We stayed 2 nights at this delightful lodge. It is right on the Guadalupe River, below Canyon Lake. The first day we did a tube float around the "horseshoe" bend of the river and ended up only a few hundred feet from the lodge--no long drive back. Our hosts, Wendy and Doc, were great. Doc picked us up at the end of our float and brought us back to the lodge The lodge provided our tubes at no charge. The rooms are clean, comfortable and decorated with a fun western theme. The pool was sparkling clean and refreshing. We plan to come here again in the fall for some fishing, as this trip was kid oriented. We spent the second day at Schlitterbahn which is conveniently located a few miles away. I highly recommend a stay at the Horseshoe Riverside Lodge. read more

What an adorable little get away spot. Came to Gruene for a wedding. Didn't want to stay in the recommended franchise hotel suggestions. Found this quaint, super cute little motel right on the river. Didn't get to enjoy it too much the night we stayed but drinking coffee the next morning with the back door opened, warm sun streaming in, watching the river and people fishing, made the trip. There's a wonderful deck to hang out with BBQ pits. A launch ramp right next to place. Super easy check in, super friendly staff. I would definitely stay here again. 5 s. read more

Maricopa Riverside Lodge is the PERFECT place to stay on the Guadalupe! We planned a 3-day vacation and ended up extending it to 7 days! This review will first cover the location and convenience of it regarding floating the river since that is a HUGE aspect to any river/floating trip. I will cover the lodge itself toward the end of the review. The lodge is located in Canyon Lake at the corner of FM 306 and the beginning of the horseshoe on the Guadalupe, so when you're ready to float you literally walk outside your room, down to the river and jump in. You can then float the horseshoe (depending on river levels approx 2 to 2.5-hour float) back to FM 306 where you can get out and literally walk back to the lodge. The walk is only a 1/2 mile and is super easy on a paved trail that runs beside the road. Between being wet from exiting the river and the several shady area's the walk isn't incredibly hot like you'd think. No need for shuttles at all! Because this part of the river is in Canyon Lake (not New Braunfels city limits) the river rules aren't as strict so we could load up our bottled water and can's of beer in the cooler to float with us (just not styrofoam or less than 5 oz plastic containers). Rember to bring your trash back with you - please do not litter on the river! If you don't want to float the horseshoe, no problem! We actually spent a lot of our time playing in the water directly in front of the lodge. The side of the river closest to the lodge is shallow enough to pop a lawn chair and cooler and chill in the water and watch people tube by - and is mostly shaded after about 1-2 pm each day. The far side of the river is deep enough to play in a raft or tube. Every now and then we walked upstream in the water (ankle to waist-deep water in various areas) about 1/5 mile, which was cool and super easy, where we'd jump back in at the watermill and tube 20-30 minutes or so back to the lodge passing 2 sets of small rapids along the way. Another convenience of the location is that it's only about 3 minutes to a couple of gas station/convenience stores and about 8 minutes from a small grocery store, family dollar, liquor store, etc. Now, for the lodge itself... If you're looking for FANCY this isn't it - it's a RIVER LODGE! HOWEVER, the rooms are very clean, comfortable and have everything you need for a stay on the river including a super cold AC unit! ALL rooms are WATERFRONT looking out over the Guadalupe River. The standard rooms (that we stayed in) have 2 double beds, TV, coffee pot, coffee, microwave, etc., and an apartment size fridge/freezer for all of your cold foods. On grounds, they have several BBQ pits (charcoal and propane), several picnic tables, a fire pit, as well as a slide and swing set for the kiddos. They also have a swimming pool which was PERFECT for cooling off in after carrying your tubes and cooler, etc. up from the river before firing up the grill. Management was very accomodating with our extended stay. We extended our stay twice from 3 days to 4 days to 7 days (we didn't want to leave!). However, the star staff member was the Maintenance Man, Ross! He definitely deserves a special mention. He was very accomodating and ensured we had an excellent stay. No matter what we needed, Ross was able to help us, not only with clean towels, extra toiletries, etc... Need to know what store is where? Ross can help. Need to know how long it takes to float a certain section of the river? Ross can help. When we were outside cooking on the grill and playing games at