Stay here! It's not a Holiday Inn but it is breath taking beautiful Victorian style hotel built in 1898. The staff are great. Although I have never stayed here I am here quite often, downstairs at the bar! They have recently had a change in bar management but before that were offering great live music. The atmosphere in the bar is very different. It is dark but romantic. They only serve beer and wine. So be warned. I have had plenty of tours around and inside the place. Not only does it have the rooms inside the Inn but it owns the stables next door that they have turned into Texas themed rooms, a huge room on the back at was formerly their stables and a little house like room that a family can stay in. It is always clean and inviting. I have spoken to many who have stayed here and they love it! I recommend it to all visiting NB. Stay here! You won't be disappointed. read more

Stayed here for a couples getaway for Labor Day weekend. Very beautiful place and the experience was good but a few things in total kept it from being great. Pros: Great location, Friendly staff, cozy and keyless entry rooms. The muck and fuss was a great bonus- This place is AMAZING! Great food and strong drinks! The speak easy was nice but I never visited downstairs since we could hear the music from our room. Very laid back and almost relaxing. Cons: Greeting: We were greeted by a huge but super friendly dog ( I have allergies to pet dander and wish I'd known this beforehand) not a true con because I had no issues with my allergies while there and the dog never seemed to wandered past the front entrance. Just was let expecting it as all. Room: There was rug that did not lie flat and we tripped every time we left out the bathroom. The tv froze a lot so we did not use it much. Minor and annoying but we were prepared to overlook. Parking: Parking was tough because the lot is small and shared with the restaurant. Once the restaurant closed, parking was plentiful but who wants to move from street parking to the lot after 11pm.- The host gave us helpful parking tips but would have been great to know in advance. Minor but prepared to overlook. Noise: As expected from the website and the reviews was the music from the speak easy which we enjoyed. What we did not expect were kids and crying babies in the room next to our. We were awakened every morning at 8am by kids crying or banging on the wall or running down the hall. This is where the experience declined for us. Now I have kids and loves kids but we picked this place because the website says no children allowed and we wanted an adults getaway after spending the prior weekend on a kids trip. We wanted to speak up and let someone know but it was a chore finding someone that we figured it is easier to leave our feedback here. Overall: We will come back again but we will ask to make sure that we are not next to kids. read more

Well, five of us bff's jetted out of town for one last summer river adventure and chanced upon this COMPLETE and TOTAL gem of a place. The Prince Solms Inn hails itself as the oldest Inn still operating in Texas. They have several rooms in the main building, and three spacious rooms in a detached building they call The Feed Store - the five of us stayed there in a charming rustic Texas room with a king sized bed and a loft. Nice and roomy, even for five! It's a nice walk from shopping and the New Braunfels town square, and river playtime is only a hop and a skip away. Also, the Uptown Piano Bar in the hotel basement is NOT TO BE MISSED - seriously - I could call this place home. We went and bought a bunch of wine and drank til the wee hours in the beautiful courtyard just outside our room, which is surrounded in ivy and little twinkling white lights. Absolutely unforgettable and completely recommended. read more

