Gullotta's is a little walk in/take out pizza joint(cash only). I've driven past it a million times. We tried it a few weeks ago for the first time and my husband and son swear that this is the best pizza in town!! We went back again last night and had the same results! First time I had the Italian beef and it was flavorful and juicy but the bread... it was crusty and flaky on the outside and fluffy yet dense on the inside. The absolute perfect bread for a juicy sandwich. We also had the lasagna(which I believe is only available on the weekends) and it was fantastic as well. His Grandma's sauce is splendid('Mamma Gulotta's' sold at Woodman's). To top it all off, Nick Gulotta; the owner, chef, order taker, carry out worker(he does it all himself!!!), is just about the nicest person I have ever met. I know some very kind/caring people, but Nick takes the cake. I just can't believe how long it's taken us to try it but am so glad we finally did! Thank you, Nick!! Lightest pizza crust I've ever found, good pizza and garlic bread. Had a good time chatting with Nick, while my order finished up.

The owner Nicky couldn't be nice enough. And love the heritage he carries on from his Italian parents. The pizza was really great, different than other Rockford pizzas, special in it's own way. Nicky painstakingly pays attention and takes care for every pizza he makes. And you can tell the dough takes days to make, as well as the sugo. This hole in the wall pizzeria is a find, a true find. We pulled into the parking lot on our motorcycle at 9:43 one Saturday evening. As we walked to the front door, the rear door was wide open to help cool the extremely warm kitchen. Standing there was a silhouette of a man. We were wondering if they were open since we did not call ahead, but the hours stated open until Ten. To our surprise, the front door was locked, but then the gentleman of Zah Heaven opens the door and said how may I help you. Even though he started to call it quits after an unbelievably long day and evening at work, he open the door, turned on the lights, took our order and is making our pizza! I don't remember when Gulotta's pizza opened, but I know it changed my world. My family lived about one block away and we rarely ate pizza, not being Italian. I knocked on the door one afternoon and Mr. Gulotta subscribed to the RR star, so I delivered it every morning, and soon my family was ordering pizza from Gulotta's. Well, that was a real treat! We loved the pies and ordered them regularly. It was a staple for us and anyone who visited our house got to experience Gulotta's pizza. And everyone loved it! For years....decades...I loved it when Nick's mom helped with the pizza making and taking orders. The food is always spot on. We ordered Gulotta's pizza for almost every holiday. I have been coming here for 40 years and it still taste as remarkable as it was when I was 5. Every A I got a Gulotta's pizza and he made a bunch of pizzas for me.. My analysis is 9.9.... 10 on the crust, it is made with a special recipe with sweet dough that has a solid crunch all around 10 on the sauce, the keystone of the pizza... tastes as fresh as can be, to include the fact he does not skinch on the sauce, which also has a sweet taste - 9.9 on the cheese, he makes his own blend that completely makes the pizza In the end, I have had pizza all over the world . Decided to try Gulotta's based on all the reviews I found online. Overall I was satisfied with the place. The pizza itself was 3.5 but the people who run this place are genuine and I like that so definitelya 4 star review. Price was fair and my only 2 complaints would be the sausage was not how I prefer, big and chunky, and more like finely ground. Second would be the firmness of the crust. I wish it was a little more crispy. I will try this place again in the future and ask for extra sausage and well done. read more

I'm pretty particular about my pizza. I remember the big deep dish pizzas you waited for hours for in cramped little Chicago restaurants. I honestly have lived here my entire life and my husband and friends all raved about Gulotta's but I have never tried it, mostly due to my work schedule, etc. Tonight I just called and ordered. From the "Hello", Nick was so friendly and asked if I had ever ordered before, we chatted, I ordered, I came a little early. He is a one man show, prepares all day and fills orders at night. my pizza was amazing and hot and fresh and doesn't taste like any pizza I've ever had and that's kind of awesome. The waiting area is clean and bigger than I thought it would be. You can chat with Nick while he's preparing your food. The price was very reasonable and he even opened the door to make sure I got safely to my car. Food is only one part of the reason I give repeat business. I appreciate kindness and friendly service. This very well may be the best pizza I've ever had in my life, and I am a pizza connoisseur !! It was so good, that I noticed myself involuntarily moaning and groaning with pleasure, as I was eating it, and even once I realized that I was sitting at the dinner table, sounding like a phone sex operator, I was still powerless to stop! I don't even smoke, but I feel like I need a cigarette, and not even an "after dinner " cigarette, but more like an "after sex" cigarette. I'm not exaggerating, Gulotta's pizza is THAT good!! Thought we would try this pizza after all the great reviews and we were very disappointed. The pizza reminded my family of a frozen pizza. The sausage was similar to ground beef, the cheese had a yellow color to it and didn't stretch like mozzarella. The flavors just weren't there. I am full-blooded Italian/Sicilian. My great uncle INTRODUCED pizza to Rockford in the 1940s. Accordingly, I know my pizza! Tried this pizza for the first time AND IT IS FABULOUS! THE BEST! Nick makes his own sausage, the crust MELTS in your mouth, and the sauce is so flavorful. In fact, he sells his great grandmother's sauce in grocery stores here. I LOVE pizza from Capri, Deli Italia and Gerry's, but I have to say that Nick beats them ALL - and that's saying something because we have GREAT pizza and many Italians in Rockford and those establishments are fabulous. His pizza reminds me of the great food we had in the Italian neighborhood of south Rockford years ago...it is very authentic. TRY IT! read more

I've been coming to Nick and his mom for pizza for as long as I remember - at least since I was five years old, probably earlier. They've obviously been doing this for awhile. The pizza hasn't changed at all. Still fantastic; best pizza in town. Would absolutely recommend to anybody and everybody (and frequently do!). Beware if you order early in the week their shipment of toppings, etc. might not have come in from Chicago yet, so you might be disappointed if you're a mushroom/black olive lover like myself. Also beware that they don't take credit cards. If you get there before your pizza's ready you can peek in the little window to the back and say hi to Nick's mom, or look around at all the business cards and drawings kids have left behind. read more

This is my favorite place for pizza in Rockford. It's a little building on 11th street, takeout only, so you call ahead and go pick it up. It's the platonic idea of pizza in my opinion. The topping are traditional and delicious, the cheese is oily and plentiful, and the crust is just right. And of course it's sliced into squares.