the table we mentioned, we wish we'd brought a fan... Ross had one and set it up for us! Another time we wished we had brought a fold-out table and Ross appeared with one. One of us got a sunburn and Ross pointed out that they had an aloe vera plant, etc. He even busted out his guitar a few times and we enjoyed him playing some acoustic music while we grilled. Ross definitely showed some serious southern hospitality and made our stay extra pleasant and we invited him to eat with us often during our stay to return the favor. Came here last summer for a float and was disappointed w the ac. unit. Since then ownership or management has changed and they invited me back before peak season. Awesome experience this time! Love the mom & pop feel and the fact that box hotels aren't getting my money. Beautiful property and so peaceful before the summer floaters start moving in. I will definately be back in the future. We have nicknamed this place the murder motel. All night long rats or critters ran in the ceiling! It was $99 on thanksgiving weekend so we packed up to take a trip. It did not look like the pictures ! The pictures on hotel.com showed a cute remodeled room wirh a full fridge. This to me was more like a motel 6, it literally had a hole in the wall, the sheets were brown and there was no liner ( bed bug protector)for the mattress which scared me . We would have left but it was non refundable . The swing set looked rough, I see people wrote don't expect the ritz Carlton when you come here well don't expect anything more than a motel 6 honestly. Yes it's on the river and maybe if it was summer I would have loved it but I'm basing this solely on the room itself. And the soap was watered down!! It's Covid season y'all why is there watered down soap! The plus is your on the river and they did have pecan trees . The restroom did have this red splatter on the wall and my hisband and I joked it was the murder blood stain lol. It was an adventure staying here. We didn't get bed bugs and nobody robbed us, walls are thin so you will hear every critter in the ceiling run and your neighbor above you walk and move furniture and things all night. Anyone who has given this place less than 5 stars is just crazy! It is a total gem, hiding right next door to Shanty Tubes where you can walk to get your tubes a very short distance from your front door. Then walk a very short distance to the bridge to load in. The room was nice and cold when we got back, knowing we would be hot and miserable after a float. Brand new tile floors all thru out that were very clean. Soft sheets, extra pillows, extra shampoo and body wash in the clean shower, nice mini fridge, coffee pot with coffee provided, easy access out the front door to your car, easy access to a beautiful, very well decorated and homey feel that looked like it would be our own backyard. I'm talking potted plants, patio decks, with several grills, grilling utensils provided, picnic tables, iron tables, umbrellas, JENGA games, and my favorite..!! There are 2 charcoal grills that are made by the owner himself that are actual longhorns. Just. Stay. Here. Worth every penny! We will be back every trip. Oh! How could I forget to mention how NICE and helpful Barbara was at the front desk. I called several times with questions because we usually camp, and she just made me want to stay at this place even more! Even gave me a hug when we finally met. Urgh! do I have to give this dump and its slum lord a star? Awful AWFUL awful, service, rooms and prices. we paid $120.00 for a 1 bed room, now this should be comparable to a 5 star hotel in the city. NOPE! it was a dump. Dirty floors, water wouldn't work, bugs in the room & bathroom, doors wouldn't shut "lady says you need to slam it", HORRIBLE service. The manager, I believe her name was Cindy was one of the worst nasty faced human beings I've ever come into contact with. Everyone that over-flowed from the wedding venue down the street was stuck at this &$*# hole. Lucky we got out before check out time on saturday so we ended up going down the street to The cabins at Jacob's creek, got a 1 bedroom log cabin with a view of the lake for $125. The Maricopa Riverside Lodge was a let down, it and the manager really put a negative experience down in our memories for what should have been a great relaxing time at a friends wedding, a once in a lifetime event. Maricopa Riverside Lodge is awful-- mainly the management, second the rooms condition, prices and lack of respect for peoples money, time & life experiences. The location is unbeatable for a float down the Guadalupe river. It's within walking distance to tube rentals, and you can drop in on the river in front of the lodge. Every room has a river view. It is an old place with character, but that being said it could use some updates. The bed was okay, but the bedding was very old. The