Ok. First there's Al. He's the friendly Inn keeper. Very knowledgeable and helpful. The place could get 5 stars for him alone. You could tell he loves his Inn and community. Our room was what you'd expect from a building built in 1800's except for the fact that the water pressure in the bathroom was amazing. Sure the bathroom was small, but once again it's an 1880's building. The furniture was all very nice and the room was nicely decorated. Sheets and bedspreads were all in great condition. The physical location of the inn was excellent. A block from the river and mere stumbling blocks home from the local bars. BEST yet is the funky Piano bar downstairs, with some of the oddest collection of art this side of a 1980's swinging bachelor pad. Both tacky and eclectic. But I digress. While my girlfriend and I enjoyed the Bed but we missed the Breakfasts for two days. We slept late both days (that's the story we are sticking with). The bed was super comfortable and plush and it's the best sleep I've had in a while. They supply ear plugs in the room due to the Piano Bar in the basement but we never needed them. For a bed and breakfast and given the price I was really happy with the Prince Solms and would recommend it. Remember this is a 1800's B&B, if you want Hyatt - go to the freaking Hyatt. But if you want to pretend your Doc Holiday and your girlfriend is Miss Kitty - this is an awesome place to go. My boyfriend and I stayed at the Prince Solms Inn for five nights and loved it! We stayed in the Texas Room which has a claw-foot tub, a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. The king size bed plus day bed were more than enough. The room was decorated in true Texas fashion! Staying at the Prince Solms Inn feels less like staying in a hotel and more like staying with family. The owner, Al, and the two maids/cooks, Nancy and Larry, really care about you and do their best to make sure you are comfortable. The hotel is decorated with an old-time, antique feel. Their dining room feels like you're eating with family. I think the "family feel" makes the guests feel closer. Everyone I met was so kind and willing to share their story with me. They have a great patio area. Lots of tables and seating in the shade. There's a piano bar in the basement, but the crowd doesn't get rowdy so there's no reason to worry about noise on the weekends. I was raised in New Braunfels, so I loved staying in this beautiful hotel with my boyfriend so close to downtown. read more

Especially the basement piano bar with a great chocolate martini served in an ice cold crystal tini glass...class! This is right up on a main street, so don't expect a quiet retreat. Home made breakfast served every morning by one of the owners and it was good food too. Not just a buffet breakfast with bagels and muffins. Eggs, sausage, fruit..... all good. Inn keepers were very nice and seemed willing to bend over backwards to help enhance your stay. Basement bar under the inn is under new management. Stayed at this cute and charming boutique hotel over Memorial Day weekend. My boyfriend and I got there Sunday evening from Big Bend and the host was very accommodating with the late check-in time when we got there. I was worried the room was going to be too small but it was just right for two people. We stayed at #7, the one with all the books, and it was so cute! The hotel is central to everything. We went downstairs for dinner at Muck and Fuss (delicious!) and afterward walked to the bars on the main street. The next morning, we walked to breakfast at Union Station ($10 voucher from the hotel) and to check out some of the tubing spots. My husband and I recently got married in New Braunfels, and had a lot of out of town guests to accommodate. We decided to steer people towards the Prince Solms Inn, and we're so glad we did! Al, the innkeeper, was a pleasure to work with, and helped make sure all of our guests were well taken care of (he even picked up a few folks from the San Antonio Airport!) Some folks left items in their rooms (including the bride...) and Al easily found them, and shipped them off to the right places for us--free of charge. Ben and I stayed in the Carriage Haus, which was a really fun mix of new and old. A perfect landing zone for wedding festivities! The Prince Solms Inn has always been a favorite