Your average apartment complex for middle-class folks living in central Jersey! I've lived in this…read morecomplex for two years and am about to sign another lease. Like most apartments, this place has its positives and negatives, which is why my rating is right in the middle.
The application process is painless and the woman who helped us out was great. She made the process quick and easy and explained everything well for us!
There are only two maintenance workers for the entire complex and this is a huge issue. You can't expect two people to keep so many apartments running smoothly. There are outside workers who do help from time to time, but only in emergency situations. Within our first week of living here, we told the office that our bathtub was completely rusted and that the paint was coming off. (Yes, they had simply painted over the rust in hopes of hiding it, as though the water wouldn't simply wash it away!) Two years later and it still hasn't been fixed, yet the rent is going up this year.
When it snows, it takes DAYS for the plowers to come. This year, my neighbor had his friend who owns a tractor come to the complex and plow our parking area as well as some spots by our building so we could get out of the snow. Another one of our neighbors spoke with the office and told them that we needed a plower and the person with whom she spoke simply told her we'd have to wait because it was a storm, even though it had already been two days. This is bad for someone like me who is pregnant and can't shovel my car out.
In the summer, there are wasp and bee nests outside our windows and in the attic. The wasps come in through the wall vent in the kitchen, as well as through the window if you leave it open. We have also had ants (I got rid of them in a week), some type of water bugs as well as centipedes (came out of the walls and died right away), and bed bugs (came up from the downstairs apartment, but the landlord took care of it right away!). We have an EXTREMELY clean apartment. Unfortunately, with apartments, if you have a messy neighbor you may sometimes suffer the bug consequences. As far as the wasps go, I had to cover the kitchen vent and keep our windows closed constantly.
Parking is atrocious here. One spot is permitted per apartment. Finding street parking is hellish, especially on Sundays! There's not much they can do about it. The complex has already been built and the number of spots can't change, unfortunately.
You can do laundry on-site, but there are no units in the apartments themselves. No dishwasher. No microwave. HUGE living rooms (for my apartment standards). Our entire bathroom is rusted and gets moldy because there is no vent. You have to have the window open. But that won't get rid of any rust the previous tenants left behind.
I've never had any noise complaints. Lots of families here!
It's expensive to live in New Jersey. In Arizona, this two bedroom apartment would cost me 800 a month. In New Jersey, you pay 1500 for that same mediocre apartment. It's nice to live somewhere that isn't roach infested though, or filled with late night noises and small closets.
Overall, I'd compare this complex to better than a motel, worse than a hotel. It's kind of in the middle. It's a great place to live while you save to own a place, or if you are building your credit. It's a great place to live if you just can't afford a luxury apartment in New Jersey because, let's face it, most of us can't!