towles were stained, the bathroom was very out dated, and we were missing our toilet paper holder. Everything else in the room was fine. The staff were kind and layed back. Although we have stayed at the location under it's old name, this was our first visit with new management. The new folks went way above and beyond to make sure our stay was the best it could be. We booked a room for a short notice family weekend and the owners were wonderful. It's a perfect location for a family fun time in the river. We booked last minute and had an amazing experience! When checking in we learned the lodge is under new management (now Horseshoe Riverside Lodge) and they have made some major upgrades. Rooms are renovated and they added a huge outdoor porch leading to the river. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They helped us out with an early check in. GREAT location. Stayed there this past weekend. Rented two queen size rooms. Filthy place. Will not come back. The room felt dirty. Housekeeping was not available during our stay. Sheets felt dirty. Bathroom floor and shower had hair all over the floor and on the shower walls. The bathroom sink leaked water when you used it. The refrigerator door would not close and seal tight so nothing would get cold. In the other room we had, the shower would not drain. No thanks, I'd rather pay double the price than stay here again. read more

At first I loved the place. Everything seemed clean until the next day when I stripped the bed to help out for easy clean up for whom ever cleans up the cabins. There was dirt,crumbs, and hairs all underneath my sheets. Not really a big deal I suppose my body didn't come in direct contact with any of it. It wasnt until the drive home that I started forming red bulges on my face, neck, scalp, arm,leg, and hand. Yes that's right the cabin we had stayed in had bed bugs! First off, let me say I've stayed at my fair share of budget motels. My problem with the Maricopa Riverside Lodge is it's a budget motel priced like a premium property. The king room was $178/night (incl. taxes). For comparison, on South Padre Island I've stayed at a similar budget motel (comparable in construction, tourist location, amenities, furnishings), and paid $49-$89 depending on the season. If you were bringing your family here to float the river or go fishing, this place is probably a great value. But for a couple who came for a weekend to see a show at Whitewater Amphitheater just down the road, it wasn't a good choice. There are no quality restaurants/bars close to the property, no local attractions (other than the river), just nothing to do unless you drive somewhere else. If you want anything to eat other than after-all-day-on-the-river greasy/fried stuff, you'll need to drive closer to Canyon Lake (7 miles) or to New Braunfels (15 miles). If you're not into floating the river (or if the river is closed due to dangerous conditions) and looking for other entertainment, you're driving to New Braunfels or to Austin or San Antonio (both 50-60 miles). Also, be aware of the property's cancellation policy. Not beware, just be aware. There have been substantial rains and flooding in central/south Texas recently. So much rain that for the weekend of our stay, the Guadalupe River was closed to recreation due to dangerous conditions. But just looking up river flow/cfs can't tell you about flooding conditions, so I called the MRL on the Wednesday before our weekend reservations. My call was answered by an answering machine so I left a message asking for a call back to let me know about local conditions so I could make a decision about whether or not to make the trip. No one ever bothered to call me back. And why should they? MRL has got my money whether I show up or not, or whether or not I could even get to the property because of flooded roadways. Per the cancellation policy on their website (edited for space): "If you must cancel your confirmed reservation regardless of reason (including bad weather, illness, death...), you will be charged 30% of the deposit. The deposit will be refunded less the 30% if notice to cancel is received by no less than 14 days prior to the scheduled arrival time. Cancellations made less than 14 days will forfeit the full deposit entirely. There will be no refunds for inclement weather, including hurricanes, mandatory evacuations, or states of emergency." I decided to take the chance and we made the trip. Luckily, it only rained overnight and was clear during the days and for the concert. Still, I would have appreciated a return call regarding local conditions. There's also no on-site management to speak of which could be an issue if something was wrong with your room. Well, something was wrong with the room the next day. The toilet backed up. Yuck. Fortunately, when my husband went to the front office, someone was there and