place to stay when visiting New Braunfels so we were really looking forward to their renovations and additions. Overall, we were pleased with much of what had been done. Both Muck and Fuss (described as a craft beer and burger barn) and the Sidecar (located in the cellar and described as a speakeasy) were fun places to go. Muck and Fuss offers an excellent array of craft beers and the food is quite good and reasonably priced. Sidecar, while it served us tasty cocktails accompanied by entertainment in the form of a talented vocalist and piano player, could have played up the speakeasy vibe more. We stayed in the Klein House because it allowed for two separate sleeping rooms, one an actual bedroom, the other the living room with a very comfortable sofa bed. It was great to have a full kitchen (refrigerator, stove, microwave, pots and pans, toaster, coffee maker, among other things) at our disposal although one of the more notable glitches of our stay occurred there. The bathroom with its claw foot tub was charming and adequately supplied with toiletries. Our few minor complaints include: 1) a toilet that often required multiple flushes combined with a slowly filling tank, 2) The clothes closet had its doors hung in a way that prevented actually being able to close them completely, 3) not enough light, and 4) a mirror place above the toilet that made putting on makeup a tad awkward. The spacious bedroom had a very comfy bed with tables/lamps on both sides of it. If I were to make a suggestion to the Prince Solms folks, I'd encourage them to have lamps with charging stations... not a big deal, but my husband had an outlet on his side of the bed so he could use his phone while he charged it, but having no outlet on my side, I could not. The living room had plenty of seating and the decor was fun with nice historic touches. Happily, our stay was quite pleasant, but we had a rocky start. We arrived a bit before 3:00 p.m. so we didn't necessarily expect our room to be ready and it wasn't. Not a problem at all as we strolled the short distance to Muck and Fuss for drinks and snacks -- truffle fries and guacamole with chips (both delicious) hit the spot and Dan's beer selections made him happy! Rather than using actual keys or key cards, the Prince Solms uses a pass code of your choosing to allow access during your stay. To the best of my recollection, there was a little difficulty getting this to work properly but that problem got solved. Because of our wait and the pass code issue, our food at Muck and Fuss was comped -- very nice!! After gaining entry to the Klein House, I busied myself getting settled in, but when Dan arrived he called me to the kitchen where, unfortunately, the dishwasher that had been started to wash the previous guests dishes was spewing water out onto the floor at an alarming rate. As there were several workers on site, I was able to find one quickly and explain our dilemma. The two men who arrived to help were not able to fix the problem readily so they disconnected the dishwasher and hauled it off. One came back to cover a pipe opening and mop up the considerable amount of water. The next day when my niece was washing the few dishes we'd used, the electrical tape (!) that had been used to cover the pipe failed so once again, water was much in evidence. This time, since the sink was not that full, we mopped up the water on our own and went about our business. When we returned from shopping at the farmers market, we alerted management that another repair was needed. This time a goodly amount of duct tape was employed and leaks ceased. My only other issue with the kitchen was that the stand alone china cabinet, like the closet in the bathroom, would not close. These are little things, I guess, but considering the cost ($200/night) they stood out to me. Now having said all this, I do recommend the Prince Solms! The owners/staff are very friendly and accommodating, the inn is replete with history and charm, and it is within easy walking distance to many attractions including downtown, Wurstfest, Prince Solms Park, and Gruene (about three miles). And even though they are not set up to serve breakfast yet, vouchers are provided that may be used at the Union Station Diner just up the road. The cinnamon rolls there are extraordinarily good and... well, huge! read more

