I asked for a discount bc the paint work on this piece was sloppy. You could see the wood color under the newly painted piece in the drawer area, it was never taped off properly and it was just a bad paint job. That should have been my first clue to walk away. Vendor agreed to give me $25 off. I went ahead and bought the piece and Martin (part owner of rustic fox) helped load the piece into the bed of our truck. When they got it in the bed of the truck I noticed the wood was gouged. I noticed it and said, I'm going to repaint this so I'll just repair it with wood putty. Martin had hit this cabinet next to something that caused this to happen when he was bringing it back to load in our truck. We inspected the piece before we bought it and this was not there when viewing it on the floor. Now, I get it home and really start to look at it. This was not a gouge in the wood this was the paint peeling from the piece not being prepared properly. The wood is fine but the paint just peeled right off the piece. You can feel the old, varnished wood underneath. It's smooth like the day the piece was originally made. I called Rustic Fox and was told ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Beware what you buy here. This piece was never prepped and painted properly. Now I have to sand the piece down to the bare wood and prime and repaint. If this was prepped properly to begin with, I could do a light sand and prime and paint. My point here...Martin knew the piece was damaged when he loaded in our truck. He knew he did it. He could have allowed me to return it. The vendor lied and said how much prep work went into this piece. NOT TRUE, you can see it right on the actual piece, it was NOT PREPPED. I'll revise this post once I find out who the vendor is at Rustic Fox. BE CAREFUL when buying these painted pieces. BE CAREFUL all sales are final!!

There wasn't anything that called my name, though. They have a lot of herbs and whatnot, if you're looking for that sort of thing. I had stopped in because this is the type of shop that often has sterling silver and/or silver + gemstone jewelry and I can't help myself. But luckily for my wallet, they didn't really have much. Didn't receive any acknowledgment when I entered from the woman working at the store, so I didn't feel quite as bad as I sometimes do about leaving after a few minutes and not buying anything.

I'm glad that I did because this is a very nicely curated antique shop with a little vintage thrown in here and there for good measure. As far as pricing went I felt it was pretty reasonable for the most part. What really made the experience all the better though was the absolutely friendly shopkeeper who was working at the time. They were nice to everyone they interacted with and we had a nice conversation while I was perusing. I didn't leave with anything but I saw a couple of things I might come back for.

That's all you need to know. :)…read more It is here, that I found myself at a table with a group of people from Sweden, eating homemade baked goods and poking needles into brightly dyed wool. We made felted acorns with those needles and wool. An hour prior to my visit, I never imagined that I would be doing that, but there I was, enjoying the company, poking, and learning a Swedish word or two. So glad I had the fortune to end up here. After a couple weeks of living in our RV near Elgin, we 'moved' to a campsite in Big Rock, a mile or so from Esther's place. Big Rock isn't a big (or very exciting) town, so I did a quick online search to see what kind of shops were nearby and this place popped up. Interested in doing a little bit of exploring, I stopped by here expecting to just look at yarn for five minutes. But no, I had a light lunch with a group of people visiting from Sweden, played with needles, and learned so much about the story behind Esther's Place. Well, that's a much better adventure anyway, right? In the two weeks that I stayed at the campsite nearby, I dropped by Esther's several times for whimsical inspiration, drooling over wool, conversation, and a quick afternoon of needle felting with some good friends. Not only can you swing by the charming house (there is a knitted monkey hanging out in a tree!) to sign up for a myriad of classes or farm tours, but you can purchase felting materials & wool, handmade treasures like little felted animals and knitted scarves, handmade soaps/lotions, and have a chance to pick up some farm fresh fruits and veggies in the warmer months. Stay for awhile and you might just be treated to a hospitable plate of pie or a glass of water as you sit and chat with the family. Natasha, the sweet woman behind Esther's place, is so warm & friendly, bubbling with enthusiasm for fiber arts and the community. I am amazed at how she made her dream a reality and has created this fantastic haven for people to come together and create delightful things. Her family also helps with the business (and the farm); it's nice to see a thriving family business in this sweet little town. Definitely visit Esther's Place if you have a spare afternoon and a desire to learn something new!

My Biggest problem with this place is the prices, you can easily find comparable product online (ebay) for a much lower cost. Example: Cassette tapes are priced at $4.99 most places ask $0.50 to $1.00 due to this they sit on their inventory. On the plus side they do barter pretty well when you bring something into trade for in store credit. I once traded a 3 set of Katina swords for Game boy Advance SP for my daughter so you have to take the good with the bad.