brought a plunger to the room a few minutes later and left it for us to use. So now I'm in an over-priced budget motel where you get to perform maintenance on your own room. Sigh. The negatives of this property grossly outweighed the positives for me. I've already investigated camping down the road and closer to Whitewater Amphitheater for our next concert trip. Yes, I would rather camp than pay premium prices at this property again. GOOD THINGS * On the Guadalupe River; walking distance to tube rental companies * Nice property with deck, grills, pool (except when invaded by loud, local kids late at night), playground * Very basic amenities: coffee maker with coffee, microwave, refrigerator with freezer, alarm clock, hair dryer, cable TV (but no premium movie channels like HBO, etc.), table with two chairs, bath soap, shampoo/conditioner combo * All non-smoking rooms BAD THINGS * The room was clean enough, but just clean enough. Brown tile floors disguise a lot of dirt. * No housekeeping while you are checked into your room. If you want new towels, you have to exchange your towels at the front office. (Ironically, there is an envelope to leave a tip for the housekeeper. For what? I expect the room to be clean when I check in.) * Lots of road noise from FM 306, noisy window A/C unit, and guests in other rooms ("thin walls"). It sounded like someone was moving furniture all night above us. * Room towels can't be taken to the pool, but nothing I saw on their website alerted me to the fact that I needed to bring my own pool towels from home. * The loudest window A/C unit ever. Louder than the overnight rain. * Very uncomfortable mattress and pillows * Everything just done on the cheap: outdated decor and furniture; Family Dollar liquid soap in dispensers; styrofoam cups for coffee; polyester resin wallboard. * Free wifi didn't work with provided password. read more

THE ABSOLUTE WORST PLACE!!!!!!! Well, I'm not sure where to start, The website is extremely deceiving & in actuality looks nothing like what it shows online. Once I entered the room, I knew this was not a great pick. Now I have worked in the hotel industry for 10+ yrs. This place was horrific! Not sure when the floor had been cleaned last but after walking on it barefoot, mind you, my feet were black. HORRIBLE! The silk plants decor should have been thrown away 4-5 yrs ago. The toilet is so low to the ground that I thought I was squatting in the woods. The only heat I had (cold weather time) was super small & didn't put out a lot of heat. The window blind on the door in LR that leads out to deck, well if not taped to the door, others can see inside. So the scotch they have been using no longer sticks, so they need to put new scotched tape on it. SERIOUSLY! Now the deck floor was very moldy looking & I was somewhat nervous about walking out onto it. The grill I don't think has ever been cleaned & the grill fork still had some old meat on it for the next person to use. YUK! But the view was really nice of the river. Now the bed was probably the ONLY thing that was fine as I immediately checked it after inspecting everything else. The mattress looked to be new & it was comfortable. Please reconsider staying at this place. The owner really needs to make some upgrade changes to this place without a doubt to match the rate. I was attending a family wedding so other family members were staying at this place as well. And to hear about their rooms, well, I'll just let that part alone. Please keep in mind, I paid $167.00 for this room & it is off season. NOT WORTH IT! Considering everything, these rooms are only worth $59.00 a night. I have paid that at other places & they looked far better than this place.Very disappointed but the wedding was great! read more

Stayed here again in March 2016. Kathy, the owner LJ and office staff were friendly as ever. Always welcoming to my service dog Roscoe with a treat. The updated rooms are beautiful new flat screen TVs. As one review said if you're looking for the Ritz Carlton this ain't it however it is a great value it's right on the river you can fish from your back door or float down the river from any of the places around. It's within walking distance to a nice little outdoor amphitheater where the beer is cold and the entertainment is always good. This Hotel was nice, not great but very nice and right by the river. They have a very nice and rustic outdoors area, with grills and picnic tables and a very relaxing enviroment. The rooms are a little small and the t.v. could be upgraded to the 20th century, but in all my little family was very comfortable, and very happy with this hotel overall. The room that we stayed in was a 2 double bed room, with a fridge, and microwave, both worked great and made life easy. Overall this hotel gets at least a thumbs up and we will vist again if the river calls us. read more
