Our wedding party checked in to the Grurene River Inn on a Wednesday afternoon. The staff was very friendly. Check-in was very smooth. We stayed in the GUADALUPE HAVEN room. Parking was so easy just steps from the front door. Our room was very clean. Loved the fireplace a few things that really need to be noted, is how close the hotel is to everything. It is an amazing location. We walk to our dinner reservations. They also serve wine in the lobby in the evening. The breakfast served in the morning was so good! The view from our table of the pool and the river was just beautiful. At breakfast, we all loved the yogurt parfait. It had crushed pineapple and kiwi. They had sausage, biscuits, and gravy, beautiful quiche, Pastries, so many beverage options. Everyone was so impressed. We all very much enjoyed our stay at the Gruene River Inn. read more

Let me start by saying that when change is made, it should be for the better. This has been a stop on our travel between family visitations on the I-35 corridor for many years. It always had a welcoming, rustic, hill-country feel to it that matched the surroundings. Our last stay I was really disappointed at the changes that had been made to the decor mostly because they make no sense and did not improve the property in any way. I sincerely hope that the owners did not pay for this decor design. It's pretty awful. (And kind of funny bc it's ALL over the place). What used to be rustic and charming now seems to be modern (gold fixtures, tiled shower, trash cans) asian (black trim, bathroom doors, headboard fabric), kitschy (lasso bedside lamps- that aren't good for reading and don't dim), with a 50's retro flair (the refrigerator and the blue tooth), and modern cowboy art on the walls. Yet, no one thought to include charging ports for electronics! It's so confusing. They pulled out the nice big tub and put in a shower that doesn't have a door and has a shower head with no pressure and no direction to it- so to say it plainly, it's difficult to get clean! Amongst all the changes perhaps fixing the toilet so it doesn't randomly run might have been a good choice. One of the reasons we use to like to stay were the delicious breakfast tacos that were provided. I don't know if they will come back or not as the lobby was under construction, but based on the decor choices my guess is they will make some equally terrible decision regarding the lobby and maybe do away with it all together? Who knows!What it has going for it is that the views are amazing (thankfully they couldn't change that or my guess is they would have)! The bed was comfortable and the towels were top notch. Maybe if you've never been before you won't find it as disturbing but I just had a hard time reconciling the fact that they paid to make the place worse. We stayed here for our anniversary. This is a proper rustic Texas inn experience. We stayed in the Pecos room. Old world comfort with wood floors and four poster bed, with modern amenities including a two person jacuzzi tub. This is a large bed and breakfast inn, so opt for the reasonably priced $5 a plate breakfast and you won't be disappointed. Then during the day / evening go to Historic Gruene town center within walking distance (or a short Uber ride). Visit Gruene Hall, Gristmill River Restaurant and Bar, The River House restaurant, Gruene Coffee Haus and loads of boutique / antique shops. The combination of location, friendly Texas hospitality and freshly prepared food is way better than opting for a comparably priced typical hotel with typical free breakfast. I guess my wife and I prefer an authentic experience over a cookie-cutter chain hotel. And Gruene River Inn offers that experience at a reasonable price. read more

This was our first time to stay at Gruene River Inn during a visit to New Braunfels but it's certainly our new favorite. My husband and I prefer a place like this over a hotel chain. It was quiet and cozy with everything we needed. Our room, the Comal on 3rd floor, and I think all rooms here, have balconies that face the river which is a wonderful scene to wake up to. Also, the little fireplace warmed the room up quickly, kept it toasty and we had the option to crack the door to the balcony when it got a bit too warm. Hearing the flow of the water was so nice and relaxing. We had a easy walk down to the little town where Gruene Hall is as it's just down the road a bit. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

For a carefree getaway the Gruene River Inn is a spectacular choice! Free breakfast, free WiFi, free parking, and plenty of unexpected surprises like a hot cocoa bar complete with Christmas cookies and cake. For breakfast, the friendly hosts had our breakfast burrito preferences waiting for us along with cereals, pastries, yogurt, fruit, juices, a waffle station, and more. In the afternoon and evening, there were snacks to enjoy and sodas & drinking water in the fridge (honor system, only $1 a drink). Did I mention a private balcony with river view, a large jetted tub, and a cute, little fireplace in your room? The inn is under renovation; I was startled to arrive and see a makeshift reception area with the front desk clerk seated at a small-ish table set up in the hallway a few steps away from the doors to the individual rooms. There used to be an elegant reception area with a breakfast area etc. The Pros: fabulous balcony with 5 star view of the river, Immaculate room with a comfy chair, roomy bathroom with no tub, lovely paintings and cute light fixtures. Wifi, a fridge, coffee maker (Nespresso),TV screen and BT device. The room was very quiet and I felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. We were able to enjoy our music and not feel like we were disturbing the neighbors on either side. Front desk was friendly & helped us --in person--use the punch pad to unlock and lock the door to our room. The Cons: for the price, a very small room with no closet or rod to hang garments, no table other than one that was about 8 inches deep/more of shelf, no ironing board. The only floor lamp in our room was broken, which management was aware of before we ever checked in but we werent warned. After trying to troubleshoot, we contacted reception via text and were told that the Inn could not provide us a working one to substitute for the broken one. It would have been nice to have been told when we checked in or they could have put a sign up. We couldnt get the minisplit to work the first night, it seemed to be programmed for air conditioning only. (No instructions and I do own 2 minisplits so i am not a novice.) Because there was no staff around to help in person, I just wore my coat and pants to bed to keep warm. The front door to the Inn was not locked so anyone could wander in off the street, which didn't particularly bother me but it might bother some people who would have preferred that there be card reader to keep the door locked when there was no front desk clerk watching the hallway where the rooms were. We didn't get a hard copy of receipt. I would stay here again just for the balcony and view. read more