Considering how long this place has been operating as an inn, since 1898, it is amazing how much of the original structure and design has been kept up! Many of the furnishing are beautiful antiques, and most of the common and guest rooms are papered with incredible wallpaper, that while appearing period, have to be reproduction wallpaper, though a couple rooms are papered with something reminiscent of the 80s Laura Ashley prints. As we ascended the wide stairway to our room, we felt like we were in an old western. The short rail and rectangular layout are the same as they were back in the day! Not for small children though, safety issue. Our bed was incredibly comfortable and there was both a fan and air conditioning, so our room was comfortable during a hot June visit. Our bath had a claw foot tub, also very authentic. The breakfast we had on both days was outstanding! And our host just happened to be the owner, a friendly, kind and lovely gentleman, who we truly enjoyed meeting and chatting with whenever we could. We absolutely loved this place and hope to make it back once more before it changes hands, which is happening sometime in November of 2016, to our dismay! So if you want a lovely place to stay for a special occasion or just to get away for a night or two, this is the place! read more

Stayed in the Carriage House and had a very mixed experience. The suite itself was quite enjoyable (bed, sitting, dining areas). There was party noise at night from piano bar patrons, though earplugs were provided with the room. The spa tub in our room had a visible coat of filth. It looked like it hadn't been scrubbed out in months. The breakfast was cheapo sausages, a cup of fruit, and eggs overcokjed in cooked in cupcake cups with a bit of cheese and herbs on top. I've had better continental breakfasts... Far better. The room was more expensive than the amazingly nice Driskill in Austin in which we stayed the night before. I felt like we FAR overpaid for what we got. A filthy tub and crappy breakfast are par for the course at hotels with a number 8 in the name, but not in a B&B at 3 or 4 times their cost. THAT'S HOW YOU DO THAT! My wife and I stayed in the Texas Room. It's a fully functional hideaway. We liked the private patio but found ourselves most often relaxing in the courtyard. That courtyard is my new "happy place". In other reviews that I have read, there were some comments about noise. You can hear the passing traffic, the train somewhere near by, the church bell and the occasional conversations of others. However, I found these sounds to be rhythmic and strangely relaxing. You get the sense that life is rolling on beyond the iron gate of the courtyard but that it doesn't involve you. The staff was wonderful. They have mastered the balance between being helpful and being bothersome. While being shown around, I got the impression that Al was saying "look what I've created!" He presented the community and other businesses in the same way. So, reviews are a balance between expectation and outcome. My expectations were high and the Prince Solms Inn met them. If one expects the sterile environment and overwhelming doting of a 5 star cruise, probably not happening here. On the other hand, a relaxing, historic, clean, safe and perfectly located oasis will be found here. I have also reviewed the piano bar beneath this old inn so I won't add that here. You still have time to earn the 5 star. I want to so bad but....The new owners haven't grasped the concept of owning a famous, well respected, historical place yet. But, they DO have the right intentions. And great ideas. And it still has the potential to be one of the best spots ever. I have stayed here with my parent since I was a kid, and brought my kids as well. But now, the new owners have one major flaw. Just a friendly suggestion, don't split up weekends where someone can book Just Saturday night. Now, you have cut off who knows how many people who want to book the weekend with you on the first weekend of Wurstfest. Or stay the weekend in a B&B. We are longtime customers of Prince Solms Inn. Love the place. But that is crazy to trade two days you can't book (Friday and Sunday) just to give someone Saturday night. Hello Holiday Inn. I am so sad. Great venue for a wedding. My brother was recently married at this location and Prince Solms Inn was the perfect location. The back patio was large enough to accommodate about 100 people, with plenty of seating and shade. The downstairs bar was just too cool! its dark, mysterious and a total throwback. the interior of the inn was also kept in the time that the house was built back in 1898, its very charming. Also i'd like to mention that the staff who worked that day did an amazing job and i appreciate all the help and service provided! Thanks a lot! you guys rock! read more

The Prince Solms Inn was a wonderful place to stay while I attended a conference in New Braunfels. I stayed in the Huntsman room and it quite roomy. It also had the tallest ceilings I've ever seen. If those walls could talk, I'd love to hear their stories. The charm of the staircase and the relaxation of the veranda was irresistible. The staff was kind and helpful. I loved every minute of my stay and will certainly stay there again. I found the price to be more than fair in comparison to the generic hotel/motels located closer to the freeway. I didn't spend much more than I would have spent at a generic chain and I was surrounded by history, character and charm. I look forward to my next visit!! read more

we decided to go out of town...kinda. we couldn't afford to jet set to europe...or even a flight to topeka would've put us out. well we thought and it dawned on us that while austin is a quite modern city, it was still very much in texas, surrounded by many small quaint texas towns. we decided on new braunfels for many reasons, it was close, inexpensive, and we were somewhat familiar with it since this is one of the more popular destinations for toobing/tubing/however you spell that activity. when we have visited for toobing we never really took in the sights or appreciated the possibilities. we picked to stay at the prince solms inn...it was affordable and the least offensive in comparison to its heavily decorated contenders around town. we checked into the library room. no victorian-ness was going to overtake our senses in there! the room was simple in decor and the back wall was taken up by a substantial bookcase and against it was a giant king sized cloud we used as a bed. sleeping was easily accomplished in the amazing bed! in the morning we woke to a homemade breakfast...usually some type of egg (one day a frittata and the other day scrambled), with sausage, a bread (one day it was a croissant and the other a kolache) and side of yummy fruit. you also had you picks of yogurts and cereal's, coffees and teas. we sloppily left our room to go enjoy the town and take a hike. we came back and they had made our bed and straightened the bathroom. place our belongings where we left them, although much neater. one evening we decided to sit out on the porch and have a few beers and enjoy the sunset...it was relaxing and lovely. the staff was exceptionally polite and helpful. and al (i believe the owner?) was so charming, friendly and helpful. letting us use the refrigerator for our leftovers and some beer. and he happily told us the sites we should see...one time while giving us directions he even walked out side to show us where to go. even though it would have been much easier for him to tell us to just turn left! one site we weren't able to fit in was right under our noses...literally! there is a piano bar below the inn called uptown piano bar and apparently it is a "site" to behold! next time we will make sure we fit it in! overall this visit was fantastic. and the prince solms inn had a lot to do with that! read more

