else?] and that we would get lasagna from the pan in the oven. Well, the "few minute" wait turned into a 45 MINUTE WAIT. Our order was NOT READY UNTIL 7:15. My husband had to stand there and wait all that time. He asked if pizza sat all that time & was told no. When he got home at 7:30, discovered an HOUR OLD pizza - it was brown & dried out on the top, disgusting looking, clearly OLD. Primo's didn't offer an apology nor any kind of discount for making him wait 45 minutes, and they clearly did not tell the truth about giving us an OLD pizza. Please, people, don't go there for rotten service & old food! P.S. My lasagna with salad was excellent, but certainly did not make up for the rotten service and the old pizza. read more

I'm picky when it comes to Italian restaurants; disheartened by so many that put little effort into their sauces and use of fake cheese (fake cheese?!!). Lasagna is first on my list of things to try at a new (to me) place. This place ended my search for fantastic lasagna in Rockford~this is The One! The sauce is fantastic, tastes like several cheeses and it's baked right in the aluminum to-go container. And it's huge! Delish AND very reasonable priced! SCORE! I'm also picky about house salads. So many places don't give a crap~they tear up iceberg lettuce (ugh... Zero appeal in my book, not to mention zero nutritional-value), throw on some unripened tomatoes and carrots. But when you open the Primo's salad container, ciao bella! The colors instantly delight! Beautiful, fresh garden greens, scrumptious ripened tomatoes that taste like they were just picked, and whatever else is in there, it's going to be enjoyed, even if by itself! Next, the pizza test. This, from a male companion, who is also a self-described pizza critic, won him over and I, too, thought it was very good! Again with the sauce and cheese~Primo!! Thanks Primo's! To look at this place from the outside you'd think it was either out of business or a front for something other than Pizza, but walk in and you'll find a cosy (if a little tired) restaurant. We went in at a kinda odd time, mid-afternoon, and were greeted by old Italian dude with pizza dough on his hands; this is definitely a Mom and Pop run place. Shortly after we had sat down what we presume must have been his wife arrived and turned on the restaurant lights and made us feel at home. We ordered a large deepan pizza and it was fantastic. This is serious, thick deep pan pizza with gooey cheese, a deep rich tomato base and delicious hunks of ground beef with slices of pepperoni. Truly excellent pizza. read more

We got delivery for Mother's Day. It was delivered within 45 minutes and was fairly Hot. Not steaming hot but warm. The pizza was very good. High quality ingredients and plenty of them! I had the nightly special, ravioli with meat and a salad. It was good, and the portion size was good. My mother in law got the chicken parm alfredo. It was good, but not what i was expecting. I've lived in this neighborhood for 2 years, and only last weekend tried Primo's. It's phenomenal. A nice crispy yet chewy crust, thin but not too thin. Sauce is a great combination of flavor and zest with a hint of sweetness. It just may be the best pizza ever. Haven't tried their other food, and the restaurant is small for actual dining, but it's that nice neighborhood place atmosphere that we're all probably familiar with. read more

Just had a bunch of food delivered from primos and was the best ever. Huge portions good presentation tasty and still very hot when it got here. Even the bread was soft and warm. Very impressed! We had the meat ravioli (sauce was amazing) veal Parmesan spaghetti and antipasto salad. It even came with two salads and two big bread loafs. They were kind enough to put in Parmesan cheese and butter without even asking. Usually most places charge extra and even forget to bring it. Will definitely be ordering from here again! I live a few blocks from Primo's, and they are my go-to restaurant when I get home from work too late to cook anything. Their veggie pizza is delicious, and they'll make it with whole wheat crust for $1 extra! Delicious sauce, fresh veggies, plenty of cheese. Great local pizza place. We live close and is our go to for Friday night movie nights. Cheese on the pizza is great and they always have great specials (even though we usually only get pizza and garlic bread or wings). I called for delivery. The woman who answered the phone did not know where my address was, so she put me on hold to verify the delivery area. Then she announced that yes, they were able to deliver to my address. She then handed me off to a guy who took my order. He wondered if I would be paying with cash or a card. He gave me my total, took my card number, and said it would be about 40 minutes. 80 minutes later the same woman called me to tell me my pizza was waiting there and that they cannot deliver without a name and phone number and address. I said, "No one asked me for that information." She said, "Okay darling." WHAT? "We need that information or else we cannot deliver your pizza." (Which I'm sure has been hanging out for a while now.) I said again, "NO ONE ASKED ME for that information when I spoke to you on the phone." She said, "Okay darling." WHAT THE WHAT. I told her I would like the charge taken off my card, and she said....you guessed it. "Okay darling." I am not your darling. But I am still starving and that pizza was probably going to be good. Five star rating. Not necessarily for the pizza (I am from the Chicago area and nothing is better than true Chicago pizza). Primos Pizza is about a 3.5 out of five. My five star rating is based on customer care. When I go to my mother's house in Rockford I always order Primos pizza. I ordered a pizza and salads for pick up. Upon my return to my mothers house we noticed we did not receive our salad dressing (creamy garlic which is truly outstanding at Primos). I called and told the owner that we did not receive the creamy garlic dressing and he delivered it to the house within 10 minutes. Outstanding customer service! First time we tried Primos and we were pleasantly surprised. While the restaurant is nothing special and I am not sure I would go there for a nice dinner out with my wife, the food we ordered for pickup was outstanding. The chicken breast sandwich was a large (homemade?) bun with a perfectly cooked nice juicy chicken breast. We will definitely order that again! My mastacholi ala primo were also a nice treat. Spicy but not too hot, a great sauce with tons of taste, plenty of sausage over a mountain of mastacholi. We will definitely be back for more. Only thing not perfect on our meal was the salad, it could have used a little more variety than just lettuce and tomatoe. A few slices of cucumber, some slivers of carrot would have been appreciated. read more

Ordered a small pan pizza with a side salad and cheese garlic bread. My pizza was very good like I had hoped it would be except for the fact that I asked for light jalapenos and got a lot it was tasy the crust was a highlight! My salad was a little tasteless only lettuce and tomato ranch was a little bland as well didn't like that they delivered the dressing already on the salad instead of on the side.