Came here for a weekend getaway. I wasn't sure what to expect from the outside but was pleasantly surprised with this adorable, quaint little inn. Super cute reading nooks by the windows, fresh brewed coffee and breakfast in the morning, nice, comfortable rooms and spacious bathroom- wasn't expecting that. Comfy beds too. And Inferno pizza is a 3 min walk and the wood fired pizza is soooo good! Cute winery next door. Both with live music. Great location. Really enjoyed our stay here. read more

We love this place! We were here last week and it was a last-minute type of reservation as my husband and I decided to elope. The owners gave us a beautiful room with a comfy bed and an amazing view! They also went the extra mile of giving us a cake and mimosas. It was a relaxing night and we love the location as well. My husband and I just walked to Gruene River Grill for dinner and back without any problem! We had a wonderful breakfast and spent the day by the river. We will definitely book again! We stumbled upon this place when we left another bed and breakfast on Gruene with awful customer service and down right rude people. The second we walked in we were greeted kindly and we wanted to see the view before we committed. It was really awesome! We said sure, let's do it! They had floats we could buy for river as well. We stayed in the 3rd floor on the Fourth of July. You have likely never see anything like watching 10+ different fireworks shows going off for as far as the eye can see. This place as more than a view. It's spectacular! The river is deep and perfect off the property. You are able to float right in front. We will be back. Very impressed! read more

Complimentary breakfast, great staff, nice simple rooms, big baths, and a view of the Gruene River that is worth the price of the room and then some. My husband and I stayed here for an overnight getaway. We were greeted by a wonderful woman (the owner) who allowed us to check in a little early. Our room was clean with fresh linens. Our night was pleasant without any major issues. This is a very quiet, "mom and pop" style bed and breakfast that was perfect for us. We will definitely come again. read more

The location of the inn is great! Easy walk to everything, and had great views of the river. The gentleman that checked us in was very nice and helpful. The room was charming. This place was not up to the standards I expected. I had stayed at other places that were so much nicer. I took my 4 year old granddaughter to the Gruene River Inn, as we were staying at the Red Brick Inn down the street, to swim. I was told and directed by staff member where the stairs were to go to the swimming hole. Well, the stairs went about half way down and then you were on your own.....no steps, no railing, nothing except mud and weeds. We ventured a tad further to see that there wasn't really a swimming hole, it was the river with a rickety ladder to get into the river. This was definitely an afterthought, as there were no chairs, deck, just lots of mud and weeds! Disappointed, my granddaughter and I began climbing back up the hill. Well, since the stairs only went less than halfway down, we were in weeds and mud. I am not that young anymore....I fell in the mud and scraped my knee up pretty bad. My granddaughter started crying..she was scared, and I was too! By the time we got back up I went into the Inn, and the guy who said he owned the place just sat there. I was shaking I was so upset. The maid who had directed me to that awful stairway, came over and told me to calm down...my leg looked scraped, but she said, "it's not like your gushing blood". The man who said he was the owner never said, I'm sorry, maybe we should post a sign explaining the dangers of going down this very steep embankment. I asked the employee why she didn't say anything to me when she took me to the stairs going down, that the stairs ended less than half way down, or that their "swimming hole". Was probably not appropriate for a four year old!!!!! I mean really? I stormed out of there and returned to the Red Brick Inn. There was a man in the "lobby". I ask him if he was a manager, owner? He said HE WAS THE OWNER! I relayed the entire story to him. He said he would call down there. He sat in the rocking chair on the porch talking on his phone. NEVER ONCE DID HE SAY "Gee, I am sorry that happened". Customer service? NOT! The rooms need updated, terrible management, breakfast consisted of a foil wrapped breakfast burrito....EVERYDAY. WE WERE THERE 2 nights, no one came to empty trash, check if we needed more coffee...we did and never got any, freshen up your room. The bedspread was filthy, mattress terrible. ALL I CAN SAY IS NEVER AGAIN! 250.00 a night is not worth this place. The one star rating is ONLY because of location...that's it! Please management, you may want to attend customer service training to up your game....maybe like Chick-Filet Restaurants do. Wow, that would be epic to see you folks deliver great customer service!!! read more