Loved this place, despite it being a work in progress! Felt like we were a part of the family. The main house has a gorgeous grand entry, and they are working on turning the basement into a wine cellar/speak-easy type place. We stayed in the Klein House. Perfect for the 4 of us, with a King, a daybed and a trundle! The king bed was very comfortable! The house has plenty of towels, toiletries, and soaps. Full kitchen and bath. They're not equipped to serve breakfast...yet, but did leave vouchers to the Union Station up the road for breakfast. Again, walking distance and the food was great! Coffee maker in our room, but we were also invited to come use the main house for coffee or refreshments. Cute porch. (View isn't the best, but...) Comal River is just down the road and lots of tube rentals nearby within walking distance. We used 444. Turned out to be the best deal since they give discounts for teachers, military, and first responders. Short walk to a local favorite, Naeglin's German bakery! Lots of cute cafés within walking distance. They've begun work on the new building next door, that will be a restaurant with a patio and potential for live music between the two buildings where the original stables once were. Can't wait to come back in the fall when they hope to have a lot more done & up and running! This is the best reason to stay off the highway! This place is amazing first you have AL!!! Who is the most helpful, wonderful, kind, and nice Inn Keeper I have ever ran across and I might add he is up with technology which is always a plus. He obviously loves the Inn and his employees. He holds much pride with the historic building. He allowed me and my boyfriend to check in early as we spent the weekend at Schlitterbahn. He answered every question we had since we were out of towners. We stayed in the rose room and the pictures on the website do NOT give this room or the building justice. The location is to die for, just a few blocks from Schlitterbahn. Our room was well equipped with snack, luxurious Ralph Lauren towels, and a wonderful pillow topped mattress. I even appreciated the air freshener tucked away in our room. Just to smell floral smells while staying in a themed room of roses. It add so much to the experience. The claw foot tub was the BEST, so beautiful and elegant. The bathroom was a very nice size for it being a B&B. The building itself just makes you feel in love. Great for couples of any age. It's beautiful grand staircase and classic pictures on the wall. It also has a feel as if you're staying with your parents after you have moved out and now your an adult, when you leave your room at night you try and not creek the stairs. But make sure you don't miss the upstairs balcony. It's wonderful, actually everything about this place is wonderful. The dining room is so cute and very formal. Remember Nancey cooks and serves a killer breakfast. She is wonderful and sociable . The courtyard is beautiful and the parking is convenient. The piano room down stairs sounds amazing. This was the best last minute decision we have ever made. Remember if you want the Hilton stay at a Hilton. Here it is so peaceful you don't even get a phone in your room. We traveled here from Austin in about an hour. Chose the Anniversary Package and were delighted with the roses, wine, and fruit and cheese tray that were waiting for us when we got to our room. The Songbird Room was prettier than the online photo of it. Very much reminded us of a pension we had enjoyed in Vienna with its high ceilings, wallpaper, furnishings and lacy curtains. The entire inn is just charming. We enjoyed quiet time in the courtyard and lounged on the upper balcony after dinner. And we received such warm hospitality and helpful information from Al and Larry. A local river outfitter will pick you up at the inn, take you to their inner tube rental locale where you can rent your inner tube, launch into the Comal, and then be picked up after a nice, long float in the river and returned to the inn. It is true that there is noise from the traffic and from the revelers at the Uptown Piano Bar beneath the inn. But the hosts are thoughtful enough to provide ear plugs along with the bottled water, snacks, and Andes mints that are another special touch. Hubby says the ear plugs blocked out all but the gentle, comforting snoring of his beloved wife! Did I mention he is a gem, as well?? In summary, our visit was like combining two of our favorite vacation activities: discovering enchanting little hideaways in Europe, and relaxing & reconnecting while being immersed in clear, cool water. We spent part of our honeymoon at the Prince Solms Inn and returned in 2014 for two nights for our 30th anniversary. We stayed in Sophie's Suite again and had a wonderful experience. Inn keeper was most helpful in providing info about downtown New Braunfels shopping and restaurants which were an easy walk away. Found great German restaurant. Breakfasts were great. We even asked for the recipe for one of the egg casseroles. Also enjoyed a walk by the river, one block the opposite direction from downtown. read more

I had my wedding onsite at Prince Solms Inn. Family and friends rented out most of the rooms at the B&B, and we reserved the downstairs bar for an evening wedding. We had 50 of our closest friends and family in attendance. We had food catered in, wedding ceremony and band all downstairs in the bar. The back patio is great, too, but it was a cool night. The weekend and my wedding was perfect! Al (the innkeeper), Kelly and Larry (bar-keepers) were so helpful! They made it easy and were willing to work with us in any way. Thank you! read more

Our trip was to be the last for a while, intended to be a romantic getaway for a few days to relax and enjoy each other. What we found prevented that from coming to fruition. The inn keeper (Al) is a very nice and charming man. He was polite and hospitable, even offering to buy us a bottle of wine (we don't drink at the moment) and instead bought us lunch. We thought that this was a very nice gesture. That's about where the good part ends. We found the rooms VERY DUSTY and dingy. Bugs in the corners, water stains on the walls from the air conditioner, stained carpets, a strange smell in the air (I'm guessing from the mold that was growing due to the air conditioner leaking). We couldn't use the ceiling fans because they were so caked in dust. If we had turned them on we would have been dealing with a dust storm. Even the beds were dusty. We shook out the covers before we got into the bed, we could see the dust in the air. We gave it a go on the first night, trying to be good sports about it. We got through the night, not sleeping much because of the PIANO BAR directly underneath our room. They quit about midnight. Oh, and a train comes through town on the hour every hour throughout the night, blowing its horn the whole way through. We went out and had our day. We got done with our activities and realized we had to go back at some point. We didn't want to. We knew it was gross. We even had our room changed, it didn't help. We were just that uncomfortable. Now I'm pretty reasonable. I know that the hotel doesn't own the train, they can't do much. I know they don't have much say on the piano bar. Our move upstairs the second night solved that problem. What baffles me is the complete lack of pride in the ownership of the business. I would say that if I was the innkeeper, I would have it immaculate all the time, as if the Queen herself was coming to stay that night. At least I might have the decency to clean the room that was reserved for that evening to make sure we were ready to go. The innkeeper said to us in an email that we had unrealistic expectations for staying at a historic inn. I contradict. I expect it to be clean. I would imagine most of us might agree. The second night I picked up a dead cockroach in the room we had. I didn't tell my wife about the cockroach. I would have been driving home that evening and I wasn't up for it. We checked out 2 nights early. We just couldn't take it anymore. Initially the owner kept $100 of our money for the 2 unused nights ($50 per night). After writing a few emails back and forth he refunded another $50.00. We asked for all of our money back based on our experience. We didn't receive it. I am absolutely not impressed with this establishment and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I thought the staff was friendly and courteous, but based on the condition of the building I don't think this was a good experience for us. read more