Love this place! The rooms are very rustic and the beds very comfy. All rooms have balconies but the chairs need to be replaced. They weren't comfortable and were rusted. There's easy access to the River if you like tubing. The breakfast in the morning has something for everyone. Every room had a jacuzzi tub and that was great! The hotel staff was so nice and best of all, no kids! I'm not trying to offend anyone but a getaway without kids is what I was looking for. Definitely stay here if you're in the area. read more

My kids were kind enough to buy my wife and I a gift certificate for Christmas 2012. I set it aside, then realized around Halloween 2013 that this gift was set to expire soon - so called to reserve a room. As luck would have it, no rooms were available before January...but the site was kind enough to extend the expiration date of the gift until January 2014. I was made uncomfortable upon my arrival, however, when the lady at the front gave me a hard time about using an "expired" gift certificate. She wanted to know who I talked to that approved such a thing. I told her I didn't remember, and then she acted like she was doing me a huge favor and taking a big risk by letting me use this gift. The lobby area is very nice - and they had a couple of cakes available for guests that looked tasty. We took our luggage to the room, and I noticed that each step on the nice wood floor echoed down the hall and wondered if this would be a problem at night for the guests. I can say that I never noticed anybody walking down the hall (although I was at the end of the hall...maybe didn't have the opportunity). The room is appointed nice, with a small gas stove in the corner...sadly that stove is run by a ticking timer, which will annoy to no end when trying to go to sleep. The room is tiny - with a walkway around the queen bed and that's about it. The TV is an old, tube-style - no HD. C'mon guys - it's time to upgrade. There is a small balcony that provides an incredible view of the Guadalupe River. The view is stunning. The bed was old and creaky - I was awakened by every shift of my wife. We were on the bottom floor - our neighbors upstairs came in just after midnight, turned on music, and walked back and forth around the bed for over 2 hours. I was shocked, really - it was so incredibly loud - echo, echo, echo. Breakfast was simple - you can fry your own waffles, or enjoy pre-packaged cereal and pastries. For me, the annoyances were tough to overcome and the price did not justify the view - as nice as it was. read more

Staff was very nice and accommodating. Breakfast and coffee each morning was very nice. They had cakes and snacks out if you needed a late night snack. We had a large group so it was nice to gather in the "living room" to wait for everyone before we ventured out. Also at night we all gathered to visit. The outdoor balcony was very nice with a beautiful view of the river. The bed was creaky which was a little irritating at night, but it was a beautiful antique so understandable. I was really surprised to see the low Yelp rating on this B&B - I booked my reservation at the Gruene River Inn when I read all of the wonderful reviews on bedandbreakfast.com. I didn't see the Yelp reviews until we'd already arrived. I stayed there for a long weekend and had a lovely time. It's right on the river, the rooms are small but lovely. They offered us discounts and deals on river tubing. It's close enough to walk to the Gristmill, Gruene Hall and Gruene River Grill (along with other retailers and restaurants in Gruene), but not SO close that the music hall disturbed us. The rooms all have small balconies that overlook the river. The place is very quiet and peaceful and beautiful. Breakfast, as the other Yelper mentioned, was largely pre-packaged pastries, cereals and yogurt. But they also had DIY waffle iron, a variety of hot homemade breakfast burritos and fresh fruit that suited us just fine. And that huge jacuzzi bathtub was awesome! My only real complaint is that the bed was squeaky, which I would call just a minor inconvenience. Another Yelper mentioned the steep cost, but the price seems in line with the other B&Bs I researched online. Bottom line - Gruene River Inn is beautiful and peaceful and convenient and I would absolutely go back! read more

I really like this place. My husband and I have stayed here 3 times and have had a great experience each time. We always stay in the same room on the second floor and while the tv's are not as up to date as they could be, we tend to spend more time on the balcony enjoying the view or doing things outside of the room versus watching tv although the main room has nice tvs if I recall correctly. We made reservations for a baby moon a couple of years ago and ended up having our baby the same weekend and they were kind enough to keep our reservation open for a time when we could come back and had no problem when we were able to return. We love that you can walk down to the river and walk to Gruene. I love the bathroom of the room we stay in it has a huge tub and they have great breakfast tacos in the morning. We recommend Gruene River Inn when people ask about places to stay in Gruene. It is cozy but we kind of like that. The only inconvenience to me is the parking. It is sometimes hard to find a space if you come in later in the evening. Love it! read more
